Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:00 We will have an episode out next week and will be off on February 11. I've been watching The Last of Us. Chandra is watching the Australian Open. Royals: Minutes 5:00 to 19:30 Reactions to Spare are focused on Meghan and wondering where she is instead of addressing Harry's explosive claims, particularly about the press. We would love to read Meghan's memoir and hear her take on some of these stories. The royals are sending other people to do their dirty work. A woman named Marjorie Wallace, who founded a mental health charity and worked as an investigative journalist, claimed Meghan is “playing the victim card” by discussing her suicide ideation on the Harry and Meghan docuseries. Wallace is friends with Charles and Camilla. A mixed race Opera singer named Danielle de Niese claimed Meghan was calling the entire country of Britain racist, which de Niese said “hasn't been my experience.” Danielle de Niese is married to a white aristocrat and they live on a huge estate that's been in his family for generations. That column was by Richard Eden and Chandra wonders if he was putting words in de Neise's mouth. The Guardian sent a journalist to Montecito, where it sounded like Harry and Meghan have a quiet life of doing normal things like shopping and going to shows. A local bookstore had sold 30 copies of Spare, and this was somehow news despite the evacuation in Montecito. It was hard for me to listen to Harry talk about how much he drank and did drugs. The media keeps asking where Meghan is but they berated her and nitpicked everything she said when Archetypes was airing. Princess Kate has assembled a team of advisors to her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. She's going to meet with them a whole two times a year. They released a one and a half minute video from that and I could barely hear what she was saying. Chandra thinks she has improved since the time she introduced Jill Biden. Kate and William also graced a Windsor food bank with their presence since they couldn't be bothered to announce a donation or bring anything with them. William brought the Earthshot finalists to Windsor after failing to invite them to the awards ceremony in Boston. Virginia Giuffre's one year gag order in her settlement from Prince Andrew is about to run out. She's the woman raped by Andrew when she was trafficked to him at 17 by Jeffrey Epstein. She has reportedly signed a memoir deal worth millions. There are stories that Andrew inherited millions from his mother's estate and has a “war chest” he's going to use to fight Giuffre in court. Andrew reportedly wants to use his HRH title privately in business dealings. Oscar nominations: Minutes 19:30 to 24:00 We got the Oscar nominations and there are some surprises. Both Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler got snubbed in the Best Actress category while Ana de Armas got nominated for Blonde and Andrea Riseborough got a nomination for To Leslie. It's another case of Oscars so white. There are also no women nominated in the Best Director category. We hope Brendan Fraser wins Best Actor over Austin Butler. Chandra loves Tar but I don't have a movie I want to win Best Picture yet. Comments of the Week: Minutes 24:00 to end My comments of the week are the responses to Lolo86lf on the post about Sean Penn and Robin Wright reuniting. Chandra's comment of the week is from Nixie on the post about Gerard Pique going Instagram official with his new piece. Thanks for listening bitches!

The story is that of June and Jennifer Gibbons who grew up in Wales in the 1970s. For years, the two would only speak to each other earning them the name ‘the silent twins'. At 19, they were institutionalised at Broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital indefinitely. They remained there for 11 years. In 1993, they were moved to a less restrictive clinic in Wales. However Jennifer died during transit. The cause of her death has never been fully determined but has been suggested it was part of their pact as twins. Their story has been largely forgotten or left to folklore. It is now being brought to light in a new biographical film that comes out this Friday, called The Silent Twins. We speak to the award-winning actors, Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrance, who star as the silent twins. We also hear from Marjorie Wallace, former investigative journalist and founder of mental health charity, SANE, whose book inspired the film. ‘Mummy Brain' is the term given to feelings of brain fog or memory loss that women experience during and post pregnancy. Despite the fact that 80% of pregnant women will experience this, very little is known about the specific causes. What we do know is that women's brains change more during pregnancy than at any other time during adulthood. Dr Jodi Pawluski has been researching the topic for over 20 years and has personally experienced ‘mummy brain' herself. She tells Emma what we currently know about the impact pregnancy and parenthood has on women's brains - and what more we still are yet to find out. How much should you tell your children about your past? In the new film ‘Everything I Ever Wanted to Tell My Daughter About Men', a woman details every relationship she has been in, in the hope that her daughter won't make the same mistakes. The film is backed by Refuge - the charity supporting survivors of domestic violence. It's made by 21 female directors across 23 short films. Then Lorien Haynes, who wrote the script and acted in the films, made one full length movie feature from the short films. All proceeds from the movie will go to Refuge. Emma speaks to Lorien about why she wanted to do this project. In one of his first big tests as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has had to water down housing targets for local councils - faced by a rebellion from his own backbenchers. The former Northern Ireland and DEFRA minister Theresa Villers led the charge alongside fellow Conservative MP Bob Seeley. Housing Secretary Michael Gove has now offered councils more flexibility over meeting the government-set targets. The 60 rebels had argued they are excessive and undermine local councils. Emma talks to Kitty Donaldson, UK Political Editor at Bloomberg News and to Rosie Pearson, who has been branded by some as the 'Queen of NIMBYs', due to her campaigning on this issue.

Do jakiego tragicznego końca doprowadziła ta jedyna w swoim rodzaju więź? Reportaż Marjorie Wallace to znacznie więcej niż dokumentacja - to akt dążenia do prawdy, konsekwentnie prowadzone śledztwo, które dało odpowiedzi trafniejsze i pełniejsze, jakich nie zdołali ustalić lekarze psychiatrzy ani terapeuci. To wreszcie znakomita literatura, ukazująca głęboką humanistyczną prawdę o piekle zniewolenia i przemocy, jakie można zgotować najbliższej osobie. Zapraszamy do słuchania! "The Silent Twins” follows the harrowing true story of identical twin sisters Jennifer of June Gibbons. The daughters of immigrants who moved to the United Kingdom from Barbados, with their parents, in the early 1960s. After a series of moves related to their father's work, the family settled in Haverfordwest, Wales in 1974. Labeled the Silent Twins for their repeated refusal to speak or read at school or socially engage with anyone but each other, Jennifer and June fell prey to machinations of a system with little room for the idiosyncratic, especially the foreign born. And after repeated trauma-inducing attempts to force them to speak and conform, by psychologists attached to the school administration, both girls were labeled mentally disturbed. In their late teens, a petty crime spree lands the girls in police custody. In lieu of being sentenced like ordinary mischievous kids, a judge confines the Gibbons girls to Broadmoor Hospital, a high security psychiatric facility indefinitely. “The Silent Twins” attempts to pull the reader into the world of the Gibbons sisters and bring their intensely creative drive into sharper focus and convey their actions as those of misunderstood eccentrics.  “If you were telling your story, through me, how would you want it to begin?...” Telling someone else's story is tricky; especially if the world's already decided what's important to know about that person. So deciding to shun the standard method, a biopic, and go the route of an outsider art film inspired by their life-altering experiences, is a bold move. One that for director Agnieszka Smoczynska's first English language feature film, is wildly successful emotionally and visually but woefully hampered by its script limitations.  Smoczynska's film begins with the elementary age sisters' voices reading the opening credits as though they're radio disc jockeys. It's a bright, fanciful introduction awash with color and the girls' infectious laughter. Only for a knock at the door to abruptly shift everything to a shot of the twins (played with remarkable facility of emotion by Leah Mondesir-Simmonds and Eva-Arianna Baxter) sitting at a bench, facing a wall, with their heads bowed. A side view reveals the duo clenching their hands and one sister shooting a look at the other as though commanding her to remain quiet until their mother leaves the doorway. What follows is a quietly disturbing portrayal of these young girls being ostracized on top of being bullied just for being the only Black children in the community. Mondesir-Simmonds and Eva-Arianna Baxter have an increasingly heartbreaking symmetry that conveys more than any amount of dialogue could ever pull off. The duo imbue their performances with a hefty emotion and disturbing edge that's riveting to witness.  Unfortunately, “The Silent Twins” has a serious order of operations problem. Just as you're fully invested in experiencing all this upheaval and increasingly cruel attempts to force the girls out of their shell, the story shifts to Jennifer and June in their late teens. And this here's when it becomes painfully apparent Screenwriter Andrea Siegel's script is inadequate, glaringly so. Because this is less a biopic and more a biographical art film based on Marjorie Wallace's novel by the same name and the diaries and other writings of the twins themselves, the onus is on Seigel to ground every flight of fancy and internal exploration with its external counterpart. We follow the teens journey into creative endeavors, and puberty, but with little wrestling with the events of their childhood in the mix. It dismantles a significant amount of the personality profile being revealed to this point. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that not incorporating those moments from their point of view strengthens the arguments made implicitly and by the end overtly that something is mentally "off" with Jennifer and June. I continue the story of the Gibbons Sisters - twins who were locked in a battle their entire lives. Neither believed they could survive without the other, but controlled each other so completely they only spoke to or associated with one another.  When they reached adolescence, they knew they had to find some way to break out of this destructive twin bond or both would perish.  Their desperation lead them to commit increasingly antisocial and criminal acts.  This is part two of "The Silent Twins".  Several resources were used in the research for this episode including:    Marjorie Wallace, The Silent Twins, (London, Vintage Books 1998).  BBC: Inside Story, The Silent Twin: Without my Shadow. YouTube, Uploaded by GottaFindPants, Nov 20, 2017. https://youtu.be/98WtP1qC61s  Links: Website: www.truecrimepodcast.com Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/onceuponacrimepod

June and Jennifer Gibbons were identical twins who, from a very young age, were so bonded to one another that they created their own “twin language” to communicate speaking only to one another.  They rejected any other relationships including their own parents and siblings.  Later, they would construct a fantasy world that only they inhabited.  This lead to more serious anti-social behavior that resulted in a shocking crime spree.   Several resources were used in the research for this episode including:  Marjorie Wallace, The Silent Twins, (London, Vintage Books 1998).  BBC: Inside Story, The Silent Twin: Without my Shadow. YouTube, Uploaded by GottaFindPants, Nov 20, 2017. https://youtu.be/98WtP1qC61s  Music credits:  Music from https://filmmusic.io: "Reflections" by Alexander Nakarada (https://www.serpentsoundstudios.com/) Licence: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)

5 live Investigates reports on claims that thousands of women and girls with mental health problems are being routinely failed by the NHS - sometimes with tragic consequences. Marjorie Wallace - chief executive of the mental health charity Sane - has called the situation 'the UK's hidden national emergency.' The charity Agenda - an alliance of more than 60 organisations representing women and girls at risk - submitted a Freedom of Information request to 57 NHS mental health trusts in England. But of the 35 trusts which responded, only one had a specific women's mental health strategy. Not only that, but more than half had no policy of routinely asking patients if they'd been abused - and that goes against best practice guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. The Department of Health said: "It is vital that all mental health care, particularly when abuse is involved, takes account of gender. Clinical guidelines are clear on this and the NHS has recently published its strategy for mental health - equality is central to this and we expect this to lead to rapid improvement across all care.".
