International Bestselling Author Mental-Emotional-Physical Health Expert Practical No BS Self-Love, Life Purpose & Meditation “All suffering — including depression, insecurity, anxiety and physical disease — is a result of us never learning how to love, value and be true to ourselves on a daily basis. Our struggles and negative thinking are caused by us rejecting our true self, making our feelings wrong, and constantly trying to please others in exchange for love, acceptance, attention, approval and security. This daily self-destruction, which is passed down from generation to generation,  breaks our heart, creates toxic stress, weakens our immune system and leads us into unhealthy personal and professional situations. We each can overcome the hurt, anger, fear and guilt within us by learning how to care for our body, heart and mind now. Understanding how to be accepting, honest and kind with ourselves is the most direct path to feeling well, fulfilling our purpose, enjoying our lives and loving fully before we die. It's up to each of us to break the cycle of self-harm and suffering for ourselves and future generations.” https://www.unconditional-selflove.com/

Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food.

Jim Harshaw shares stories and strategies on how failure is essential to eventually becoming successful. On March 20, 1998, Jim Harshaw ended his sixteenth year of wrestling ended in a locker room with blood on his face and tears in his eyes. He had just lost the match to become an NCAA Division I All American. He had one more season at the University of Virginia. One more chance. And exactly one year later, in front of over 14,000 fans at the NCAA Championships, He did it. He earned a place on the podium as one of just eight wrestlers in the country with the status of Division I All American. Jim followed a blueprint for success to get there. The same blueprint got him invited to the Olympic Training Center and took him overseas to compete on a US National Team. Unfortunately, no one taught him how to apply this blueprint to life outside of athletics. Fast forward 15 years, and He was working below his potential and feeling stuck. But then he started noticing patterns in my life. Patterns of failure and success. He noticed them in business, in personal relationships, in his health and well-being, and in his level of happiness. These patterns reminded Jim of how I'd failed as a wrestler. And how He'd been successful. Jim began to see how those lessons could be replicated throughout my life. When he looked at other former athletes who had been able to achieve success, the same patterns were there. That's when he knew he'd found a framework for creating a path to elite success in the real world.

#20 Vipassana Meditation: David Rachford on Seeing Things as They Really Are

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 11, 2016 27:29

In this episode, I share my experience from my second visit to the California Vipassana Center where I recently sat for a 10 day silent meditation retreat.  I discuss meditation, and how to start and maintain a practice. Vipassana is one of the world's most ancient meditative techniques. It was practiced 25 centuries ago by Gotama the Buddha, who said he had rediscovered a much older practice. After his enlightenment in 528 BCE, the Buddha spent the remaining 45 years of his life teaching the way out of suffering. Vipassana is the essence of what he taught. The Buddha's teaching is known by the general term Dhamma (Sanskrit: Dharma). For five centuries Vipassana helped millions of people in India, the Buddha's homeland. This era saw the matchless reign of the great Emperor Asoka (273-236 BCE) who united India and initiated a golden age of peace and prosperity. Asoka also sent ambassadors of Dhamma to all the neighboring kingdoms (including what has become Myanmar in modern times), thereby spreading both the practice and the words of the Buddha. After about 500 years the practice of Vipassana had disappeared from India. Fortunately it was maintained by a continuous chain of meditation teachers in the neighboring country of Myanmar (Burma) until the present day. In our time, Vipassana has been reintroduced to India and to people from all over the world by S. N. Goenka, a retired industrialist of Indian heritage who was born in Myanmar. He learned the technique of Vipassana from Sayagyi U Ba Khin, the renowned lay Vipassana teacher who was the first to teach westerners in English. Larry Hagner is the founder of The Good Dad Project and author of bestselling book: "The Dad's Edge." His story and passion for being a father is a bit unique. Larry grew up virtually in “fatherless environment” for most of my life.  He didn't meet his real father until he was 30 years old.  As fate would have it, their paths crossed when he walked into a coffee shop eight years ago.  They now have a great relationship now and spend a great deal of time together. It was really through his own childhood struggles that Larry realized true passion for being a dad. Children are not born with manuals and the Journey of Fatherhood doesn't necessarily come with a “map.”  There are challenges, twists, and turns along the way. Larry says: "as much as we truly enjoy our children and being a father, we tend to internalize our struggles.  When we do that, we get distracted and stressed out.  As a result, we do not enjoy the Journey of being a Dad as much as we would really like to." Larry is not a psychologist or counselor in family dynamics.  He doesn't have any accolades behind my name. He's an everyday dad trying to do the best job he can. He strives to be the best version of himself so he can guide his kids to be the best version of themselves. If you like what you hear, please subscribe, rate and review on iTunes.
