Welcome to The Best Games Ever Show episode 59: The best game with the worst gimmick. There are plenty of crap games with bad gimmicks. Tony Hawk: RIDE, for example, which was built around a terrible skateboard-shaped controller peripheral and was basically a terrible game as a result. Or Crime Boss: Rockay City, which is a painfully bottom tier heist game which boasts “Vanilla Ice is in this” as its entire USP. Then, of course, there's the Kinect library. The entire Kinect library. But still, look, just because something has a bad gimmick, doesn't mean it isn't otherwise great. Wade Barrett was weighed down with the Bad News Barrett gimmick for ages, but he was talented enough to somehow make it work. Alfred Hitchcock had a rubbish gimmick of always giving himself a cameo in his films, depriving legitimate actors of vital cameo appearances. But what of video games? What are the otherwise superb video games that are saddled with rubbish gimmicks, and of them, which is the best? We are wild and young! We have just begun! Mr. McMahon announced 3 weeks ago that WWE ECW was no longer going to be on TV. In its place was the “Next Evolution Of WWE!” This new show was called WWE NXT and it would feature current WWE Superstars as Pros and current FCW wrestlers as Rookies. It was a competition show that would eventually feature a game show style format with such games as chugging soda! However, we look back on the very first episode of NXT that is centered around Daniel Bryan being an internet darling dork and him not getting along with his pro The Miz! The main event features a great match between Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan with some terrific wrestling. We also get hype packages for most of the rookies to learn a little more about their characters. This was a wild experiment in television history, that for good or bad, will not be forgotten. Finding an activity outside of school that is developmentally appropriate and inclusive of neurodivergent children or children with speech and language difficulties can be a challenge for parents. While many of our kids may excel in physical activities, they may struggle to attend for long periods, follow multiple step instructions, or need repetition. Other children may have fine or gross motor difficulties which require extra instruction or accommodation. Finding a program with coaches that have the patience, passion, and knowledge to work with this population is often rare. Fortunately, Soccer Shots Houston offers programs for all students! In this episode we sit down with Wade Barrett, Executive Director of Soccer Shots Houston to discuss what makes their program special, why he is so passionate about meeting children where they are to support growth, and why teaching soccer is not their main mission! Wade also gives tips to parents on ways to advocate for your child when looking into other programs and tips for how to find a program that will work for your child and family. Wade Barrett is a former professional soccer player; he spent 12 years playing for various clubs all over the world including the Houston Dynamo. Wade captained the Dynamo to back-to-back MLS Cup Championships in 2006 and 2007 and has also represented the Men's National team on the pitch. After his playing career, Wade spent 7 years coaching for the Dynamo, most recently as the Head Coach.
