“It can become dangerous when certain fitness professionals who are down only one “rabbit hole” become so defensive about that and are not open to anything else.” “You have no idea how much 30 seconds of showing genuine interest, especially in a child, what that might do. That might change their whole life.” “(When it comes to reaching people) It’s more about listening and responding thoughtfully as opposed to telling them what you think they want to hear.” Dana Santas, the Mobility Maker, author of “The Practical Solutions for Back Pain Relief” Connect with Dana on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Thanks to MariGold Bars for sponsoring the "Stop & Give Me 5 Segment" The Stop and Give Me 20 Podcast features 20 minute interviews with some of the World's Top Fitness Professionals. Each show will start with their story of what led them into a fitness lifestyle; the spark that fueled their passion to help change lives through their fitness. It moves into the "Superhero Section", where the conversation moves into 1) Who their biggest influences were growing up and who their real life Superhero was, 2) Who their Superhero is now- who in the world they look up to and who they are trying to emulate, and 3) Who they want to be Superheros to with their message. We might discuss their opinions on what is happening in the fitness industry, good and bad, and where they might think it’s going. Sometimes we find out some of the books they are reading and seminars they are attending and what their takeaways are. At some point in the show we always do the "Stop & Give Me 5" segment, and that’s basically 5 rapid fire questions (not always rapid fire answers). It’s a fun segment that we make personal to them to try to get an inside look about some of the things that they are interested in. We finish each show with a "Letter to Your Younger Self", where guests are asked to give their younger self advice.
There are two types of people who say that flexibility doesn't matter. The first group is stiff as a board and want an excuse for their lack of mobility. The second group consists of people who have always been flexible, the dancers and gymnasts who flop into the splits like it's nothing. For the rest of us, flexibility absolutely matters. It impacts our posture, our walking and running gates, and even our potential for injury. On this week's Yoga Talk Show, you'll meet a yoga teacher working with professional athletes to improve their mobility—and the stakes couldn't be higher. These are people whose body is their business. They need to train hard, recover fast, and injury prevention is a top priority. ------------ Listen & Learn: How mobility training gets integrated into professional sports training How yoga teachers can add value to athletes, adapting their teaching and language to meet students where they're at Why flexibility training should be done after (not before) strength or conditioning How flexibility training can temporarily reduce power and joint stability, but why that doesn't mean you should avoid it ABOUT OUR GUEST Dana Santas, also known as the "Mobility Maker," is a mind-body coach for professional sports teams.
