This week we’ve landed in the docklands of London to catch the baby-faced assassin and CEO of NY Collective, Nicole Yershon, who ignites fires of change consulting huge brands like Ford, British Airways and Pizza Hut. Heralded by The Drum as one of the 25 most influential women in the British digital industry over the last 25 years, she talks to us about her early career and how she went from selling blouses from a stall on Petticoat Lane to working with industry legend Dave Trott at GGT. But that’s not all. She also dives into her time at Ogilvy & Mather and a rather ingenious way of generating R&D budget for their London Digital Innovation Lab that involved pimping out Rory Sutherland, her Fearless Manifesto, the work of The NY Collective, her best-selling Amazon book Rough Diamond and a whole lot more. ///// Follow Nicole on LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicoleyershon/) . Do you think disruptively? In this episode we spoke with self-described "Rough Diamond", Nicole Yershon about what it means to think like a disruptor and how disruption can be turned into an advantage.Nicole is not new to disruption. When Nicole joined Ogilvy in 2000 she was given the simple brief of “bringing the agency into the 21st century”.She achieved this by building relationships with third party suppliers and embracing new technologies that saw Ogilvy digitise some 10,000 tapes of adverts dating back to the 1950s. Nicole later went on to be the founding partner of Ogilvy's London Digital Innovation Lab – the dedicated Innovation unit of Ogilvy & Mather Group where she worked with brands such as Amex, IBM, BP, Selfridges, Unilever, BA and Wetherspoons. She's also famous for her “black book” of leading suppliers. In 2016 she founded the NY Collective with a mind to remove the traditionally opaque practices of consulting and marketing agencies. We spoke about topics such as:• Turning disruption into an advantage• Why we need disruptors in any business• The prayers, players and stayers• The Ogilvy Lab Rats and Lab days• Measuring the impact of disruption• Can disruptors be made or are they born?• How a “black book” of suppliers became a community• 3 Things for next week • Be curious• Get outside your comfort zone• Be authenticYour Host: Actionable Futurist® Andrew GrillFor more on Andrew - what he speaks about and replays of recent talks, please visit ActionableFuturist.com follow @AndrewGrill on Twitter or @andrew.grill on Instagram.

On today's episode of The Melting Pot we talk to Nicole Yershon, founder and CEO of the NY Collective, a leverage-model business that was created to disrupt the traditional practices of consulting and marketing agencies, and to get to the heart of a business' problem, whether operational or strategic, as quickly as possible. Nicole is the original rough diamond: she wasn't a yes-girl, she asked the awkward questions, she queried the processes and she side-stepped authority and the chain of command to get things done. Her measure of success wasn't financial, it was in her ability to move people from an analogue world to a digital world. On today's podcast: Why being disruptive isn't a bad thing Why you can't affect change without the right people How she was so successful at Gold Greenlees and Trott The Fearless Breakfast (and the problem with fear) How she wrote her book What's in her Fearless Manifesto Links: Dave Trott Rough Diamond Day One

"Good people know good people" this quote is from Nicole Yershon / Founder NY Collective & LabForHire&Co on this week's Shiny New Object Podcast. Nicole is without doubt the most experienced innovation person in this town or any other. Her monster stint at Ogilvy defined what the 'Innovation' role was at an agency and what it could achieve. Since moving on from ad land she's set up four businesses, written an Amazon #1 best seller. Despite this success she's hell bent on learning all she can about new tech that intrigues her. I stopped taking notes during this podcast because I got so caught up in what was at times an emotional discussion. Nicole genuinely makes our industry a better place for brands, their agencies and the young people who want to be part of its future.

As the former founding director the Ogilvy Labs, Nicole Yershon set new precedents in how companies connect with connect with culture. Equal parts brain and brawn, the multiple Cannes Gold Lion award winner has been referred to as "an irresistible force against immovable objects," a metaphor that simply translates into knowing how to get sh*t done. She is also now the author of Rough Diamond, a collection of personal philosophies and experiences that illuminate the innovator's path to success. On her second appearance on Innovation Crush, Nicole breaks down many of the methods to her madness, the personal hardships she's faced, and how she turned those hardships into even greater potential in her business. Today on the show, I'm joined by Nicole Yershon, who knows a thing or two about disruption. Nicole is a maverick, inspiration and the original rough diamond. She's a consultant, speaker, judge, mentor and connector. Nicole works on the front line of innovation - bringing organisations kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. In that sense she properly defines disruption. Her new book is Rough Diamond: Turning Disruption Into Advantage in Business and Life. According to Nicole, in life you are most likely to regret that you didn’t do more of what you love. Her book puts you on notice. Nicole says you have it within your power to do more and be more, and she's going to give you the tools to start. It's all about being the statistical anomaly - the Rough Diamond - who shines bright, even if unpolished, and savors each day for the opportunity it presents to innovate, connect and disrupt the status quo. Here's my conversation with Nicole Yershon, author of Rough Diamond, in episode 278 of Informed Choice Radio.
The team has been celebrating the successful launch of the inaugural Venturefest South, which took place on Thursday 9 March, with a hugely successful one-day event that saw over 500 innovators, entrepreneurs and investors descend upon the magnificent Winchester Guildhall. The event aimed to bring together these three ‘tribes’ to demonstrate tech innovations, pitch for funding and discuss ideas collaboratively to shape business growth in the region. Speakers from Uber, Innovate UK and Innovation People delivered keynotes, which inspired attendees with stories of disruptive business models and building the right team for their businesses. Over the course of the day, 34 innovators showcased their products and services, ranging from a smart power socket to allow elderly people to live independently for longer, to a game that teaches children about online safety, to a start-up that improved digital connectivity in countries and communities without the internet. In part one of the special two part Venturefest South series, Luke Thomas spoke to the event's three keynote speakers Fred Jones of Uber, one of the founders of Olgilvy Labs, Nicole Yershon and Kevin Baughn of Innovate UK.
