Producer/Director - Jeremy McCarter, Sound Designer - Misha Fiksel Making its World Premiere at the venerable Tribeca Festival and featured on Apple Podcasts, MakeBelieve's revelatory new take on Shakespeare's iconic tragedy drops you inside the fractured mind of the prince.  Produced and directed by Jeremy McCarter and with breathtaking binaural sound design by Tony-Award winner Mikhail "Misha" Fiksel, this is Hamlet as you've never heard it before. JEREMY McCARTER Jeremy is the founder and executive producer of Make-Believe Association, a nonprofit audio production company. Prior to Hamlet, he co-created, co-wrote, and executive produced Lake Song, the acclaimed audio-drama series that was an Official Selection of the Tribeca Festival, a Webby Award nominee, and the winner of three Signal Awards. He also co-wrote (with Natalie Moore) and executive-produced City on Fire: Chicago Race Riot 1919, an audio docudrama about the summer that ravaged and remade the city. It was co-produced by Make-Believe Association and WBEZ, and won the Headliner Award for Best in Show for radio broadcasts in 2019. Prior to founding Make-Believe, he spent five years on the artistic staff of the Public Theater in New York, where he created and ran the Public Forum series. These performances and conversations featured many of America's leading actors, writers, activists, and community leaders, exploring the intersection of arts and society. MISHA FIKSEL Initially a theatrical artist, Fiksel pursued his curiosity and appreciation of the screen, both as a composer and a sound designer. He has scored several independent feature films, including “Glitch” and “The Wise Kids” as well several shorts such as “Alien Queens”, “Both/And” and “The Learning Curve” (a short film inspired by an acclaimed immersive theatrical production exploring the high school experience). Misha has worked on several trailers and promotional videos for various corporate and non-for-profit clients and expanding on his collaboration with Albany Park Theatre Project, he worked with documentary director Dan Andries, scoring several film adaptions of APTP's stage plays, including “Feast” which received the 2018 Emmy (Midwest) for Direction.   The Credits Listen to MakeBelieve's Hamlet here Subscribe to The Rough Cut podcast and never miss an episode Visit The Rough Cut on YouTube

The immense difficulties the family faced introducing treatment choices that reflected their own understanding of health and wellbeing prompted him to set up Yes to Life in 2004 to help others in similar situations, and to advocate on behalf of patients for what is now called Integrative Oncology. This year's forum explores transformation through the intersections of integrative cancer care with consciousness and healing arts, featuring distinguished speakers and practitioners from diverse backgrounds. The day included engaging presentations on patient advocacy, expressive arts, and innovative approaches to cancer care. Mark Renneker, MD Mark is assistant clinical professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Renneker has developed a San Francisco-based private medical consultative practice which, since 1988, has provided intensive research and advocacy services to hundreds of patients, family members, and other healthcare providers. About half of the cases he works with are cancer-related, most often dealing with high-risk, recurrent, and metastatic disease. The general approach he takes in his practice is to try to put the patient (and family) in charge of their overall case (and health) by learning to be in charge of their case with him (such as patient-directed consultations). To accomplish this necessitates, from the outset of the work, his going to where they are, meaning that he needs to do everything possible to understand their feelings, fears, confusion, frustrations, hopes, and desires, as well as their physical symptoms and suffering; he needs to take up their side in dealing with the disease, their doctors and the healthcare system—his alliance, his bond, is to them, less so the profession. He finds that doing this work by phone actually facilitates empowerment and intimacy—their being at home, rather than in a doctor's office, using such a familiar communication medium as the telephone, which many of them use professionally and with great authority. I caught up with my guest today, Pascal Lamy, on the sidelines of the World Trade Organization's Public Forum. Pascal Lamy is a former Director-General of the WTO and the current Vice Chair of the Paris Peace Forum. He has a reputation as a big thinker, particularly on geopolitical matters. In our conversation, we discussed some of the contours of the deepening rivalry between China and the United States on trade issues. There is an emerging trend in the geopolitics of "decoupling," which is the idea that the world may be split into two trading blocs: one led by China and the other by the United States. I kick off by asking Pascal Lamy if he believes that decoupling is inevitable at this point. We then discuss the roots, causes, and impacts of trade rivalries between the US and China, as well as the role of the European Union and how the rest of the world — that is, countries outside the US, China, and Europe — can influence debates around international trade.

Today's episode was recorded live at the World Trade Organization's headquarters in Geneva. The live taping coincided with the WTO's "Public Forum," a week-long gathering of civil society at the WTO's headquarters. It's a major event, with around 5,000 people registered from around the world, attending a series of meetings, workshops, speeches, panel discussions, and, of course, our live Global Dispatches taping. This episode features two guests. First up is the WTO's chief economist, Ralph Ossa, who discusses his research on the global implications of widening trade disputes between major powers, such as the United States and China. I'm then joined by Anabel Gonzalez, the Vice President for Countries at the Inter-American Development Bank and a former Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organization, who offers her ideas on how trade may be harnessed to promote global equality and prosperity.

WTO: Between Fragmentation and Globalisation

Recorded live from the WTO Public Forum 2023 Panellists:  Angela Ellard, WTO Deputy Director-General   Jennifer Hillman, Professor, IIEL at Georgetown Law; Co-Director of The Center on Inclusive Trade and Development, Georgetown Law   Stormy-Annika Mildner, Executive Director, Aspen Institute Germany   Moderator:      Rem Korteweg, Senior Research Fellow, Clingendael Institute   This podcast episode was recorded on 13 September 2023. The 2023 edition of the AIG Global Trade Series explores the extent and impact of regionalisation on the global trade landscape. This special episode of the GTS was recorded at the headquarters of global trade – the WTO in Geneva - during its annual Public Forum in September. With the theme ‘It's Time For Action', the 2023 WTO Public Forum brought delegates and trade experts together to assess the state of trade multilateralism. Many of these discussions focused on how trade can contribute to tackling climate change and promoting sustainability. A new sense of urgency was palpable this year. The 2023 WTO Global Trade Report, launched during the Public Forum, also raised concerns about the regionalisation or even fragmentation of the trade landscape. Protectionist tendencies remain strong and proliferating subsidies are posing a challenge to multilateral rulemaking. At the same time, in a context of rising geopolitical tensions, trade policy is increasingly seen through a national security lens. Where does this gloomy outlook leave the WTO? What role can it play in reducing the risks of trade fragmentation and restoring the credibility and relevance of a rules-based system? ___________________________________________ The Global Trade Series is a collaboration between AIG and the following international organisations with leading expertise on global trade: the Aspen Institute Germany; Chatham House (UK); CEBRI - the Brazilian Center for International Relations; the Clingendael Institute (The Netherlands); Institute of International Economic Law at Georgetown University Law Center (US); ISPI - the Italian Institute for International Political Studies; the Jacques Delors Institute (France); RIETI - the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (Japan) and the St. Gallen Endowment for Prosperity through Trade (Switzerland).  The views and opinions expressed in this podcast series are those of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of American International Group, Inc. or its subsidiaries or affiliates (“AIG”).
