Josette Curtis, a Pennsylvania native, graduated with merit from the US Naval Academy in 2001 with a bachelor of science in chemistry and a minor in Spanish. Upon completion of flight training in Pensacola, FL, she received her Naval Flight Officer wings in October 2002 and reported to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA for training in the (now retired) EA-6B Prowler. Her flying career spanned 12 years and included two deployments to the Western Pacific onboard USS Abraham Lincoln with the LANCERS of VAQ-131, logging over 1000 flight hours and 200 carrier arrested landings. She completed her shore tour at the Electronic Attack Weapons School, where she received the inaugural Golden Griffin award for outstanding tactics instructor. Josette is not only a Navy veteran, she's also a Navy spouse - her husband Jack recently retired from the Navy following a successful command tour with the VAQ-130 Zappers, where he led them through a 7-month deployment onboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower that included a record-setting 206 consecutive days at sea. Jack, Josette, and their family reside in Anacortes, WA.For More Information please visit US Navy Academy: https://www.usna.edu/About/index.phpUnited States Military Academy at West Point: https://www.westpoint.edu/admissionsUS Air Force Academy: https://www.academyadmissions.com/
The military is a lot of things to a lot of people. But most probably don't think of it as the place to achieve your dreams. But it is exactly that for today's troop. Today we salute Lieutenant J.G. Thomas Logan of the United States Navy. Lieutenant Logan is a native of Kenmore, Washington and he always knew that he wanted to fly airplanes. He was majoring in Aviation Flight at college when he first spoke to a recruiter for the Navy. "It felt like a great fit for me, and it made too much sense for me to do it." Logan has been in the Navy for 4 years now, and he is living that dream. Lieutenant Logan serves with the "Screaming Eagles" Maritime Patrol Squadron VP-1 out of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. VP-1 is a high-tech reconnaissance squadron tasked with monitoring the world's oceans from above, in the state-of-the-art P-8A Poseidon aircraft. "We do a lot with what is essentially an airliner that a lot of people can't even imagine." Logan says, "We took an airplane that was originally designed to be a commercial airliner and made it into a great platform for the Navy." Logan didn't just breeze through the training process. Even for pilots, military training starts the same way as it does for everyone else. "I got hurt early on in flight school and I almost got kicked out of the program" he says, "I made it through, and the moment they pinned the wings on me was the biggest accomplishment in life." This Naval Aviator is living his dream and protecting our forces and our nation, and for this reason we salute Lieutenant J.G. Thomas Logan.
Audio has just been released of a 2017 incident where an obscene skywriting appeared in the air over Okanogan County, Washington. U.S. Navy officials had admitted that an aircraft from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island was involved. It sparked nationwide attention. Countless memes were created and there are even shot glasses commemorating the event.

While the Navy didn't find it funny, it seemed almost everyone found the drawing in the sky near Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, hilarious. Well almost everyone. Podcast Host, Juvenile Humor Expert and Navy Veteran, Phil Briggs attempts to have a meaningful discussion with Social Media Director, Abby Hartley, about significance of the pilot's ode to "male military members".
