It's the 4th of July, so instead of three match reports we have three American themed interviews. Former Rovers midfielder Jamie Duffy, born in Texas, raised in Tallaght and living in Hollywood, talks the 2006 First Division win, a life-threatening illness, his boy band and appearance on X-Factor. Then, another remarkable story in Cincinnati, Orlando and Nashville where Dylan Connolly, another Dubliner and Rovers supporter, was Ireland's only representative at the Club World Cup in the States this summer with Auckland City. Dylan tells us about life in New Zealand and swapping the Leinster Senior League for games with Bayern Munich, Benfica and Boca Juniors on the world stage. The last segment is Brendan Crowley from 'Sports Books Reviews', a Limerick native who gives his personal take on the sports books he's read and written about in his newsletter all the way from his new home in the U.S. capitol, Washington D.C.

This week we are treated to an in-depth chat with New Zealand All White's Goalkeeper Coach, Paul Gothard, affectionately known as “Goffy”. Paul is originally from Jimbob's home town of Southend-on-sea in the UK where he played as a goalkeeper for Dagenham and Redbridge among other semi-pro outfits. After migrating to New Zealand, Goffy rediscovered his love for the game with Auckland City, representing them in the 2009 Club World Cup. After retiring from playing, he transitioned into coaching and has since built a strong reputation in goalkeeper development, working as both Auckland City and Wellington Pheonix's goalkeeping coach. He joined up with the NZ national team set up, coaching at multiple FIFA U-17 and U-20 World Cups, as well as the senior team's qualifying cycles. Currently, Paul serves as the High Performance Goalkeeper Development Lead for New Zealand Football, where he oversees the long-term development of goalkeepers across all national teams. He also continues to work directly with the All Whites as their goalkeeping coach, and will accompany them to the FIFA World Cup 2026 cycle.#onionbag #onionbagpodcast #allwhites #NZfootball #FIFA #goalkeeper #goalkeeping #aucklandcity #wellingtonphoenix #goffy #paulgothard #FQ #regionalfootball

After being humiliated in their first two FIFA Club World Cup games, Auckland City produced a miracle in Nashville, drawing 1-1 with South American giants Boca Juniors. Sports reporter Jonty Dine spoke to Lisa Owen.
Tuesday's Club World Cup delivered one of the greatest underdog stories in football history! Auckland City's amateur team - featuring teachers, barbers, and students - held Argentine giants Boca Juniors to a stunning 1-1 draw, eliminating Boca from the tournament. Christian Gray's equalizer capped an incredible journey for the New Zealand side after 10-0 and 6-0 defeats. Meanwhile, Benfica shocked Bayern Munich 1-0 with Andreas Schjelderup's goal to top Group C in their first-ever victory over the German champions. Chelsea bounced back from the Nicolas Jackson red card disaster, beating Espérance de Tunis 3-0 with Liam Delap scoring his first goal. Plus, LAFC's heartbreak continued as Wallace Yan's late equalizer gave Flamengo a 1-1 draw.
