The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry
Ever argued over what makes a voice truly unique? We go all-in on that question and discover why “unmistakable” beats “perfect” almost every time. From Cher and Sinatra to Tom Waits, Stevie Nicks, and Bob Dylan, we debate tone, phrasing, range, and the magic test: can you spot them in one note?We kick off with a left-field warm-up on Texas Roadhouse—founder geography, 34-degree cutting rooms, 36-degree beer, fresh-daily bread, and how grassroots roll drops double as smart local marketing. Then it's a tight country news sweep: Ella Langley's triple-chart moment, Jason Aldean's milestone perspective against legacy greats, the Country Music Hall of Fame's American Currents signal, the Braves Country Fest lineup, new drops from Luke Combs to Charlie Crockett, a classic country tour package, and a Lee Brice single stirring up “country nowadays” debate. The throughline is clear: country's center is widening and listeners are picking winners across lanes. Our chart check balances mainstream and indie, spotlighting why a hold at number three means something different than a quick climb to one, and how pop-country crossovers, storytelling, and rock edges share the same field. Then a rapid-fire trivia duel (rock and country) transforms fun facts into a map of genre evolution—Zeppelin's first name, Master of Puppets in 1986, who ripped the Beat It solo, Opry induction stats, Chris Gaines, and more. The mailbag brings the sharpest industry insights. Can an artist be “outlaw” with label money? What's smarter today: 20-track albums or a disciplined singles drip? Is vinyl a real revenue lane or a nostalgia-forward merch play? Who owns the masters when singers go solo—and what can they do about it? We unpack strategy, contracts, and fan behavior without the fluff.Episode LinksVonray: https://jayfranze.com/episode1/Jason Hale: https://jayfranze.com/episode55/Kyle Fields: https://jayfranze.com/episode79/Lucy Becker: https://jayfranze.com/episode86/Mark Badolato: https://jayfranze.com/episode140/Send a text Support the showLinks Jay Franze: https://jayfranze.com/ JFS Country Countdown: https://jayfranze.com/countdown/ Contact Contact: https://jayfranze.com/contact/ Socials Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayfranze TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jayfranze X: https://x.com/jayfranze YouTube: https://youtube.com/@jayfranze Services Services: https://jayfranze.com/services/ Books Books: https://jayfranze.com/books/ Merchandise Merchandise: https://jayfranze.com/merchandise/ Support Support: https://jayfranze.com/support/ Sponsor the Show: https://jayfranze.com/sponsor/

The Super Bowl is over… the snacks are gone… and America is waking up with the world's biggest Super Bowl hangover.
In this unfiltered episode of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards dives into the aftermath of a lackluster Super Bowl, where the Seattle Seahawks dominated the New England Patriots 29-13. Clay breaks down the game's lowlights, standout performances like Sam Darnold's turnover-free run, and the MVP nod to defensive star Uchenna Nwosu. The real fireworks? The dueling halftime shows: Bad Bunny's divisive, colorful spectacle drawing criticism for being "woke" and disjointed, versus Turning Point USA's patriotic alternative featuring Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett—pulling in massive views and sparking debates on cultural divides. Clay also pays heartfelt tribute to Brad Arnold, the legendary frontman of Three Doors Down, who passed away after a battle with cancer. Sharing personal stories from his encounters with the band, Clay reflects on Brad's humility, faith, and impact as Mississippi's rock icon—second only to Elvis in sales. Tributes from peers like Shinedown's Brent Smith highlight Brad's genuine spirit and lasting legacy. Plus, thoughts on the NFL's global push, cultural rifts in entertainment, and a call for unity amid division. Strap in for raw takes on sports, music, and the soul of America—no sugar added.
Hour #1 from Episode #1151: Super Gay Super Bowl Recap & Dueling Halftime Show Reviews In this fiery segment of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards pulls no punches on a "super gay" Super Bowl that bombed harder than the game itself—calling out the pastel rainbow logo, distracting colors, and woke vibes as a San Francisco treat shoved down America's throat. Clay recaps the snooze-fest matchup (Seahawks 29-13 over Patriots), stats, and MVP drama before diving into the real showdown: halftime battles. Bad Bunny's flop gets roasted for its disjointed maze of bushes, Spanish vibes, and global pandering—decent booties but zero familiarity or flow. On the flip side, TP USA's alternative with Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett crushed with 25M+ views, patriotic energy, and a heartfelt close, sparking talks on parallel cultures and NFL alienation. Raw rants on division, wokeness, and why the culture war matters—no sugar added.
This conversation dives into a fascinating — and uncomfortable — cultural moment: the announcement of a conservative, “all-American” halftime-style concert positioned as a response to the NFL's Super Bowl halftime show featuring Bad Bunny. The discussion was sparked by a strong article from Relevant Magazine, which examines how this event — backed by Turning Point USA and broadcast in part by Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) — isn't really a Christian alternative at all. Instead, it feels like a political counterprogramming effort, drawing a cultural line around who and what is considered “American enough.”The announced lineup raises real questions. Kid Rock is the headliner, with country artists like Lee Brice, Gabby Barrett, and Brantley Gilbert also on the bill. Whatever your feelings about the music, the bigger issue isn't genre — it's purpose. Kid Rock isn't a Christian artist, and his recent work and performances are openly political, profane, and divisive. That makes his presence on a long-standing Christian television network like TBN especially confusing. The Relevant article points out the contradiction clearly: this isn't about promoting faith-based art. It's about promoting conservative identity. The concert exists not to offer an alternative rooted in Christianity, but to respond directly — and defensively — to the choice of a Latin American artist headlining the NFL halftime show. That's where the discomfort sets in. When the reaction centers on nationality, identity, or political alignment rather than values, it starts to feel exclusionary instead of uplifting. The implication isn't subtle: some art is framed as un-American, and other art is elevated not because of its message, but because of who performs it.We also talk about how money inevitably plays a role. Controversy drives attention. Attention drives viewers. And viewers drive revenue. When faith, politics, and entertainment collide, financial incentives often shape decisions more than theology or mission. At the heart of this discussion is a simple question: is this really about Christianity — or is it about power, politics, and cultural signaling? And if the gospel gets sidelined in favor of partisan messaging, what's actually being promoted?Check out my work at https://www.cleveland.com/staff/cpugh/Support the podcast at https://linktr.ee/ChrisPughEdits#RelevantMagazine, #TurningPointUSA, #HalftimeShow, #CulturalCommentary, #FaithAndPolitics, #ChristianMedia, #KidRock, #MediaCriticism, #PopCultureTalk, #PoliticalCulture, #PodcastClip, #ReligionAndCulture, #AmericanIdentity, #ConservativeMedia, #EntertainmentNews, #FaithDiscussion, #CulturalDebate, #MediaAnalysis, #CurrentEvents, #PodcastConversation
Bad Bunny performs this year’s halftime show. At the same time, Turning Point USA is staging its own counter‑programmed “All‑American Halftime Show”, featuring Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett, positioned as a patriotic alternative celebrating “faith, family, and freedom.” With both shows airing simultaneously, viewers are split between mainstream spectacle and conservative cultural pushback. In this episode hosted by Alex Kopytko, the conversation unpacks how Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime performance — fresh off a Grammy win — became a cultural flashpoint that exposes two diverging Americas. The irony, as Kopytko points out, is that Bad Bunny is American, yet his success still triggered backlash, including Turning Point USA's rival “All-American Halftime Show” featuring artists like Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. The episode also takes aim at Trump's proposed “Arc de Trump,” a massive monument meant to project legacy and dominance, but so large and intrusive that critics argue it could violate zoning, historic preservation laws, and basic common sense.

You're listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for February 2, 2026. 0:30 When Donald Trump floats a bold idea, the reaction is instant—and explosive. We dive into the firestorm sparked by Trump’s comments about potentially nationalizing elections in states with broken systems, and the predictable cries of “dictator” and “authoritarian” that followed. But instead of panic, we slow things down and walk through the real constitutional, legal, and practical questions around election integrity, federal authority, and states’ rights. From Article I, Section 4, to the Equal Protection Clause, to the long-standing warnings in the Federalist Papers, this is a serious, clear-eyed discussion about voter fraud, mail-in ballots, and whether a nation that truly trusts its elections should be afraid to have this debate at all. 9:30 Plus, we cover the Top 3 Things You Need to Know. The US is once again in a partial government shutdown. Last week, Democrats in the US Senate refused to pass a series of remaining funding bills that had previously been passed by Republicans in the House. The CEO of the nonprofit Abundant Blessings in Los Angeles has been arrested for fraud.First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said Alexander Soofer took $23 million of tax payer money ment to benefit homeless people in southern California and spent it instead on a lavish lifestyle with expensive vacations, a Range Rover, and designer clothes. Texas Democrat Taylor Rehmet beat Republican Leigh Wambsganss in a special election over the weekend for a Texas State Senate Seat. 12:30 Get Prodovite Plus from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 13:00 Google search isn’t just getting worse by accident—it may be by design. We unpack explosive claims that Google deliberately degraded its search results to force users to search more often, rack up more ad views, and boost profits after hitting market saturation. Drawing on DOJ lawsuit memos, internal Google power struggles, and the rise of AI tools like ChatGPT and alternatives like DuckDuckGo, the conversation digs into Big Tech arrogance, antitrust concerns, and why users are quietly abandoning traditional search. From “don’t be evil” to profit-first search manipulation, this is a blunt look at how Google may have broken its own product—and why people are finally noticing. 16:00 Did the Grammys turn into a night of hypocrisy and virtue signaling? American Mamas Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson break down what they saw at the Grammy Awards—from nauseating fashion and celebrity grandstanding to public shots at ICE and the on-air bashing of Nicki Minaj. We dive into Hollywood double standards, cancel culture, and why Minaj’s faith, resilience, and clapback resonated with so many viewers. The Mamas also contrast Jelly Roll’s bold Christian testimony with what they describe as darker, more provocative performances, framing the night as a snapshot of a larger cultural and spiritual battle. It’s a no-holds-barred take on the Grammys, celebrity hypocrisy, and why standing firm in faith matters more than ever. If you'd like to ask our American Mamas a question, go to our website, AmericanGroundRadio.com/mamas and click on the Ask the Mamas button. 23:00 Free speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences. We break down why the First Amendment is not a shield for trespassing, disrupting worship, or breaking the law, dismantling celebrity outrage over so-called “journalistic rights” in the wake of Grammy-era protests. From Don Lemon to Hollywood activists, there is no special exemption from criminal law just because a camera is rolling. The conversation then pivots to California’s future with an in-depth interview featuring Steve Hilton, Republican candidate for governor. Hilton, an immigrant who fled the legacy of European socialism, lays out a stark indictment of one-party Democratic rule, soaring costs, crushing regulations, and mass exodus from the Golden State. Framing California as the epicenter of far-left extremism with national consequences, Hilton makes the case for restoring common sense, economic freedom, and constitutional order—warning that this race could determine not just California’s fate, but America’s direction. 32:00 Get TrimROX from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 32:30 How did the border spiral so far out of control? We break down how illegal immigration dropped to historic lows under Trump, only to explode under Biden as enforcement collapsed and asylum law was fundamentally twisted. The result wasn’t compassion, but chaos: a system flipped on its head, overwhelmed communities, and an asylum process so diluted that over 95% of claims ultimately fail. Abusing asylum doesn’t just undermine immigration law—it erodes the rights of Americans and destroys a tool meant to protect the truly persecuted. 35:30 A landmark $2 million jury verdict could reshape the national debate over so-called gender-affirming care for minors, and it's a Bright Spot. A New York jury—yes, in a deep blue state—held a doctor and psychiatrist accountable for approving and performing a double mastectomy on a 16-year-old girl who later detransitioned and says the irreversible procedure harmed her. This historic transgender medical malpractice verdict sends a clear message: doctors are not above accountability, especially when children and permanent surgeries are involved. After years of rushed evaluations, skipped safeguards, and the misuse of mental-health diagnoses to justify irreversible interventions, this ruling is a turning point—one that puts child protection, medical standards of care, and biological reality back at the center of the conversation. 40:00 Accountability suddenly got real. We react to reports that Bill and Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee after Congress threatened criminal contempt over their refusal to cooperate. At issue: what the Clintons know about the Epstein files—and why they initially declined to show up. 41:30 And we finish off today's show with a halftime show that will make you say, "Whoa!" Turning Point USA is taking on the Super Bowl halftime show—and doing it their own way. In response to the NFL’s choice of Bad Bunny, TPUSA announced an alternative “All-American Halftime Show” featuring Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. Over the course of his career, he has earned multiple No. 1 singles as both a performer and songwriter, including “A Woman Like You,” “I Drive Your Truck,” “Hard to Love,” “Rumor,” and “Memory I Don't Mess With.” As a writer, his songs have also been recorded by Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, and the Eli Young Band — whose version of “Crazy Girl” became a multi-week No. 1 hit. Brice has received multiple CMA and ACM Awards, and just released a new single “Killed The Man.” In this episode, we discuss Lee's journey from South Carolina to Nashville, his creative process as both a songwriter and artist, the stories behind some of his biggest hits, and many other stops along the way.--------------------------------------------------This episode is also sponsored by The Graphic Guitar Guys. Sunday we had an amazing opportunity to be a part of a special event with Marines at Camp Pendleton. Lee Brice came by to perform for a group of Marines in their families to help thank them for their service. Plus, he got a couple digs in on John while here.
Some songs take the long way home. Jeff Middleton joins us to map that winding route—Jersey kid to Nashville lifer—through a Warner deal with The Dirt Drifters, a thousand-dollar RV that literally went up in flames, and the four-year journey of Drowns The Whiskey from a bus write to a multi-week No. 1 with Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert. It's a story of grit, timing, and how a better demo can change fate.We dig into the changing economics of songwriting—how streaming thinned the middle class that once survived on album cuts—and what it takes to keep going when the money and momentum don't line up. Jeff shares how co-writing became a learned craft, why he now “lets the room be the room,” and how switching from road mode to writer mode saved his best work. He also pulls back the curtain on American Knights, co-written with Austin Jenckes and Mike Walker, and the unusual path that gave the song multiple lives with Morgan Wallen and Lee Brice. Then there's AI. Jeff doesn't flinch from it—he uses Suno for fast, pitch-ready demos and even built Song Script AI to help writers with better prompts. But he's clear-eyed about the line: algorithms look backward; great songs reach forward. The job is still to move people, to write from the heart, and to make music that feels undeniably human. If you're an aspiring songwriter, you'll get field-tested advice, sharp reality checks, and a reminder that authenticity isn't a brand; it's the work.If this conversation hit a nerve, follow the show, share it with a friend who writes, and leave a quick review so more people can find these stories. Your support helps us keep bringing songwriters and their hard-won lessons to the mic.

With standout releases like “4 Square Miles,” which reached #1 on The Country Network's Video Countdown, and “Semper Fi” featuring Trace Adkins, a tribute to active and former military that was named Independent Country Music Song of the Year, Warner has carved out a place of honor in the genre. His high-energy anthem “Welcome to the South,” even became a game-day staple at Tennessee Titans home games in Nissan Stadium. In 2022, Adam Warner released the acclaimed album What We're Known For, earning rave reviews from the industry. In 2024, Warner continued to deliver hits with a steady stream of new singles and milestone performances, including his debut appearances at both CMA Fest and the iconic Country Thunder festival in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin.2025 is already shaping up to be a milestone year for the Nashville authentic country music sensation, marked by the release of his most dynamic project yet. His 12-song album Where I'm Coming From, released in May, features streaming favorites like “The People”, a patriotic salute to everyday Americans, along with “The Farmer,” “Back When,” “Outlaws Baby,” and “Do Country” featuring Nate Kenyon. Grammy-winning artist Colbie Caillat sits down for an intimate conversation about the winding road from MySpace sensation to seasoned songwriter. With her trademark warmth and authenticity, she reveals how music was always coursing through her veins—singing at the top of her lungs every morning as a child and eventually being guided toward songwriting by her father's wisdom that it would "be more meaningful."The conversation takes us through the unexpected explosion of "Bubbly" that catapulted her career, to touring with John Mayer in 2009, to her transformative relationship with vulnerability on stage. "I was taught to try to be extroverted and don't let anyone know that you're nervous," Colbie shares, describing how writing "Try" became the turning point that freed her from hiding her true self. "I just tell the audience everything on stage now. It feels so nice."Colbie's upcoming album "This Time Around" (releasing September 26th) reimagines her greatest hits as duets with artists including Maren Morris, Hillary Scott, Walker Hayes, and Mitchell Tenpenny—many of whom had personal connections to her songs before the collaboration. "Mitchell was so cute because when I asked him to sing on 'Realize,' he's like 'that's my favorite song, I sang it in high school,'" she recalls with genuine delight. The album also features three new original songs, including one written with Lee Brice and another featuring Maddie & Tae.Whether discussing the creative process behind her Grammy-winning duet "Lucky" with Jason Mraz, her Christmas tour with best friend Gavin DeGraw, or the first song she ever wrote ("Someday," which she plans to release someday), Colbie's reflections on her journey offer wisdom for creators at any stage: "Trust yourself and have fun with it and really embrace who you are." Send us a textWhen Stephanie Rabus sits behind a microphone, magic happens. The Nashville country artist brings a rare authenticity to her music that cuts through the noise of formulaic radio hits. On this episode, Stephanie takes us behind the curtain of her musical journey, revealing the bittersweet path that shaped both her sound and her soul. Stephanie's story begins with family—specifically, joining her father's band "40 South" at age 21, where she injected contemporary hits into their oldies repertoire. This early experience planted seeds for her versatile musical approach that refuses to be boxed into just one sound. "I wanted to incorporate a little bit of all my influences," she explains, discussing her album "My Time Now" which seamlessly blends country, pop, blues, and rock elements while maintaining a cohesive heart. What makes Stephanie's music stand apart is its emotional depth. Her latest single "Pray You Down" emerged after profound personal losses—a close friend and band member, followed by her boyfriend's mother. The raw vulnerability in her performance transforms grief into something universally healing. "I know everyone can relate to just wishing they could talk to that person again," she shares, highlighting how music bridges our deepest human experiences. The conversation ventures into the realities of navigating music as an independent artist—the creative freedom balanced against financial challenges. Stephanie candidly discusses her collaborations with producers Justine Blazer and Brandon Heneger, opening for established artists like Lee Brice, and how childhood struggles with self-image and health issues ultimately strengthened her connection to music. "When I got to sing in school, people started complimenting me... it felt like there's something good here, something I can be confident in."Stephanie's father emerges as her unsung hero, championing her talent and handling behind-the-scenes work without compensation. His unwavering belief reflects what makes Stephanie's musical journey so compelling—authenticity always finds its audience. Whether you're a longtime country fan or just discovering her music, Stephanie Rabus delivers songs that feel like conversations with an old friend who truly understands your heart.LinksJay Franze: https://JayFranze.comStephanie Rabus: https://stephanierabus.net/ Support the show

Timmy McKeever, growing up in Huntingon, California McKeever started his musical journey at age nine after hearing his third grade teacher play worship songs after class. That intrigued young Timmy so much that he picked up a beginner guitar they had lying around the house and started playing around. From there it blossomed into writing music and playing shows. “My whole childhood I would play 2-3 shows during the weekend and go to school during the week. Write music after class. I just fell in love with it” he shares. McKeever got offered a development deal with Jim Cantino over at Droptine Records. McKeever just released his debut album “Devils and Angels”, and it's been getting good feedback. “Devils in Angels is an album that follows all the aspects of love from the beginning to the end and the aftermath. All the highs and lows and in betweens. It's very personal to me because the title track was the first song I ever wrote where I thought this is something really special to me.” He adds that he saved the song for the past two years because he wanted it as the title track of his debut project.
