They were tasked with investigating the latest evolutions in imaging technology, and any of the trends which may come to affect the BBC, or its audiences. Colin Warhurst reports.

Leider war ich wirklich nicht so Beeindruckt wie in dem Jahren 2014 oder bei der Photokina 2016. Mein Eindruck war, das dieVeranstaltung nachgelassen hat. Additionally, Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma announced the L-Mount alliance, which opens Leica’s SL camera mount to two new camera and lens manufacturers. https://shop.panasonic.com/lumixs   Fuji announced the GFX 50R - that is a more compact and rangefinder-style medium format version of the GFX 50S. The 50R will be quite about $2000 cheaper than the 50S at launch and it should start shipping in November 2018. To support the GFX-System even further, Fuji has added three new lenses to the G-mount lens-roadmap. The GF 50mm f3.5 (WR), the GF 45-100mm f4 (OIS & WR), and the GF 100-200mm f5.6 (OIS & WR). The new GR III will have a new 24MP sensor with phase detect AF pixel, an upgraded fixed 28mm EFV f2.8 lens, and a touchscreen. The camera is also even more compact than the previous model and should start to ship in spring 2019. http://news.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/rim_info2/2018/20180925_026135.html   Russian camera manufacturer Zenith surprised many experts by announcing the Zenith M, a real rangefinder camera with a full frame sensor that is based on the Leica M240. It is said that Zenith is building the camera body while Leica is manufacturing the sensor and electronics for this camera. The camera will ship together with a Zenitar 35mm f1.0 lens and a production run of 500 copies is planned to ship in Russia and Europe in early 2019. The price for the set is expected to cost around €5000.   Zeiss also remembered their tradition of making cameras and announced the Zeiss ZX1 full frame compact camera. The camera will have a 37MP full frame sensor with a fixed 35mm f2 Distagon leaf shutter lens. Nex to an electronic viewfinder the camera will have a 4.3” touch-screen rear LCD with a 1280x720 pixel resolution. The camera will store the images on an internal 512GM memory and a version of Adobe LightRoom CC is also installed onto the camera. On this week’s episode of the B&H Photography Podcast, we get the old band back together for one more gig. Joining us are Explora writers and podcast veterans Todd Vorenkamp and Shawn Steiner. They are not on the show just because we like them so much, but also because they are experts on camera gear and have written up most of the camera news from photokina 2018. In addition, we welcome Dana Glidden, the B&H social media manager, to join us. Glidden attended this year’s camera trade fair, which was held from September 26-29, 2018, in Cologne, Germany. We start the episode with Glidden, who provides an overview of the biggest, and perhaps most important camera expo on the planet, and then we go to Steiner and Vorenkamp to fill us in on the most impressive of the cameras, lenses, and other gear announced at this year’s show. Although announced before photokina, the Canon EOS R and the Nikon Z6 and Z7 mirrorless full-frame cameras were still the biggest draw at the convention. The Zeiss ZX1 Digital Camera, the Fujifilm X-T3 and the Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R also received their share of attention, as did the new medium format Fujifilm GFX 50R Mirrorless Camera. If it wasn’t already clear that high-end mirrorless cameras were in full display this year, a new silver Leica CL Mirrorless Digital Camera was also announced. Many lenses were also unveiled at photokina 2018, including the Zeiss Batis 40mm f/2 lens, the Sigma 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens, the Voigtländer NOKTON 50mm f/1.2, as well as several lenses for the new Nikon and Canon full-frame mirrorless systems. Other products discussed on the show are the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, the GoPro Hero 7, the Profoto B10 Off-Camera Flash and the Gitzo Mini Traveler tripod. Mein Photokina-Besuch! In der heutigen Folge möchte ich euch gerne von meinem Photokina-Besuch berichten. Die Photokina ist eine Fotografiemesse, die in Köln stattfindet. Es war die entspannteste Messe, auf der ich je war und ich durfte wirklich interessante Produkte austesten und kennenlernen. Warst du auch schon mal auf einer Fotografie-Messe? Woop woop! Die zweite Staffel ist gestartet! Kaum zu glauben, dass die erste Podcastfolge schon vor einem Jahr erschienen ist! Bei der zweiten Staffel wird sich ein bisschen etwas ändern, damit du noch mehr von meinen Erfahrungen und meinem Wissen profitieren kannst. Jeden Monat wird es nun ein Hauptthema geben, um die sich beide Podcastfolgen (1. und 3. Freitag im Monat) drehen werden. Am Donnerstag den 27.09.2018 war ich in Köln auf der Photokina und habe mich durch die Messe gekämpft. Dabei gab es viel erhellendes aber auch viel nachdenklich stimmendes! Positiv war, dass man es dort meistens nur mit "Fotoverrückten" zu tun hat. Ansonsten habe ich mal die ganzen Neuheiten angefast und mich beraten lassen. Hat sich der Besuch gelohnt?
