Portland's Iconic Collective FEDERALE released their sixth studio album, "Reverb & Seduction" on Jealous Butcher Records and also marking the band's 20th Anniversary. In the 20 years of their existence, Federale has carved out a unique niche within the indie music landscape, blending their signature spaghetti-Western instrumental sound with increasing doses of moody vocal arrangements in the spirit of Lee Hazlewood and Leonard Cohen. Through it all, I spoke with songwriter and lead singer COLLIN HEGNA – who also spent the last 20 years as a dues-paying member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre – maintains a strictly retro vibe. Federale's records have always sounded period-correct for an alternate-universe 1971, where rock and roll never caught on. Earlier, the band released the lead track, "Heaven Forgive Me" and "No Stranger" a song that pays homage to the legendary Lee Hazlewood. Recorded at Hegna's Revolver Studios in Portland, this album was engineered by Collin Hegna, Matt Thomson and Andrew Joslyn, who boasts five 5 Grammy Award winning albums. The album was mixed by Hegna with Jeff Stuart Saltzman (The Black Keys, The High Violets) and Matt T.To watch the interview on You Tube : https://www.youtube.com/@DJNocturnahttps://federalepdx.comhttps://linktr.ee/FederalePDX

These two scientists have mapped out the insides or “reachable space” of a language model using control theory, what they discovered was extremely surprising. Please support us on Patreon to get access to the private Discord server, bi-weekly calls, early access and ad-free listening. https://patreon.com/mlst YT version: https://youtu.be/Bpgloy1dDn0 Aman Bhargava from Caltech and Cameron Witkowski from the University of Toronto to discuss their groundbreaking paper, “What's the Magic Word? A Control Theory of LLM Prompting.” (the main theorem on self-attention controllability was developed in collaboration with Dr. Shi-Zhuo Looi from Caltech). They frame LLM systems as discrete stochastic dynamical systems. This means they look at LLMs in a structured way, similar to how we analyze control systems in engineering. They explore the “reachable set” of outputs for an LLM. Essentially, this is the range of possible outputs the model can generate from a given starting point when influenced by different prompts. The research highlights that prompt engineering, or optimizing the input tokens, can significantly influence LLM outputs. They show that even short prompts can drastically alter the likelihood of specific outputs. Aman and Cameron's work might be a boon for understanding and improving LLMs. They suggest that a deeper exploration of control theory concepts could lead to more reliable and capable language models. Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera are nominated while Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig are passed up. Barry Keoghan and Masters of the Air costars visit the white house. Austin Butler hires a coach to get rid of his Elvis accent. ⚡ Matty Healy is back in good graces with fans largely due to making appearances in Gabriette's videos and re-emerging on Instagram. This is yet a new iteration of Matty's continuous downfall and redemption within The 1975 fandom. We explore the line fans are willing to walk with Matty, whether or not he is putting on a provocative persona, and the complicated nature of navigating fan relationships once you've hit a certain level of fame. ⚡ Explicit AI-generated images of Taylor Swift went viral on Twitter this week, causing the platforms to remove the content only after it was viewed 45 millions times. This raised concerns with the US government about the use of AI to create deepfake porn. We discuss Taylor Swift's power in getting the government involved, men's relationship to consuming pornographic images of women, and how creating deepfake porn is an act of gaining power over women. We also explore the future of AI in visual art and music, whether fans will adopt or reject AI as consumers, and how capitalism and overconsumption ties into all of it. Enjoy this episode? The Amazons are a four-piece rock group from Reading, England. Their third album, How Will I Know If Heaven Will Find Me? is incredibly personal - a lot of its songs focus on frontman Matt Thomson's long-distance relationship with his partner. In a wider sense, the record explores the feeling of loving someone from a distance & of longing for the things we miss - after the past few years, these are feelings we can all relate to.
