On October 3, 1994, 12-year-old Josette Wright vanished from Carmel, New York. Months later, hunters discovered her remains. She had been murdered.Local drug dealers, Anthony DiPippo and Andrew Krivak, were arrested and charged with Josette's rape and murder. They were first convicted in 1997. Boîtes en plastique et émancipation féminine en milieu capitaliste On ne pensait pas associer un jour boîtes en plastique et révolution. Et pourtant : à partir des années 1960, des milliers de Françaises sont sorties du carcan du foyer en devenant représentantes de l'enseigne américaine Tupperware, connue pour ses fameuses « réunions », jusqu'à sa mise en faillite toute récente annoncé à l'automne 2024.Mais comment vendre des petites boîtes en plastique à des gens qui n'en ont pas besoin ? Josette a 82 ans. Josiane, 74. La première vit entre Paris et le plateau lunaire de l'Aubrac, l'autre en pleine campagne picarde. Elles ne se connaissent pas, mais leur histoire est la même : encore très jeunes filles, elles ont conquis leur liberté et amassé un sacré petit pactole en vendant des Tupperware à domicile.Tupperware, c'est la splendeur des arts ménagers sauce après-guerre : simplicité, hygiène, couleurs, pétrole. Mais c'est surtout un système. La marque, lancée en 1946 aux États-Unis par le chimiste Earl Tupper, a révolutionné le monde du commerce en créant un réseau planétaire de vendeuses à domicile. Des femmes qui organisaient chez d'autres femmes des démonstrations dans l'espoir de remplir leur carnets de commandes certes, mais surtout de recruter de nouvelles vendeuses qui leur verseront ensuite un pourcentage sur chacune de leurs recettes.En fait, un modèle de vente sans salariés ni boutiques, redoutablement lucratif pour ses créateurs, auquel des générations entières ont consacré leur vie pour finir, la plupart du temps, sans vraie protection sociale ni retraite. Un monde parallèle néolibéral avec ses rituels et son jargon, dans lequel certaines femmes comme Josiane et Josette ont trouvé une forme d'émancipation… sans jamais être tout à fait dupes du cynisme de cette exploitation.Tupperware, c'est donc l'enfant mutant du féminisme et du capitalisme : selon le point de vue, c'est un rêve ou un cauchemar. Pour Josette et Josiane, c'était les deux. Et après une carrière de plus de 40 ans, elles n'ont pas peur de raconter pourquoi. Josette Norris Andrews joins the show after setting an incredible new 2025 world standard in the 5,000m at the BU Last Chance meet, clocking a speedy 14:44.80. (Josette's personal best in the 5,000m is an even-faster 14:43.36.)Josette is healthy and feeling like herself again, and it showed with a massive personal best at the Millrose Games in February when she ran a PR of 8:29.77 in the 3,000m.Josette competed for Team USA in both the 2022 and 2024 World Indoor Championships. She was also a member of the 2023 World Indoor team in the 3,000m, but unfortunately injured herself shortly after, which took her out for most of the spring 2024 season.In her two appearances of that year she came in second at the USATF Indoor Champs with a 3,000m time of 9:03.10; she then competed in the Olympic Trials in the 5,000m and came in 11th with a time of 15:26.25.Josette, who is a member of the On Athletics Club out of Boulder Colorado, has additional PRs of 3:59 in the 1,500m and 4:20 in the mile. Collegiately, Josette competed for UNC and Georgetown; one of her many highlights includes a 2019 fourth place finish in the 5,000m in the Division 1 Outdoor Championships.In today's conversation, Josette takes me through her recent improvements as a professional runner, things she's learning, her time at the OAC, her goals for the future, her training routines, and much more!This one is packed full of insights from one of the best pro-runners in the country at the moment. We talk about the energy and atmosphere of the Millrose Games, but then in addition to that, we reflect on Josette's 2024 season, which wasn't perfect. She dealt with a foot injury, which sidelined her throughout spring and forced her to open up her season at the Olympic Trials, which wasn't easy. She ended up finishing 11th in the 5K, did a couple of races after that, but then really took time to heal in the fall.
