Join Tamara and David for an interview with The Maxines, "a badass all chick rock band in Savannah, GA - grunge w/ a kiss of metal." They're led by AJ Grey on vocals, with Emma Smith on bass, and twins Coco and Maddie Oke on drums and guitar. You might remember them from our musical episode back around Thanksgiving - if not, go have a listen! The Maxines released their debut album "Skin Tight" - named after the first song they ever wrote - back on October 1.  Their next show will be Feb 24 at El Rocko!  Listen to The Maxines and follow them here:  https://www.instagram.com/themaxinesband/ https://themaxinesband.bandcamp.com/album/skin-tight   Topics in their chat include: Their great experience recording their recent and first album, Skin Tight, with Scary of Black Tusk; their new bassist Emma, who replaced Veronica Garcia-Melendez (a previous interviewee on the show!); the addition of an instrument called a "donkey jaw;" how the band formed through word-of-mouth of various female musicians around Savannah, and all of the shared songs they wanted to cover; AJ's physicality during their performances and her philosophy on preparing ahead of time for that; Madonna's lifelong influence; working through the stage fright of their first performance; the complicated bass solo in their song "Letter to a Pill" and how Emma faces it; the success of their first show - an open mic in late 2021 at the Wormhole; their collaborative process of songwriting; going on their recent first tour, lasting 2 weeks, with Savannah band Neckromance; how Coco and Maddie have taught themselves screenprinting to produce all of the band's merch; the excitement of getting CDs made (they still have some available!); their brand-new band manager!; the success of the album release party / music fest they threw in October; new experimental sounds they look forward to trying, such as megaphones; and how metal singers take care of their voices, both in general and especially on tour.  Tune in and get all the details!

Happy holiday season! We're celebrating with a special show of music by some of Savannah's beloved local musicians. First, Matt Eckstine, voted Best Local Americana/Folk/Roots Band/Artist in Connect Savannah's "Best of 2022" awards. Harnessing a wide range of influences from Tom Petty and Jack Johnson to Steve Earle and James Taylor, Matt released his debut solo album in 2017. In 2020, the mandatory quarantine provided him with an opportunity to move to a home studio, resulting in "Lil' Blue," 8 brand new tracks that vary in sound and feel but are grounded in their influence. We're playing 9 of his songs, most of which are from that album, plus a few older ones.   https://www.instagram.com/matteckstinemusic/ https://www.matteckstinemusic.com/  Then after our station break, switching the vibe up! We're playing music by The Maxines, an all-female rock band led by AJ Grey on vocals, with Emma Smith on bass, and twins Coco and Maddie Oke on drums and guitar. With angsty, swoon-worthy guitar riffs and moody vocals paired with powerful performances, their mesh of grunge rock and metal speaks for itself. Listen here to 6 songs from their debut album "Skin Tight" - named after the first song they ever wrote - just released on October 1 of this year.  https://www.instagram.com/themaxinesband/ https://themaxinesband.bandcamp.com/album/skin-tight Stay tuned for future weeks of the show, because we will be featuring an interview with each of these bands, as separate episodes, as well!

About the Show: On this episode of the podcast, we sit down with Hannah Withers.  Hannah along with her husband Ben Gitchel are the owners of Maxine’s Tap Room and the Leverett Lounge both in Fayetteville.  Hannah has been working in a food-retail environment since she was thirteen years of age. Those valuable experiences coupled with her husbands time as a Saucier have brought them to the place we find them today. Maxine’s Tap Room was just named one of the best bars in America by Esquire Magazine and Leverett Lounge is a culinary experience to behold. Hear how Hannah and Ben started the Little Bread Company one of their first businesses in Eureka Springs and how they brought it to Fayetteville during the economic downturn of 2008, persevered and built the business up and eventually sold it to some of the employees.   Not to be outdone with the success of the Little Bread Company, Hannah and Ben were introduced to Maxine’s niece and the rest, as they say, is history.  Next up came the Leverett Lounge which originally started as a Laundromat and Sliders establishment but eventually became one of the most popular neighborhood restaurants in all of Fayetteville, the Leverett Lounge.   All of this and more on this episode of I am Northwest Arkansas.   Important Links: The Little Bread Company Maxine’s Tap Room The Leverett Lounge This episode is sponsored by: Email info@iamnorthwestarkansas.com to learn more about sponsorship opportunities.

We may have been gone for a little bit, but we’re trying to make up for it by having a podcast that’s bursting at the seams with wrestling goodness this week. It’s the full crew this week, so you’ve got Kris, Colin and Peter breaking down what’s been going for the last month or so in the world of WWE, as well a few brief looks at the wider world. However, before we get to that, we should point out that this episode, as per usual, contains major SPOILERS for the last month or so of WWE programming.Of course, the biggest thing that’s happened recently in WWE is the Brand Split, with Raw and SmackDown Live getting their own rosters, stories, and distinct looks. The guys give their thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of those rosters, as well as what WWE needs to do in regards to their current titles. There’s also the currently ongoing Cruiserweight Classic, which Peter and Kris have been really enjoying recently. The matches, commentary and presentation all earned praise, although it’s worth noting that this episode was recorded before the final set of first round matches were shown, so there’s nothing on the wonderful matches from the latest show. Finally, the majority of this episode is dedicated to looking back at the recent Battleground event. While it’s safe to say that no-one was really blown away by the show, it was reasonably well received. This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all.As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download). You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here. The show is also available via iTunes, where we’d really appreciate reviews if you like the show.Get us on Twitter:Kris - @halbproColin - @Barr66Peter - @colossalblueBy Gawd! - @ByGawdBlogTheme Credit“Maxines” by Texas Music Forge is licensed under CC BY-NC 3.0

It may have taken us a little while, but we’ve finally had the time to look back over Extreme Rules. Alas, Peter wasn’t there for the discussion this time, but Colin and Kris ran down the show in record time, giving their fews on the show before looking at how WWE has progressed their storylines forwards from there to Money in the Bank.Of course, this does mean that the show features SPOILERS for WWE Extreme Rules, so don’t say you haven’t been warned. On top of that, there’s a run down of the recent news. The guys discuss Brock Lesnar’s UFC appearance, Will Ospreay’s success in Japan and the possible outcomes of the upcoming brand split. Well it’s been a little while since our last podcast, but we’re back with a double header. With Payback now well and truly behind us, and Extreme Rules very nearly here, it seemed only fair that we looked at both of the shows. Unfortunately Peter couldn’t make the recording slot for this and episode, but that didn’t deter Kris and Colin, who sat down and looked at each of the pay-per-views and how the outcomes of Payback have moved onto the setup for Extreme Rules. It’s worth noting that, of course, there are massive spoilers for Payback in this episode. Kris and Colin discussed the show at length, and looked at the outcome of every match, as well as how WWE have moved their various feuds forwards since then. This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all.As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download). You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here. The show is also available via iTunes, where we’d really appreciate reviews if you like the show.Get us on Twitter:Kris - @halbproColin - @Barr66By Gawd! - @ByGawdBlogTheme Credit“Maxines” by Texas Music Forge is licensed under CC BY-NC 3.0

So the biggest wrestling of the weekend happened, and I think it’s fair to say reactions were fairly mixed. Our infrequent podcasting schedule continues with a look back at Fastlane and Roadblock, as well as a look forward to WrestleMania. Kris and Colin sat down to discuss all of these topics alongside the current storylines that WWE are running with. Does the Undertaker vs Shane O’Mac match make any sense? What do they think about AJ Styles vs Chris Jericho story line? Just what are you supposed to call this year’s WrestleMania now WWE have dropped the number? All of that, and more, is answered on this episode. It is, however, worth noting that this episode was recorded before WWE announced more of the WrestleMania card, so some of the speculation now seems wildly outdated. Hell in a Cell has been and gone, and Colin and Kris actually managed to find some time to talk about WWE’s most recent PPV. As per usual, this episode is packed full of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen Hell in a Cell yet probably give it a miss. The guys also cover a bit of the post-Hell in a Cell Raw, so be aware of that. With that said, over the course of this hour long episode, Colin and Kris break down the show, highlighting their favourite bits and dismissing those elements that just didn’t do much for them. They also take a quick look at where things are going next, as WWE build towards Survivor Series. The general feeling about SummerSlam seemed to be one of confusion in this episode of the podcast. While Kris, Colin and Peter all had some ideas about how things will pan out, they’re pretty much stumped by both of the main events. That’s either a good thing, as it means WWE aren’t following their usual formula, or a terrible thing, as it means everything will be a huge mess. I guess the only way to find out will be to watch the show. The guys also took time to quickly preview NXT Takeover on the podcast, mostly focusing on the practicalities of Liger’s mask. It was a weird segment. - @ByGawdBlogTheme Credit”Maxines“ by Texas Music Forge is licensed under CC BY-NC 3.0.

After a longer than intended break we are back! In the podcast’s absence a lot has been going on, and Colin and Kris broke down a few of their highlights. From Seth Rollins lack of credible challengers to the abundance of challengers that John Cena has created with the US Title Open Challenge, the guys take a look at everything they’ve been enjoying, culminating in a look at the epic battle between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker. On a sadder note, this episode was recorded before the passing of Roddy Piper. Kris recorded a short tribute to Piper to open the episode, and of course our thoughts are with his family. - @ByGawdBlogTheme Credit”Maxines“ by Texas Music Forge is licensed under CC BY-NC 3.0.

While this episode of the podcast breaks down everything that happened during WrestleMania 31, the sheer quality of the show is the obvious headline.Yes, this episode see Kris, Colin and Peter sit down to discuss what happened on WWE’s biggest show of the year, chronicling all the twists and turns that happened throughout the night. Much like the rest of the wrestling world, this episode of the By Gawd podcast sees us gearing up for the grandaddy of them all, WrestleMania. Yes, we’re back from another break in our recording schedule to give you our thoughts on how WrestleMania 31 will pan out, as well as what we think of the build up to the biggest show of the year.On this episode are Kris, Colin and Peter, and they break down pretty much everything about the show, kicking off with the recent news that Brock Lesnar has signed a new, multi-year deal with WWE, keeping him with the company well after WrestleMania. The guys talk about how they think this will affect WrestleMania itself, as well as the implications for story lines long term. They also talk about the situation with the US and Intercontinental Championships, and whether the entrance of John Cena and Daniel Bryan into the title pictures is the start of a resurgence for the second tier titles, or just a momentary blip. Beyond that, they run down the rest of the card, talking Undertaker vs Bray Wyatt, Triple H vs Sting, and everything else. Basically if you care about WrestleMania at all, then this is the episode for you. Finally, it’s worth noting that there are some minor audio quality issues with this podcast. We’ve done our best to fix them, but we do apologise for any inconsistencies in the audio.
