In today's episode, Raha Moharrak and I have a discussion about her life as a mountaineer and what she learned from scaling Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world at 29032 feet. When I think of Raha's story, a quote from Nelson Mandela comes to mind. What Mandela said was this: “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers his fear"Raha exemplifies what it means to be courageously bold in one's life and to take the risks needed to leap into the unknown. For Raha that leap into the unknown led her to scaling some of the most difficult mountain tops in the world. What makes Raha's story even more inspiring is that she was able to achieve all of this during a time when many young Saudi woman were discouraged from dreaming big and taking on difficult challenges. Having grown up in Jeddah, Raha had never been exposed to mountaineering but she lived a very adventurous and athletic life early on which propelled her on to dreaming big. In order to prepare for her journey to the top of Everest, Raha was required to get as much climbing experience as possible. In the year prior to summiting Everest she challenged herself to be able to scale 7 of the highest peaks in the world, as well she worked on her technical skills in mountaineering at a climbing school in Seattle, Washington. Her story is amazing as is her passion for inspiring all people to better understand that within each of them are limitless possibilities. I hope you enjoy my discussion with Raha Moharrak and share this episode with anyone who you feel will benefit from listening. Connect With RahaInstagramFacebookTwitterRead CNN's Article on Raha

Her name has made global headlines, and today Raha is a female ambassador for a number of global luxury brands including Burberry, Adidas, and others…During the episode, Omar explores with Raha all the stigmas and cultural norms that she had to push against in order to pursue this dream of hers. After years of hard work and grit, Raha shares her perspective on success, and what does it truly take for anyone to climb a mountain from a both actual and metaphorical sense. In this episode, Omar Almajali takes you behind the scenes and into the minds of his inspiring guests to tell you the untold story of their success while also sharing the tips, hacks, and habits that can help you on your own journey toward success.
Raha Moharrak is the first Arab woman and youngest Arab to have climbed Mount Everest and the Seven Summits. On the question of why she climbs mountains, her laconic answer is, “because I was told I couldn't”. According to her, nobody believed she could do it. Being the first Saudi woman to climb Everest was far from what people expected. She has literally eradicated that stereotype and is now one of the leading Saudi females who are recognized to break barriers and defy all norms. She says that she is honored that she's now part of history, but she doesn't think it would mean anything if it doesn't change anything. www.meetingexplorers.com
What could be more difficult than climbing a mountain? Convincing your family first! In this episode, we chat to Raha Moharrak, the youngest Arab woman to climb Mount Everest (and 9 other summits) about what it really takes. A very inspiring episode that will make you want to go out and conquer your fears!
I had the honour and pleasure of speaking to Raha Moharrak about her epic journey on completing the 7 summits, career and life, and her plans for the future. Raha spoke to me about her early ambitions in life. We talked about where her love for travel came from and where and why this idea of conquering the 7 summits came from. We spoke about the challenges she had in convincing her parents to want to achieve her dreams. As a Saudi woman, she felt as though she would be breaking down barriers, and by doing so, she would pave the way for the next generation, particularly women in Saudi Arabia. Raha spoke to me in detail about the 7 summit journey itself and how this led her to become internationally recognised. According to CNN, she became the first female from Saudi Arabia to conquer this feat. Her courageous outlook in life and her success led her to partner with major brands such as Tag Heuer, Nike, Adidas, Lipton, and L'Oréal. These are to name a few. In 2016, she had the distinctive honour of winning 'Emirates Woman of the Year.' Raha spoke to me about how she handles the pressure now and whether that is praise coming her way, or negativity. I talked to her about whether she feels the stress of being a role model as well. We also spoke about how a lot of influencers are wasting their talent and not doing enough. She feels as though they can use their voice for the greater good. I also spoke to Raha about how tourism in Saudi Arabia has picked up, and she couldn't be happier. Raha said she was blown away by some of the places she went to when she was travelling and filming for her TV show. Raha spoke to me about some of her other travels. We talked about her completing the 7 Wonders of the World. She also told me about what place resonates with her the most. She also spoke to me about some of her hobbies which I think many people will be surprised about when they hear what she collects. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Raha. I look forward to seeing what she has planned next, and I am honoured to have had her on my show. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/8dIEDfPpzHs). This week’s episode of Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Arnie Weissmann, Editor-in-Chief of Travel Weekly, joins us in Saudi Arabia to discuss the opening of the Kingdom — and the restored UNESCO World Heritage site of Diriyah Gate. He argues that there’s no travel destination with a story as unique as well as the special circumstances that brought very few visitors here before — with many more coming now. And all of this happening in the shadow of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi a little more than a year ago. Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, discusses the spike in global tourism and human connectivity – and where it meets hospitality. And Her Royal Highness Princess Adhwa also stops by to discuss the radical progression of female rights. Joyce was born in 1984, during the Lebanese Civil War in Beirut. While growing up, Joyce didn’t get to spend time outdoors in nature or in the mountains, her childhood was traumatic, living in a war zone and having to flee her family home to escape the bombings. We meet the young woman who would not take a paternal ‘no’ for an answer, and as a consequence she became the first Arab woman to scale the seven summits, including the mighty Mount Everest! But climbing mountains was just the start for Raha, who is now tackling the much more daunting task of changing cultural perceptions in her native Saudi Arabia.
Raha Moharrak is the first Saudi woman and youngest Arab to climb Mount Everest. She tells us about her experience.
Growing up in Saudi Arabia, females didn't pick internationally famous mountain climber as an occupation. However, Raha Moharrak was an odd one (her words) who didn't handle authority well. Always struggling to fit into the cookie cutter mold, hyper and opinionated Raha sought out spots as an outlet for her energy. As Raha grew older, her defiant streak pushed her further. First, she didn't want to have a guardian, a norm in Saudi Arabian culture, when she went out. Second, Raha doesn't wear a hijab. Finally, the moment the Saudi government allowed women to drive, she grabbed the keys from her dad and hit the road. Now Raha is an international brand ambassador, public speaker and has climbed the 7 Summits. Beyond expectations indeed.
Growing up as a Saudi woman, Raha was given a lot of limitations due to her gender. Having an adventurous soul, Raha knew that she wanted to do something more than what her culture expected her to do, despite knowing she will have to deal with criticism. Then, Raha had what many would call a "crazy" idea to climb the worlds highest mountains. Climbing the 7 summits on its own was a challenge enough, but for Raha it also meant breaking a taboo. Today, Raha is the first Saudi female to climb the 7 summits and is a public speaker traveling all over the world to encourage other women to have the courage to leave their comfort zone and not be afraid to break the mold. On this episode, Raha talks about how to deal with criticism and how to turn a huge responsibility into an opportunity to make a difference in the world.
