Richard Carrier's book Mussolini's Army Against Greece: October 1940-April 1941 (Routledge, 2021) analyses why the Italian army failed to defeat its Greek opponent between October 1940 and April 1941. It thoroughly examines the multiple forms of ineffectiveness that plagued the political leadership as well as the military organisation. Mussolini's aggression of Greece ranks among the most neglected campaigns of the Second World War. Initiated on 28 October 1940, the offensive came to a halt less than ten days later; by mid-November, the Greek counter-offensive put the Italian armies on the defensive, and back in Albania. From then on, the fatal interaction between failing command structures, inadequate weapons and equipment, unprepared and unmotivated combatants, and terrible logistics lowered to a dangerous level the fighting power of Italian combatants. This essay proposes that compared to the North African and Russian campaigns where the Regio Esercito achieved a decent level of military effectiveness, the operation against Greece was a military fiasco. Only the courage of its soldiers and the German intervention saved the dictator's army from complete disaster. This book would appeal to anyone interested in the history of the world war, and to those involved in the study of military effectiveness and intrigued by why armies fail. The season finale for 2022! We wrap up the year with Christian Apologetics making the claim that in Paul's 7 authentic letters he refers to a historical Jesus, having a mother and a father, a brother named James, was killed by the Jews and that there were 500 eye witnesses to his resurrection. Based on the book by Richard Carrier, "On the Historicity of Jesus"
In this episode we continue to examine the arguments that Paul speaks of a historical Jesus in his letters. But when closely examined, it appears that he does not. In Part 1 (Was Paul's Jesus a Space Alien) we discussed his silence about anything earthbound about Jesus and countered to Apologetic excuse that he only dealt with church issues and doctrine. In this episode, we tackle the argument about Jesus was born in the flesh by the seed or sperm of King David. The source for this episode is from Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus" and more!
I will have the distinct pleasure to have a discussion with two great people, World famous podcaster Derek Lambert, and world renowned atheist Dr. Richard Carrier. We shall talk about their exciting new project, and ask some questions.
In this episode I attempt to tackle the arguments for a historical Jesus in the Pauline letters. As it stands, Paul's 7 authentic letters are completely devoid of any mentioning of an earthbound Jesus whatsoever. However, there are a few Christian arguments that make the claim that Paul never mentions Jesus's life is because it was already common knowledge and that there was no need to tell his congregations anything about him. But to me, this seems odd and out of place. We will also determine if Paul wrote prior the the gosples which puts the order of the New Testament books in conflict. The sourse material for this episode is provided by Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus".
From Dec 2012. Richard Carrier is the world's foremost proponent of the "mythicist" view of Jesus - that he never actually existed as a historical person. He explained his theory that St. Paul only ever spoke of Jesus in the spiritual realm and that the Gospels are "extended parables". Mark Goodacre is NT professor at Duke University. He contended that Carrier's mythicist view is extrememly far fetched and the evidence for the historical Jesus is beyond reasonable doubt. • Subscribe to the Unbelievable? podcast: https://pod.link/267142101 • More shows, free eBook & newsletter: https://premierunbelievable.com • For live events: http://www.unbelievable.live • For online learning: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/training-and-events • Support us in the USA: http://www.premierinsight.org/unbelievableshow • Support us in the rest of the world: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/donate
In this episode we will review the epistle of Hebrews that appears to be written as late a 68 during the Jewish-Roman War. How did these early Chrostians understand Jesus and in what capacity? Was he a divine human killed by the Romans at the fault of the Jewish elite or was he thought of as a celestial being who has no beginning and has no end that must die and rise in heaven in order to defeat Satan? (Credit given to Richard Carrier and his book, On the Historicity of Jesus - for further reading)
In this one-on-one edition of the show, Justin Brierley spoke to New Testament Historian Bart Ehrman about his recent book "Did Jesus Exist?" which argues for the historical fact of Jesus of Nazareth. Ehrman, whose books are more usually at odds with evangelicals, was this time attacked by atheist proponents of "mythicism" - the view that Jesus never existed. He responded to the criticisms, including mythicists Bob Price and Richard Carrier and answered questions sent in by Unbelievable? listeners. • More shows, free eBook & newsletter: https://premierunbelievable.com • For live events: http://www.unbelievable.live • For online learning: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/training-and-events • Support us in the USA: http://www.premierinsight.org/unbelievableshow • Support us in the rest of the world: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/donate

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/01/22), Hank discusses a book titled The Miracle Myth: Why Belief in the Resurrection and the Supernatural Is Unjustified by Larry Shapiro. In the book, Shapiro paints a portrait of Christ that rules out the supernatural. His pseudo-historical information is garnered from Bart Ehrman and Richard Carrier, a fringe scholar who believes the historical Christ never existed. Shapiro ignores the apostle Paul and the creed found in 1 Corinthians chapter 15, which is early and free from legendary contamination. Here we have a man who wins the “Jesus Game,” but loses the week that changed the world.Hank also answers the following questions:What are your thoughts on Rahab's lie? The narrative seems to indicate that she wins favor with the Lord. When people die, are they really in the presence of the Lord? What happened to Lazarus? What are your thoughts on Sozo prayer ministry? Can you clarify the issue of lying? Was Jacob right to deceive Isaac into giving him the birthright? Will there be time in eternity, or will we always be in the present?

Episode 44– Show Notes We discuss the Old Testament Book of Daniel using Andrew's research and knowledge. The main controversy surrounds whether it is written by Daniel himself as it purports to be (6thC BC) or someone claiming to be Daniel in the 2ndC BC. As it turns out this is only a controversy when conservative scholars are around. We discuss the reasons why the mainstream date Daniel at the juncture when the ‘prophecies' suddenly turn from accurate to hopeless. The significance of this of course impacts on the use of Daniel by apologists, but the significance extends too to the use of it in the New Testament. The Atheist & Christian Book Club is an outreach of Watchman Fellowship, the parent ministry of Apologetics Profile. It is a monthly gathering of believers and skeptics respectfully discussing important books from both perspectives. In this special edition of Apologetics Profile, Kirby Anderson of Probe ministries interviews Christian apologist James Walker and atheist apologist Bill Kluck about this unique book club they founded in 2017. The interview originally aired on Point of View, an international syndicated radio program carried on 265 stations with an audience of about 1 million. Watchman staff apologist, Daniel Ray who helps facilitate the book club, was also interviewed. What Happens at the Club? Each month between 25 to 60 athesits and Christians share a meal together and then discuss important books alternating each month between an athiest book and a Christian book. Usually the author of the book is present to discuss the book or is avaialble by video conferencing to provide additional insight and take questions from the club. Since the pandemic, the club has been moved online to Zoom where the membership has grown to include particiapants as far away as India and Africa. Atheist and agnostic authors who have joined the club to discuss their books include: Michael Ruse, Graham Oppy, Richard Carrier, Robert Price, Aron Ra, David Fitzgerald, John Loftus, Seth Andrews, Steve McRae, Sasha Sagan (daughter of the late Carl Sagan), Jim Hall, Ken Daniels, and David Madison. When discussing the historical reliability of the Bible, a common complaint that comes up on the internet is the idea that Jesus might not even be a historical figure. In this series of the podcast, we've been looking at challenge against the New Testament, and the idea of the Jesus Myth fits nicely into that category. Joining me again is Wes Huff. We take a look at a couple of the most popular Jesus Mythicists; Richard Carrier, and Robert Price. Greetings Heathens! What an interesting and stressful week it’s been, thankfully it’s time for some heathens who talk. In today’s episode of Talk Heathen, Eric Murphy is joined by Vi La Bianca. #LaMurphFirst, a message from Richard Carrier in response to a previous caller on a recent episode and how there is still work to be done in the atheist community.Let’s get to calls! Jim in Canada would like to talk about how atheists can actually know that God is not actively deceiving us into nonbelief. How do we really and truly KNOW? (this guy sounds VERY familiar…)Jamie in Wisconsin is up next, would like to talk about the justification for abortion and whether tax is theft. But where does this intersect with atheism though? Hmmm… he seems to be a walking contradiction about some of this stuff. John in Connecticut, is wondering about dualism, if souls exist, and materialism. Is consciousness supernatural under the dualism and supernatural definitions? Fallacies and poor arguments abound with this call. Weeee!Elli in Germany is asking about family reactions to her personal journey to atheism. She is still struggling with how to fully understand this and how to justify her nonbelief to her family. David in Mexico is curious about how to best fulfill a family member’s last wishes if they are atheist and their family is theist. He is also dealing with the religiosity of funerals in general. It is definitely a worthy topic of conversation and you have the right to completely lay out these last wishes that you would like to be respected.Edgar in California would like to talk about Hitchen’s Razor and how we should approach others in conversation about religion and atheism, especially while being Hispanic. ¡Buena Suerte Edgar!Up next, Larry in Texas is struggling with the concept (or word) atheist due to it’s somewhat negative connotation or perception. Yeah, we are actively working on this, positive atheism for the win! That’s our show for this week. Also, WINTER IS COMING and the pandemic is still ongoing! Please continue to be safe in your area, wear your mask, continue to be socially distanced, and wash your hands! The world is better with you in it. See you next week!
On this episode, Ian and Ty welcome author and theologist Richard Carrier to discuss what's going on in the world and touch on religion.
I interview Dr. Richard Carrier about his latest book, Jesus from Outer Space: What the Earliest Christians Really Believed about Christ, which asserts that the teachings of Jesus Christ began as cosmic revelations to a chosen few, and only later did Christian writers create a terrestrial biography for Jesus that borrowed heavily from similar death-and-resurrection mythologies of the ancient world. Episode 13 of our book read/podcast covering every chapter in an open source textbook to act as a free supplement to social psychology topics and concepts. In this episode we are jumping to chapter 10 to discuss GROUP PROCESSES and identity in cults with special guest Jordan Jones. We posit questions such as what is a cult? What are the characteristics of a cult? Are you in a cult? Is the university alumni association a cult? Ok, we can probably say that the last question is a No, but how can you tell? In the end we discuss the BITE model and end up asking the question “Were our former retail jobs cults?” Resources: https://culteducation.com/directory-of-cult-recovery-resources.html https://www.jimmoyers.com/spirituality/resources.html https://freedomofmind.com/bite-model/ Textbook: https://opentextbc.ca/socialpsychology/ Thomas' Webpage: https://sexography.org/ Thomas' Twitter: https://twitter.com/TBrooks_SexPsy Daniel's Twitter: https://twitter.com/ScienceInChaos Video(s) of the Podcast: Steven Hassan: BITE Model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Pvpd6wCeM4 How to Start a Cult: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBK5aKOr2Fw Dr. Richard Carrier and Mystery Cults: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6Psu5X2X1w&t=3s Biases of the Week: Third Person Effect + Subjective Validation https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h3r_CNg_MuRKbi_oJYVRth7dAMW2nNiS/view?usp=sharing

Greetings Heathens! Hope you are still being safe during the ongoing pandemic (still, sigh.) We hope to be a sanctuary for you in this chaotic world. In today’s episode of Talk Heathen, Eric Murphy is joined by Vi La Bianca. #LaMurphLet’s get to calls! Theo from the Czech Republic would like to talk about if we have hopes for the future of mankind. Interesting question, but is it relevant to atheism? What does a God add to this question? It feels good to be kind to others there doesn’t need to be a God involved.Simon in England is up next, he asks if you can still be an atheist if you believe in ghosts. Actually yes, you can still be an atheist and believe you’ve experienced ghosts or spirits. Though as a skeptic, there is likely an explanation for the experience (such as sleep paralysis, hallucinations, embellished thoughts, shared experiences, cultural priming … etc.)Returning caller Mark in Washington DC, is wondering about having different theories of knowledge, what do we subscribe to, and are these justifiable true beliefs. He brings up a couple premises and continues the discussion about the Kalam Cosmological argument. Penelope in Oklahoma is asking in what way does usefulness (example: using chakras) outweigh truthfulness. What a great question, and Vi breaks it down for her. Kevin in New York is calling back, this time wanting to talk about math. But math is descriptive like a language and doesn’t necessarily prove a God exists… and he dropped. Guess he realized why he doesn’t call in anymore. NEXT!Chris in Canada is wondering what is next for the atheist movement because Richard Carrier said the work is done. But the work is not done yet. This guy sounds familiar and his line of questions are really suspect... You be the judge, does he sound familiar to you?Up next, Becky in Florida is struggling with wanting the easy answer for illness and explaining death to her child. Unfortunately, easy answers are comforting and we want it because it’s easy. Parenting beyond belief may be helpful in getting through this. Love to you Becky!Manik in Bangladesh would like to talk about how the arguments, empirical knowledge, and scientific explanations from the Quran are true. Goes on to say that we must take it on faith and that some things in the book are true and some are metaphorical. But we should believe… Yeah, no.That’s our show for this week, please continue to be safe in your area, wear your mask. The world is better with you in it. See you next week!

The Mind Renewed : Thinking Christianly in a New World Order
To begin the summer season of programmes here at TMR, we welcome back Nick Peters of Deeper Waters Christian Ministries, who joins for an in-depth discussion on the subject of Mythicism, of Christ Myth Theory. Was Jesus of Nazareth a real person of history? Or was he, perhaps, originally a mythical character, whose story gradually came to be understood as historical through processes of allegorisation and misunderstanding? Alternatively, was he a Roman invention? With reference to some of the ideas of writers such as Earl Doherty, Richard Carrier, Robert M. Price and Joseph Atwill, we discuss the plausibility of mythicists' attempts to revise the history of Christian origins, and conclude that the hypothesis of Jesus' existence best fits the evidence.
