On this episode of The Neil Haley Show, Neil The Media Giant Haley sits down with the creative team behind "Kevin's Series of Unfortunate Events," the buzzy comedy episode making its world premiere at the 2026 Tribeca Festival. Joining Neil are director and co-creator Rex Glensy, writer and co-creator Asad Moghal, and actor Jake Watkins, who stars as the hopelessly optimistic Kevin."Kevin's Series of Unfortunate Events" is episode four of Patterns, an ambitious eight-episode comedy anthology series co-created by Glensy and Moghal. The concept is unique: every episode stands alone as its own self-contained story, but all eight connect into one shared universe. A minor character in one episode might be the lead in another, so viewers can enjoy a single episode on its own or watch the full series for the complete picture. The episodes span wildly different comedic styles, from traditional sitcom to slapstick to a full original musical, all unified by what the creators call "universal camp," an over-the-top-yet-grounded tone in the tradition of Monty Python and Absolutely Fabulous.In this episode, Kevin braves a relentless string of disastrous dates, convinced that persistence will eventually lead to love. Jake Watkins shares how he first auditioned for the role of Kevin back in 2020, why the character's hope and tendency to see the best in people mirror his own personality, and how Asad Moghal's writing made the role click. Moghal reveals that the dating disasters are drawn from his own real-life dating history, calling the series his own form of therapy, including the date who turned out to be fifty years older than his profile photo. Rex Glensy explains his directing philosophy: comedy was always the line, and the moment a scene stopped being funny and turned threatening, that was a story for another show. Neil even opens up about his own post-divorce dating war stories, proving the episode's themes hit home far beyond any one community.The conversation also explores the rest of Kevin's journey through the Patterns universe. Watkins appears in three of the eight episodes, including episode six, "Back to School," and the season finale, episode eight, a full musical featuring all original songs and Watkins doing his own vocals, structured as a comedic singing treasure hunt with Kevin and his frenemy Foster.The team discusses the thrill of being selected for Tribeca, one of the top film festivals in the world, where only a small number of shows make the TV section out of thousands of submissions. "Kevin's Series of Unfortunate Events" has its red-carpet world premiere in a primetime slot, with screenings on June 7, June 8, and June 14 in New York City, and Q&A sessions at every screening. The second screening sold out so quickly that the festival added a third. I'm bringing back some treasures from the Travel Diaries archive, while I take a little time off on maternity leave. And this one has to be one of the best - a name synonymous with travel, Dame Joanna Lumley. Joanna's appetite for adventure was deeply engrained from childhood. Nick and Angela welcome one of their favourite comics to Dish HQ. Broadcaster, comedian, writer and conductor Sue Perkins was born in South London. A Cambridge University graduate, Sue's journey into comedy began when she joined the prestigious Footlights, where she met her friend Mel Giedroyc. The duo quickly made a name for themselves, hosting Channel 4's Late Lunch and Light Lunch in the nineties, while also writing for the legendary French & Saunders and, later, Absolutely Fabulous in 2003. Her biggest TV job to date came in 2010, when she and Mel cohosted The Great British Bake Off for seven wildly successful series. Outside of television, Sue's broadcasting credentials include hosting Britain's best-loved radio comedy Just A Minute on BBC Radio 4. Snyder kicks things off, as he discusses the roots of Absolute DC, events as the thing before the thing, the environment Absolute grew in, and the power of jumping on points, before Thompson and Aaron join to talk about taking on this type of project, the idea of competition, collaboration, figuring out how varying pieces fit, the "big" of it all, their favorite art so far, the most challenging part, trying to make something sustainable, and more.

We're back from the North American Hill Sheep Show in Escanaba, Michigan.  This inaugural event showcased some British Hill Breed Sheep and some not-quite-Hill Breed Sheep, of course, but there was more to see, hear and smell.  Lovely vendor booths with soft woolens and fragrant soaps in abundance, sheepdog trials with panting puppies, food trucks (with some mighty fine brisket, thank you sir), and ice cream that is famous across all of the “M” roads.And then, there were the Brits.  The judges (and families) arrived in good spirits and raring to go, and the whole things was a true education in all things Sheepish. In addition to sheep, they do grow some Absolutely Fabulous people on those little islands, we must say.  Some were English, some Welsh, some Scottish and some Irish, but all delightful.  And good sports, to boot.  They will be sorely missed – at least until next spring (we hope).  Sincere thanks to all from the Backyard Green Films crew.  Our lives are better for having met you.Links:https://www.nahillsheepshow.com/ Support the show

Helen Lederer is a writer, actress and comedian.
