There are real Christians on both sides of this issue, all of whom feel convinced of their position. If humans are unwilling to embrace this fact, there is no hope for unity.  Christians have clear instructions [John 13:35] not to be known by positions, but rather the love shared for one another and all humanity.     Each woman on this episode would vote the same way at the ballot; and yet see this issue very differently.   Enjoy these conversations?  Check out the digital community version of Pastor With No Answers Podcast, only patrons have access to.  Read about it HERE.  Watch a quick video HERE.   Join HERE.   These perks may change your life.TODAYS HOSTSLiz Miller / Instagram / MemoirsAmy Alderman / FacebookEllen Mauro / InstagramPricilla Svendsen / InstagramANNOUNCEMENTS / LINKS4 Week Experience Podcast Socials // PWNA Discussion Facebook Group / YouTubeThanks //  Derek Minor for theme song and other music / Joel Hamilton, for other music.e-mail the PWNA team here. Support the show

Many systematic theologians talk about God like they got God pegged while Isaiah says "God's thoughts and ways are higher than ours."While many claim things along the lines of "God won't bless your finances if you don't tithe before taxes," I'm still  trying to process what it means for God to love me.  What does that mean for all of us?This is an episode about God.  If you're pursuing theology for a snapshot of God, give up the pursuit because God is too big for that.   What we are left with:If God is all-loving, God can't be all-powerful because there is evil in the world. If God is all-powerful, God must not care or love creation because there is evil in the world. Many Christians still claim God to be both, all-loving and all-powerful  (I'm one of them -- Joey). But while others, like Thomas Oord, actually try to make sense of this dichotomy, coming up with other possible explanations, he's pushed to the side as a heretic.   Thomas Oord's new book Pluriform Love, unpacks a "Thomas Oord version" of open theology, which is a belief that supposes God not to be all-powerful.If this doctrine is true, how do we know we are "eternally safe" in heaven (where ever that is)?How do we reconcile God's wrath and eternal love with his eternal grace, love and redemption.  So what the hell is going on out there and how does all this work?  Does God have emotions?  Why did God create us in the first place? We can only speculate. Worship leader in an evangelical church, cousin of Brian Welch (Korn), struggler of bipolar disorder, and author, Scott W. Box, joins the show to discuss mental illness, grace and Heroic Disgrace, his recent book release in which he tells his story and unpacks the gospel concept of "winning by losing." We also discuss how God can make healthy what He chooses not to heal, and how Scott's struggles with mental illness compelled him to seek Jesus deeper.  Isn't that a good thing?Joey also reflects on his madness of reverting back to OCD spiritual rituals back in his mental health crisis in 2019 and how leaning on others' faith is necessary when personal faith has run dry.  Can your brain ever be too unhealthy to process God in a positive light?  Joey has experienced times when thoughts of God were a detriment.   Two pastors reflect on their journeys through mental health crises and having personal experience, describe their experiences with being suicidal and how selfishness wasn't part of the equation.  Ben Archer, Patron of the show (which means he's in the Bear W/ Community), joins Joey to talk deconstruction and reflect on BadChristian.  And up top, a couple of my black friends reflect a bit on how Will Smith's actions was a poor representation of African-Americans.  Scott W. He always starts with grace, and this seems to be something unfortunately lacking in many hearts of those in the pro-life camp.  Co-host Ellen Mauro, who considers herself a “pro-life liberal” and one who is pro-life but votes pro-choice, joins us to talk about perhaps the most polarizing and potentially heated issues of the century.  ProGrace.org is a movement that offers training and other resources founded on a belief for God to give us a creative solution based on His wisdom and provision - and His love for BOTH the woman and the child.Angie Weszely / Twitter / SiteJoey Svendsen / Instagram / Twitter / FacebookEllen Mauro / InstagramJoin Bear W/ Community (a community for PWNA patrons)Read About / Join / VideoWelcome PacketSocials / Connect:PWNA Discussion Facebook GroupPodcast WebsiteYouTubeE-mail us  for correspondence.ThanksTheme song and all music, courtesy of Derek MinorOther music originally composed by Joel Hamilton and Joel Hamilton + friends.Support the show

The Bear W/ Community holds "Big Gatherings" each month; some of them like this conversation, are open to the public.    What you are hearing on this episode is one of those meetings and the beginning of regular gatherings to discuss the potential of unity amongst affirming and un-affirming Christians.  With Liz Miller (Christian woman married to a woman) and Hunter Gregory (Christian man engaged to a man) as some of the main voices in this conversation, we all discuss whether it's possible to truly love a queer person without affirming his or her sexuality.  Lots of grace in this one, thrown in all directions.  If you have engaged evangelicalism, you keenly understand how people land on both sides of this one.  Matt Oxley, one of the co-hosts (queer himself, former evangelical) has empathy for those who do not affirm him.   He sees them as "victims" of a smear campaign that's been going on for the last hundred years.   How about this one?  Is it good or bad, that not one un-affirming person Joey approached to engage in this discussion, was willing to?  Hunter Gregory says "that's a bunch of malarky and hogwash." Why can't Christians enjoy a "God's Kingdom first" approach to life?  Could our very democracy crumble,  due merely to people's unwillingness to listen and learn about other peoples's views, convictions and beliefs?Rev. Brandan Robertson is family of this show, author, activist and public theologian.  Discussing his newest book, Filled to Be Emptied: The Path to Liberation for Privileged People, Brandan once again pulls no punches in his true desire to radically love all, taking Jesus seriously no matter what the cost.  Although Rev. Brandan considers himself on the "left" (or in the "progressive camp") and speaks often against the hypocrisy of much of the evangelical right, he feels his leftest "team" gains nothing--and is even  in err--when demonizing Trump voters.  Brandan challenges us all to "see the face of God" in everyone.  Why do we worship ideology?  Can we really call ourselves followers of Christ if we do not empty ourselves and give up privileges like he did (Philippians 2)?  This passage, Brandan supposes, addresses the sacrificial responsibilities a privileged follower of Christ is called to have.  Hard point to argue against.   Read the verse for yourself.   Is anger good, while bitterness is not?  Why are some evangelicals leaving evangelicalism while others stay, in support of a leader who goes against many of the very morals  evangelicals have historically never budged on? Co-hosts Joey Svendsen and Matt Oxley hang with regular contributor Jack Hoey (the father) to discuss whether capitalism or communism is ideal in regards to morals, greed, and a more "Jesus Way" of running things.  Everyone on the show agrees on capitalism's shortcomings (and even evil of), but the disagreement at hand, is whether communism is any better.   There are admirable motivations for both "sides" to promote their version of "ideal government," the various perspectives here represent a different weighting system of different values. Did Jesus speak against capitalism?  Does communism lend itself to more evil, given the more control allotted to less people, and the question remains: has it ever worked in the past?  History has spoken clearly though, no manmade system can fix human greed, undo the propensity to take advantage of others,  nor stop the violence motivated often for financial gain.  Co-HostsMatt Oxley / Web  / TwitterJoey Svendsen / Instagram / Twitter / FacebookBear W/ Community Read About / Join / Raffle / Welcome PacketBear W// Community VideoSocials / Connect  Join our mailing list to keep up with everything.Join the PWNA Discussion Facebook GroupWe are on YouTube and Tik Tok.PWNAcontact@gmail.com  for correspondence.ThanksTheme song, courtesy of Derek MinorOther music originally composed by Joel Hamilton and Joel Hamilton + friends. Dr. Latimore, author of “Unshakable Faith of Famous and Little Known African Americans from Colonial Times to the Present"  joins co-hosts Robbie Madison and Joey Svendsen to discuss the important outlooks and insights his book delivers on. In our diverse communities, churches, organizations and political spaces, [Black] history offers a window into the meaning of America  and the opportunity to reflect and marvel at, the strength of a people who refused to be destroyed and who fought and loved their way into our nation's story.  In this conversation, an unexpected theme is processed in real time and confirmed by Robbie and Dr. Latimore.  As African American men who value their blackness and maintain passion for  equality and social justice for all people,  the concept of blindly "cancelling a racist" for them seems lazy, rudimentary, and contrary to the Spirit of love represented by Jesus' words "Father, forgive,  for they know not.."  This new "cancelling trend" in our culture basically eliminates the chances of some thing Jesus seemed pretty adamant about all of us having: new beginnings and second chances, birthed by Grace.  The book also highlights a deeper, even heart-wrenching path of grace that many have painfully walked through.    Sometimes the unfairness of life (as it was for many of the saints discussed in his book) makes it is hard to keep going with soundness of mind, hope, and contentment in our hearts.  Dr. Latimore shares the stories of African Americans who found all three, even in the midst of grave injustices that personally destroyed the hopes of having what many of the more privileged were able to take for granted as "simple rights" and receiving "our due."  May our hearts be changed forever by the stories of our fellowmen and women who persevered while truly walking in the footsteps of Jesus.   A lesson for all mankind, especially in 2022.  Carey Latimore / Info / Facebook / Book Robbie Madison / Web / Instagram / Music Join us as a Patron. What if in the "Genesis 1 beginning," things had already began?  What if the infamous, "In the Beginning" beginning, happens to be about  one small area, guarded by an angel (Garden of Eden).  S. Joshua Swamidass, MD, PhD,  author of The Genealogical Adam and Eve: The Surprising Science of Universal Ancestry, challenges widely-held presuppositions held about the Genesis creation story and has put his tenure on the line for being forthright with the role that his faith plays in how he sees the world.  In this episode he talks how a plain reading of Genesis  can still be supported by science.  Oh yeah, and he believes in evolution.  But according to Dr. Swamidass, humans still lack amazement for the good stuff.  How are we not more fascinated by existence in general?  Or the existence of consciousness?  He demonstrates well the ability to maintain what most of his atheist colleagues would call "good science" while still being a self-proclaimed, "Christian first, scientist second" person.  And while he's here, we also manage to talk conspiracies, AI, Mars exploration and how it's hard to get ethics out of science, especially in regards to abortion.  At top of episode, Jack Hoey and Ellen Mauro defend some very cynical comments they made on a previous episode about speaking in tongues.  Chip Judd challenges their views on a means of prayer he practices every day and claims to be why he is the man he is today.  Joshua Swamidass, MD, PhD // Twitter  Ellen Mauro Instagram Chip Judd Instagram // WebsiteJack Hoey Instagram //  TwitterJoey/PWNA Instagram and TwitterJoin us as a Patron!Join our mailing list to keep up with everything.Tip any amount $ to Venmo for a PWNA Sticker.Join the PWNA Discussion Facebook GroupPWNAcontact@gmail.com  for correspondence.Theme song, courtesy of Derek MinorOther music originally composed by  Joel Hamilton and Joel Hamilton + friends. Executive Producer of PWNApod:  Jared SvendsenSupport the show

Why is Ryan (a white, straight male) sad about not being able to say certain words?  Ellen expresses skepticism for Ryan and Joey's fear of being cancelled and wonders what that would even look like for two guys who aren't really famous.  Along the way, Joey thinks he found a “female counterpart” for the word “dick,” and don't worry, it's not the “p-word.”  Could humans be more forgiving with people's words?   Is it a thing of the past to have public, "non-cancelling" spaces for those who are genuinely ignorant but open to learning?   Or what about those who truly make a mistake but have sincere regret?  We discuss all this and end on the sad note of how Bill Cosby broke our damn hearts. We've heard the stories, we've seen their signs, our jaws have dropped, our stomachs have turned. Why do they do what they do? How do they reconcile their actions with the teachings of Jesus? How do they claim to practice love? Back in August of 2020, Jack Hoey III and Joey talked to the leader of Westboro Baptist, Tim Phelps.   You can listen to that episode here (part 1).  This time around, we challenge some different practices of Westboro, including their clear “double-standard” use of scripture.  Jack  amongst other things, suggests that the folks at Westboro would greatly benefit from  approaching the bible with more humility.   Tim amongst other things, points at what he'd call clear doctrinal instructions in the bible that guide the day to day of his organization.  Joey is accompanied this time by Jack Hoey (the father) who is closer in age to Tim and quite likely as studied in scripture.  Unfortunately a bit of the same result, as far as finding substantial common ground but that wasn't a surprise.  This time though, Joey did manage to ask Tim if he liked him and Jack.Join us as a Patron! At top of the episode, Joey's pastor Josh Surratt joins to talk about big church buildings, whether he's comfortable with Joey's different approaches to Christian faith, if he'd like to be a celebrity pastor and if there's anything he dislikes about the church he leads.   Within white evangelical church cultures, many black people have  found their voices and convictions unvalued.  It's a very ugly truth but many white, evangelical churches embrace black membership and even love “the look” of having black leadership.  But once black leaders use their God-given leadership and insight to influence – or at the very least – to share their hearts with white people, it's viewed as "stepping out of line," even sinful.  Dante Stewart, former defensive back of God's favorite college football team, Clemson Tigers, wrote a book called “Shoutin' in the Fire: An American Epistle;  in which he shares his reasons for permanently leaving white evangelicalism, why it's not his job to help white people change, and ways to help us all reimagine spiritual virtues like rage, resilience, and remembrance, exploring how these might function as a work of love against an unjust, unloving world.  How's that for a run-on sentence!  Dante Stewart / Twitter / Instagram / Website / Book on Amazon Pastor Josh Surratt / Twitter / Instagram Books mentioned in this episode:  More Beautiful and Terrible History by Jeanne TheoharisThe Blood of Emmett Till by Timothy B. All hell is breaking loose now  in "Evangelical-Land" as more women speak out authoritatively and aren't taking huge strides to be nice about it.   Does Jesus call us to more than niceness? Author, Pastor and full of that Ph to the D, Sharon Hodde Miller has navigated the treacherous waters of being a woman and a pastor, while living in the south.   We discuss  her book "Nice: Why We Love to be Liked and How God Calls us to More," as she lays out how christian women, especially leaders and those with influence, have been rewarded and lauded over the years for their "niceness."  It's even been the most lucrative posture for a woman to take in the Christian market of speaking gigs and book sales. Sharon has a knack for being patient and gracious to those with different backgrounds with varying theological views; and highlights the importance of unity, despite differing opinions on important theological matters.  In other words, she fits right in with the PWNA fam.  "Jesus didn't broad brush people and we shouldn't either. "  -- SharonWhy did Jesus choose 12 dudes and not one woman?  Why are the badass women in the bible to this day not given the badass credentials that are due to them?  All this and more, good friends. Author (“Women Rising”) and Podcaster, (Faith and Feminism Podcast) Meghan Tschanz, was fully invested in ministry work when she found herself no longer able to go with the “evangelical flow" of how women were treated and how their role in this world was characterized "biblically."  And once she saw the connection between traditional church views on female roles and the violence and trafficking of women in general, it couldn't be unseen; now she feels compelled once and for all, to live a life of speaking out, putting her convictions over “keeping the peace” with evangelicalism.  During this conversation, Meghan talks about the damage women have sustained over the years by traditional patriarchal translations of scripture. Through many current views of scripture, women are pressured to take responsibility for the sexual attention (even unwanted advances) their bodies attract instead of teaching men to have self-control.  Men are taught that “power over women” is good and admirable.  It shows she respects you.  Hell, the church even taught Joey to objectify woman.  It was probably accidental, but all the same. God's beautiful word in the hands of mankind can be a dangerous thing, folks.  Forced genital mutilation is an epidemic and needs to be stopped.  How conservative families struggle through and respond to a member entertaining more progressive viewpoints.   How men  can use the bible to keep power.  Meghan explains why despite the glaring patriarchal context of scripture, the point of scripture has always been to liberate people.  All people.  All genders.Stay tuned, in two days, we'll have Sharon Hodde Miller.   Joey/PWNA Instagram and TwitterCurrent DonorSee giving opportunitySupport Us:Join us as a patron!or leave a Venmo tipJoin the PWNA Discussion Facebook GroupPWNAcontact@gmail.com  for correspondence.Theme song, courtesy of Derek MinorOther music originally composed by Joel Hamilton and Joel Hamilton + friends.Executive Producer of PWNApod:  Jared SvendsenSupport the show

ProGrace.org is a movement that offers training and other resources founded on a belief for God to give us a creative solution based on His wisdom and provision - and His love for BOTH the woman and the child.[Preview in Intro] of Pro-Choice or Pro-Life (Part 2): Melissa Florer-BixlerAngie Weszely: https://twitter.com/angieweszelyhttps://prograce.org/Ellen Mauro:https://www.instagram.com/ellenmauroJoey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee giving opportunity: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelpsSupport Us:Join us as a patron! https://www.patreon.com/pwnapodor leave a Venmo tip right @  https://venmo.com/joey-svendsenJoin the discussion:https://www.facebook.com/groups/PWNAtalkSocials:https://twitter.com/joeysvendsenhttps://www.facebook.com/PWNApodE-mail PWNAcontact@gmail.com for correspondence.Music on this episode courtesy of Derek Minor:  http://www.derekminor.comOther music originally composed by Joel Hamilton + friendshttps://mechanicalriver.bandcamp.com/http://embassyfreqs.com/Executive Producer of PWNApod:  Jared SvendsenSupport the show

One of the sensei's of deconstruction, Phil Drysdale, brings history, psychology, and philosophy into the “deconstruction conservation.”  Joey processes how he feels God graciously treats people who lose their faith.  Phil supposes that no one chooses to walk away from God and how those who stop believing are usually the ones who followed Christianity with the most zeal.  Could we all just be doing the best we can with what we've been given?  Are really bad things typically done with good intentions?  All people think they're the good guys but we're all a mess. What if God administers justice by healing us all?  At the top of the episode, Ellen and Joey welcome a new guest host, Hayne Griffen to talk suicide, masturbation and how Christianity has robbed women of body autonomy.  Phil Drysdale:  https://www.instagram.com/phildrysdaleJoey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee giving opportunity: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelpsSupport Us:Join us as a patron! https://www.patreon.com/pwnapod or leave a Venmo tip right @  https://venmo.com/joey-svendsen Join the discussion: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PWNAtalk Socials: https://twitter.com/joeysvendsen https://www.facebook.com/PWNApod E-mail PWNAcontact@gmail.com for correspondence. Christianity Today released episode one of a podcast series that narrates and reflects on the rise and fall of the late Mars Hill Church in Seattle, formerly led by Pastor Mark Driscoll.  Dr. Tony Jones (former friend of Mark Driscoll), who appears on this documentary, joins us alongside Ellen Mauro (remained a part of the Mars Hill Church family until the very end) and Jack Hoey (former admirer of Mark Driscoll) to discuss the content of this new documentary series.  Are pastors with similar track records as Driscoll's, aware of the harm they are causing?  Are they hearing from God?  If not, do they believe they are?  Did anything good happen at Mars Hill Church, considering what we now know?  We reflect on these questions and propose a few more: If one is known for his charisma, should this disqualify her from leading a church?  Is evangelicalism's main vehicle entrepreneurialism?  So many people who loved and sacrificed for the church community of Mars Hill are still hurting to this day.  Many of them are still asking, “How did I not see what was really happening?”Podcast being discussed in this episode:  https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/podcasts/rise-and-fall-of-mars-hill/Dr. Tony Jones: https://reverendhunter.com/Ellen Mauro:  https://www.instagram.com/ellenmauroJack Hoey: @jackthelesser (twitter and Instagram) Joey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee giving opportunity: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelps Support Us: Join us as a patron! https://www.patreon.com/pwnapod or leave a Venmo tip right @  https://venmo.com/joey-svendsen Join the discussion:https://www.facebook.com/groups/PWNAtalk Socials:https://twitter.com/pwnapodhttps://twitter.com/joeysvendsenhttps://www.facebook.com/PWNApod  E-mail PWNAcontact@gmail.com for correspondence. Over the years, Pastor With No Answers has had a big tent,  allowing for a wide array of perspectives, some of which would get your ass canceled by the liberals and others getting you completely cancelled by the conservatives.  The intent of this podcast however has always been to be a platform for people, not a position.  A podcast where real people share their real journeys and utilize a public space to share candidly, raw and honest personal reflections, right or wrong, for better or for worst.   It's a "pro people's podcast" that operates with the following belief:  If we can find a common ground of love, we can also find a way to learn from one another and change personally for the better.   Today, as we celebrate 300 episodes, representing the hearts and souls of people, we relive key moments of 5 different episodes that represent why this podcast exists (enjoy some fun, pivotal and light-hearted moments in between these five focal points):Episode 11:A pastor who didn't want us to air this episode, offended by the vulgarity  we discussed.  We ended up airing the episode, keeping him anonymous and voice disguised. Episode 251: Interview with a leader at Westboro Baptist “Church” Episode 120: Joey's and Pricilla recounting the day Pricilla flew out to say her last good-byes to her ailing father.  Joey implored Pricilla before her departure, to make sure her dad is saved, so he wouldn't spend eternity in hell.  They two discuss that sort of "christian thinking" and how Joey has changed in how he sees these things.  Episodes 74 and 81: Mars Hill Women, in the context of love,  speak out on the atrocities of Mark Driscoll.**Joey also processes his current  processing of being connected to leadership who endorses Mark Driscoll's continued leadership in ministry. **Episode 150:After doing everything "by the book" (i.e. Bible), a father faces the prospect of God's promises not working the way he always believed they would. Thank you so much, listeners! Joey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee giving opportunity: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelpsSupport Us:Join us as a patron! https://www.patreon.com/pwnapodor leave a Venmo tip right @  https://venmo.com/joey-svendsenJoin the discussion:https://www.facebook.com/groups/PWNAtalkSocials:https://twitter.com/pwnapodhttps://twitter.com/joeysvendsenhttps://www.facebook.com/PWNApodE-mail PWNAcontact@gmail.com for correspondence.Theme Song courtesy of Derek Minor:  http://www.derekminor.comOther music originally composed by Joel Hamilton + friends https://mechanicalriver.bandcamp.com/http://embassyfreqs.com/Executive Producer of PWNApod:  Jared SvendsenSupport the show

One of the few women to translate the Bible, Bonnie Lewis discusses her journey that led to this wonderful masterpiece. The journey was wrought with outside criticism revolving around a female's audaciousness to do such a thing as translate the Bible.  Bonnie's  “inner Fundamentalist" wasn't so quick to let her off the hook in pursuing this endeavor;  but over time, her Maker made paths straight and vision cleared to proceed.  Part of Pastor With No Answers extended family, Bonnie, shares her journey that led to her writing the enlightening idiomatic translation of the Bible.  It's called Timshel, a collection of the most commonly heard stories in the Old and New Testament.  So, what do we make out of the chauvinistic nature of the Bible?  When everyone is getting a different meaning out of the Bible, how do we know what to trust?  And what finite being gets to be an authority of  God's work?  We discuss this and more.We also discuss a survival story from the big Texas snow that occurred this past winter.   Joey comes  clean with how Bonnie (and her husband, Cy) were recipients of some “anxiety texts” of his, around the time he was in crisis with his mental health.  Bonnie Lewis and Timshel:https://www.instagram.com/bonniegaillewis/https://www.timsheltranslation.com/Special Music Feature from “Terraform: The People” by Propaganda & DJ Mal Ski"We All In” (beginning of episode)"We Are All We Got” (end of episode) *download new album wherever you listen to musicJoey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelpsGet notifications each time we start raising money to get more information on our current opportunity to “save the day” for team humanity. Our guest does not call this suicide, nor labels as euthanasia.  Working with Compassion and Choices, Rev. Madison Shockley advocates for the humane option for the terminally ill to choose the means and timing of their impending death.  Rather than facing the prospect of a ruthless and painful journey leading to the end, he advocates for freedom and peace that comes by giving them the driver seat of when and how they will die.  You'll be hard-pressed to find a more gracious, loving and biblically sound outlook on this endeavor that is now legalized in numerous American States. We discuss real-life instances in which people have benefitted from this option and how one goes about ending his or her life with this medical aid.  We also dissect evangelically-postured objections to one being able to take the timing of death into his own hands. Before any of this, Ellen Mauro, Jack Hoey III and Joey discuss and debate spanking kids and reflect on parenting children as an Enneagram 5.Compassion and Choices:https://compassionandchoices.org/ Ellen Mauro: @ellenmauroJack Hoey III: @JackthelesserJoey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelpsGet notifications each time we start raising money to get more information on our current opportunity to “save the day” for team humanity. While I (Joey) personally find very primitive and archaic the belief in a God-ordained predestination of souls, Chris Date's holding to this position  doesn't lessen the amount of respect I have for him as a biblical scholar.  Chip, Chris and I discuss and debate the philosophical components of whether people can have real choice while at the same time, God also ordaining that choice they will freely make.  In other words, can God ordain that people have real choice while also ordaining what choice they will make?  Chris thinks so.  We have plenty of “if I treated my kids the way God does” analogies, talk a bit about whether Jack and Jill had real choice to go up the hill if the author writes it (you'll have to listen) and even ponder marital affairs being “God ordained.”  Chris Date and Rethinking Hellhttp://www.theopologetics.com/http://www.youtube.com/theopologetics/https://fuller.academia.edu/ChristopherDatehttp://www.rethinkinghell.com/http://www.youtube.com/rethinkinghell/Chip Judd's "8-Minute Mind Shift"https://chipjudd.com/category/mindshiftJoey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelpsGet notifications each time we start raising money to get more information on our current opportunity to “save the day” for team humanity. This week we continue our journey through Aaron's "laid back and heavy" motif with Highly Suspect. Highly Suspect is an American rock band from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The band consists of twin brothers Rich (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Ryan Meyer (drums, backing vocals), Johnny Stevens (guitar, lead vocals), and Matt Kofos (guitar, synthesizer, backing vocals). After starting as a bar cover band, they relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where they recorded The Worst Humans EP with producer Joel Hamilton. The band's first studio album, Mister Asylum, was released on July 17, 2015, earning Highly Suspect a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. It's that album we take a dive into this week. Mister Asylum debuted at No. 56 on Billboard 200, and No. 7 on the Top Rock Albums chart, selling 4,000 copies in its first week. Although not as obscure as some of the albums we discuss, the grungy hard rock of Mister Asylum shares the same DNA as albums from Royal Blood, cleopatrick and The Fairview.
