Today's episode focuses on an everyday accessible solution that provides the GIFT of health and wellness services to support to those who need it. This is something that can be integrated into any Workplace Wellness Program and shared with our family, friends and communities. Nikki Williams is a repeat entrepreneur, marketer and health and wellness advocate who has recently launched Mentwell; a digital gift card for health and wellness services where the receiver gets to choose how they redeem, at any service provider, Australia-wide. This means GPs, dentists, psychologists, all Allied Health, all alternative and complementary therapies, gyms, yoga and pilates studios, wellness centres, retreats and more. It's evident that Nikki has a unique ability to use her life experiences as a way of fuelling her passion when it comes to her work life. First, music was a coping mechanism to deal with a challenging family situation; so she became a music manager and PR professional. Then she dove head first into hospitality as a job, but realised she wanted to help hospitality owners and operators, so she started a successful digital marketing agency for this sector. Then wellness became important during a particularly difficult time during Covid, so she created a kids yoga mat company and started building Mentwell. Now Nikki is on a mission to make wellness the 3.0 of gifting. We've had material gifts like flowers and chocolates, then we moved to experience based gifting like hot air balloon rides, and now gifting wellness allows one another to potentially change the lives of those around us. Just 22 weeks after launching Mentwell, Nikki and her team have $5.8m in sales revenue secured for 2024 and are raising $1.5m through a Birchal crowdfunding campaign in May, 2024. Nikki dreams of being able to be a philanthropist as a full time job, helping to increase the global health and wellness of our communities, in particular those who are less fortunate or disadvantaged. Nikki has continuously used her intuition and curiosity to create businesses and she's excited to share her journey with Mentwell so far with our community. During our dynamic conversation, we dive into: The significant changes taking place in the health and wellbeing space The power of gifting Mentwell, Australia's FIRST Health and Wellness Gift Card What choosing to align with Mentwell could mean for your business How embracing discipline rather than motivation can be transformational in each of our lives And so much more. This is an interview with Nikki Williams, a woman who lost her amazing mum Valerie and dad Hefin to Covid 19 within 11 days of each other in early 2020. Nikki was then diagnosed with incurable, secondary breast cancer. With great resilience, Nikki recounts the lovely whirlwind romance her parents enjoyed, how they loved to dance, her Welsh dad's love of singing, their love of life and family, and their generosity to the many children they fostered, including Sarah who they adopted, and the big role they played in the community helping others. Despite experiencing a ‘living hell' in losing her parents who were the centre of her world, battling guilt and post-traumatic stress disorder, Nikki is choosing to live as her parents did, emulating love and helping people in need in the Covid-19 bereaved and cancer communities. Her message is: "Be kind and love. My parents didn't have two pennies to rub together but they had each other, and us, the family."Created, produced, and hosted by Karen Rice, the Stolen Goodbyes podcast won gold in the fiercely competitive Best Lockdown category of the British Podcast Award 2021.Stolen Goodbyes is described as: "outstanding ethical and trauma-informed journalism. I love the scene in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation where Chevy Chase is in the attic and he steps on board after board that hits him in the face. I used to almost pee my pants over that part. This music video for Blame It On the Mistletoe reminds me of the sentimental scene that follows the slap-happy board face-smacking scene. Clark found old family movies and he's reminiscing. Colleen was purposeful in having the video have that feel as well as a nostalgic timeless feel to the song. Colleen used her contacts during the pandemic to get this video created. She remembered asking a bandmate and his wife to do a kissing scene since you know, no actors during the pandemic were going to do a kissing scene, LOL!! Colleen shared about the venue, The Standard, in which the video was recorded. Colleen has performed there many times and met a lot of stars throughout her singing career. She had her friend, Nikki Williams, sing back up on this song. Nikki has some pretty impressive chops and is the go-to in Nashville for songwriting. Colleen gave the inside scoop as to how she and Nikki became friends. Nikki was all too happy to back up Colleen. I hope you all check it out but I don't hope for you to get it stuck in your head for a week, like I did! I "blame it on the mistletoe...." This is on my personal Christmas playlist and will stay there for all future Christmases. Full Show Notes

Nikki is a bi-racial woman, and she joined me on the show to talk about her identity as bi-racial being the inspiration for her book, "on which side of the fence do I fall?" We had the pleasure of interviewing Exit 216 over Zoom video! Exit 216, the duo comprised of hit songwriter Steven Battey ("One Number Away" by Luke Combs, “Sugar” by Flo Rida, “Buzzin” by Mann) and Cole Burkett, has teamed up with songwriter and artist Nikki Williams on their new single, “Robbery". Produced by David Mescone and co-written by Steven Battey, Nikki Williams, and David Mescone, “Robbery” is about carrying the unique and unmistakable style of confidence. Williams, Battey, and Burkett sing of entering and commanding a room and being entirely unapologetic. Make heads turn, let them stare, and don't be sorry for it. Exit 216 and Williams want to spark inspiration for others to approach life in the same way. Exit 216's journey began in January 2020 when Battey was seeking a duo partner and was introduced to Cole Burkett. Battey had the idea of forming a duo that could incorporate and deliver a natural country soul sound without straying away from what country music listeners gravitate towards. After a few songwriting sessions together, the strength of the music was undeniable. Together, Battey and Burkett formed Exit 216 (a reference to the exit home to Nashville International Airport). Since their formation, the two have been writing and recording music that was set to be released in early 2020, but like so many other artists, due to the spread of COVID-19, release plans were halted. It wasn't until Battey co-wrote “Brother,” and the two came together to record the track, that they felt compelled to release the new song to enforce positivity, encourage others, and stimulate change. While Steven was making his way in Music City, Cole Burkett was a high school student residing in Smyrna, Tenn. Burkett had an exceptional, raw musical talent for his age. Still, his sights were set on playing college baseball and continuing his education. The future of these two collaborating would seem highly unlikely. Burkett graduated high school in 2017 and turned down a baseball scholarship to put his energy into songwriting. By the time he was 19, he already had a robust catalog of songs and began to garner the attention that would lead him to work with some of Nashville's top writers and producers. Burkett started to earn a name for himself for the gift he had, not only as a natural songwriter but as a premier vocalist and player. Nikki shares the story of her ancestor, thoroughbred racehorse trainer of Lecomte, Hark West, who in 1854 defeated Lexington in New Orleans; breaking the 1870 brick wall by finding ancestor Zachariah Harris who joined the Union Army as a United States Colored Troop (USCT) soldier at Camp Nelson, Kentucky and was awarded Jefferson Davis' property for his service but the land was taken back by the United States government; enriching the American narrative by sharing unknown stories; using DNA testing to prove descent from American Revolutionary War patriot Edward Barrett through ancestor Ellen who was enslaved on the O'Kelley plantation in Mississippi and Louisiana and bore children for her slave owner; discovering the origin of the O'Kelley name is not Irish, as was celebrated by white descendants. In the next episode, Part 2, hear what happens when the two sides of the O'Kelley family meet and Nikki's experience as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Well, we are back sooner than expected. That's because Nikki Williams, the focus of our documentary Priced Out (2017) and our first film NorthEast Passage (2002) has returned to Portland. If you saw Priced Out the documentary, you know that Nikki moved to Dallas, Texas (spoiler alert) at the end of the film is a quest to find a "healthy black community." What she found there is the discussion we had with her in EP 15? What has changed since then. She is joined, this time, by her daughter Bri, also featured in both films. Get ready for a real treat as Nikki has lost none of her no-nonsense, fool-slapping straight talk about race, class, Red State racism and trifling Portlanders. Seventeen years ago, Cornelius Swart released a documentary depicting the early stages of gentrification in the Albina community. Long-time residents of the community Bri Williams and her mother Nikki Williams were subjects in the film. Swart’s documentary “Priced Out” revisits Bri Williams and the community to see how gentrification has grown and evolved. “Priced Out” is showing Tuesday night on OPB TV. Today we listen back to a conversation with Williams and Swart.
In this episode the guys have a special guest to talk about homeschooling. Nikki Williams shares about her past experiences with growing up homeschooled and now as a parent that homeschools. She talks about the joys and struggles with trying to educate her children. As with anything there is not a one size fits all when it comes to education.
May 2019 - Tim Roberts leads us through times of prayer with Wellspring-wide updates and interviews with John and Jodie Laing, David Dodwell, Stephanie Embree, Nathan Jones, Nikki Williams, and Dan Harrison.
Today is the first part in a new series called LEFT OUT of Priced Out. We are going to cover a lot of issues, points of view, and stories that were not included in our 2017 documentary on gentrification Priced Out. In Episode 13, we are going to roll back, beyond Priced Out, to our first film, the 2002 gentrification documentary, NorthEast Passage: The Inner City and the American Dream. In that film, we watched Nikki Williams work with her neighbors and police to close down the drug houses on her block. But the film never asks the people in the “drug houses” what their view was. Today we hope to correct that with a truly fascinating talk with Rahsaan Muhamaad, a man who grew up in the black neighborhoods of Portland during the 1980s. He knew of Nikki and he knew the “trap houses” on her block because he was running drugs at the time. He describes the experiences of being in a “gang” in Portland before California gangsters started to move into town. https://www.pricedoutmovie.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/priced-out-podcast/support
It’s been three years since Nikki Williams wrapped up her last interview for the documentary Priced Out. At that time, she had just moved to Dallas, Texas. She was fed up with Portland, Oregon, and what she called its “color blind“ and “passive-aggressive” racism. She was emotionally devastated by how her black community had been “obliterated” by gentrification. She sold her house and moved to Dallas in search of a new black community. She wanted to live in a neighborhood where people looked like her, where people would treat her daughter and grandson with respect and dignity. So, what’s happened since then? Did she find a healthy black community? Did she become a gentrifier? What are the racial dynamics in Dallas like? Are they any better?
