Harry Palmer created Avatar after his presidency of the Church of Scientology's Elmira Mission ended in the mid-1980s, as a result of legal proceedings around trademark infringement. Avatar says that it aims to create an 'enlightened planetary consciousness' or EPC through its courses, which are expensive and numerous. Former students say they have been left with massive debts as a result of their attendance.Full research sources listed here. Harry Palmer transformed his Scientology Franchise into Avatar in the 1980s. Despite staff allegations of misconduct, he was able to create a worldwide movement with more members than the International Association of Scientologists. Ariela Sarai graduated from Columbia University in philosophy and religion and then spent six months working with Mother Theresa's outreach program before studying Tibetan Buddhism in the Dalai Lama's community. Returning to the US, she received a Master's in Social Work and was a practicing psychotherapist when therapist friends recruited her into Avatar; she was at the top of the organization by the time she left - after 21 years. Jon discusses the training methods - which borrow extensively from Scientology - the abuse within the group, and her departure and recovery from it. One of the most interesting chats on the channel! Notes from Ariela: -The Avatar courses were held in conference rooms in hotels with 200-4000 people from 50 countries attending. When we didn't have a student, we paid an internship fee of $650 plus hotel and airfare to teach the course. I was in the top inner circle, having daily contact with Harry Palmer's wife Avra Honey-Smith. I ran international teams, helping them recruit students and making sure they all had good results using the tools. I was on a course for 14-17 days per month. -I am now a therapist with a full private practice, and I also work as a leadership coach at a Venture Capital firm. I am dedicated to helping people understand the tactics of manipulation and how to protect themselves and heal from this type of abuse. Although I don't actively seek to get people out of Avatar, I have helped many Avatars who reached out to me and needed help leaving and recovering. -I am writing a memoir with my partner Mark to share our inner journey of this experience. Steven Saltzman Interview. In honor of the 60th anniversary of James Bond movies, and to get a unique perspective on the making of the first 9 James Bond movies, we invited a very special guest, Steven Saltzman, to join us today! So join us now for this very special and exclusive Steven Saltzman interview! Steven had a unique childhood as he grew up as the James Bond franchise blossomed. He got to see the movies made and knew the cast and crew, and their children. How? Well, Steven is the son of Harry Saltzman and was a child when the Bond series started. Harry Saltzman co-produced the first nine Eon Productions James Bond movies. He also produced the first three Harry Palmer movies THE IPCRESS FILE, FUNERAL IN BERLIN, and BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN. Hear Steven Saltzman talk about being on the sets of those early Bond movies, how the family we always hear about in the Bond movies works, how he made some extra money in high school because of his James Bond connection, and many more fun stories of the James Bond world. Harry Palmer And of course we talked about the Harry Palmer movies his father produced. And, we talk a bit about the THE IPCRESS FILE television series that was released in Spring of 2022, for which Steven was an Executive Producer. We have an episode with Steven about the THE IPCRESS FILE series in our March 13, 2022 podcast episode. However, that interview was recorded in between the UK and US releases. We had to couch what we said in order to not give anything away. Now, Steven is able to give us a producer's insight in delivering a show for both the UK and US audiences. There are some things you, the audience member sitting in your own country, probably wouldn't think of. However, the producers must think about these things, as there are cultural differences. What's Next? We also discuss some of the projects Steven is working on now. He even gives us a scoop! So, join us for this fun Steven Saltzman interview. He gives us the elephants (listen to find out what that means). Ideas/Comment? info@spymovienavigator.com Website Episode Page: https://bit.ly/3iWQgsC Check out our other podcasts on our website.

Playing a steely female spy in a man's world in a remake of the movie The Ipcress File was an opportunity British actress Lucy Boynton embraced. The thriller's set in 1963 when former army sergeant Harry Palmer becomes a spy for British intelligence tasked with tracking down a kidnapped British nuclear scientist. The 1965 film starring Michael Cain as Palmer based based on Len Deighton's novel written in 1962. In the both those versions, the role of female spy Jean Courtney was more of a bit part, but in the ITV series about to air on Acorn TV, that's all changed. Lucy talks about her latest role with Lynn Freeman.
Producer Harry Saltzman takes newly-minted superstar Michael Caine back for a third dip into the Harry Palmer well, and the results are not great. In fact, the movie's performance with audiences and critics are so bad that Caine convinces Saltzman to release him from the planned five movie contract. It's the tradecraft that we are most interested in though, and Tod and Dave get into it like we always do. Please look forward to our continued week-by-week discussion of the new IPCRESS File television miniseries, followed by our final ‘Palmerfest' contribution in which we will tackle the final Palmer film, Midnight in St. Petersburg (1996). British ITV adaptation of the Len Deighton novel, also famously adapted for film in 1965. This version sticks firmly to its 1960's roots but makes interesting update choices in other areas. We will continue to discuss each episode of the six-episode miniseries on a weekly basis. IN ADDITION we are working on a movie episode for 1967's Billion Dollar Brain, another Harry Palmer movie, hopefully for release as soon as next week.
Steven Saltzman, the son of Harry Saltzman who co-produced the first 9 Eon Productions James Bond movies and who in the mid 1960s, also produced the first three Harry Palmer movies based on Len Deighton's books, THE IPCRESS FILE, FUNERAL IN BERLIN and BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN - Steven is now an Executive Producer of the 6-part TV series, THE IPCRESS FILE, that is out now - and Steven joins us today to tell us the exclusive inside scoop on the Hows and Whys of THE IPCRESS FILE TV series production! THE IPCRESS FILE TV series through is now showing in some countries, will show in the US on AMC+ and stars Joe Cole as Harry Palmer, Tom Hollander as Major Dalby, Lucy Boynton as Jean Courtney, David Dencik as Colonel Stok and other great cast members as well! In the immediate frenzy of the James Bond-fueled 1960's spy craze, it's very interesting to note that Bond co-producer Harry Saltzman chooses this moment to produce a sort of ‘Anti-Bond' spy film. Michael Caine brings a ‘working man's' subtlety to his portrayal of a spy character that will strongly influence the more realistic spy films that will follow in further decades. A new iteration of this seminal work of spy fiction is just around the corner. March 6th has just been announced as the first of a planned 6 episode miniseries of the IPCRESS File on ITV. David and Tod plan to watch and review each episode, each week. Along the way, we will also be reviewing a selection of the Harry Palmer films, specifically Billion Dollar Brain and Last Night in Petersburg. The final (for a while, anyway) edition of And Now For Something Completely Similar begins with a discussion of the third Harry Palmer flick - Billion Dollar Brain. During this discussion, the guys talk about it all including how this movie completely abandons the "mundane" approach of The IPCRESS File in favour of the populist Bond format, the villain sadly being more relevant in 2021, lack of computer understanding in 1967, Jason does some observational comedy about Karl Malden and much more. Next week: And Now For Something Completely Similar continues with an examination of the 2003 "remake" of The Italian Job. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Our hero returns to the safe familiar bosom of Harry Palmer, after last week's unsuccessful tryst with Hurry Sundown. And speaking of bosoms, Ken Russell is behind the lens for this outing so the sauce levels are at an all time high. Sadly, no nude Caine but his legs get a brief airing. Billion Dollar Brain is, frankly, a bit mental and can be best summarised as an evil Colonel Sanders commanding an army of white supremacists, advised by an AI attempt to invade Russia via Finland (tale as old as time).Join Michael and Stephen as they discuss sperm armies, fully-clothed saunas and whether or not Palmer ever got his car loan. This episode is literally Brendan and Jason talking about nothing. They do answer some listener mail though, talk about their new horror movie/lemonade podcast spinoff, rant about prequels, directors who should just shut up and be British and much more. Next week: the guys return with a discussion of the first installment of And Now for Something Completely Similar with a discussion of the third Harry Palmer adventure - Billion Dollar Brain starring Michael Caine. Harry Palmer returns! But should he have bothered? Michael Caine is the admin James Bond in this 1966 classic that is basically about one man's attempt to get a car loan. No, really. It's got all the right ingredients: Cold War, defection, Nazis, multiple concussions. But is it a tasty tale? That metaphor works, right? We take a deep dive into the Ipcress File and the face and glasses that launched, if not a thousand ships, at least two tug boats and a barge. Cooking as foreplay! On the 1st of September 1939, Nazi Germany declared war on Poland. The Second World War had begun and Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party, finally had the chance to realise his dystopian vision. But he didn't risk demonstrating blatant aggression. Instead, an entire fake Polish attack was staged on the night of the 31st of August, complete with murdered prisoners dressed as Polish soldiers.
Agents Scott and Cam, along with guest operative Rob Mallows of The Deighton Dossier, bid their friend Harry Palmer farewell by examining the 1990s TV movies Bullet to Beijing and Midnight in St. Petersburg, and then reflecting on the character's five-film journey. Say It Skillfully® is a show that helps you to benefit from Molly Tschang's expert guidance on the best possible ways to speak your mind at work in a positive & productive manner. Molly's first caller, Keishla, is keen to succeed in change management and engage her entire team: “leapers, road builders and tradition holders” alike. Then, Heidi had three different friends reach out to her... on their behalf we unpack how to return after a medical leave, to not be caught as a “go-between” when some wants you to relay information to another, and to call out gossip in a constructive way (20:45). I then cover two situations: 1) someone caught between 80-hour work weeks and having a life with his young family, and 2) being self-confident to go for a promotion and knowing how to be lucky (38:30)! Molly closes with a Harry Palmer's Avatar compassion exercise and urges you to take a few minutes to experience this ???? (45:40). Molly's thought for the week – Thank you Seth Godin! We have the power (and perhaps the obligation) to use shared knowledge to make better, more thoughtful decisions. And to intentionally edit out the manipulations and falsehoods that are designed to spread, not to improve our lives. Join the show and learn how to navigate work while being invaluable and true to yourself.
