What if a lifetime of fitness still isn't enough to guarantee health? In this episode of The Aging Well Podcast, Dr. Jeff Armstrong and Corbin Bruton interviews David Frost—Master Fitness Trainer, world-record endurance rower, and author—about a deeply personal turning point. Despite decades of discipline and high-level fitness, David received a cardiovascular diagnosis that forced him to rethink everything he believed about health and aging. What followed was a deliberate, methodical effort to understand the root causes of disease and build a more sustainable path forward—one grounded in practical habits, consistency, and clarity rather than quick fixes. This conversation explores what it really means to build health span, why fitness alone isn't the full picture, and how ordinary people can take meaningful steps toward a longer, stronger life.Learn more at https://wellpastforty.org/Please, support The Aging Well Podcast by hitting the ‘like' button, subscribing/following the podcast, sharing with a friend, and….Tip Jar! In 1977, former President Richard Nixon decides to break his silence. He agrees to  an all-inclusive interview meant to confront lingering questions about his time in office, specifically the Watergate scandal that ended his Presidency. Sitting across from him is David Frost, a breezy British television host, who many mistakenly believe is not up to the challenge.

Following on from last week's piece about the extent to which I use AI, I've had a surprising number of messages asking which AI I actually use and what for.I should immediately stress that I am not some sort of AI guru. I know people use Claude to write code, automate businesses and build entire internal operating systems. That is beyond me. I can't code. I'm a one-man band, who occasionally hires freelancers. I'm self-taught. But here's what I actually use and what for.I stress the best method of all is trial and error. You get results quickly. If you don't get what you're looking for, adjust the prompt, or try a different app.Let's start with the visual stuff.Pretty much every image accompanying my articles, such as the one above, is generated on Midjourney. I've experimented with ChatGPT, Grok and other image generators, but I like Midjourney's images the most. My prompt is often just the article title plus the aspect ratio. Four options appear. I pick the best one. That alone would have seemed miraculous ten years ago.I also use Midjourney extensively for music videos. For example, in this video about the lighter side of hyperinflationary collapse, almost every visual was AI-generated from the lyrics. My editor, Goat, then used Runway to animate the images. We filmed my face against a green screen and plonked it on top afterwards. If Midjourney didn't produce what I had in mind, I simply kept adjusting the prompt until it did, or I tried another image generator as a last resortEven as recently as five years ago, let alone twenty, to make a video like this would have cost hundreds of thousands, millions even, and taken many months. We would have needed teams of animators, post production specialists, Soho studio space and lord knows what else. That, to my mind, is the genuinely revolutionary part of AI. Democratisation of media and all of that. But on top of it all you still need someone - in this case my editor Goat - who knows what they're doing.People often argue that AI ia replacing creativity. What it is actually doing, at least in my case, is dramatically lowering the cost of production and making creativity available to all. The possibilities for creative littlemen like me are enormous. I made this video using Grok and Neural FramesAnd this one was generated entirely in Neural FramesIronically, we used no AI in the music itself. We edited the videos either in Capcut or FinalCut.By the way, if you enjoy these videos, the first place I upload them is at my comedy Substack, so sign up to that. It's free.Writing, research, advice and moreThis next video, about the most prolific slaving civilisations in history, generated millions of views across social media, and became the most viewed page on this Substack. It is an interesting case. Not because of the images themselves, which were generated with Midjourney, but because of the research. AI couldn't and in some cases wouldn't do it. Claude flat out refused because of the subject matter. It would not engage. (IN other words it is biased). ChatGPT couldn't get its head round what I was trying to do. Grok came closest but in the end I worked with a human researcher, Sam, who I knew from my book, who turned out to be much better.I have paid subscriptions to Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and Venice. I cooled somewhat on Claude after the slavery episode. Around the same time I was in a nasty dispute with three former business colleagues and needed some help. Claude kept getting hysterical and calling on me to speak to a lawyer, which I didn't have the time or budget to do, whereas ChatGPT gave the me the help I was looking for. So between the two episodes Claude has been rather demoted in my office, though I still use it as a sounding board for anything to do with writing - where it is strong - if I want a second or third opinion. I get that the experts think Claude is the boss, but for me it is too captured. ChatGPT has replaced it as my primary all-rounder.In general terms, ChatGPT is the most user-friendly though you have to go into the settings and tell it to stop being sycophantic, as that just gets annoying. (They are all as bad as each other for sycophancy).I'll use them all for brainstorming, proofreading, titles, summarising transcripts, challenging arguments, evaluating, drafting legal docs and agreements, advice, helping with negotiating. But I tend to go to ChatGPT ahead of the others, especially for anything to do with diet, health, personal development, mentoring, problem solving, advice and so on. It is basically having an extremely fast, but not always reliable assistant. You cannot blindly delegate to it, you have to oversee, because it is not always right, even if it behaves like it is. Grok is the best for anything current. If I am writing a satirical song, for example, and I need an overview of a politician or a news story, Grok is best by far. I think it's because Grok has X to mine from. Regarding investments, Grok beats most hedge fund managers, apparently. I use it to gauge sentiment around companies and themes: it can quickly tell me whether people are already talking about it or whether almost nobody is. That is very useful. If thousands of people are discussing a company, the hype cycle is probably already fairly advanced. If nobody is discussing it, that is more interesting. For ongoing projects, however, I still prefer ChatGPT and Claude. I find their their folder systems are more user-friendly and easier to organise, particularly for themes I want to keep coming back to. Grok - or is it me - seems to lose conversations between the app and when I use it via X.Grok could quickly become my go-to allrounder, though I have some shares in SpaceX, so I am probably biased. Broadly speaking I have greater faith in Elon Musk's integrity than I do Sam Altman's, even if for now I have voted with my usage for Sam Altman.Claude may be the most capable technically, particularly for coding and analysis, but I also found it the most censorious. Venice, by contrast, is the least filtered. And it gives you access to Seedance 2.0 (which is the best of the video generators), but it has other technological shortcomings. None of them are neutral, and you still need to judge what they tell you - which requires a functioning brain. I find AI really suits a one-man band like me, who has some experience, knowledge and who still retains a modicum of cognitive ability. It makes me so much more productive. But you still need a functioning brain. At the same time, I would argue that people who refuse to engage with AI at all - while I admire them - are putting themselves at a disadvantage. The productivity gains are simply too large. AI has not made me less creative. If anything, it has made me more productive creatively. Ideas that were once stuck in my head can now be realised. In 1986, The Mystery of Al Capone's Vaults drew a larger audience than the Super Bowl or David Frost's interview with Richard Nixon. The special was intended as a comeback for journalist Geraldo Rivera, built around the dramatic opening of a "vault" beneath Chicago's Lexington Hotel, rumored to contain Al Capone's riches. But when the vault was finally opened live the moment didn't deliver what millions of viewers were expecting. My guest is William Hazelgrove, author of Capone's Vault: The Real Story of the Biggest Disaster in Television History. His book traces how the idea came together, combining Rivera's career arc with the mythology of Capone's hidden fortune, and reconstructs the broadcast itself along with its fallout, showing how the event became a defining example of live television gone wrong. You may not know his name but you surely know his voice(s), especially if you were a late night watcher of the annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. Fred Travalena turned a fine singing voice and a gift for mimicry into a career that lasted well over 40 years. Fred was encouraged in show business by his father, also an entertainer, and he honed his skills and interest during a stint in the Army Special Services. Rich Little discovered Fred working the Catskills and recommended him as a regular opener for David Frost during his Riviera hotel gigs. Fred soon became a Vegas (and Atlantic City) staple and he soon became a popular guest on television talk and variety shows. In his later years, Fred was a favorite on cruise ships and at casino theaters, as well as a frequent voice actor for animated television shows. As always find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Travalena? Get a calcium CT scan - it helped David understand his condition. 18:00 A self-scan system Perceived exertion, rest and hydration are a good guide to how you are feeling each day. David is mindful of recovery as well. What age should you start getting the calcium CT scan done? For men from age 40 and women maybe 50. For the plus wave velocity test this could be done from mid life - age 40 maybe ladies a bit later. Note David is a layman, not a doctor. Rowing training is more 80% steady state and 20% higher intensity. This has trended upwards from about 60% when David was younger. As humans we are slow to recognise when our body moved into the "next" stage. The competitive mindset can make us live in denial of aging. It's not good for you to carry to much body fat - your waist to hip ratio is worth checking. 25:00 Burden or banish? David's new book Sloth and gluttony contribute to heart disease - 80% is preventable. Lifestyle measures can defer the onset of heart disease. Hopefully rowers can start to banish the preventable problem. STRESSED spelled backwards is DESSERTS. Michael Sheen is an award-winning actor. After finding his love for the stage with the West Glamorgan Youth theatre as a teenager, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He spent the 1990s making a name for himself as a stage actor, shining in the classics from Romeo and Juliet to Peer Gynt as well as in 20th century masterpieces such as Look Back in Anger and Amadeus, receiving several Olivier Award nominations along the way.A relocation to the US in the early 2000s with his then partner, the actress Kate Beckinsale, and their young daughter Lily prompted a move into films. His breakthrough came in 2003 when he portrayed Tony Blair in a Stephen Frears film called The Deal. It was the beginning of what became an unlikely specialism: morphing into real people from recent history: Kenneth Williams, David Frost, Brian Clough, Chris Tarrant, and Prince Andrew – with two more outings as Tony Blair thrown in for good measure.Michael was born in Newport, South Wales, in February 1969, the eldest of two children to Meyrick and Irene. He grew up in Port Talbot from the age of eight and considers it his hometown. His first love was football, and he was spotted as youngster by an Arsenal talent scout to play for their youth team. His parents decided against moving the family to London and he turned to acting instead and graduated from RADA in 1991.Alongside the classic dramas, his range extends to appearing in fantasy and science fiction films such as The Twilight Saga and Tron: Legacy. Michael has said that the most meaningful project to him was a modern restaging of the passion play in Port Talbot in 2011, which involved the participation of a thousand local people, because it opened his eyes to the difficulties many of them were experiencing. He has since used his own money to fund the 2019 Homeless World Cup in Cardiff and set up an organisation which supports community groups. Michael lives in Wales with his partner, the actress Anna Lundberg, and their two young daughters. From punk rocker to pasta sauce pioneer, Loyd Grossman has lived many lives—and he tells the stories with all the colour and humour you'd expect. In this episode, Loyd looks back at his unlikely journey from fronting a chart-climbing band to backing Van Morrison on stage, before swapping guitar strings for restaurant reviews and TV stardom. His take on the difference between the US and UK punk scenes alone is worth the listen.Food, of course, is never far away. Loyd recalls arriving in 1970s London, a time often maligned for its bland cooking, and sets the record straight with tales of surprising sophistication: Margaret Costa's influential writing, brilliant trattorias, and the early days of Le Caprice, when he was sometimes the only diner in the room. He explains how these restaurants, along with innovators like Peter Langan and Anton Mosimann, transformed London into a truly global dining city. There are TV tales too. Loyd shares the accidental phone call that led to him co-creating Through the Keyhole with David Frost—an idea born in Camden over steak and chips that went on to become one of Britain's biggest entertainment shows. Then came MasterChef, which he fronted in its gentler, pre-competitive era. He reflects on why he stepped away when the format shifted, and on how the food people cooked on those early episodes reflected changing British tastes. And then, of course, the sauces. Loyd reveals the unlikely beginnings of his now 30-year-old range—how factory trials first turned out “absolutely bloody awful,” why supermarket buyers balked at olive oil, and the moment someone told him his sauces had “too much flavour.” Add to that his failed but fascinating battle to improve NHS food, and you've got an episode packed with stories of grit, wit, and the power of perseverance.--------Please leave us a great rating and a comment and share it with your friends - it really helps us grow as a show.If you're in the industry and are looking for the greatest POS system in the world than look no further -as Blinq are tearing up the rulebook—no long-term contracts, no hidden fees, and no per-device charges.Just £64 a month for unlimited devices and 24/7 UK-based support that's always there, in person when you need it.Built for hospitality, by hospitality, blinq is the fastest, easiest POS system on the market—so intuitive, anyone can use it. David Frost had been at the heart of the UK Government and was deeply involved in seminal moments in British history including the Brexit negotiations and the Covid crisis. A deeply principled man, he quit the government over his opposition to further Covid restrictions and said subsequently that he believes that lockdowns are a serious policy error. In this special interview, he addressed in-depth the Covid crisis and the real reasons for the government's response to it, the use of behavioural psychology, the relationship of the government to the UK media, Brexit, the green agenda, free speech and the online harms bill. We also spoke about the Church of England and its failure to take the opportunity to offer hope in the midst of fear. Lord Frost ended this discussion with an exhortation to the Church to remember its true identity and to stop aping secular politicians.Daniel and Jamie also reflected upon the discussion with Lord Frost and caught up on the notable news for the second week of February 2022: the ending of Covid restrictions in England, the Church of England bishops' plans to alter the nature of the Church by creating bishops for certain issues such as Brexit and Covid, and Justin Welby's comments on the moral imperative to embrace radical collectivism.Subscribe to Jamie's blog Good Things! Buy Jamie's Book! Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve

This week it's across the pond to meet one of Great Britain's most beloved comedians, Frankie Howerd. After serving in WWII, Frankie launched his show business career, first gaining fame on radio and in music hall revues. When his popularity began to wane, Frankie tried different formats but it was a regular spot on David Frost's hit show That Was The Week That Was that brought him back into pubic view. After that, Frankie mixed movie roles. stage appearances, and television guest spots. He even had a key role as Mr. Mustard in the Bee Gee's ill-fated movie version of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. A recipient of the Order of the British Empire, Frankie has also been remembered with documentaries and a biopic. As always find extended cuts below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Frankie? Frankie was part of the cast of That Was the Week That Was -- a seminal slice of British satire and one that showcased his unusual delivery. https://youtu.be/oLk4g3TL6Rk?si=5_KsO6KbRpGqd_1c After a stint on TW3 returned Frankie to the public eye he got his own variety show. Not much exists online from that show, but this episode will give you a taste. https://youtu.be/Jys5-x-Flew?si=DNCrGxx1g8oYYqs3 After Frankie starred in a smash revival of A Funny Think Happened on the Way to the Forum, which led to a fun series -- Up Pompeii! -- set in Ancient Rome. Frankie played a smart aleck slave named Lurcio who would often talk directly to the audience. Here's a full episode. https://youtu.be/SoyuS1niq6E?si=uEnsYVkiHpQ3grjo Later in his career, Frankie was a mainstay on tv variety programs, including this bit from the Royal Variety Performance in 1982.https://youtu.be/Qw6kSF0ZLZw?si=tzdzr45Oymtdfp0j

How to use your glutes in rowing. Timestamps 00:45 Are your glutes activating? David Frost (webinar speaker - Functional Movement for over 60s) said Are your glutes 'along for the ride'? https://fastermastersrowing.com/member-register/functional-strength-and-movement/ Are your glutes working - how do you know if they are working? Watch video of yourself rowing - check your legs are pressing down flat and your arms draw. But can you see your back swing? Are you starting leaning forward and do your shoulders move dynamically? Activating the back swing uses the glutes. They are the hinge that connects your legs to your back. 02:30 Legs initiate the drive The power phase starts with your legs and when you get to a point where your legs are very nearly straight, you should be beginning your back swing. If it's passive and isn't accelerating the oar through the water (if the water mound in front of the spoon reduces) you aren't using your back enough to go faster than the boat is currently going through the water. Your body has to move quicker than the blade to keep pressure on the face of the oar spoon. 03:30 Why glutes matter If your back is passive then you've probably lost connection to the foot stretcher. When you do activate your glutes you're recruiting extra muscles to power your stroke. But it's hard to activate the glutes. Strengthening the glutes is also important so we can make them really useful. Christiano Ronaldo the footballer was warming up with glute activations - this is interesting - an elite pro athlete still feels the need to activate his glutes before starting playing. 06:00 Exercises for glute strength 1 - Clamshell - lie on your side on the floor, knees bent and ankles pressed together. Raise and lower the upper knee. Swap sides. 2 - Fire Hydrant - kneeling on all fours with hands below the shoulders. Lift one knee out to the side with a bent leg. Raise and lower the knee keeping the ankle at the same height as the knee. 3 - Crab Walk - Using a gym elastic band across your thighs, crouch down a little and walk sideways 10 steps in each direction. 08:00 How to activate glutes for rowing First know how to activate the muscle and know what it feels like when it is working before trying it in the boat. When approaching the catch clench your bum (butt). You are looking for the feeling of 'holding in a fa*t and you don't want to let it out'. This activates the muscles and when you drive with your legs, the muscles are engaged. Watch the numbers on the erg first - do 10 strokes approaching the catch first. Then do normal rowing without clenching for 10 strokes. For an improved back swing, the body swing only drill is good to do - get a video of it free from the Coach Mastermind course.

New Wordsaim n. /eɪm/ 目标;目的Her main aim is to finish the project on time.她的主要目标是按时完成项目。aim v. /eɪm/ 旨在;瞄准This campaign aims to raise public awareness.这项活动旨在提高公众意识。naturally adv. /ˈnætʃrəli/ 自然地;天生地;当然Children naturally love to play.孩子们天生喜欢玩耍。Quote to learn for todayDon't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.——David Frost翻译如果你想要成功,就不要刻意追求它;只需做你热爱并相信的事,成功自然会来。—— 大卫・弗罗斯特更多卡卡老师分享公众号:卡卡课堂 卡卡老师微信:kakayingyu001送你一份卡卡老师学习大礼包,帮助你在英文学习路上少走弯路

Wilfred Frost is the host of Sky News' breakfast show, a frequent contributor on CNBC, and can now add podcast host to his resume, too. These roles have a few things in common, but the most important throughline for Wilfred is how they allow him to flex his favorite muscle – interviewing. On this episode of Press Profiles – live from Wilfred's home turf in London – we explore the art of the interview and what he learned about it from a pretty good role model – his dad, David Frost, legendary journalist of "Frost Nixon" fame. Among many other things, Wilfred tells us how his father taught him the importance of having a genuine interest in people and how he channels that in his own work. We also discuss his circuitous path to journalism, his favorite restaurants from London to NYC, his dream interview guest, and why he feels lucky to have a job that he loves.

Strength and Mobility are the main things you will notice first. Strength diminishes differently between men and women 50s versus 60s. Your 60s is a 'hold steady' decade. Read article. Use the Facebook group to post questions and get answers from people who have the same issues. https://www.facebook.com/groups/595853370615544/ 04:00 Mobility and aging Range of movement in joints is important - pelvic mobility in the hips to get into the rowing stroke positions. Flexibility is also key. Adapting Rowing Rigging For Masters Physiology article https://fastermastersrowing.com/adapting-rowing-rigging-for-masters-physiology/ Try to maintain your technique and range of motion as you age. Adjust rigging to accommodate physical limitations - some are easy, medium and hard - they take tools and more time to set up. We can still always improve our technique as we age. Despite losing strength, masters rowers can always be more skilful at the catch, get the blade in without slip, get a full leg drive, recruit extra muscles to add to power delivery. Technique has no regard for age - you can improve at all ages. What is the next horizon for you? https://fastermastersrowing.com/rowing-and-aging-each-decade/ Most of us delay making changes - if you are losing strength, you should be shortening your oars (Volker Nolte Rigging Webinar has charts for oar designs, Men and Women). Most masters row on oars which are too long for their strength and capability. https://fastermastersrowing.com/member-register/rigging/ This webinar includes - Volker Nolte's oar rigging chart – learn how to rig your oars correctly based on the oar make and spoon design - Mike Purcer's Masters 1x rigging chart (span, oar length, inboard) different for men and women.
