Juiceboxxx is no more. Enter Rustbelt. John Chiaverina has moved on from his well-known stage name and is now focused on Rustbelt. Today's Snack is the title track of his forthcoming 4-song EP (out 1/19/24), “You Got Nowhere to Go But You're Going There Tonight.” The lyrics address “the absurdity of aiming for greatness as well as the beauty of trying anyway.” I feel like we can all relate in some way.
a good one to listen to if ya like mariah carey songs as much as josh does... oh yeah one more thing, josh is down with the goths.

Fat Tony's debut album RABDARGAB was released October 19, 2010 and featured production entirely from Tom Cruz formerly of Atlanta-based rap group Supreeme.[8] The album features appearances by Murs, Negashi Armada aka Blunt Fang from Supreeme, Charly East, Bo. P, Kam Franklin, and Tom Cruz.[citation needed] “RABDARGAB” is a reference to a late 1990s Houston Independent School District campaign aimed at elementary school students to promote literacy by offering $1 to students in exchange for book reports. The acronym stands for “Read a Book – Do A Report – Get a Buck.”[9] With the release of this album, Fat Tony ran a promotion entitled LISDARGAB (Listen, Do a Review, Get a Buck) where Fat Tony undertook to send anyone who emailed him a review for RABDARGAB a dollar bill in the mail.[10] The album was preceded by a mixtape release entitled RABDARGAB: The EPreview mixed by Fat Tony's DJ iPod Ammo. The mixtape featured collaborations with Das Racist, Juiceboxxx, HOSPITAL, Jade
“It’s no easy task for an artist to sum up who they are in one album, much less in one song. And yet, here, at the start of the first verse of the first song of his newest album, Juiceboxxx lays it all out for you: Out of my mind but I’m a hell of a guy, I got the PMA, that’s just an FYI / I got a J-O-B and that’s to stay alive, 24/7 not 9 to 5… “So begins “Freaking Out” on Freaked Out American Loser, the latest album from Juiceboxxx, the Milwaukee-bred punk rap artist who is quite simply the first and last of his kind all at once… “Juiceboxxx grew up in the ‘2000s within the noise, punk rock, and underground rap communities of Wisconsin, and while those banners still fly high independently today, there are very few other artists who not only understand that venn diagram but who are also actively attempting to merge those sounds cohesively. There is something singular about a Juiceboxxx show, wherein he might run through some songs that remind you of Public Enemy—whom Juiceboxxx went on tour with, in Canada—or Beastie Boys. There will be some fast punk songs, and the whole thing might end on an anthemic track like “Never Surrender Forever” that has a Springsteen or Jonathan Richman influence. Yes, there are guitars, but he raps, too; Juice came out of those noise-damaged scenes, and everything he does is coated in a level of intensity. He sticks to his guns. He sleeps with his tension. ““There’s something weirdly eccentric about what I do that puts it to the left of culture,” he says. “I’m trying to do something eclectic but rooted in parameters I set for myself. Almost like when you watch a Beck show from the ’90s… There’s not that many people connecting the dots between rap music and raw rock-and-roll, attempting to use guitars in a different way. I’m not saying I’m the only one, but there’s not many taking classic rap influences and pushing it to more of a damaged-yet-anthemic punk zone.” “Freaked Out American Loser is a punk rap blast that captures the anarchic, aggressive spirit of Juiceboxxx’s live show while also adding a new level of polish, focus, and dare we say, professionalism. “I’m looking at Beastie Boys as the Ramones or something, and trying to build on that language; looking at Public Enemy within the lens of punk rock,” Juiceboxxx says.” ~Dangerbird Records

My guest this week is Schwarz. Schwarz is a producer and DJ from St. Louis, now residing in Baltimore. Schwarz has worked with La Chat, DDM, Abdu Ali, Juiceboxxx, TT The Artist, Kyle Mabson and many more. For many years, he helped run the Deep In The Game night at Baltimore’s Hippodrome, with Cex and Mark Brown. He’s recently released three solo singles, and is currently gearing up to release his debut full length. We talk about growing up in St. Louis and his start in a rap group called AOSTL. He breaks down his move to Baltimore and his entry into Baltimore’s noise and dance music scenes. We discuss his recent releases, and the music he has on the horizon. He also schools me on the difference between Baltimore, Jersey and Philly club music. This week, Mike Riley hooked us up with an homage to Audio Two’s What More Can I Say. It all went down at The Lineup Room.

While many feel comfortable using canned or frozen Electro as their soup base, Destroyed For Comfort prefers to whip up their Electro from scratch, using fresh ingredients. We go heavy on the samples and are not afraid to spice things up in an unconventional way effects-wise, while mixing in traditionally enjoyed flavors like analog synth and 8-bit sounds. Fronted and founded by art-school dropout r*23 (Rani Bakr), DESTROYED FOR COMFORT utilizes both found sound and real-time synthesis to create stompy, noisy, sample-heavy 8-bit hacker-punk that never sounds quite the same way twice, or ever. Disorienting sonic textures and mangled vocals set the tone, complementing surprisingly danceable beats. Performances frequently include backup dancers and projected animation. Interested in meta-meme reprogramming and cheap beer. We'll play in your backyard if you ask us nicely enough. DESTROYED FOR COMFORT has been honored to share the stage with a veritable who's who of independent and experimental electronic music over the past decade, including (but not limited to) acts like Author And Punisher, Bozo Porno Circus, CeVin Key, Cry Blood Apache, The Emotron, Eric Archer, Femme Fatality, I Cactus, Juiceboxxx, Krista Muir, Ludivico Technique, Malekko, Martin Rev, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Otto Von Schirach, Peelander Z, Realicide, The Subliminator, Talmadge D'Amour, and Yip Yip. DESTROYED FOR COMFORT has also performed remix work for Houston Bernard, Suicide God Pill, and Christopher Anton, with more to come soon. DESTROYED FOR COMFORT has devoted several of their performances to benefits for non-profit, activist, and relief services such as the SIMS Foundation, Locks Of Love, The Livestrong Foundation, the Green Party, Anti-Racist Action, and the ACLU, as well as relief efforts for Katrina victims and the citizens of Darfur. We've also performed at benefits for independent music venues and the Texas Rollerderby jeerleader team Bomb Squad. The movement, the progression of thought. An unlimited outlook on the possibility of becoming whole. We communicate the view of the world as it is, what it has been, and what it could be with a true understanding of what it is to be free. Not an illusion of freedom. We are not free, we are all oppressed, oppressed by the history of humanity. Emily's Gone Mad has over time progressed changed and re invented themselves time and time again. We epitomize the idea of forward motion. We are not boasting to be arrogant we merely say this to inspire to an uncompromising principle to evolve to a perfectly chaotic conclusion. Emily's Gone Mad a band with an idea. Change our world express an idea of forward motion. This is who we are. NO genre. NO clique. Just music. A free expression of our hearts our minds, and our views of the world we live in. Nothing in art, music, literature, or life is unique. It is the idea behind the art that is the only thing unique. All chords have been played all things have been painted, everything has been written, we are all repeating what we know. The only way true uniqueness can be found is through exploring all avenues. That's what Emily's Gone MAd does. "We hold to nothing, but our will to explore. We mean what we write we live the life we have been given." Emilys Gone Mads Music is a solid expression of this mentality Emilys Gone Mad wraps their social views into an electric synth rock that has become EGM's signature sound. With over four albums written and two released their sound has evolved into a sound that is unique and distinct. Featuring the succulently seductive Emmy “Ferocious E” Robbin (Machete Kills, Sin City 2) on vocals, the shredding guitar of Kriss St. Kriss and hot new drummer Rona Rougeheart (Gretsch Drums Artist)…DEAD LOVE CLUB is simply “the” shit.
