The shares of Apple were among brands worst hit after US tariffs were announced, but President Trump maintained the American economy would ultimately "boom". Also: release date of Nintendo Switch 2 console revealed.
(The Center Square) – U.S. markets took their steepest dive Thursday since the pandemic hit in March 2020 as investors worry about how the U.S. economy will handle President Donald Trump's latest tariffs. The Dow industrials dropped 1,679 points, or 4%. The tech-focused Nasdaq slumped 6%. The S&P 500 fell 4.8%. The dollar slipped to its lowest level of the year. It was the sharpest one-day decline since March 2020, when many states shut down large parts of the U.S. economy to slow the spread of COVID-19. U.S. markets plummeted after Trump's "Liberation Day" for U.S. trade on Wednesday, when he announced a 10% baseline tariff on all countries that will take effect Saturday. Trump also put higher individualized reciprocal tariffs on the countries with which the United States has the largest trade deficits, including China, India and Vietnam, among others.Support this podcast: https://secure.anedot.com/franklin-news-foundation/ce052532-b1e4-41c4-945c-d7ce2f52c38a?source_code=xxxxxxFull story: https://www.thecentersquare.com/national/article_20573298-9c41-45a7-8b5d-2615ba81229b.html

Israel's GDP fell by 19.4 percent in the last quarter of 2023, according to preliminary figures published by the country's Central Bureau of Statistics on Monday. It's the biggest contraction the economy has seen since the early days of the Covid pandemic, and can be attributed to the impact of the war on Gaza following the October 7 Hamas attacks. In this edition of Business Daily, we take a look at what that conflict means for Israel's workforce and construction sector, as well as what to expect in 2024.

It's Friday, June 23rd, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Chris Galanek, sitting in for Adam McManus. By Jonathan Clark At least 700 Christians killed in Nigeria last month The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law reports at least 700 Christians were killed in Nigeria last month. Three hundred of the killings occurred over just three days in the country's north-central Plateau State. It's one of the bloodiest incidents of persecution against Christians in Nigeria. Since January, jihadists have killed over 2,000 Christians in the African nation. Nigeria is ranked sixth on the Open Doors' World Watch List of countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian. Africa now the world's terrorism hot spot Speaking of Africa, the continent is now considered the world's terrorism hot spot. Counterterrorism experts met this week at the U.N. Headquarters in New York City. They reported half of the victims of terrorism were in sub-Saharan Africa last year. International Christina Concern noted, “The Christian population in Africa faces an exigent security situation as the capabilities and intentions of terrorist groups expand throughout the continent.” Psalm 14:4 says, “Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call on the LORD?” Biden administration loses abortion and transgenderism case In the U.S., the Biden administration lost its case to force Christian healthcare workers to support abortion and transgenderism. The administration missed a Tuesday deadline to appeal a federal court ruling in the case. The ruling protected doctors from participating in actions that violate their conscience. Luke Goodrich, vice president at Becket Law, said, “After multiple defeats in court, the federal government has thrown in the towel on its controversial, medically unsupported transgender mandate. . . . This is a win for patients, conscience, and common sense.” David Horowitz's ominous warning to America America's next presidential election could be her last. That's the contention of David Horowitz, the author of America's #1 bestselling new political book entitled Final Battle. He talks on today's Generations Radio show with guest host Adam McManus. He says the Democrats pose a deadly threat to our freedom. Their real goal is a one-party state. And they are willing to break even Constitutional provision, law, precedent, and procedure to see that it happens. McMANUS: “The third comment that Gary Bauer made about the indictment of Donald Trump: The depth of the corruption in our federal institutions in their politicization is breathtaking. No reasonable person can believe it is merely a coincidence that just as the FBI is forced to reveal a document that finally puts the corruption charges against Biden on the front pages, Trump is suddenly indicted with predictable results.” HOROWITZ: “Biden's family has been made rich beyond their wildest dreams. I just saw an estimated of $50 million in bribes from foreign powers that are hostile to us, starting with China. They're traders. This is treason. “Trump has created the largest patriotic movement in American history. And the Democrats are always trying to portray Trump as a traitor or as somebody who's trying to overthrow the Constitution. “On the contrary, the facts are very simple. Make America Great Again and America First: These are patriotic sentiments and policies and attitudes. The Democrats turn everything on their head, everything they do they project onto their opponents.” To hear Adam's entire 29-minute interview with David Horowitz, author of America's number one political bestseller Final Battle, go to Generations.org/Radio. Charitable giving experiences steepest drop since 2007 The Giving USA Foundation reports charitable giving in America decreased to $499 billion last year, down from $517 billion in 2021. Factoring for inflation, it was a 10% drop in giving, the steepest decline since the Great Recession of 2007-2009. Despite this, churches and religious institutions remained by far the largest recipients of giving last year. Gifts to religious groups totaled $140 billion dollars. The next highest recipients were education and human services, each at $70 billion. Utah school board readmits Bibles into schools and libraries And finally, a school board in Utah reversed course on Tuesday and readmitted Bibles back into schools and libraries. Last month, the Davis School District banned Bibles for not being “age-appropriate.” The decision met with significant pushback before being reversed this week. The issue arose after Utah passed a law last year that lets parents challenge “sensitive material” in pubic schools. Unfortunately, the law, intended to protect children from indecent material, was used as an unsuccessful attack on the Bible. Psalm 12:6-7 says, “The words of the LORD pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. You shall keep them, O LORD, You shall preserve them from this generation forever.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Friday, June 23rd in the year of our Lord 2023. The Covid-19 Pandemic, which hit the global economy ‘below the belt', with the latter losing $12.5 trillion says IMF revised forecast, did not, however, undo account-able budgeting practices worldwide, according to a new survey by the International Budget Partnership (IBP), which it unveiled in its latest open budget survey (OBS) for 120 countries. Most countries preserved accountable spending practices in their annual budget processes during the pandemic. With South Korea spearheading inclusive practices for public consultation in the budget process, Nigeria, Benin, and the Gambia surprised financial bookmakers by being“among the biggest improvers in this round of the survey.

In this podcast, we discuss the perils of methamphetamine, also known as ‘meth', or ‘speed'.We learn that:It is one of the most destructive drugs due to its unique ability to get users high almost instantaneously. As quickly as it gets users high, it causes a quick crash which has users craving for more immediately. It is widely available, cheap, and pure, especially when it comes from Mexico, where most of it is produced. Its main destructive effect lies in its ability to trigger paranoid psychosis which gives rise to violence and other forms of unpredictable, harmful behaviour. It also causes anxiety, fatigue, and extreme depression, along with weight loss and bad teeth.Help is available for addiction to meth as with any other drug. The two key paths to recovery are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and 12-Step programs such as Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Keeping in mind that a recovery program should have elements of both for recovery to take hold and flourish.

First, the numbers. The country's industrial output shrunk by a staggering 4.3 per cent for the second month on the trot in September, recording its worst performance since the present series was launched in April 2012. In fact the decline was the steepest in eight years, and was only surpassed by a bigger drop way back in October 2011. What triggered such a huge fall? Major loss in manufacturing output and a deepening slowdown in capital goods production, among other factors, are the key reasons behind the latest contraction, which was much higher than the 1.4 per cent fall in August. In fact, the data released on Monday shows that the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) fell by the highest margin since October 2011. Beside this, mining output also fell by 8.4 per cent and electricity generation by 2.6 per cent in September. September saw the manufacturing sector, which accounts for 78 per cent of the IIP index, slow down to a much greater extent. That month, the sector's output contracted by 3.9 per cent, which was much higher than the 1.6 per cent contraction in August. Of the 23 sub-sectors within manufacturing, 17 recorded year-on-year contractions, up from 15 in the previous month. The IIP database showed that the contraction spread across all segments of the automobile sector, with motor vehicle production dipping by 25 per cent. Auto components, commercial vehicles and two-wheelers were flagged by the government as sectors pulling the overall IIP growth down. However, machinery production was down 18.2 per cent and the production of electronic goods remained contractionary, declining by 10.6 per cent in September. This, even after the government gave boost to manufacturing in a sustained manner over the past one year, through a series of benefits and a phased manufacturing programme aimed at reducing electronic imports. The capital goods segment contracted 20 per cent in September after a 21 per cent fall in August. Production in the category remained muted for the eighth-straight month despite government efforts to open up even more sectors to easier foreign direct investment (FDI) flows earlier this year. How have economists reacted to the crisis? To know more, listen to this podcast...

How much retirement income is enough is the most important question facing anyone trying to plan for retirement. Many people want to know if they can maintain the same lifestyle as when they were working. If you go back to and listen to episode number 23 (7 most common retirement dreams), you will find that this is dream number one. There are two ways to figure it out. Figure out living expenses: The first and most reliable way, and the way I suggest for anyone getting very close to retirement is to figure out your expenses and adjust these expenses for inflation. Since the majority of people do not have a budget or spending plan, there is another way to dial in. We call this the replacement rate. Income replacement rate: What percent of preretirement income is needed to sustain your current lifestyle? It depends on how much you earn right before you retire. Let’s use Mark as an example. Mark earns $75,000 per year. The money he earns goes towards saving, taxes and spending. When Mark retires he no longer will be saving for retirement, will pay less in taxes. His spending also decreases since the kids may have moved out, and more time to shop for deals or cook at home. Mark might only need 65% of his $75,000 to live the same lifestyle as when he was still working. This decrease in spending is well documented in studies the last 40 years. When we dig into the data, these spending declines depend on your income. Steepest declines happen with higher incomes, and this directly impacts the replacement rate. Laura earns $100,000 per year. She saves at a higher rate than Mark, pays more in taxes and has more spending. When Laura retirees, her replacement rate may only be 50%. The study separated high earners ($100,000 and over), middle earners ($50,000 to $100,000) and low earners (under $50,000). The replacement rate is 50% for high earners, 65% for middle earners and 80% for low earners. Low earners are the highest because the spend more on necessities before and after retirement. So once you find out your replacement rate, you need to figure out how to fund it. The good news for is social security has the greatest impact on low earners. For high earners, most of their retirement need to come from savings such as 401(k), IRA, and savings accounts. Why is it important for households to think about their replacement rate? Having a goal is the very first step when deciding how much you need to save to have a successful retirement. What is your income replacement rate?
