Columbia/Boone County voters head to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots in November's general election. No-excuse absentee voting in Boone County has been heavy. More than 19,000 voters had already cast ballots as of Friday morning, according to Boone County clerk Brianna Lennon. We're waiting for updated numbers from Friday and Saturday. 939 the Eagle's Mike Murphy, who publishes Comobuz.com, joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle's "CEO Roundtable" program. Most of the interview involved the local elections. Mr. Murphy expects results early on Tuesday evening from Boone County clerk Lennon. He notes Boone County currently has 13 elected offices countywide, and that all of them are held by Democrats. Mr. Parry and Mr. Murphy discussed the recent endorsement from the Columbia Board of Realtors for Boone County Northern District Commissioner Janet Thompson, a Democrat, and Boone County Southern District southern district commissioner candidate Sam Turner, a Republican. They also discussed in-detail the money and endorsements in the high-profile race to replace retiring Judge Kevin Crane in Boone and Callaway counties. Democrat Stephanie Morrell, an associate circuit judge, faces GOP nominee Jesus Osete, a former Missouri deputy attorney general. Mr. Parry and Mr. Murphy also discussed the five Missouri House seats in Boone County, noting that State Reps. David Tyson Smith and Kathy Steinhoff (D-Columbia) are unopposed on Tuesday. State Rep. Cheri Toalson Reisch (R-Hallsville) is term-limited in Jefferson City, and Democrat Dave Raithel and Republican John Martin hope to replace her. Mr. Murphy predicts Martin will win the race, and also predicts that State Rep. Adrian Plank (D-Columbia) will win re-election over GOP challenger John Potter. They also discussed the House race to replace State Rep. Doug Mann (D-Columbia), who is not seeking re-election. Democratic nominee Gregg Bush, a registered nurse, faces Republican John Lane. Mr. Bush, who narrowly lost a race for Columbia's fifth ward council seat in 2023, has said that he would not vote for Mizzou funding unless the University agreed to bargaining terms with a local labor union. Mr. Murphy didn't mince words on-air when describing Mr. Bush, calling him a "nut job" who "knows nothing about anything." Mr. Parry and Mr. Murphy also discussed Columbia businessman Wayne Sells' latest lawsuit against Columbia Public Schools (CPS), and they also discussed Columbia's mayoral race and spring municipal elections:

About the show During the first half of the program, veterinarian Dr. Marty Goldstein discussed holistic approaches to pet health and well-being and his journey into veterinary medicine. Goldstein revealed he followed his older brother into veterinary school because of his lifelong love for animals. After graduating from Cornell in 1973, he noticed a significant increase in the incidence of cancer among dogs. Cancer was predominantly seen in older dogs, with a reported rate of one in ten, Goldstein explained. Recent studies, such as those cited in his book "Spirit of Animal Healing," show a dramatic rise to one in every 1.61 dogs, he added. This alarming trend prompted him to dedicate his career to understanding and combating this rise in cancer. Goldstein emphasized the unique bond between humans and their pets, describing them as sources of unconditional love free from the complexities of human relationships. He illustrated this by comparing how pets react to being locked in a closet versus how humans would react. He pointed to the profound impact of pets on their owners, noting that many celebrities have had to halt work due to their pets' illnesses. According to Goldstein, his mission has been to reverse the trend of terminal illnesses in pets through holistic and integrative veterinary practices, seeking to address both the physical and energetic health of animals. His books, including "Nature of Animal Healing," document numerous cases where non-responsive animals have recovered, which supports his belief in the importance of energy medicine alongside traditional veterinary care. Goldstein reported on the shift towards biologically appropriate diets for pets and highlighted the benefits of freeze-dried food. This method preserves nutrition and is convenient for nationwide distribution, he noted. His freeze-dried pet food has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many reporting quick health improvements in pets. Goldstein advocated for a balanced approach to pet health which combines conventional and holistic methods to enhance lifespan and quality of life. He also provided his insights on how pets and their owners can share similar health issues due to energetic exchanges and emphasized prevention and integrative care for the overall well-being of pets. ------------------------------------------ In the third hour, Coast listener John Potter talked about navigating life's challenges after losing his eyesight, which began after he experienced severe stress and depression following the failure of his business in 2018. During this period, he did not seek any medical or psychological help. According to Potter, this neglect led to elevated blood pressure, which eventually caused his optic nerves to clamp and led to the loss of vision in both eyes by August 2019. Potter revealed how he adapted to life without vision. He uses a cane for mobility, and while he cannot see images or details, he can perceive light flickers and motion close to his eyes. He emphasized the importance of seeking help for mental health issues to prevent severe physical consequences like his own. Despite his blindness, Potter said he maintains a positive outlook, shares his experience to help others, and continues to find joy in life through activities like listening to music and participating in community events. The last hour of the program featured Open Lines. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/georgenoory/message

Resilience through unexpected career shifts is often something you realize in retrospect. It's natural to feel stress in times of change, especially during unexpected transitions that impact your financial security. It can feel overwhelming when you're walking through them. Once you know that you successfully regained a certain equilibrium in your life you can look back with greater perspective. It's rare these days to have a job that lasts a life time or even to have a linear career journey. We're in a time of transition societally and many people are experiencing that in a very personal way, particularly in their career. One way to gain perspective in the moment is to recall times where you have successfully navigated unexpected shifts in the past. Another way to gain perspective is to tap into other people's experience. In this episode of Unlimited, I invited F. John Potter (aka my dad) to join me in a conversation about what resilience looks like through unexpected career shifts. Some of what we talk about in this episode includes: Being open to the unexpectedDecision-making with the support of friendsCourage and defining enoughNavigating unemploymentThe accumulation of skillsThank you for listening! If you enjoyed this episode, please share it! They are, in ballot order, Paul Harper, John Potter, incumbent Christopher Horn, James Edward Gordon, John Lyman, April Ferrao and former State Representative Chuck Basye (R-Rocheport). During Saturday's interview, host Fred Parry and Murphy criticized the questions being asked at other forums, saying nothing is being asked about CPS academic performance. Mr. Parry and Mr. Murphy also discussed CPS superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood, the Wayne Sells CPS case, Columbia's trash issue and Columbia city council races:
