John 13 verses 1-17
When we talk about the affordability crisis, you sometimes hear the term “legislated poverty”, meaning the state of social assistance rates like Ontario Works and ODSP that assure people can never get ahead because the amounts paid never cover all the real costs of daily life. That's why Mike Morrice decided to act when he was elected to the House of Commons in 2021, but like all great quests, it hasn't ended up the way he envisioned. Can one person make a difference? This is the question when you elect anyone, but without a party whip or a legislative agenda, an MP pretty much has to follow their own north star and Kitchener MP Morrice followed his star to a private member's bill called the Canada Disability Benefit Act. The goal was to offer low-barrier, additional assistance to people with disabilities to help get them out of legislated poverty, but as always happens, reality couldn't live up to aspirations. When finished, the act proposed that people with disabilities in Canada will receive *up to* $200 per month once they've been approved for the Disability Tax Credit and all the requisite forms have been filled. On top of that, there was even doubt for a while that disabled people would even start getting their $200 this summer because the Treasury Board hadn't approved the regulations until last week, which wouldn't have happened at all in the event of a snap election. So how does the man who sponsored the Canada Disability Benefit Act feel now that he's on the other side? Morrice will talk about that, why he fought so hard for the act, and why, even though it's watered down, it's still going to be a game changer for people with disabilities in Canada. He will also talk about the ins and outs working with the government to get the bill done, fighting for key provisions to make the bill better, and the marathon the last few weeks to get the regulations finished before any potential election. So let's talk about how the proverbial sausage gets made on this week's Guelph Politicast! You can learn more about the Canada Disability Benefit Act on the Government of Canada's website. You can also check out Mike Morrice's ongoing advocacy on this and other issues at his website. The host for the Guelph Politicast is Podbean. Established in 2019, kiwi band 'NO CIGAR' has already found massive success on a world stage. They toured the Northern Hemisphere in 2023, playing headline shows in the UK and France before dropping back home to play the festival circuit over summer. Self-described as 'semi-rock', the band recently released their sophomore album 'The Great Escape', a coinciding tour taking place from December through to February. When it comes to overseas tours, Lead Guitarist Josh Morrice told Tim Dower that they didn't really know what they were getting into. "We kind of just thought, let's give it a crack." They knew they had fans throughout Europe and the UK, but didn't expect to sell out shows in Amsterdam and London. "London sold out three times, which was pretty, pretty spectacular and pretty amazing to kind of have that happen on our first time." Morrice said that selling out these shows was validating. "It feels like we're doing the right things, and we just need to keep doing it." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week, in Morrice, Michigan, a successful man, with a good job, and nice family seemingly loses his mind. He begins having strange fantasies, and losing touch with reality. From there, the story goes in a completely different direction, when this man turns out to not only have an active fantasy life, but also commits a horrific murder, and even eats part(s) of his victim, after frying it up, in his kitchen. That's only the tip of the crazy iceberg, as this story is strange from start to finish!!Along the way, we find out that there isn't much you can do with a beeswax festival, that the first half of someone's life can't always predict the second half, and that human parts are apparently best fried up, with a little Worcestershire sauce!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports! The Lions scored 21 points in the fourth quarter on the way to their second straight win after losing five in a row. They wiped out a 14-point deficit with two quick TDs, tying it on a 20-yard interception return by Jeff Okudah. Fields then went 67 yards untouched for a TD to put Chicago back on top 30-24. Cairo Santos missed the extra point. Goff led an eight-play, 91-yard drive in the closing minutes. Williams made it 31-30 when he scored with 2:21 remaining. Fields ran for 147 yards and two scores and threw for two. According to STATS, Chicago became the first team in NFL history to score at least 29 points in three consecutive games and lose all three. The Bears have dropped six of seven overall. Colts 25, Raiders 20 – Matt Ryan, interim coach Saturday rally Colts past Raiders Matt Ryan got his job back as the Colts’ starter under TV analyst-turned-interim coach Jeff Saturday. The veteran quarterback delivered a 35-yard touchdown pass to Parris Campbell to lead Indianapolis to a 25-20 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. The touchdown with 5:07 left came shortly after the 37-year-old quarterback converted a third-and-3 with a 39-yard run to the Raiders’ 36-yard line. His play helped give Saturday his first victory. It also handed the Raiders their third loss in a row and will increase the scrutiny on first-year coach Josh McDaniels. The 2022 football season was played entirely on the road this fall as Viking Stadium was being converted from a grass playing field to artificial turf. Construction on the field didn’t start until August, which made it impossible for the Vikings to play any games at home this season. Niles had four home games scheduled, their game against Buchanan was played at Berrien Springs new Sylvester Stadium. Games against Vicksburg and Dowagiac were played at Steve Upton Field at Dickinson Stadium in St. Joe. And the Vikings homecoming game against Paw Paw was actually played at Falan Field in Paw Paw. But a week after the Vikings were eliminated from the 2022 football playoffs, Niles field is finally complete. Even though there aren’t any upcoming football games for the community to celebrate it’s unveiling. Niles is hosting a community celebration on Thursday, November 17 at 4:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting for the Niles High School Sports and Competition Field at Viking Stadium will be held at 4:30, then the field will remain open for the community to view the new field. The new field is lined for both football and soccer. It’s unknown if the Niles girls soccer team will be opening up the spring season on the new field or not. We do know that the first official football game will be on the opening week of the 2023 season against St. Joseph.
