My successful YouTube show, 'Take a Wander with Shebs,' is now ready to be listened to in audio format. The show features some of the biggest names from the world of travel. Each show aims to take my guests on a wander and uncover topics that may not be discussed on their platform or media. Whether that's the state of travel blogging and journalism as it is today. Or whether there is enough diversity within the sector. Perhaps what impact technology and social media have had on the industry. Or, in general, the impact of current affairs on the business. I also try to find out the journey behind each individual's success, as this is more important to me than the actual travel. Get ready to be inspired and Take a Wander with Shebs!

This is a special edition of the show. I spoke to Masum (name changed to protect his identity), who is in Kabul, Afghanistan, about the current situation in the country. It was intriguing to listen to Masum's story as he went into fine detail about pre-2001, during the 20 years the Americans were inland, and post-August 15th. He tells me what it's really like to live under the Taliban. I also spoke to Conference Director and Travel Photographer Shane Dallas to give his perspective of Afghanistan as it is now and what he made of it all when he travelled there as a visitor. I talked to a family who fled the country and a couple of women about their take on life as an Afghan. Unfortunately, they all didn't appear on the show as they were terrified of what may happen to them. But I sum up what they told me. This was fascinating for me to cover and hopefully will give people a little insight into life as an Afghan. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/Vbc63BTXVM8). I had the pleasure of talking to travel influencer, Carolina Jiménez. Carolina is from Colombia, and she discussed with me why she leapt to leave her job in a profession where she obtained a bachelors and masters degree. We went into detail about how she first fell in love with travelling and why she wanted to continue writing that narrative. You will see from our discussion that Carolina was in love with a guy she thought she would be travelling the world together. It turned out to be all so different when the man she loved broke her heart. With a broken heart, that didn't stop Carolina from travelling. We discussed perhaps meeting the love of her life on the road, whether possible with all the travelling. We talked in detail, what travel means to Carolina, and what she has learnt from some of her experiences to date. Whether it has changed her and whether she finds it easy to make friends along the way. Carolina and I also talked about what goals she has with work. She spoke to me about the possibility of working in the influencing industry for a long while, as she has amassed a large following on Instagram. We also discussed other avenues which she would like to go into. We spoke about whether she would like to travel more around South America and her home country, Colombia. She also talked to me about some of her hobbies. It was a fascinating discussion, and I look forward to seeing what Carolina gets up to next. I sat down and spoke to the host of one of the longest-running travel podcasts, Megan Chapa. Megan hosts the show, Travel Radio Podcast. We went into detail about how she first fell in love with travelling and why she wanted to continue writing that narrative. We talked about why she started the podcast and sustained the show for more than four years. Megan and I discussed what she has done to keep the show fresh over the years. We talked about what is required to start a podcast and what quality you need to make it successful. Megan also told me about what guest she remembers fondly. It was a great discussion, and I look forward to seeing Megan grow in the industry. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/t3KpqO2RUWU). I sat down and spoke to the founder of ecomadic, Jaclyn Yost. Ecomadic is a sustainable travel platform company, launching in the autumn of 2021 to challenge significant travel booking platforms. Jaclyn spoke passionately about beaming light on environmental and social sustainability issues through travel in this discussion. I spoke in detail with Jaclyn about how she first fell in love with travelling. Jaclyn also talked to me about living in different countries and what she learnt from those experiences. I discussed with Jaclyn why she wanted to start a sustainable travel company and her ambition behind the business. I spoke to her about the challenges ecomadic has faced so far and her vision for the business. How many people the company employs and whether they have a headquarter. I also discussed whether the company is looking to generate funding. Jaclyn and I discussed competitors in the field and whether the established brands are working towards an eco-friendly way of doing business. If they do, how would ecomadic tackle this? Sir David Attenborough also endorsed ecomadic. I asked what that meant to her and the company. I also spoke to her about what travel means to her and where she would like to settle as she has lived a nomadic lifestyle in recent years. It was a fascinating discussion, and I look forward to seeing what Jaclyn and ecomadic get up to soon. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/l0bsE1TIyMY). I had the pleasure of talking to entrepreneur, globetrotter and travel host, Scott Eddy. One of our most significant discussions was on how to run a business that incorporates travel into your work and lifestyle and how anyone can do it at the highest standard. Scott and I spoke about his early life, working in the corporate world as a stockbroker. We talked about why he left that field and what made him fall in love with travel. My main focus point with Scott was looking at how people want to be in the travel space but don't necessarily have the work ethic or lack the business acumen to be part of it. I talked about his success and what he has that not many have. Has his corporate success early on helped lead to the success he has now? I also discussed why Scott feels as though the influencer space lacks creativity and why he doesn't want to be regarded as one. Scott and I talked about his T.V. show, VideoGlobetrotter, which airs in the United States on Lifestyle. I asked him what the show entails and what makes it different from other travel shows. We spoke about the future of the show. All of that and much more on this fascinating discussion. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/Gh_aOSktxTE). I had the honour and pleasure to talk to actress, producer, director, host, and documentary maker, Drea Castro. Our main topic of discussion was based on Drea's career and how she manages to incorporate travel with her busy work life. Born in the Philippines, Drea moved across to the United States at the age of 4. She talked to me about visiting the Philippines every summer to stay in touch with her Filipino routes. I spoke to her about what it was like getting the best of both American and Filipino culture. Drea and I spoke about her education and how to broke into the world of Hollywood. I discussed some of her obstacles and how she doesn't just see herself as an actress but someone talented at creating a body of work through different mediums. In particular, we spoke about her photography and how she has evolved with time when producing her work. We talked about how much of an impact social media has had on photography. We discussed some of her travels and why she started a travel podcast called, Roaming the Earth. I was intrigued to see why she didn't start a podcast about one of her professions rather than one about travelling. I also asked Drea what she has installed in the coming months and where she would like to see her career go next. It was a fascinating talk, and I look forward to seeing which direction Drea goes to next. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/uCEcninYEHI). I had the honour and pleasure to talk to travel journalist, documentary maker and broadcaster, Ash Bhardwaj. Our main topic of discussion was based on how South Asian travellers, journalists, content creators can be seen and heard more in the media. We discussed what obstacles are being faced and the short-term and long-term solutions to improve south Asian diversity within the sector. Ash and I also discussed how he first got into writing and journalism. And what was it that made him stand out? We also discussed him being a multi-media journalist. We also discussed the state of journalism today and where it is heading in the future. I also discussed what his plans are in the coming months and the near future. I also talked to Ash about what it was like to travel during the pandemic and whether it was all worth it. A thoroughly fascinating discussion. A lot to take from our talk. Anniversary special What a year! A pandemic year. A year in which I have pretty much distanced myself from everyone. Much like everyone else has! But there was one thing that I was proud to have started during 2020. That was my travel podcast, Take a Wander with Shebs. And what better way to celebrate the first anniversary than to interview the man who has produced consecutive weekly episodes and has pioneered the show. An interview inspired by the state of the current climate. An interview with none other than myself, Shebs Alom! I also have to reference British GQ; I've seen plenty of interviews over the years where people have interviewed themselves and thought I could do the same. I discussed with myself whether I ever saw myself in this position a year on. Which interview has struck me the most. Whether I keep in touch with any of the guests. Where do I see the show and myself going forward. And what currently annoys me the most! I hope everyone enjoys this spoof, and I can continue bringing great conversations from exceptional individuals from around the world. I sat down with Alex Schnee to talk about her travel blogging career and how she has managed to make that a success with her blog, Alex on the Map. This was the third time I had spoken to Alex about her journey to date as I had conducted an Instagram Live with her back in April 2020. The talk unfortunately disappeared due to Instagram not giving the option to save the video at that time. This is part 2; part 1 is about food & travel and was technically my second chat with her. In this discussion, we discussed how she fell in love with travelling and her journey to starting her travel blogging career. One of the topics we discussed was her struggles early on in her teenage life, as she said she struggled with an eating disorder. We spoke about how she overcame this. We discussed what it takes to start a blog and evolve as a blogger by going into different business areas, such as photography, videography etc. We also discussed how she finds hosting Instagram Lives and Podcasts. Alex and I also discussed her love for pizza and what she would like to accomplish for 2021. As always, it was great to have Alex on, and I look forward to seeing what she conquers for this year. Simon Parker is a Telegraph travel writer, columnist and BBC broadcaster. His show, Earth Cycle, airs on Amazon Prime worldwide. I had the honour and privilege to sit down and talk to Simon about his life and career up to the present date. Simon spoke to me about how he initially fell in love with travelling. Growing up in north Oxfordshire, he said there were no shops, no pubs, and not much to do, making him eager to get away as he got older. He didn't do much travelling during his early life apart from a few holidays with family. So once Simon had finished school, he bought a one-way ticket to New Zealand, hitchhiked the entire country, and then decided to go and do the same thing in Australia. That was the hook. Simon just knew he had to be in the travel industry after that, and he knew he would find a way. Simon told me because of his solitary adventure in New Zealand and Australia; he doesn't particularly like to follow the crowd or do activities in big organised groups, which is why he loves the idea of hiking and riding by himself or in a small group. We discussed how he broke into travel writing and journalism. We talked about journalism as it is today and where it is heading in the future. Our discussion on the speed of news breaking was fascinating. What significant factor has social media had on journalism? Was this why Simon wants to work on articles that take a long time to produce? I discussed with Simon about his television show, Earth Cycle: Northern Europe, which won Best Broadcast Programme at the Travel Media Awards for 2020. I asked him what it felt like winning the award and whether he had plans for future shows now that it has had recognition. We also discussed the issues of over-tourism. Simon suggested ways we can all help with this matter. Another topic we discussed was how fast travelling would pick up once we are out of this pandemic. Simon felt as though there would be a renaissance for international travel, which led to an interesting discussion on the continuing debate worldwide on the impact of travel on the environment. Simon does give a great viewpoint on the subject matter. Simon talked to me about his public speaking and talking to young people about what travel has done for him and what it can do for them. We again spoke about social media and the impact it has had on travel. Simon has interviewed many icons and told me about what it was like to interview tennis legend Roger Federer in 2020 for the BBC. He also spoke about what it was like to interview cricket player Ben Stokes in the press room after he scored a double century against South Arica in Cape Town back in January 2016. Talking of cricket, Simon told me about his passion for the sport. He has played cricket himself all over the world on a non-professional level. We also spoke about how he balances out his travels with his home life as he is in a relationship. Simon also talked to me about his future aspirations and his advice to people trying to break into journalism, travel and the media. It was a real delight to have Simon on the show. I could have spoken to him all day about travel. I look forward to seeing what he gets up to next. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/7uO_U_SvOvA). I sat down and spoke to Shane Dallas, a keynote speaker, conference director, social media expert and photographer. We discussed how he fell in love with travelling at a young age and how his career started in the travel industry. One of the topics we talked about was his photography. Shane got noticed because he took photos of places on the road less travelled, which not many did back in the early 2000s or do so today. We talked about why he travels the road less travelled and the meaning behind him starting his weekly Twitter chat, TRLT. Did Shane ever envision the Twitter chat lasting this long and it being this successful? I also spoke to him about what he likes to do away from work and travel. Plus, whether he has plans to go back to Australia. I thoroughly enjoyed my talk with Shane, and I hope people take something away from our discussion. I spoke to Alex Live on my Instagram on May 25th, 2020 at 11pm BST/6pm EDT. Alex decided to cook us all ratatouille. This show aimed to discuss what types of food we both have eaten on our travels and why we love to try different cuisines worldwide. I had the pleasure of speaking to Mad Nomad, adventurer, writer and author, Elias Vrohidis. Elias and I discussed how he fell in love with travelling and what drove him to want to explore the world on a motorcycle. We started the discussion on his education and what degree he obtained. From there, he realised when he began working in front of a computer that this was a life he did not want to continue living. Elias talked to me about the decision he made to travel at the age of 23, and this was to travel across parts of Asia on a motorcycle. We spoke in detail about why he chose to travel this way and how he documented his journey. We spoke about some specifics, such as how he goes about funding his travels, how long he travels for, and what he gains from each experience. I also discussed what he would like to accomplish with his journeys once he has completed his goals travelling on a motorcycle, whether he would like recognition worldwide. I also asked whether he would want to continue travelling on a bike as he gets older. Elias spoke to me about having written many articles and books. You can purchase his books from his website. I discussed what he likes to do outside of his travels and his relationship status. It was great to get to know Elias. A very unique way of travelling. Jules Hatfield and Christine Williams spoke to me about how they started a successful blog, Don't forget to move, a podcast, Not So Bon Voyage together, and evolved into brilliant entrepreneurs. Jules is from Melbourne, Australia, and Christine is from San Fransisco, California, USA. They both now live in San Fransisco. I asked them where their initial love for travelling started and how that led them to the lives they have now. We discussed how they first met. They stumbled across one another in Peru, South America. They were both travelling solo and connected with a local organisation to help people after a big earthquake in the country. They both said the relationship escalated very fast, and ever since then, they got married and have now travelled all around the world together. We discussed what it takes to start a blog and what it takes to keep it thriving. We also talked about how a digital nomad's life could be a norm in the future with how everyone has worked remotely during 2020. I spoke to them both about their successful podcast and why they decided to talk about travel mishaps. They felt as though it was an area that would be more of an interest for listeners and something that isn't covered in other podcasts. They both spoke to me about some of their adventures. We also talked about what the future may hold for them with aspirations and goals. It was great to have them on the show. They are both down to earth individuals with a great sense of humour. Katherine spoke to me Live on the 21st of September 2020 on my Instagram about how she started off her writing career, and how she became successful within a couple of years. I discussed where the initial love for travel started with Katherine, and I spoke to her about some of her transformative travel experiences. Katherine used to be based in New York but moved across to Wyoming during the lockdown. She does state it was temporary. Even though she couldn't travel internationally after March 2020, Katherine travelled across the State on road trips. She spoke to me about how her life was completely different before she started writing about travel. She worked in advertising and knew it wasn't a career path she wanted to continue in. Katherine told me that she started off being a high school reporter, which is where her passion for journalism came from. Katherine talked to me about how you can start writing about anything and everything, whether about fashion, politics etc. and then eventually falling into a topic you want to write about. It's about building that writing portfolio in her eyes. Katherine also discussed with me the need to write objectively as well. She explained that many travel blogs are too subjective, and many bloggers need to start thinking about writing objectively as they can influence people worldwide. She clarifies that there isn't much policing in the blogging industry, leading to one-sided views. Katherine has had her work published in major publications such as Forbes and Tripsavvy. When it comes to travelling, she has been to all four corners of the world. It has been non-stop for the last few years for her. Katherine plans to travel more when the world opens up again. When she isn't writing or travelling, Katherine loves to socialise with her friends and family. Katherine also loves to read a good book. I thoroughly enjoyed my talk with Katherine. Stephanie and I spoke about her life and career up to the present day. Stephanie worked as a television reporter for nearly a decade covering the news and being a weekend anchor until she decided to leave the role in September 2020. We spoke about where her initial love for travel came from. Stephanie became fluent in Spanish and then went on to live in the Dominican Republic and Colombia. She also lived in Colombia while participating in a Fulbright Programme. We spoke about her book 'Blacktrekking-My journey living in Latin America,' a memoir of her journey in Latin America, and why it was important to share her story. Stephanie spoke to me about her blog, Blacktrekking. Her aim is to share family travelling experiences, and motherly tips. She also talked about the importance of wanting to highlight destinations that focus on Black History and Culture. We spoke about some specific trips of hers on this. She is also looking to perhaps write a children's book to educate them about Black History on subjects that aren't covered in school. Stephanie is married, and her son was born in June. We discussed some of her hobbies, which include Salsa Dancing and working out in the gym. It was a pleasure talking to Stephanie. I wish her the best of luck on her blog, and I look forward to seeing what she does next. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/IdwyvhRPRik). I had the honour and privilege to sit down and talk to, Ryan Pyle. Ryan and I had a comprehensive chat about his life and career up to the present date. Ryan spoke to me about how he initially fell in love with travelling. He told me that his mother was a travel agent, and his household always had magazines such as National Geographic, which got him curious about travelling at a young age. Ryan spoke to me about going off to university and studying International politics at the University of Toronto. His idea of studying this subject was a way of maybe working abroad and also gave him an interest in other countries. He also played basketball at a pretty high level whilst he was at university and did look at becoming a pro. During his second year in university, he told me that he had a slot on a Thursday at 2pm that he had to take a class to have a Friday off to play basketball, and he decided to take, Introduction to Modern China. That led to Ryan's interest in China. After getting his degree, and not making it as a basketball player, he decided he didn't want to hang around Toronto and see how his life played out and went to China on a 90-day trip. When he returned home, he decided that it was a place for him to go and live. This is where Ryan got into writing and photography and pursued a journalism career. During his time in the news media, he got his work published in some well-known publications, including the New York Times. He got mentored by Howard W. French of all people. When the 2008 financial crash happened, Ryan spoke to me about his transition from news media to television. He talked about it taking some time, and had to self-fund a few expeditions, but he eventually started working with the BBC, Discovery Channel and Amazon Prime. His shows include Expedition Asia, Extreme Treks and Tough Rides. We spoke about one of his journeys where he broke the Guinness World record for the longest motorcycle ride. Ryan has won numerous awards for his work in journalism and television. Most recently, his accolades have been at the Asian Acadamy Awards, which is the equivalent of the Emmy or the Bafta awards for his tv work. We also spoke about the future of television travel documentary, and what Ryan may have to do to continue his television career. Interestingly, we discussed how Ryan started shows on Instagram Live and then started a podcast. He said as a storyteller; he wanted to continue telling stories whilst in lockdown in 2020 and starting his shows online, was a way of doing this. As he couldn't get back to his home in Dubai, Ryan did all of this in Istanbul. The most memorable part of this was when he saved a kitten, becoming his pet cat, Whisky. Ryan also spoke to me about his public speaking and how he started that and why he loves doing it. He talked about doing a mix of paid and free talks. He is also an author, and has books such as, 'India Ride: Two Brothers, Two Motorcycles, One Incredible Adventure: Two Brothers, Two Motorcycles, an Incredible Adventure,' and the book which he recommends people pick up if you are going to read about him, 'Sacred Mountains of China: An Epic Human-Powered Adventure Through a Remote World.' As Ryan made his name in photography, I had to ask him about the state of photography today. He had an interesting viewpoint. We also talked about relationships, and whether it's possible to have one when you have a lifestyle like Ryan. It was a joy talking to Ryan. He was a true gentleman, and I can see why he has achieved so much in his career. I hope people watching this interview get inspired, and I look forward to seeing the next chapter on his journey. Mike and I sat down and talked about the year, which was 2020. We discussed what took place for Mike on a creative level, his journey in the travel space and what he has installed for 2021. Mike and I met through a panel we were both involved in at the end of 2020. During that discussion, we spoke about the importance of diverse storytelling within the travel industry. During our one to one talk, we went in-depth about where Mike's love for travel came from, and what led him to form 'Travel with Meaning.' Living in Los Angeles, Mike was in the entertainment industry as a talent agent representing many different people in the sector. Mike came to a crossroads and realised that he wanted to get away from the industry and so he did. In his own words, he went on a walkabout and travelled to Australia to find his meaning in life. Since then, he hasn't looked back. We went into detail about the mindset Mike now has, and he believes that travel will have an impact on everyone's lives and careers in some way, shape or form. When he was on his journey travelling, he said he interviewed 80 people asking them the same three questions. He had that curiosity, and his passion for travelling, storytelling and community building led him to launch, Travel With Meaning in 2017. He talks to me about the fact that creating Travel Talk Live was a way to bring like-minded travellers to recreate the feelings that he experienced on the road. From these talks, his idea is to build an authentic community to inspire and encourage others to travel. In the spring of 2019, he launched the Travel With Meaning Podcast to continue to grow his community. Mike also spoke to me about what's installed for 2021. In general, he said most people would be aiming to break out as they would have been exhausted from just being stuck at home. We also spoke about some of his memorable experiences and what he likes to do outside of his work and travel. I also talked to him about his relationship and the support he has from his partner. I thoroughly enjoyed my talk with Mike. There is a lot to admire about him. Taking the leap of faith and going on to doing something he now loves takes courage, and I applaud him for it. I look forward to seeing what else he does in the future, and I wish him the best of luck. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/R7r-hKWJ-7c). I spoke to Ravi Prabhu live on May 16th 2020 on my Instagram about his ambition to conquer every country in the world. Ravi spoke to me about his early life in India before getting the opportunity to move to the United States of America. He talked to me about his education and his early desire to travel. We spoke about the travel industry and the impact the 2020 pandemic has had on the travel industry. We talked about what airlines, hotels and hostels may do going forward. We also discussed potentially carrying a certificate to travel. Similar to having a Yellow fever certificate to travel to certain parts of the world. Ravi talked to me about some of his exceptional experiences. As he has been to 186 countries, there are countless ones to choose from, but he did narrow it down to a couple of memorable ones. I asked Ravi whether he had plans to write a book about his journey. He said he has no plans for now. We did talk about the blogging world vs the vlogging world. Whether blogging has seen its shelf life, or whether both formats can merge. We also spoke about some of the friendships Ravi has made on the road. He talked to me about how difficult it is to keep in touch with so many. He also spoke to me about getting 500 plus messages a day due to the high volume of followers he has. He does state that it is impossible to message everyone back. We also discussed how he grew his following as he has two successful YouTube channels, Ravi Telugu Traveller & Soaring Eagle Trots. His Instagram isn't too shabby, either. Ravi discussed with me how he goes about funding his travels. This included whether he has had the opportunity of getting sponsored etc. We also discuss how he travels. Ravi isn't a backpacker as it's not the way he likes to travel, but has respect for those who travel that way. Ravi talked about his love of travelling back to India, as he states it's a country where you can discover so much every time you travel there. He spoke to me about what he has plans for in the future as he has only a handful of countries left to see. Ravi did say that he has seen 48 States in the U.S. as well. He has another passion which is to watch movies. He talked about his love for Indian films. I thoroughly enjoyed my talk with Ravi. Coming from Monterrey, Mexico, we discussed what it was like growing up in Mexico. We discussed her education and why photography was such a passion for her from an early age. Roberta discussed going to university and studying in England and France, of all places, to learn her trade. Roberta talked to me about graduating and making it into the field by freelancing at the beginning to build up a portfolio and moving across to New York in 2008 to pursue a one-year certificate programme at the International Center of Photography. Ever since then, she has lived in the city and lived her dream. What is it like to talk to someone who has conquered all 7 continents and not even turned 30 yet? Well, I got the chance to speak to Hope Weaver, someone who had embarked on a boat to Antarctica a day before her 27th birthday to complete this achievement. Hope is someone I travelled with all over Morocco back in March 2016, as we met on a group tour. Since then, we have remained friends, and I thought it was time she shared her remarkable journey in her life with the world. Hope and I discussed what it was like for her growing and where that initial love for travel came from. Growing up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where many Amish reside, she spoke to me about being questioned on why she was travelling as not many did from that part of the world. We spoke about when I first met her and how she was this fearless solo traveller looking to explore and learn about new cultures. Hope managed to conquer all 7 continents and to do it under 30. That alone is a feat not many people achieve in a lifetime, let alone under 30. Some of the biggest travellers and bloggers in the world haven't succeeded in doing so. You will find out whether this was a goal of hers and what was it really like to travel to Antarctica. Was it all worth it, and what did she learn from that experience? Hope spoke to me about trying out different food on the road and how she always looks forward to that part of her travels. We also spoke about her engagement and wanting a destination wedding-her thoughts on relationships, and perhaps why many people who travel are still single. She told me about some of her hobbies and what else she would like to conquer when travelling. It was a joy speaking to Hope and reminiscing at times. She is a courageous, ambitious and determined individual who seems to be heading to the moon with her mindset. I look forward to seeing the next chapter in her journey, and it was a delight having her on the show. You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/KH5JBfWThzs). I spoke to Natasha live on Instagram on the 22nd May 2020 about her life, travels, and whether you can find love whilst your love is travel. Natasha is a Flight Attendant, Freelance Travel Writer, aspiring Actress, and Author. She is also the founder of Single Passport, where her aim is to get singles who travel into a loving relationship. We spoke in-depth about why it has been difficult for some to find a companion whilst travelling during our talk. Whether we are overwhelmed by the thought of settling down and whether that would disrupt our one love, travelling. As we told each other our thoughts behind why we were both still single (at the time of the recording) there were some stories we had from viewers that gave us all hope if you love to travel. Overall from the topic of love, we both came to a conclusion that it can be done, with the right mindset and a bit of compromise. Natasha also spoke to me about some of her travel experiences and how it all started for her. We spoke about her conquering the 7 Wonders of the World like myself and what she took away from that journey. Natasha also talked to me about travelling with her dad. German came on my Instagram live on the 22nd of June 2020 to speak to me about his business, NananTravel. We also talked about Africa's beauty and why we should think about travelling there after getting back to some normality. I spoke to German about where his passion for travel started. I talked to him about his upbringing in Peru, and how he got started in modelling. You will find out his modelling took him around the world. After living in quite a few different countries worldwide, German eventually decided to leave Lima, Peru and move to Cape Town, South Africa, where he has lived since 2008. German spoke to me about how the business started, as it was a straightforward thing that got him thinking about how to create the company whilst he was helping out some of his friends. He saw a business and eventually started his agency four years ago. We spoke in-depth about the clients German has and where the majority of them are based. We also talked about where in Africa he tends to send people. His knowledge of a place is phenomenal due to one factor which makes him unique; he has travelled to these locations himself. We discussed some of German's favourite places to travel to. We also spoke about some of his favourite cuisines and reminisced about Peru as I have travelled there myself. I spoke to Alaa live on my Instagram on the 29th of September about his life journey and what took him to where he is now in Turkey. Alaa is a businessman and owns a restaurant in downtown San Fransisco called Elixiria. His business has featured in Hoodline and Timeout and has had a lot of great success. Unfortunately, it closed during the pandemic, and he does state he is unsure of the future. Alaa talked to me about being born in Jerusalem and moving across to America with his parents at two years old. He states he is from a Palestinian background and the reason why his parents moved across was to get a better life. When it comes to travelling, Alaa has been all over the world. He has also lived in numerous countries outside of the United States. Alaa does explain that when it comes to a transformative moment, that came when he first travelled outside of the United States, saying his upbringing as an American was in a bubble. He meant that his bubble got burst when he travelled to another country and realised there was more to life than the United States. Alaa goes on to explain to me that American culture is like pop culture. He said it sounds great at first, but after a while, it gets boring. This all stems from just travelling and getting a new perspective on life away from the American culture. One of the best things he experienced in his career was getting invited to a Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi, where Barack Obama gave the talk. He said there were very notable people in the room with him, and many of them spoke to him about the initial struggle. Whilst living in Turkey, Alaa has travelled all over the country several times. He said the country is an extraordinary place and there is still so much more to explore. He told me that he arrived with his wife, who was pregnant at the time, and their idea was to go across to Isreal to stay with family and get help with the baby's initial upbringing. Unfortunately, Alaa and his wife get separated, and his wife gave birth to their son, Omar, in Jerusalem, Isreal. You will find out that he still hasn't seen his son. Alaa does go into detail about why that is. He is in two minds whether he will go back to the United States and return to the life he had before. He states again that America isn't what is portrayed in the media in his own opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed my talk with Alaa. I found it educational and a bit of an eye-opener. I enjoyed meeting him in Istanbul later during my trip, and we have kept in touch ever since. I look forward to seeing what the next chapter in his life looks like. I had the pleasure of speaking to Ernest White II on June 8th, 2020, Live on my Instagram about Ernest's life, career, and the state of diversity within the travel industry.
