Forrest Saucier joined me for Episode No. 138, and it was an absolute treat to get to know him a little bit.Forrest is a son, a sibling, a partner, a man of numerous hats, and he's an important figure over at Tyler's House, which is a youth-oriented, non-profit organization over on the Kansas side that -- for my money -- is an amazing concept that needs more eyeballs on it and more of the community's dollars in its bank account. In the world of interviewing, it's always refreshing to have a quick, sharp, eloquent guest on the other side of the table from me, as I tend to offer plenty of "Um"s and "you know"s and generally fumble for the words I seek, so thank you to Forrest for being who he is and what he is.I enjoyed learning a little bit about his journey, and -- as per youzsh -- we managed to have a quick look at a few of Forrest's favorite albums over the years. Those were these:Morning View (2001), IncubusMotion City Soundtrack's Commit This to Memory (2005)Camp (2011), Childish GambinoWatsky's x Infinity (2016)You can follow Forrest on Facebook and Instagram, and you can find most of the Tyler's House deets at either their Web site, on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. They've got a great program going over there, and they could use some funds and some grassroots word spread, in case you happen to be a person that can help in either (or both) of those directions. Many thanks to Mr. Saucier for the time and the flexibility and the conversation. And many thanks to all of you whom support the show.Note: Snorg Tees, not College Humorcopyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio clips contained within this episode. When Bill Downs from Saucier, Mississippi, opens up about the shattering loss from a drunk driving accident, the weight of his words carries a raw, transformative power. His compelling journey, marked by profound grief, anger at God, and eventual reconciliation with faith, is a testament to the human spirit's capacity to seek light amidst the darkest times. Joined by Dr. Andrew Farley, we explore the steadfastness of God's love and the path to healing that can begin with one pivotal moment of forgiveness. My own narrative intertwines with Bill's as we consider what it means to look at life through 'grace eyes' rather than 'religious eyes.' The transition from living in fear of condemnation to embracing the freedom and love offered by Jesus Christ is not just personal; it's a universal shift that can redefine your existence. Through my story, I invite you to reflect on the joy and liberation that come from laying down your burdens and opening your heart to the transformative power of grace. This episode isn't simply a collection of stories; it's a mosaic of hope, love, and the enduring presence of Jesus in our lives. Whether you're searching for meaning in the midst of loss, yearning to shed the shackles of religious expectations, or seeking a deeper, more authentic connection with your faith, our candid conversations aim to support and inspire. We encourage you to share your experiences, drawing strength from the resilience and love that bind us in our collective journey toward a life filled with purpose and divine guidance. If you would like to share your story, click this link: https://thepromoter.org/story/ Thanks for Listening, and subscribe to hear a new episode each week!

I have SOMETHING to say!

In 2017, when Hurricane María impacted Puerto Rico, I met Dr. Ashley Saucier through email and then a phone call. She had access to medical supplies and planes and was in the thick of coordinating disaster relief and medicine to be flown there. We quickly became comrades (or comadres) sharing information and supporting each other's efforts to help prevent an even larger health crisis on the island – depleted of most of its resources. We reconnected through LinkedIn a few weeks ago and in this episode of I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY she shares how she's become an influencer and healthcare advocate from the lens of being a mom AND a physician specializing in pediatric emergency medicine. After the catastrophic flooding in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she's from, Dr. Saucier along with some of her friends, formed BREAC225 (Baton Rouge Emergency Aid Coalition). Since then, they have been able to aid in hurricane, flood, and other disaster relief efforts due to their expertise in the matter and because their hearts are filled with compassion.  She's also part of a network of thousands of ‘mom physicians' from across the country that are quick to intervene in moments of crisis. When Dr. Saucier is not saving someone, she's being a scientist and encouraging her two boys to get down and dirty with their home experiments. “Kids are born scientists, and there are many ways you can foster curiosity, experimentation, and discovery in children right at home. It's OK if they make a mess!,” she shares. After being terminated by the hospital she had been working for almost a decade, she's now dedicating her time to exercising entrepreneurship. Amid this transition, Dr. Saucier is excited to have the freedom of investing her energy and resources into creating a platform that will provide parents with easy, fun, and inexpensive ways to do science at home. And while she certainly hopes no other catastrophes happen, if they do, she will continue to show up for communities in need to help lessen their sense of fear, loss, and despair. Ashley, you are my SHERO!!!

It's somehow almost the final week of June and that means the NHL Draft and free agency are just around the corner. Before Hunter gets to some free agency stuff, he starts the show off by touching on a couple of promotions that the Penguins announced on Monday. One is a long-time player in the organization getting a pretty prominent role, while the other is taking Andy Saucier's role from the last few years. He gives his thoughts on those moves and how much could change over the next few seasons (especially in Saucier's old job) before getting to Mark Friedman's season review? How was his first real season of action? Could he provide the team with more value next season? Is he able to play higher up in the lineup if he's not the No. 7? After that, Hunter touches on an option that fans aren't thinking about enough when it comes to the second-line center spot if Malkin doesn't come back. Hint: Part of it involves signing a premier winger. Finally, Hunter ends the show with a little Jeff Prety rumor and whether it's worth it for the Penguins to trade for him if Kris Letang walks. Non Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) provides insight into the risk of a fetal genetic abnormality, and can help inform pregnancy management before and after birth. However, the value of genetic screening is dependent on whether results are interpreted correctly, appropriate medical follow-up, and access to relevant resources.  Genetic counselors help to ensure that NIPT is translated into better prenatal care. However, many women who receive NIPT do not visit a genetic counselor.  In this episode, Jennifer Saucier, board-certified genetic counselor who currently serves as the Senior Director of Clinical Genetic Services at Natera, discusses: What is the difference between carrier screening and prenatal screening and diagnostic testing? Who needs prenatal screening, and what week is prenatal screening? Why should patients ask for these screening tests? Does insurance usually cover NIPT? Carrier screening? The future of screening: Can we test for risk of addiction? Can science lead us to gene editing or alteration and if so, what does this mean? What does a genetic counselor do? How do you find a genetic counselor? That first OB appointment expectant parents have is so overwhelming. Your healthcare provider gives a lot of information in a short period of time. - Jennifer Saucier  Resources: Spotify Podcast Playlist on Pregnancy Find a Genetic Counselor If you liked this episode and you're feeling generous, don't forget to leave a review on iTunes or Spotify!
