[Produced by Hayne Griffin, this episode has Hayne, Robbie Madison and Joey Svendsen]Christmas Playlist   Apple Music I SpotifyFor the final episode of the year, Hayne rounds Joey and Robbie up for some Christmas talk, picking up where they left off last year in "Baby, It's Cold Outside (EP13),"  the last episode these three talked Christmas for an hour.   Today they talk whether or not the brilliance of the movie Four Christmases is all due to Vince Vaughn's humor.  They deliberate on whether Santa and elaborate gift-giving conflicts with the purity of the true Gospel story, and consider if the German tradition of “night of Saint Nick” may be a better option.  The three go in to a bit of the history of that tradition and reflect on Christmases past, how their parents implemented Santa into their childhood christmases and how they have walked this season out with their kids currently as parents themselves.  They also manage to fit in a conversation about a scientific study on guys' need for quality “guy-time.”E-mail the PWNA team here.Theme Song by Stoy Prioleau (aka: Riggy Roc): Apple MusicSend a text to the crew (we may read these on air)Be a Patron / Tip the Host (Venmo)

Joey presents a couple of jokes he saw on instagram, one was a story by a comedian about a family member with down syndrome, the other was a black male mocking the voices and facial expressions of white college, female students. Can comedy go too far?  Is every topic fair game to laugh at?  Is there a "right way" to make fun of anything?  Recently on a text feed amongst the podcast host team, Amy thought Hayne made a "fat joke" about her and even though he didn't, Amy shares why she wouldn't have objected.  Get The B-Sides Feed  Facebook Discussion Group here.E-mail the PWNA team here.Theme Song, other Music by Stoy Prioleau (aka: Riggy Roc): Apple MusicOther music: Mechanical River, Derek Minor. [Recorded on the evening of May 15 2024, in this episode:  Joey Svendsen, Hayne Griffin, Robbie Madison, Matt Oxley]With “Firefighter Hayne” present, the host crew discuss some pretty intense emergency situations that Hayne was also present at while working his vocation as a rescue worker. Somehow the discussion shifts to everyones' most fearful ways to die and whether the jumpers' acts on 9/11 were suicides, even though they were going to die regardless. Great fun!  But don't fear, the conversation gets a bit more light-hearted.  Given the recent Independence Day celebration and with a chaotic election season looming, christian nationalism, what Jesus would say to the American church, and whether “winning” has anything to do with the gospel, are some of the topics at hand on this one.  The catalyst of the conversation = Joey's son and some of his peers got a singing gig for a gathering of conservative Christians, their meeting centering around "winning the country back to God" and steering America's culture back in alignment with biblical values.  All of this got Joey thinking about Jesus winning by losing (His death and resurrection); and whether Christians should be concerned whatsoever with winning their country back to God.  Get The B-Sides Feed  Facebook Discussion Group here.E-mail the PWNA team here.Theme Song and Intro Music: Stoy Prioleau (aka: Riggy Rock): Apple MusicClosing and intro music by Derek Minor.Send a text to the crew (we may read these on air)Host and producer, Joey Svendsen also hosts and produces two other podcasts, coming more from the church world:Seacoast Church's Things You Won't Hear on Sunday Podcast &The Endurance Factor Podcast Other podcasts affiliated with co-hosts of PWNA:Jed's Church & Other DrugsMatt's The Great Deconstruction

Kevin Sweeney, author of, "The Making of a Mystic: My Journey With Mushrooms, My Life as a Pastor, and Why It's Okay for Everyone to Relax," didn't find God through religion.  His entry-way to faith wasn't wrought with the oppression many of us today are deconstructing from."Missionaries" have been thought of as those who are "taking the good news out, to set the captives free."  Pastor Kevin claims that his "missionary" was a handful of mushroom trips.  Now that his hallucinogenic experiences have pointed to the wholeness and freedom that can only come from an inherent union with an all-loving God, he has no need for more mushroom, but rather presses on to "live the life" they pointed toward.  To do otherwise, he sees as an act of betrayal to the sanctity of the revelation. At the top of the episode, co-hosts Matt Oxley and Robbie Madison reflect on episode one of the new Seacoast Church Podcast that Joey hosts.  Joey and Robbie talk about their relationship with Grammy-winning Brandon Lake and the unique vantage point of watching a friend's career explode.  Thanks for listening to The Pastor With No Answers (and friends) Podcast. The Bear With Community Enjoy these conversations?  Check out the digital community version of Pastor With No Answers Podcast,  only patrons have access to: Read about it HERE.  Watch a quick video HERE.   Join HERE.   These perks may change your life.Kevin Sweeney / Book / Instagram / Podcast Robbie Madison / Web / Instagram / MusicMatt Oxley / Web  / TwitterJoey Svendsen / Instagram / Twitter / Facebook / E-mailPodcast Socials// PWNA Discussion Facebook Group / YouTubeANNOUNCEMENTS / LINKS4 Week Experiencee-mail the PWNA team here. Dr. Latimore, author of “Unshakable Faith of Famous and Little Known African Americans from Colonial Times to the Present"  joins co-hosts Robbie Madison and Joey Svendsen to discuss the important outlooks and insights his book delivers on. In our diverse communities, churches, organizations and political spaces, [Black] history offers a window into the meaning of America  and the opportunity to reflect and marvel at, the strength of a people who refused to be destroyed and who fought and loved their way into our nation's story.  In this conversation, an unexpected theme is processed in real time and confirmed by Robbie and Dr. Latimore.  As African American men who value their blackness and maintain passion for  equality and social justice for all people,  the concept of blindly "cancelling a racist" for them seems lazy, rudimentary, and contrary to the Spirit of love represented by Jesus' words "Father, forgive,  for they know not.."  This new "cancelling trend" in our culture basically eliminates the chances of some thing Jesus seemed pretty adamant about all of us having: new beginnings and second chances, birthed by Grace.  The book also highlights a deeper, even heart-wrenching path of grace that many have painfully walked through.    Sometimes the unfairness of life (as it was for many of the saints discussed in his book) makes it is hard to keep going with soundness of mind, hope, and contentment in our hearts.  Dr. Latimore shares the stories of African Americans who found all three, even in the midst of grave injustices that personally destroyed the hopes of having what many of the more privileged were able to take for granted as "simple rights" and receiving "our due."  May our hearts be changed forever by the stories of our fellowmen and women who persevered while truly walking in the footsteps of Jesus.   A lesson for all mankind, especially in 2022.  Carey Latimore / Info / Facebook / Book Robbie Madison / Web / Instagram / Music Join us as a Patron. We've heard the stories, we've seen their signs, our jaws have dropped, our stomachs have turned. Why do they do what they do? How do they reconcile their actions with the teachings of Jesus? How do they claim to practice love? Back in August of 2020, Jack Hoey III and Joey talked to the leader of Westboro Baptist, Tim Phelps.   You can listen to that episode here (part 1).  This time around, we challenge some different practices of Westboro, including their clear “double-standard” use of scripture.  Jack  amongst other things, suggests that the folks at Westboro would greatly benefit from  approaching the bible with more humility.   Tim amongst other things, points at what he'd call clear doctrinal instructions in the bible that guide the day to day of his organization.  Joey is accompanied this time by Jack Hoey (the father) who is closer in age to Tim and quite likely as studied in scripture.  Unfortunately a bit of the same result, as far as finding substantial common ground but that wasn't a surprise.  This time though, Joey did manage to ask Tim if he liked him and Jack.Join us as a Patron! At the top of this episode, John Mark McMillan, Robbie Madison and Joey Svendsen give some examples of miracles in their lives they are convinced was the result of God’s supernatural hand. Oh, and Joey doesn’t know what the “WAP” is and John Mark and Robbie are uncomfortable to disclose this on the air. MAIN INTERVIEW: If Jesus is fully God, we should worship Him. If he is fully man, we’d be sinning to worship him. Fully man, fully God? How in the world does this work? There’s many verses pointing to the inferiority Jesus had with the Father (John 5:30, Matthew 24:36). But isn't Jesus fully God? In this episode, we slow down to process this with author of "The Way of the Kenotic Christ," Dr. Sam Young, and focus on the “fully man” part. What are the implications of Jesus “fully emptying himself" (Philippians 2:5-8)? Dr. Young has author copies of his book available for $16 apiece. If you email him (sam@missionchattanooga.org), you can arrange to pay by Venmo and Dr. Young will send you a copy of the book. Quantities at this price are limited. If you'd prefer to purchase the book online, please visit either the publisher's page or you can buy it from Amazon. There's two groups of people on both sides of the fence yelling from a posture of legalism; and it's killing us all. But people all share this common ground: we all need forgiveness because we all “know not what we're doing." Jay outlines the foundation all humans can stand on to offer love and forbearance to everyone, including people on “the other side” of theology and politics. He also reflects on his spiritual journey and shares why he feels increasingly distant from polarizing, extreme forms of progressive Christianity. Raised by Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, the most successful televangelist duo in the history of the world, Jay tells a bit of his story on how his beliefs and lifestyle eventually deviated from his fundamentalist upbringing, causing him to question whether he could even remain a Christian. BadChristian, David Bazan’s faith (like it’s any of our business), and atonement theory are other topics discussed as Jay and Joey talk a little about a lot. At top of the episode, John Mark McMillan, Robbie Madison and Joey talk "celebrity culture" in the church. At the top of the episode, Robbie Madison and John Mark McMillan join Joey to talk a bit about Christians’ tendency to make God formulaic and how it’s a bit laughable for humans to believe this is even possible. Then, the dynamic husband and wife duo talk a bit about their deconstruction journey. These two started an Instagram account @yourfavoriteheretics that is basically a one-stop, central hub for people who are deconstructing and detoxing from harmful religious upbringings. We discuss why fear doesn’t have to be a part of this process and ponder how we can all trust a loving God who sees our genuine desire to be on the right path, even when our faith heads in directions we would have once seen as rebellious. Why would a loving God want us to be anything but honest? Rachel explains why she’s currently not too patient with fundamentalists, given the abuse she experienced and still sees people undergoing at the hands of these people with toxic, fear-driven theological postures. A few episodes ago, there were two white guys on this show (one of them was yours truly) and some how we ended up talking about whether or not there was equal opportunity for black people and whether racism still posed problems here in the US of A. It sparked a lot of conversation so I invited my friend Robbie Madison, who is black, to give his perspective of what was discussed. Additional topics are addressed, including the honoring of white racist historical figures, how black people feel around cops, and why being “colorblind” actually isn’t really a virtue. For context, at top of this show, we play the clips of previous episode being discussed. Is worship leading a calling? Do all worship leaders struggle with an ego? Should female worship leaders reveal cleavage? Is playing on people’s emotions bad? What percentage of worship leaders practice moves in the mirror? Should people try and worship, even when they don’t feel like it? Is it okay for “worship music” to be “a thing?” Devin Shelton (Emery) and Toby Morrell (Emery, BadChristian) along with our “off-the-charts” talented friend, Robbie Madison, chime into this unorthodox discussion on worship music and worship leading.
