So in the end the Mark Carney government survived the budget vote. But you have to wonder whether the 140-138 vote in the Commons was what they really wanted. Sure it avoids a messy Christmas season election, but it also avoids what may have been the PM's best chance of turning a minority into a majority. We'll discuss that and what happens now with The Economist's Rob Russo and the Toronto Star's Althia Raj on this Tuesday's Reporter's Notebook. In this episode of The Line Podcast, recorded on July 11, 2025,  your hosts are back together! Matt returns from Europe and Jen gets him caught up. First up: a full debrief on this year's Calgary Stampede. Matt wants to talk breakfast, but Jen wants to talk vibes — and this year, the CPC was a much quieter, more cautious presence than last. Poilievre showed up and got the applause you'd expect from a friendly crowd, but even some Conservatives are starting to quietly admit … Carney's off to a strong start. This episode of The Line Podcast is brought to you by Unsmoke Canada. Canada can be a global leader in reducing the harm caused by smoking, but it requires actionable steps, including giving adult smokers the information they need to choose potentially less harmful alternatives. Learn more at Unsmoke.ca.Next, Matt shares what actually made news in Europe: a bit about Trump, some sad headlines out of Texas, but very little from Canada. The biggest political storyline back home? The NDP is hunting for a new leader, and neither Matt nor Jen can think of anyone likely to win.  This episode of The Line Podcast is also brought to you by Forestry For The Future. Canadian forestry supports 200,000 workers, generates $87 billion in annual revenue, contributes $21 billion annually to our nation's economy, and provides the products we need to build homes and drive economic growth. While trade barriers from the U.S. are siphoning jobs and investment away, Canada's own approval processes and regulations are preventing critical projects that both prevent wildfires and boost our economic self-reliance.We can and should have programs that expand domestic wood use, advance biomass use and pulp market opportunities, and cut red tape and regulatory barriers. The government of Canada has a clear opportunity to stand up for Canadian forestry at a time of growing global uncertainty. We need real action that puts Canadians first — supporting employees and their families, securing stability for our businesses, and protecting the long-term potential of our sector and its people. To learn more, visit ForestryForTheFuture.ca.To wrap up, Matt offers a few unsentimental takeaways from his European trip. No postcard clichés, just a growing unease: even cities with reputations for being gritty are starting to look better — cleaner, safer, more orderly — than some of Canada's big cities. Are we losing ground without realizing it? Would Canadians ever accept it even if we were? This episode is also brought to you by Airbnb. Everyone agrees that Canada needs to take real action to tackle the housing crisis, but only a few people argue that short-term rentals like Airbnb are part of that solution. Countless experts have argued that short term rental regulation is nothing more than a distraction, with the Harvard Business Review recently saying that “Put simply, restricting Airbnb is not going to be an effective tool for solving the housing-affordability problems.” This makes sense when you consider two key statistics: Canada needs 5.8 million homes to reach affordability by 2030, and Airbnb's account for only 0.6% of Canada's overall housing stock. The closer you look the clearer it gets that Canada needs bold action that addresses the entire housing market, not just 0.6% of it. Learn more at Airbnb.ca/closerlook.Oh. And. This is a bit of an aside. But. We discuss why Elizabeth May should not be given a gun. All that, and more, in the latest episode of The Line Podcast. Subscribe at ReadTheLine.ca.

How debilitating is bureaucratic red tape in delaying economic development projects, really? And is Canada's political gridlock is doing more harm than good? Let's take a look at the newly proposed Bill C-5 and talk about what some of its critics, and defenders, are saying. In Episode 163 of The Bill Kelly Podcast, Bill discusses Bill C-5, a piece of legislation aimed at expediting the parliamentary process for major projects in Canada. David Hilderman has a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Electronic Information Systems Engineering from the University of Regina and has worked in the electronics industry since graduation in 1988. David grew up in Saskatchewan, the second oldest in a family of six boys.  Since 2000 he has lived in beautiful Saanichton British Columbia, raising two great kids with his lovely wife. He went to the Victoria area to combine his engineering experience and love of music production to work for TC-Helicon, a company that makes products for performing musicians. He worked there for 19 years, five of which were in the role of Chief Operating Officer. Early 2020 he became aware of the fact that sea level rise rates were not accelerating.  In Victoria, the rate of rise has not changed over the entire record since 1909 and is only 0.75mm/yr.   This began his research in other climate alarmist claims.  Reality is so counter to the narrative and the consequences of acting on the narrative are so detrimental that he felt he needed to do something about it. In 2021 he ran in the federal election against the Green Party incumbent, Elizabeth May, and had the opportunity to debate her on the issue of climate five times. He continues to be active in his community, working to educate people on the benefits of increasing atmospheric CO2. 00:00 Introduction: The Impact of Deception 00:31 Energy Consumption Around the World 04:45 Data Analysis and Methodology 08:07 Climate Change Narratives and Media Influence 10:54 Political Dynamics in Canada 20:09 Personal Journey and Climate Skepticism 37:25 Questioning the Origins of Hydrocarbons 38:14 Introduction to Martin Armstrong's Economic Model 40:13 Martin Armstrong's Predictions and Legal Troubles 41:40 Discussion on US National Debt and Global Economic Concerns 47:24 Climate Change and CO2 Emissions Debate 54:37 Haiti: Culture, Challenges, and Voodoo Beliefs 01:15:34 Concluding Thoughts and Future Plans https://co2coalition.org/teammember/david-hilderman/ https://x.com/david_hilderman 34% of the world's weather stations have experienced 70+ year cooling trends: https://x.com/TomANelson/status/1858837448496754999 Pollock: Solar panels don't make sense above 35 degrees latitude: https://x.com/TomANelson/status/1841626005976318009 ========= AI summaries of all of my podcasts (plus transcripts of recent podcasts): https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summaries About Tom Nelson: https://linktr.ee/tomanelson1 AI summaries of all of my podcasts: https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summaries YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL89cj_OtPeenLkWMmdwcT8Dt0DGMb8RGR X: https://x.com/TomANelson Substack: https://tomn.substack.com/ About Tom: https://tomn.substack.com/about

Welcome to The Alex Pierson Show Podcast! The place where you can catch all the stories and interviews you might've missed when they first aired. On this episode, Alex first starts off focusing in on the crisis that is rising debt and delinquent mortgage payments, which passed over $ 1 billion for the first time in the province's history! Ron helps to break down why he believes this is just the start of a very major problem, and why he belives the Capital Gains Tax will literally only make things worse. Next, in light of Apple announcing it will incorporate ChatGPT and other AI into its IOS Alex sits down with media and tech consultant Mohit Rajhans with ThinkStart.ca. Mohit and Alex explore just what this AI is supposed to improve, and what you might be sacrificing for it...and hint hint...it might be A LOT more than you bargained for. Afterwards, after Green co-leader Elizabeth May read the unredacted NSICOP report and said "She wasn't worried about MPs committing treason" many people are confused as to why she was able to read this before other opposition parties. So we can all learn why, Alex speaks with the Parliamentary Reporter for the National Post, Catherine Lévesque. Catherine breaks down why May was able to read the report first, who else is acquiring security clearance and when the public MIGHT expect some answers. And finally, Alex speaks with a Guelph professor who has been suspended for publically supporting Israel and denouncing Hamas, Paul Finlayson.
