Welcome back to Home Base Nation! This is our sixth episode in a series where we talk with some of the folks at Home Base who wake up every day with the same mission in mind, regardless of their role at the Center of Excellence in the Navy Yard and beyond. Over the next several weeks, we will share the staff conversations I had with some of the hardworking professionals at Home Base who help treat the invisible wounds of veterans and military families. We have published 120 episodes since 2019. For this new season, we thought it would be a good idea to look back on some of the highlights of our conversations and select 20 episodes that resonated with veterans, service members, military families, and the civilians who support them. But first up, you'll hear from some of the folks at Home Base who wake up every day with the same mission in mind, no matter what they do at the Center of Excellence in the Navy Yard and beyond. For this episode, you will hear a brief conversation with Grace O'Halloran, a Speech Language Pathologist on the Brain Health Team at Home Base. A University of New Hampshire graduate, Grace earned her Master's in Speech-Language Pathology in 2023 at the MGH Institute of Health Professions.Following my conversation with Grace, you'll hear one of our first episodes on the show featuring Marine Veteran Kirstie Ennis. In her second deployment to Afghanistan in June 2012, Kirstie sustained polytraumatic injuries from a helicopter crash, including traumatic brain injury, facial and spine injuries, and leg trauma that eventually left her with an amputation above the knee. After being injured overseas, Kirstie went on to become a Paralympian snowboarder, a proud contestant at Prince Harry's 2016 Invictus Games, a Pat Tillman Awardee for Service, and a member of a Veteran team on a 1,000-mile trek across Great Britain with the organization Walking With The Wounded. She continues to push herself every day while giving back to others through mountaineering and world travel. Since 2016, Kirstie set out to climb the Seven Summits (the highest peaks on every continent) and has so far climbed six of them.In Honor of National Women Veterans Recognition Day on June 12th, we are thrilled to re-run this Episode with Kirstie.

Solo in the Death Zone: Brian Dickinson's Blind Descent from Everest This week's Team Never Quit guest is no stranger to adversity. Brian Dickinson, a former U.S. Navy Special Operations Aviation Rescue Swimmer and elite mountaineer, joins us to share the harrowing true story of his solo summit and descent of Mount Everest after being left without a guide—and without sight. After his Sherpa fell ill near the South Col, Brian pushed onward alone to the top of the world, only to be struck by sudden snow blindness on the way down. What followed was a seven-hour descent with no vision, no oxygen, and no margin for error. Brian holds the record for the highest solo blind descent and has completed the Seven Summits, conquering the tallest peaks on each continent. Before his mountaineering feats, Brian served six years in the U.S. Navy with the elite NSO (Naval Special Operations) community, deploying on high-risk rescue and combat missions in the Persian Gulf. Now the host of Calm in the Chaos, a podcast that highlights raw, untold rescue stories from America's unsung heroes, Brian brings the same courage, insight, and humility to this conversation. Whether you're a fan of extreme adventure, military resilience, or human endurance—you won't want to miss this one. In This Episode You Will Hear: • {Marcus] I'm a Charlie Sheen SEAL. (8:19) • It's weird when you go from jumping put of helicopters to something less interesting. (14:11) • You can't really plan for giving up in the death zone – 26,00 feet. But you can train for the things in your control. (18:07) • You can't acclimate to 26 [thousand feet]. You're slowly dying. Like if you cut your finger, it won't heal. There's not enough air. (23:23) • At Camp 3, this is where you see a straight up ice wall. If you fall, you're falling for a mile. (24:32) • When I got about a thousand feet above Camp 3, I had to anchor off to get some water. I had an oxygen mask and goggles, and I took my goggles off to put them around my wrist, and as I was getting my mask off to drink water, my foot slipped, I went to grab the rope, and my goggles slid off and 4they're just like… down. And you don't bring extra gear. (25:35) • There're over 300 bodies still on the mountain. (30:38) • You live and die by the decisions you make in life. (31:34) • When you climb any mountain at night, the sun is your first indication of hope. (37:33) • According to the Himalayan Database, I'm one of two people to ever have the summit to myself on a given day. (39:07) • Everything just went completely white. I went Snowblind. And I remember at that moment, dropping down, grabbing the rope, and assessing the situation thinking: I'm at the highest point in the world, I'm completely blind; no one's coming to get me. (41:07) • I just witnessed a miracle. It was like someone reached down and picked me up. An unexplained energy. The first thing I did was try the extra oxygen bottle and it started working, and I got 5 full beaths – reeling it in – and it burned. It felt like fire going through my veins. (48:02) • Everyone loves a survival story. They could care less about the survivor. (53:43) • That whole time, Jesus was walking alongside me. I felt that presence. With a mission to help men navigate mid-life challenges, Matt empowers his clients to define success, align their values with actions, and live unapologetically. Through 1:1 coaching, group programs, immersive retreats, and transformative climbing expeditions, Matt creates opportunities for growth, adventure, and community. His work is rooted in fostering clarity, boldness, and a life lived in alignment with personal values. Matt lives in a mountain town in Washington State with his two children and balances parenting with a full workload which includes coaching individual and groups, leading climbing expeditions both professionally and personally Matt Walker Vroom Vroom Veer Show Summary Matt's Balancing Act and Life Shifts Matt discusses his work as both a mountain guide and a psychologist, supporting men through major life transitions. He is excited about the balance in his calendar between traditional coaching and field work in the mountains. Matt mentions he has a new book coming out after a 10-year publishing hiatus. He also reflects on how his values and priorities have shifted with age, emphasizing the importance of embracing these changes rather than judging oneself based on past expectations. Skepticism and the Shaping of Belief Matt and Jeffery discuss their approaches to knowledge and belief. Jeffery describes himself as highly skeptical, avoiding absolute certainty and viewing most things on a spectrum of probability. Matt agrees with this perspective, sharing an example from a memoir that acknowledged multiple viewpoints of the same experience. They discuss the unreliability of memory and the impact of mentors and teachers in shaping their worldviews. Matt reflects on how early influences expanded his understanding of career possibilities beyond his suburban upbringing. Mountain Climbing and Post-Military Life Matt shares his experience of moving from Northern New Jersey to Washington State after high school, motivated by his desire to be in the mountains following an Outward Bound course. He became involved in the climbing community, joining a group of experienced climbers and participating in significant expeditions. Matt later pursued a degree in philosophy but ultimately worked as a full-time mountain guide, leading international expeditions including the Seven Summits. Jeffery, in contrast, completed a bachelor's degree in psychology using his GI Bill after retiring from the Air Force, but chose not to pursue a career in that field. Matt's Approach to Existential Crises Matt discusses his approach to helping clients who are experiencing existential crises. He explains that he combines his background in psychology with outdoor experiences, particularly mountain climbing, to create a more effective therapeutic environment. Matt emphasizes the importance of having a guide during these experiences, comparing it to psychedelic journeys with proper set and setting. He notes that the most powerful moments for clarity and transformation occur during the descent from a summit, before transitioning back to everyday life. Matt sees his role as a supportive guide rather than actively doing the work for his clients. Challenging Experiences and Personal Growth Matt and Jeffery discuss the transformative power of challenging experiences, particularly in the context of personal growth and self-awareness. They explore how these experiences can lead to clarity, alignment between values and actions, and a sense of awakening. Jeffery shares his recent experience with a meditation app called "Way App," which he finds more effective than typical meditation apps due to its foundation in authentic Zen practices. They both agree that consistent, thoughtful practice can lead to gradual but meaningful increases in awareness and personal growth.

We haven't chatted with anyone in Nepal for a couple of weeks, so we thought we'd go back there with Len Forkas, who is heading to Mt. Everest to cap bagging all of the Seven Summits – the tallest peaks on all seven continents. This achievement also brings him a step closer to completing the coveted Explorers' Grand Slam, which includes the Seven Summits and trekking the last degree of latitude to the North and South Poles. He began his quest in 2013 summitting Kilimanjaro after accomplishing endurance feats like biking the Race Across America. Len does all of this to support a charity he founded called Hopecam, which does amazing work connecting cancer-afflicted kids to their schools and classmates. It was spurred after his own son Matt was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 9, and aside from the daunting treatments, Matt endured the challenge of isolation from his friends. Back in 2002, there was no Facetime or Skype, so Len arranged for a video connection between Matt and his class, and Len noticed what a sea change that was for Matt's overall outlook, as well as how much it benefitted his classmates to interact with him and help demystify cancer to them. This led to the birth of Hopecam, which began connecting 50 hospitalized kids and led to partnering with St. Jude's Children's Hospital and eventually affiliating with 180 hospitals and helping 1000 inspiring kids at a time. A majority of these kids come from Title 1 schools and whose families often can't afford Internet service. Len has a personal connection with many of these kids, and for this Everest project, he is paired up with a fifth-grader in Louisiana. In this chat, Len talks about how teamwork plays roles in accomplishing both his projects as well as in Hopecam's important mission for which he is aiming to raise $1,000,000. You'll also hear about his many other extreme adventures and the preparations for them and about a couple of harrowing episodes he had where divine intervention may have saved his life so he could continue his mission. Len is one of the nicest people with whom I've had the pleasure to chat, and this riveting episode is filled with so many great life lessons about humility, teamwork, finding purpose, and listening to and learning from others. He also shares great lessons he's learned about uniting people to work toward common goals in his book, What Spins the Wheel.  Len Forkaslenforkas.comSupport Hopecam today at hopecam.orgInstagram @lenforkasjrLinkedIn and X Len ForkasHis books What Spins the Wheel and Cold Hard Truth are available on AmazonBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @we_are_superman_podcastYouTube We Are Superman PodcastSubscribe to the We Are Superman Newsletter!https://mailchi.mp/dab62cfc01f8/newsletter-signupSubscribe to our Substack for my archive of articles of coaching tips developed from my more than three decades of experience, wild and funny stories from my long coaching career, the wit and wisdom of David, and highlights of some of the best WASP episodes from the past that I feel are worthwhile giving another listen.Search either We Are Superman Podcast or @billstahl8

After a 30 hour flight to Kathmandu, Len Forkas, joins The Courageous Podcast before his daunting task of climbing Mount Everest to help raise awareness and funds for kids battling cancer. Len is the Founder of Milestone Towers, a Seven‑Summits contender, and Chairman of the foundation, Hopecam.  In his conversation with Ryan, Len traces the moment his eight‑year‑old son asked, “Am I going to die?” and how that question sparked a mission now connecting 5,500+ children with cancer to their classmates in every U.S. state.  He breaks down the mindset that powers 3,000‑mile bike races, South‑Pole ski treks, and this month's Everest attempt. He reminds us that while he can choose to turn back on his journey on Everest, the kids with cancer don't have that option  Along the way he reveals why the true summit isn't a ridgeline at 29,000 feet but a kitchen table stacked with blueberry pancakes for a daughter who once called him out for training too much.

I Respectfully Disagree   In this episode of Richer Soul, we welcome Justin Jones-Fosu, an energetic business speaker, social entrepreneur, and workplace researcher. Justin is the founder and CEO of Work. Meaningful., where he helps organizations create a culture of purpose-driven work. He is also a prolific author, with books like Your WHY Matters NOW and The Inclusive Mindset. Through his unique life experiences, including growing up with contrasting financial influences and conquering one of the Seven Summits, Justin brings valuable insights on navigating challenges, finding purpose, and building a meaningful life.   Key Takeaways:  The Power of Purpose in Work and Life. Justin emphasizes the importance of finding purpose in what you do. Whether in the corporate world or as an entrepreneur, aligning your work with your values leads to fulfillment and long-term success. Overcoming Financial Trauma and Mindset Shifts. Growing up in a financially unstable household shaped Justin's early beliefs about money. Despite his father being a world-renowned economist, he had to unlearn negative financial habits and create a healthier relationship with money. Embracing Diversity in Experiences and Perspectives. Justin's childhood was enriched by cultural exposure through his mother, a military veteran. From hosting exchange students to attending diverse cultural festivals, he learned the value of seeing the world from different perspectives. Breaking Through Self-Limiting Beliefs. Through his journey of entrepreneurship and personal growth, Justin discovered how internalized beliefs—often inherited from childhood—can hold people back. He encourages listeners to challenge their mental blocks and step into a more empowered mindset.   Money Learning: Justin's financial upbringing was a mix of struggle and contrast. His mother worked tirelessly to provide, often avoiding opening bills out of financial stress. Meanwhile, his father and half-brothers lived a different reality, with financial privileges Justin didn't experience firsthand. This stark contrast shaped his financial mindset, initially leading to avoidance behaviors around money. Over time, he worked to break these patterns and adopt a more conscious, proactive approach to financial well-being.   Guest Bio: Justin Jones-Fosu is a dynamic speaker, entrepreneur, and author dedicated to helping individuals and organizations create meaningful work cultures. As the CEO of Work. Meaningful., he has delivered over 50 keynote speeches annually on purpose-driven leadership and workplace inclusion. His books, including Your WHY Matters NOW and I Respectfully Disagree, equip readers with tools to build deeper connections in today's fragmented world. An adventurer at heart, Justin recently conquered one of the Seven Summits, proving his belief in pushing past limits to achieve greatness.   Key Discussion Points: Justin's Early Life and Financial Lessons: Raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly to provide. Learned financial discipline from observing struggles rather than direct education. Contrasted experiences with his father, a globally recognized economist. The Journey to Finding Purpose: How work became more meaningful when he aligned it with his core values. The importance of defining personal and professional purpose. Cultural Exposure and Personal Growth: Grew up experiencing diverse cultural festivals and international perspectives. The impact of his mother's military background on his worldview. Mindset Shifts and Breaking Self-Limiting Beliefs: Addressing financial avoidance behaviors inherited from childhood. Learning to create healthy money habits and redefine his financial future. Challenges and Triumphs in Entrepreneurship: Transitioning from corporate work to building a business around purpose. Overcoming obstacles and embracing the discomfort of growth.   Conclusion: Justin Jones-Fosu's story is a testament to resilience, purpose, and self-discovery. His journey from financial struggles to becoming a sought-after speaker and entrepreneur underscores the power of mindset shifts and intentional growth. Whether you are looking to redefine your relationship with money, find deeper meaning in your work, or break through limiting beliefs, Justin's insights provide valuable guidance.   Links: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/iworkmeaningful/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/iworkmeaningful IG: https://www.instagram.com/iworkmeaningful/ Website: https://workmeaningful.com/   Watch the full episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@richersoul Richer Soul Life Beyond Money. Alan Briggs sits down with Scott Cutlan—business leader, mountaineer, and author of Unreasonable: Seven Impactful Lessons Discovered Climbing the Seven Summits. Scott shares his journey from corporate executive to scaling the highest peaks in the world, and the deep leadership insights he uncovered along the way. They explore purpose, alignment, resilience, and the importance of saying "no" to stay focused on what truly matters. 1. The Call to Adventure Scott was led by faith to leave his high-powered corporate job, climb the Seven Summits, start a nonprofit, and self-fund it—all without any prior mountaineering experience. The initial challenge of stepping into the unknown and trusting the process. 2. Leadership & Mountain Analogies Scott describes himself as a “mountain guide for the leadership journey,” drawing parallels between climbing and business leadership. Alignment is key—leaders must be clear on their purpose to make the right decisions. 3. The “More” Concept Many people misunderstand "more" as adding complexity. Instead, Scott defines "more" as expansion that comes through alignment with purpose. Purpose = The best of what you have for others. Fulfillment = The result of choosing to live in that purpose. 4. Saying No to Say Yes Leaders face decision fatigue—executives make an estimated 40,000 decisions daily. Scott is shifting from 30+ speaking engagements a year to only six highly intentional ones. “The power of yes is in alignment, not just saying yes.” 5. Resilience & The Why That Keeps You Moving Scott's harrowing Everest solo climb: Facing brutal conditions on the North side, alone, at extreme altitude. The moment of exhaustion when he almost sat down—knowing that sitting meant death. The significance of the colored band on his wrist, representing his “why.” 6. Isolation vs. Community Isolation is one of the greatest threats to leaders. The importance of linking arms with others for accountability, support, and shared growth. 7. The 3 Types of Responses You'll Get When Pursuing Your Purpose Eye Rolls: Dismissive people who don't understand. Blank Stares: Those who aren't ready to process it. Tell Me Mores: The people who are curious, hungry, and ready to engage—Scott's focus. 8. Business, Money, and Alignment Money can be a distraction or a tool—it must be aligned with purpose. Scott shares how he self-funded his mission, trusting that provision would come. 9. The Most Important Pillar from His Book Right Now: Death Not physical death, but dying to oneself daily. Taking time to pause, realign, and ensure decisions reflect core values, not external pressures. While his teenage classmates were getting ready for school, then-13-year-old Sean Swarner was watching the water rise in the shower, his hair clogging the drain. His first cancer diagnosis—and the subsequent treatment regimen—took an immense toll on his self-image and well-being. That morning in the shower, he remembers, all of the fear and despair overcame him: Sean collapsed to his knees, tears and tap water streaming down his face. “I remember looking at myself in the mirror,” he recalls, “and I couldn't even recognize who was looking back.” After a year of treatment, Sean reached remission. But then, two years later—during a follow-up with his oncologist—Sean and his parents received shocking news. His doctor had found a second cancer: an Askin sarcoma, a rare and aggressive tumor in his chest that eventually left him with only one functioning lung. Worse still, Sean's chances of survival appeared slim. In the years to follow, Sean became the first cancer survivor to summit Mount Everest, before eventually completing each of the world's Seven Summits (the highest mountains on each of the seven continents). That includes three attempts on Mount Denali, the tallest mountain in North America and one of the world's most dangerous—ultimately reaching the summit in 2017. “In my mind,” Sean recalls, “I kind of jokingly thought to myself, ‘If this fool who's had two cancers and has one lung can climb to the top of the world, that might inspire some people.'” In this episode of Your Stories, Sean joins host Dr. Mark Lewis to discuss how conquering cancer shaped his life and set him on a course to complete some of the world's most prized adventuring achievements. He also talks candidly about the motivations behind these achievements and his hope that others will look at his accomplishments and take away a simple message: If a guy with one lung can do it, so can you.

Together, they discuss the importance of holding space for dual truths—how something can be both painful and beautiful—and finding a personal “recipe” for mental health that embraces both grit and compassion. From the role of medication in his recovery to the value of leaning on others, Cason highlights the need for vulnerability and emotional intimacy, especially among men. Tune in as Cason, Claire, and Howard tackle what it means to embrace the messy, human side of mental health while striving for growth, balance, and connection. In this episode, Jo Bradshaw shares her extraordinary journey from being a height-fearing, comfort-loving business advisor to becoming a world adventurer and mountaineer. She reflects on her early life with outdoorsy parents and the unexpected transition from working with horses to a life filled with adventure. Jo has completed six of the Seven Summits, led numerous expeditions, and survived the devastating 2015 earthquake in Nepal while climbing Everest. Jo highlights the lessons she's learned, including how bullying in her youth shaped her resilience, the importance of overcoming psychological challenges in extreme environments, and the power of saying "yes" to opportunities that push boundaries. She also discusses the significance of kindness, leadership, and authenticity, both in her personal life and professional adventures. Background & Early Life: Grew up in Cambridgeshire in an outdoorsy family, spending more time on the water than in the mountains. Faced bullying during boarding school, an experience that shaped her resilience. Initially planned a career working with horses, even spending time in New Zealand, before moving into retail and eventually embarking on a life of adventure. Transition to Adventure: Jo's first step into adventure was a terrifying parachute jump, which sparked her passion for exploration. Encouraged by a friend to participate in a cycle trip in Peru, which marked the beginning of her adventure career. Mountaineering & Expeditions: Successfully completed six of the Seven Summits, including Everest, Kilimanjaro, and Aconcagua. Survived the 2015 earthquake on Everest, losing several team members. Shared insights into the mental and physical challenges of high-altitude expeditions, and how these experiences helped her grow as a person. Overcoming Fear & Self-Doubt: Discussed how she overcame self-doubt, particularly during the early stages of her career when others made her feel incapable. Jo pushed herself through challenging expeditions to prove her resilience. Encouraged listeners to "feel the fear and do it anyway," stressing that self-confidence is key to achieving success. 2015 Earthquake Experience: Recounted her harrowing experience of being at Camp One on Everest during the 2015 Nepal earthquake, describing the devastation at base camp and the emotional aftermath of the disaster. In this inspiring episode, Jo Bradshaw reflects on the power of kindness, both to others and to oneself, and how it shapes our personal and professional lives. Jo shares her journey from feeling disconnected in school to becoming a guide who empowers others to climb their own “Everests.” She emphasizes the importance of making conscious choices, building habits, and giving people the agency to succeed. Key Themes: Kindness as a Choice Jo talks about kindness as a deliberate action, extending to interactions with both people and animals. She highlights how empathy and connection are central to this practice. A student's reflection on attitude and choice reaffirmed her belief that kindness is a habit—one that requires regular practice, like any other. Kindness in Leadership In her work with students and as an expedition guide, Jo underscores the significance of kindness in leadership. Her aim is not to be remembered for getting clients to the summit, but for empowering them to reach their goals independently, with her support providing them with the tools and agency to succeed. Overcoming Past Challenges Jo reflects on her past experiences of bullying and how she overcame defensive, reactive behaviours. She encourages listeners not to let their past define them, urging them to surround themselves with positive influences and to move forward as victors, not victims. Self-Kindness and Self-Talk Jo discusses her journey towards self-kindness, focusing on reframing her inner dialogue. Just as she encourages and supports others, she realised the importance of offering herself that same level of compassion. She believes that self-kindness is foundational; without it, it's difficult to fully extend kindness to others. The Power of Champions Jo highlights the crucial role a “champion” played in her life—someone who believed in her and motivated her to stop making excuses. Now, she strives to be that champion for others, inspiring them to take the first step towards achieving their ambitions, whether in mountaineering or life. Resources: Website -

A driven athlete and Electrolit ambassador, Álvarez is on the verge of completing an unprecedented climbing feat: becoming the first woman to conquer both the "Seven Summits" challenge and all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters. What makes Álvarez's story even more compelling is her late start in the sport. Growing up in Aguascalientes, Mexico, far from the high mountains she now calls home, she never envisioned a future in mountaineering. It wasn't until the age of 30 that she discovered her passion for climbing—a revelation that would lead her to some of the world's most formidable peaks. Since then, her ascent has been nothing short of meteoric. In 2019, Álvarez set the Guinness World Record for the fastest ascent by a woman of the three highest mountains—Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga—using supplementary oxygen. This monumental achievement only scratched the surface of her potential, as she became the first Latin American woman to summit K2, the notoriously treacherous second-highest mountain on Earth. Most recently, Álvarez summited Denali, the highest peak in North America, in a mere 19 days—a mountain where fewer than 52% of climbers reach the top. Now, she has just one more peak to go: Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia. Though the climb itself takes only a day, Álvarez explains that the real challenge lies in the arduous journey to the base of the remote mountain. Once she conquers this final summit, she will secure her place in the record books forever.Beyond the physical demands of her pursuit, Álvarez emphasizes the power of mental resilience. Her disciplined training regimen includes running, cycling, and mountain biking, ensuring that both body and mind are honed for the trials ahead. As Álvarez continues to climb, she shares her story with the world in the hopes of inspiring others to chase their own lofty dreams. Her tenacity and focus are contagious, and as she prepares for her final climb, the entire mountaineering community—and beyond—waits with bated breath. By this fall, she aims to claim the title of the first woman to have completed the "Seven Summits" and all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters. It's a goal within reach, and Álvarez is more determined than ever to achieve it.Don't miss this awe-inspiring conversation with a true trailblazer. Viridiana Álvarez's story is a testament to what can be accomplished when passion meets perseverance, and her journey is far from over. One major trait for many great leaders is the ability to not just persevere through hard times, but create an opportunity during challenging times. Eric Kapitulik really, really knows something about that. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he was a four year varsity player in D1 Lacrosse, he then went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a Platoon Commander in the elite 1st Force Reconnaissance Division.  In 1999 he suffered a tremendous tragedy, when during a routine training exercise his squad's helicopter crashed where six of his fellow Marines perished. After recovering both physically and emotionally from the crash, Eric focused solely on the well being of his fallen comrades families: In an effort to raise money for a college scholarship fund set up for the children of his deceased teammates, Eric completed eight Ironman Triathlons, The Canadian Death Race Ultra Marathon, The Eco Challenge, and The American Birkebeiner Ski Marathon, and as a side quest, climbed five of the Seven Summits. On top of all this Eric enrolled in the University of Chicago after he left the Marines, and graduated with his MBA in 2005. Shortly after that in 2008 he founded The Program. The Program pulls from his experience in the Marines, and aims to provide organizations with the best personal, leadership, and culture development services worldwide.  We caught up with Eric to talk about his philosophy on developing a high performing team through grit, communication, and setting standards. We also chatted about his new book The Program: Lessons from Elite Military Units for Creating and Sustaining High Performance Leaders and Teams, which details the lessons learned from his time in the Marines and as an entrepreneur.  This is another episode you're not going to want to miss, so with that…let's bring it in!
