This week on Earth Station Who, the crew trades in the TARDIS for a foggy London streetlamp as we review the Big Finish audio adventure The Paternoster Gang: The Casebook of Paternoster Row—where the monsters are mysterious, the tea is probably poisoned. Someone always knows more than they're saying. Starring the unstoppable trio of Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint, and Strax, this collection of Victorian-era mysteries puts the Paternoster Gang front and center without the Doctor to spoil the investigation. From eerie cases to sharp banter (and the occasional explosive misunderstanding courtesy of Strax), we break down the stories, performances, and whether this audio box set delivers proper gothic chills, clever clues, and classic Big Finish fun. So straighten your cravat, mind the suspicious shadows, and join us as we crack open The Casebook of Paternoster Row to see if the Paternoster Gang still has what it takes to keep Victorian London safe—one bizarre case at a time. 3 Grog Night https://www.youtube.com/@3GrogNight Time Stamp 0:00:00 Show Opening 0:06:02 The Paternoster Gang: The Casebook of Paternoster Row 0:48:50 Show Close If you'd like to leave feedback or a comment, feel free to email us at feedback@earthstationwho.com DoctorWho #BigFinish #PaternosterGang #CasebookOfPaternosterRow #AudioDrama #DoctorWhoPodcast #EarthStationWho #Whovian #DoctorWhoAudio #BigFinishProductions Special Guest: Dave Chapman.

“But, at night to Mohammed, he confessed his doubts: It will not be as we dream, when those of us who survive finally get there. Corrupt politicians have already ensconced themselves. They are waiting for us—waiting for us not as brothers but as our masters. They will use us." – As told to John Berger, "Two Recumbent Male Figures Wrestling on a Sidewalk" "For a moment, he actually feels he can't go on, can't function anymore, living two lives with enough stress for ten but less than enough sleep for one." – Doug Moench, BATMAN #484 The United States is a broken empire. It just doesn't know it yet. The 1990s marked the full bloom of the international counterrevolution, whose mission to destroy the gains of the 20th century had just seen its first major victory in the destruction of the USSR. With no systemic power to oppose it, capitalism molted the old skin of social democracy, unveiling its truest form to hollow fanfare and a dead-eyed audience. Bereft of an external enemy worth organizing against, unsatisfied with the empty calories of the video game war, confronted with the grim realities of vaunted liberal democratic values, Americans tried to make sense of life at the end of history. Whose triumph was this? Even superhero fans found themselves yearning for—but never quite finding—meaning in heroes whose integral, inflated violence now seemed both superfluous and insufficient to the moment. Despite having "won" the Cold War, maybe what American audiences needed to see was one more domino fall. ---------- Special thanks to our Lovable Sidekicks: Better Possible Futures, Kourtney Smith, Walt Llewellyn, Kafka, The Black Casebook's Very Own Nightwing, JD Lunt, Ambird, Mr. Pig from the Intervention, Travis Armstrong, Chris Marks, Wirecats, Sheeee-itttt, VoidTek, Mars Hottentot, Richard Bell, TakoTuesday, Joseph, and Knife Money ---------- Email: blackcasebookpod@gmail.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/BlackCasebook Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/blackcasebook.bsky.social Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/blackcasebookpod/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/blackcasebook/posts ---------- Email: collectiveactioncomics@gmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/collectiveactioncomics Twitter: https://twitter.com/CAComixPod Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/cacomixpod.bsky.social Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/collectiveactioncomics

Harry Bartell worked all over the dial during the Golden Age of Radio, both as an actor in shows like Gunsmoke, Escape, and Johnny Dollar and as an announcer for The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Casebook of Gregory Hood. We'll celebrate his November 29th birthday with some of his work. First, he's on a voyage where a fellow passenger is a deadly snake in "A Shipment of Mute Fate" from Escape (originally aired on CBS on March 28, 1948). Then, he plays Frank Smith, the new partner for Sgt. Friday on "The Big Safe" from Dragnet (originally aired on NBC on May 1, 1952). Next, he's Archie Goodwin to Sydney Greenstreet's Nero Wolfe in two mysteries: "The Case of the Midnight Ride" (originally aired on NBC on March 16, 1951) and "The Case of the Tell-Tale Ribbon" (originally aired on NBC on March 30, 1951). Finally, he plays Lieutenant Seiberts opposite Raymond Chandler in "Shavetail," a western drama from Fort Laramie (originally aired on CBS on March 3, 1956).

Another Marketing Disaster. With school back in session, we're visiting the faculty lounge at Madison High with three cast members from Our Miss Brooks in their roles as radio detectives. Jeff Chandler leaves bashful biology teacher Mr. Boynton behind to travel to the Big Easy as Michael Shayne in "The Case of the Model Murder." Plus, we'll hear all three alongside Eve Arden in an episode of Our Miss Brooks (originally aired on CBS on February 20, 1949).
