Thomas McDonagh was a frustratingly good prospect from the Collyhurst and Moston gym in Manchester and learned his trade under the brilliant coach Brian Hughes.  McDonagh was a one club man, amateur and pro, and he boxed the likes of Anthony Small, Sam Webb, Wayne Alexander, Bradley Pryce and Andrew Face but he admits he didn't fulfil his potential. He was also a stablemate to the likes pop Robin Reid, Gary Lockett, Michael Jennings, Anthony Farnell and Michael Gomez and is known to be one of the funniest character in British boxing. The murder of Suzanne Capper was committed in Greater Manchester, England in December 1992. Sixteen-year-old Suzanne Jane Capper died in Withington Hospital on 18 December 1992, from multiple organ failure arising from 80% burns after being deliberately lit on fire on 14 December. Before her death, Capper related that she had been kidnapped and kept prisoner for seven days at a house in Moston, Manchester, where she was beaten and tortured.Suzanne was taken from the house by car, driven into the countryside, and forced out of the car into a wood at Werneth Low where petrol was poured over her and she was set alight. The torture and murder arose from the "avenging [of] trivial grievances: a sexual insult, infection with pubic lice and the loss of a pink duffel coat." Todays' guest for the podcast is my dear friend, Marcia Moston. She has lived such an amazing life of adventure, from being a hippie and living in a real life teepee to moving to Guatemala and becoming a missionary and eventually making her way to South Carolina. Marcia is a wonderful storyteller  who shares a tale mixed with heartbreak, humor and hope. She was a good Catholic schoolgirl who entered her adult life seeking truth in all the wrong places, even looking to astronomy and palmistry at one point. But she finally surrendered to God when she hit rock bottom. Her testimony is a story of how God has remained faithful throughout all of her life. She's the other of two books based on her life, the most recent one titled, Going South: with the God of Jacob's and My Mistakes. This is an episode you won't want to miss.

This week, Drew and Yergy discuss the horrific torture and murder of Suzanne Capper, which was committed in Greater Manchester, England in December of 1992. Sixteen-year-old Suzanne Jane Capper died in Withington Hospital on December 18th 1992, from multiple organ failure while in a coma arising from 80% burns after she was deliberately set on fire days prior. Before her death, Capper related that she had previously been kidnapped and kept prisoner for seven days at a house in Moston, Manchester, where she was beaten and tortured. Suzanne was taken from the house by car, driven into the countryside and then forced out of the car virtually naked into the woods at Werneth Low where petrol was poured over her and she was set alight. The torture and murder arose from the "avenging of trivial grievances: a sexual insult, infection with pubic lice and the loss of a pink duffel coat." Detectives conducting the inquiry said that "for sheer mindless brutality" the crime ranked alongside the torture inflicted on children by the Moors murderers. The case went to trial in November 1993, but received "comparatively little publicity" as it coincided with the trial of Robert Thompson and Jon Venables for the murder of James Bulger.  On December 17th 1993, Jean Powell, aged 26, her ex-husband Glyn Powell, aged 29, and Bernadette McNeilly, aged 24, were sentenced to life imprisonment for their parts in the murder. Jeffrey Leigh, aged 27, was jailed for twelve years for false imprisonment. Jean Powell's brother Clifford Pook, aged 18, was sentenced to fifteen years in a Young Offenders' Institution for false imprisonment and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm. Anthony Michael Dudson, who was 16 years old at the time of the murder, was also found guilty of murder and sentenced to be detained at Her Majesty's pleasure under section 53(1) of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933. During Suzanne's imprisonment and torture, there were several times in which bystanders could have taken action to save Suzanne's life, but all failed to do so. Suzanne's family claimed ignorance of the direness of her situation, but all had turned Suzanne away when she had come to them for help prior to her death. Unfortunately, bystander apathy mixed with a toxic cocktail of a drug filled mob mentality were Suzanne's undoing, and another young British girl was senselessly lost. This week we chat with CQUni's Forensic Psychology lecturer Associate Professor Stephen Moston. We hear how this British academic cut his teeth in the then new field of forensic psychology with the metropolitan police in England and academia before pulling up roots and heading to Australia to further explore his career. Despite once considering being an astronaut (but he didn't like the pre-employment tests he jokes), Stephen has built an extraordinary reputation in helping the way children are interviewed by police. His research into questioning suspects and eyewitnesses have since moved into the field of sport psychology, looking at ways to question suspected cheats involved in doping. We also hear about his love of teaching and how he loves to 'corrupt' his students into continuing on in forensic psychology. Finally, we hear how dogs could play a role in interviewing eyewitnesses and suspects.

An 'urban clubbing holiday' in which a thousand Britons descended on an Algarve town spiralled into violence after a mass brawl broke out in a bar. Dozens of anti-riot police officers were called in as tourists at the 'Portugal Invasion' festival brawled on the Oura strip in Albufeira, Portugal on Sunday. .....which locals said came after a week of mayhem in the resort. The Iberian Peninsula has been roasting hot this past week and a wildfire that broke out on Saturday night near Doñana National Park, in southern Spain, was still burning on three fronts but authorities BUT improved weather conditions saw the blaze brought under control. Three people suspected of jihadist activity have been arrested in Madrid, the Spanish Interior Ministry said in a release on Wednesday. A woman in Barcelona has been forced to illegally occupy her own apartment after the tenant she had rented it to listed the property without her knowledge on the vacation rental website. Many people associate Spain with siesta. And yet Spaniards have been slow to turn a profit from this habit. Japan, Argentina and Belgium are far ahead on this issue, explains María Estrella Jorro de Inza, owner of Siesta and Go, Spain’s very first business offering customers some down time in between activities. After the disaster at Grenfell Tower the cladding is being checked at buildings across the length and bradth of the UK. Whilst Theresa May is beseiged by this problem Jeremy Corbyn was free to adress the revellers at Glastonbury. Headmasters from 3,000 schools across 14 UK counties sent letters to parents before the general election warning them of the 'dreadful state' of education funding under Tory policies. Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey has resigned from the Church of England after an inquiry found he colluded with senior clergy to protect a paedophile bishop. Former Justice Secretary Liz Truss took the decision to keep a devastating report into the effectiveness of sex offender rehabilitation courses secret. A teenager has been accused of the attempted rape of an 8 year old girl. Officers were called to Nuthurst Park in Moston, Greater Manchester, after reports the girl had been raped and the offender had been chased off by members of the public. The invoice, for Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall to go on a tour to Romania, Italy and Austria this March, is expected to be the most expensive trip taken by a Royal in the past year
