Meghan Buchanan - mountaineer, adventure athlete, and advocate for neurodivergence, & aerospace engineer. Meghan has successfully summited the Seven Summits—the highest peaks on each continent—including Mount Everest and Antarctica's Mount Vinson. She is also close to completing the Explorers Grand Slam, which entails reaching both the North and South Poles in addition to the Seven Summits. As an advocate for neurodivergence, Meghan openly shares her experiences with dyslexia, inspiring others to embrace their unique challenges. She developed the GGRIT philosophy—Gratitude, Growth, Resilience, Integrity, and Tenacity—which she embodies in her pursuits and promotes through motivational speaking engagements. In 2024, Meghan expanded her reach by joining the cast of Netflix's “Outlast” Season 2, a survival competition set in the Alaskan Arctic that tests contestants' physical endurance, mental fortitude, and teamwork skills. Her participation showcased her resilience and adventurous spirit to a broader audience. Meghan at a young age was diagnosed with dyslexia, and faced significant academic challenges. Her mother instilled in her a philosophy of perseverance, emphasizing that with hard work, she could achieve anything. This mindset propelled Meghan to earn an undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder and a master's degree in engineering management, leading to a successful career with prominent companies such as Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. Beyond her engineering achievements, Meghan is a dedicated adventure athlete. Her passion for the outdoors began in childhood, hiking with her father. In 2011, she suffered a severe snowboarding accident in Vail's Sunup Bowl, breaking her left femur and enduring a challenging 19-month recovery. Defying medical expectations, she not only regained her mobility but also pursued mountaineering with renewed determination. Through her multifaceted career and personal endeavors, Meghan Buchanan continues to inspire and empower individuals worldwide, demonstrating that with determination and GGRIT, any obstacle can be overcome. Tune in as Meghan Buchanan joins Bobby Marshall in studio to discuss mountaineering, impacts to the environment, public lands, Mt. Everest, neurodivergence, would travels, culture, mountain life, and so much more. On Christmas Day in 2018, American endurance athlete Colin O'Brady woke up in a tent, by himself, in the middle of Antarctica. He hadn't seen another human being in 50 days. He hitched up his sled, fell into a flow state bordering on hallucination, and walked 77 miles without stopping to become the first person to cross Antarctica on foot and unassisted. Since achieving this feat, O'Brady has set 11 world records, completed the Explorers Grand Slam, written several books and unlocked the secrets to pushing past limits. The author of The 12-Hour Walk sits down with Mind Game host Casey Bannon to debrief on a life spent overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds, starting with the freak 2007 burn accident in Thailand that threatened to take away his ability to walk at the age of 22.

BEST MOMENTS "I want people to realize that not everyone's going to climb Everest, but we all have an Everest to climb." "It's never about the finish line. It's never about the summit. It's never about the new car. It's never about the race. It's never about the new house. It's never about that physical stuff. It's never about the goal, because you can always make more money. You can always buy another car. You can always climb another mountain. You can always run another race. If you're looking for those things to make you happy, you're going to be unhappy your entire life." "It always seems impossible until it's done." "If you want something different, do something different." "Just pick one thing that you think has the most control over you and replace it with something positive, something that's going to benefit you as opposed to consuming, create something." In addition to breaking ten world records, Colin O'Brady's feats include the world's first solo, unsupported, and fully human-powered crossing of Antarctica, speed records for the Explorers Grand Slam and the Seven Summits, and the first human-powered ocean row across Drake Passage. Would you be surprised to hear he's a three on the Enneagram?  But as he grows older, his approach to achieving his goals is changing. “It's not the same burning desire, like deep in my bones,” says Colin. Is he losing his “three-ness” or is there something deeper going on here? On this episode of Typology, we explore the ways our approach to goals, and the need to achieve, can evolve over time.  — Colin O'Brady is a ten-time world record breaking explorer, speaker, entrepreneur, and expert on mindset. In my previous two episodes of Breaking Free, I discussed some of my favorite books and talked about how reading can increase your confidence in many areas. Well my guest this week shares how reading helped him follow his heart and find his purpose in life.Mostafa Salameh grew up in a Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan and found a way to reach England. He taught himself English by watching Sesame Street which eventually opened up a whole new world for him when he started to read inspirational books. The Alchemist, The Prophet, The Celestine Prophecy were the stepping stones to him becoming a great Explorer, Inspirational Speaker, Fundraiser and Author himself. His memoir DREAMS OF A REFUGEE is an extraordinary story of faith, bravery and perseverance with a foreword written by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan.Mostafa is the only Palestinian-Jordanian and one of only 20 people to climb the Seven Summits and reach the South Pole and the North Pole - known as the ‘Explorers Grand Slam' . He skied Greenland from north to south and his next big goal is to run 7 marathons in 7 continents in 7 days. Mostafa is the amazing proof that you can dream big and make anything happen if you open your heart with full conviction. His passion is changing people's lives and he has found it through climbingfor charity, raising awareness about causes that are close to his heart and giving others the opportunity to experience adventures alongside him.His courage to commit to climbing Everest and ask for King Abdullah of Jordan's support to do so, when he had no prior experience or the required fitness levels, is astounding to say the least !Discussed in this episode:How King Abdullah II of Jordan generously offered to write the foreword of Mostafa's memoir (4:00)How life in a Palestinian refugee camp with strong family bonds shaped his personality (5:45)Life in London starts in the basement of The Jordanian Embassy in Belgravia (8:30)Learning English from Sesame Street and The Sun newspaper while working in the restaurant kitchen (12:00)Watching Mel Gibson in Braveheart inspires Mostafa to study in Edinburgh (13:45)The dream of climbing Everest happened in 2004 and turned his life around (16:00)The steps Mostafa took to make his dream a reality even though he had a fear of heights (20:00)Inspired to help others with LOWEST to HIGHEST for CANCER after meeting a young cancer patient (35:40)Follow your heart and the 777 challenge (40:00)References:The Prophet by Gibran Khalil GibranThe Alchemist by Paulo CoelhoThe Celestine Prophecy by James RedfieldDreams of a refugee by Mostafa SalamehConnect with Mostafahttps://www.mostafasalameh.comhttps://www.instagram.com/mostafasalameh/https://www.linkedin.com/in/mostafasalameh/Connect with Rania FacebookInstagramTwitterLinkedInWebsite Hosted on Acast. His new book is called The 12 Hour Walk. Notes: What's your Everest - The question he asked all the rich bankers that night that none had an answer to? What's your answer? What are you doing to turn that into a reality? Limiting beliefs - “We are the stories we tell ourselves.” What story are you telling yourself about… Yourself? Life is on a scale of 1 to 10. Most people live most days around a 5 or 6. They don't have any 1s and they don't have any 10s. What can you do to change that? How can you live a life that has some 1s and 10s? Mantra: "Colin! You are strong. You are capable." The most important muscle is the brain.  The possible mindset: See the optimism in all opportunities. Colin's mom told him he could achieve anything that he set his mind to. Colin had an accident and caught on fire while jumping a flaming jump rope... His doctor told him that he would probably never walk again. At that moment, Colin set the goal to complete a triathlon. A year later, he WON the Chicago triathlon. With Colin as your guide, The 12-Hour Walk asks you to invest one day in yourself. The goal? Conquering your mind and becoming your best self. By walking alone, unplugging, listening to the voice within, and rewriting the limiting beliefs etched into your psyche, you can break free of the patterns holding you back and learn how to cultivate a “Possible Mindset”—an empowered way of thinking that unlocks a life of limitless possibilities. The reward: being the hero of your own destiny. Question to ask yourself: What is your Everest? What does fulfillment look like? You must take care of yourself first... Excellence: A deep connection with your why. PASSION. Genuine curiosity Love If no one was watching, would you still do it?

So, what would make someone strap a sled loaded with 375 pounds of food and supplies onto their body, then drag it across a stormy, windswept, frozen landmass at the bottom of the earth for 54 days in brutal subzero temperatures, just to say they did it? What might the average person - meaning you and me - who has little to no interest in doing anything remotely so extreme, learn from this experience that would translate into our ability to live better lives, in far less brutal environments, every day? And, how might committing to a more accessible, single-day of challenge, radically change our perspective on all parts of life? These are the questions I had, and the topics we explore with today's guest, ten-time world record-breaking explorer, speaker, entrepreneur, and expert on mindset, Colin O'Brady. His feats include the world's first solo, unsupported, and fully human-powered crossing of Antarctica, speed records for the Explorers Grand Slam and the Seven Summits, and the first human-powered, 700-mile ocean row across Drake Passage, maybe the most dangerous and brutal body of frigid, wave-stream ocean that spans South America to Antarctica. Colin's highly publicized expeditions have been followed by millions and his work has been featured by The New York Times, The Tonight Show, The Joe Rogan Experience, and The Today Show. He is the author of The New York Times bestseller The Impossible First and now The 12-Hour Walk: Invest One Day, Conquer Your Mind, and Unlock Your Best Life. But, what got me so curious, was how preparing for and then mounting these extreme, physically-grueling challenges, was actually as much, if not more about the mind as it was about the body. And, I wanted to know, beyond why anyone would do these things, how they changed him, as a human being, what we all might learn from this and how we might create more accessible, yet transformative versions in our own lives, and experience the powerful benefits that come from them? And, as part of that, we talk about an interesting invitation he's created to say yes to what he calls The 12-Hour Walk. You can find Colin at: Website | The 12-Hour Walk | InstagramIf you LOVED this episode you'll also love the conversations we had with Rich Roll about the interplay between body and mind and how we can use each as a lever to evolve the other.Check out our offerings & partners: My New Book SparkedMy New Podcast SPARKEDVisit Our Sponsor Page For a Complete List of Vanity URLs & Discount Codes.ClickUp: 15% Off. She has taken on impossible and defying odds to inspire all of us.  Her story is incredible including a broken femur with two years of excruciating pain and physical therapy to pulling off the impossible as a mountaineer.  She is the "Rocket Girl" - Breaking Boundaries for Women in Engineering and Mountaineering.  She has overcome stereotypes, obstacles, and life-threatening injuries by applying her tools of GGRIT. Gratitude – Growth – Resilience – Integrity – Tenacity Our interview wasn't long enough.  You will be inspired, amazed, and come out of this wanting to hear more.  Lessons from a Rocket Scientist who Climbed Mount Everest and so much more.   Let me just say, it was just a blessing for me to have such a great conversation with a person of inspiration.  Thank you Meghan!
