Who doesn't love a good James Bond thriller? In this episode, our guests, after spending over 50 years in the high-tech business, decided they wanted to return to their passion. What is their passion? Their passion is spy movies. Dan Silvestri and Tom Pivvato did their research and they discovered that most sites are dedicated solely to James Bond movies. They kept exploring and found out by examining other spy movies that had been made that so many of them are interrelated. Their curiosity led them to discover things about the origins of spy movies, common themes, scenes that you see within different movies, and the influence each spy movie has on others in this genre. They started a podcast called Spy Movie Navigator, and this podcast is designed to enhance your viewing experience when you watch different movies. It was created as a landing pad for people interested in spy movies, from the classics to current releases. Welcome to the show, Dan and Tom. We're very happy to be there. Gail, it's fantastic to be here. Thanks for inviting us. I'm excited to talk to you and learn more about this passion of yours. First of all, tell the readers what ignited your passion for delving into the genre of spy movies. I'll go first on that one. First of all, we have a website called SpyMovieNavigator.com and the podcast show is called Cracking the Code of Spy Movies! It went back to high school. I was at St. Ignatius High School, and my friends and I decided when Goldfinger came out that we were going to cut classes and sneak downtown and go see Goldfinger. It was the third James Bond movie ever out. We had a system in the class where the teachers took a roll call and they put the names on a piece of paper. They clipped it outside the door and then someone would come and pick it up. If your name was on the list, you were in the class. If it wasn't, you were absent. A friend of ours, our mission was to go downtown and see Goldfinger. Our inside guy was going to put our names on the lists for each of our classes and everything was going to be great. We went downtown and saw Goldfinger. It was terrific. I went back to school the next day, and we were in detention. Our friend chickened out. We were in detention for about a week, but it was worth it. That's got me started on the spy movies and James Bond in particular. How about you? For me, it was back in spy movies and the Columbo TV show. Columbo's not a spy, but it got me going on the genre of it. However, when I looked at things like The Spy Who Loved Me, which was the first Bond movie that I saw in the theater, it was like, “This is different. I like this type of movie.” That helped me with that. Why we started delving into them other than being fans is that we were on a trip and we were up in Piz Gloria,

No other film franchise inspires tourism the way the James Bond series does. From Switzerland’s revolving Piz Gloria restaurant that was featured prominently in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” to Thailand’s island of Khao Phing Kan where the climax of “The Man with the Golden Gun” was set, Bond movie locations continue to attract countless visitors each year. And topping the travel bucket list of every serious Bond fan is the country of Jamaica, where scenes from “Dr. No,” “Live and Let Die,” and the upcoming “No Time to Die” were shot. This week, Variety writer, Matt Chernov joins us to talk about his recent Jamaican 007 adventure.
What makes the Bond musical ‘sound’? This week Warren Ringham of Q The Music returns to the show to talk about the James Bond sound and his life as a performer dedicated to 007. We discuss the challenge of composing an original Bond-esque song as Warren has just completed his first composition. Along the way we tackle mainstream journalists writing about Bond music; Bond themes as a snapshot of their musical era and embracing the contemporary; melody replaced by rhythm and ambiance in much modern film scoring; Newman’s scores and where to from here with Zimmer; and the atmospheric scoring of Moonraker, Thunderball and From Russia With Love. We then transition to Warren’s personal story, growing up in a musical family, attending Music college and then 15 years of building the Q the Music tribute band. He notes the particular challenge of arranging the Bond music for his group and his commitment to creating an authentic Bond sound; Q the Music’s little flourishes or takes on some of the Bond themes; the buzz of the live performance; writing and performing a 20 minute medley for the 50th Anniversary event at Piz Gloria; and what might happen if he met his musical hero. The recording took place in the UK and New Zealand. This week Tom returns with Brian Dobson to reminisce about their pilgrimage to Piz Gloria to celebrate the 50th anniversary of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. You'll hear what it was like to spend an hour hanging out with George Lazenby at the bar. You'll discover what it was like to circle Piz Gloria from a helicopter with distinguished members of the world press. And you'll hear stories of grown men in tears at the sheer enormity of the occasion. Not only that, we talk about our Bond 'Euro Trip' across Switzerland to numerous Goldfinger locations, our visit to the Goldeneye Dam, and how we finished up the jaunt scoping out Mr. White's house from the waters of Lake Como.

Doch Vorsicht: dieser Bericht ist for your ears only! This week JBR returns with a look back at last month's visit to the ultimate Bond location, Piz Gloria. We'll also be talking about the latest Bond 25 rumours and more.
It's Christmas time! And this week we review a Bond film with a waft of Yule-tide dressing (a Christmas tree here, a wreath there...), and the only George Lazenby Bond film in the canon: On Her Majesty's Secret Service. In the shadow of the Connery purists, OHMSS is a solid Bond film with worthy set pieces and a perfect villain played by Telly Sevalas. The Piz Gloria, with it's loungy interiors and Alpine vistas is a madmen's redoubt where we could only hope to sip a Martini and woo a harem of international beauties.Download: 225 On Her Majesty's Secret Service
With a new Bond, a crazy amount of reference to the old Bond, no spy gadgets to speak of, and a whiplash-inducing tone shift at the end On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is worthy of much discussion. The podcast itself starts with an extended cold open. For those of you too impatient to listen to cold open shenanigans but who also read the show notes before listening, Bond talk begins just after minute 5. Besides Bond, the Brothers reference the following: We Got This, a Maximum Fun podcast, Sean Connery on the Tonight Show 1983, The Good Wife, Thalidomide, British or Gay ?, Piz Gloria, Who Loves Ya Baby 1975, Frau Blücher, The Last Policeman by Ben H. Winters, Sean Connery on Slapping Women, The Sad Story of Bond Girl Angela Scoular, All Time Box Office Records, the book Atomic Accidents, tickling the dragon's tail, World War Z audiobook, The Glorious Cause, Lost At Sea: The Jon Ronson Mysteries, Insane Clown Posse and Evangelical Christianity , and Gay Dinosaur Erotica File length 1:56:29 File Size 106.9 MB Do you write theme songs?
