Saturday Night Live has concluded its most recent seasons on both sides of the pond! Both SNL US and UK broadcast their finales on May 16, which means it's time to find out what the best musical performances were on both shows. On April 18, 1981, I saw my very first all-day stadium show, billed the Rock Super Bowl, featuring Heart, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Firefall, and UFO. Super Bowl 60 was held on February 8, featuring a halftime show by Latin superstar Bad Bunny (with special guests Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin), and a pre-game performance by neo-punks Green Day. But in reaction against this, there was a second, independant "All American" halftime show featuring Kid Rock, Gabby Barrett, Lee Brice, and Brantley Gilbert. Both shows had their controversies and both are products of our current political environment. We talk about both of these, plus dive into the history of Super Bowl halftime shows and talk about some of our favorite past performances.
