This session of the radio show shares my conversation with Tina Powderly, Executive Director of the Franklin Food Pantry and Liz Miller, Community Coordinator of Spoonfuls.org. SAP and Enterprise Trends Podcasts from Jon Reed (@jonerp) of diginomica.com
This one started as a soloflight, but the timing was good for Constellation's Liz Miller to crash the show as only she can do, and take a Google-cookie-backtrack victory lap, and make sense of the gen AI creativity debate from a CMO/marketing angle. There is a bit of a without-a-net vibe here until Liz shows up at the 11:00, but I recommend tracking this from the beginning to hear the context of the article on AI, creativity and job impact we will discuss. The podcast starts with the introduction of an important piece on gen AI and impact on creative jobs by journalism Brian Merchant. As I originally pitched the show: "One more notable article on gen AI creativity came out that we need to break down. I may get a couple guests to crash this session. Feel free to join and have your cam ready, maybe you'll be one of them." Stay to the end and get a cameo from Brent Leary as well, he goes off on Google's moves before heading into his own broadcast...

Elizabeth “Liz” Miller, MD, PhD, chief of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, discusses the importance of centering community voices and the role of research in promoting health equity and child thriving.
Happy Independence Day! First up, hear Thistle greet the listener introducing the topic of "patriarchal patriotism" with Liz Miller and Sekhmet SheOwl. After the greeting, hear WLRN's World News segment delivered by Mary O'Neill before enjoying American artist Whitney Houston's rendition of the patriotic song "America the Beautiful". Next, stay tuned for a conversation Thistle had with Liz Miller, Contributing Editor of Spinning and Weaving, A Feminist Anthology for the 21st Century. They discuss this year's presidential election cycle, what it means for girls and women, and what we can do to build real democracy in our society. At one point in the conversation, the Party of Women is mentioned. To learn more about the Party of Women go to: www.partyofwomen.org/ Finally, don't miss our in-house WLRN commentary by Sekhmet SheOwl who defines patriotism and points out how it is rooted in male power and is explicitly against women's interests for us to invest and participate in it. She says this is true no matter the nation and including right here in the good ole USA. Thanks as ever for tuning in to WLRN's monthly handcrafted podcast. This month and going forward into the future until the FiLia conference in October 2025, WLRN is raising funds to send Thistle, Jenna and aurora as representatives of WLRN to participate in and report on the goings on. Our passes into the conference are covered but our flight and accommodations are not thus far... and that's where you come in! To donate to the cause, please visit wlrnmedia.com and click on the donate button. Any amount is appreciated and we pledge to provide you with stellar WLRN coverage and participation in the FiLia conference 2025. For more information about FiLia, go here: www.filia.org.uk/about-filia. This month's cover image was created by Margaret, WLRN's graphic designer. Her statement about the piece is below. "To make the image for Edition 99, Patriarchal Patriotism, I used a photo I took at a Memorial Day parade, one I took of some bunting, and I found a couple of photos of bombs. The parade photo includes old cars and flags - which represent tradition, the patriarchy, and patriotism. There is a woman who is obscured by a flag (that seemed symbolic of how women are hidden and/or ignored) so I copied, enlarged, & centered that part of the image. The way the image got duplicated, people seemed to have lost their heads (also symbolic) - as the cars (and time) seem to drive over them. Also appearing ‘underground' (and in our collective unconscious) are the bombs - USA bombs and Russia's bombs."
In November 2016, Oregon voters overwhelmingly approved Measure 98, also known as the High School Success fund. It provides targeted state funds in three core areas: dropout prevention, career and technical education and college readiness. High schools across the state can apply to access Measure 98 funds by developing individual plans on how those dollars will get used to boost graduation rates among students at risk for dropping out, for example, or provide CTE courses. Stand for Children, a nonprofit that helped write Measure 98 and campaigned for its passage, credits it with helping raise graduation rates, especially for students of color and from low-income households. OPB’s education reporters Liz Miller and Natalie Pate join us to share their recent reporting on Measure 98’s impact and its future.
[Contributors to this Episode: Joey Svendsen, Liz Miller, Stoy Prioleau, Matt Oxley]Stoy's cultural upbringing and mentoring (or lack of) instilled various perspectives about sex, marriage and success, that he'd later have to grow out of. Joey and Liz lament over inappropriate hip-hop lyrics, having sons who love hip-hop, and Matt exhorts Christians to repent from capitalism. Stoy also reminisces on middle school lingo amongst him and his black peers, throwing Joey into gleeful middle school nostalgia, remembering as kids hanging with Stoy and other black peers of Joey's. Stay tuned 'til the very end for Sekhmet's commentary reflecting on 2023 and how so much stays the same despite the march of time. She recommends we connect with other women and take care of ourselves as individuals in our development and healing as we head into 2024. Thanks, as always, dear listeners, for staying tuned to WLRN, YOUR feminist community-powered media center in the Femisphere!

In this week's Insights Unlocked, Alex Mullans, product lead at Figma, provides insightful perspectives and strategies for maintaining human connections in remote design teams during his conversation with Liz Miller, vice president and principal analyst at Constellation Research.

Liz Miller is on the Harbour Lights board and is head elf in charge of the limited-edition mugs. She speaks with host Julia Wright about this year's campaign.
In this Insights Unlocked episode, Liz Miller interviews UserTesting's Chief Scientist Ranjitha Kumar about her unique perspective on integrating AI and machine learning (ML) into UX and experience research.
Human Trafficking has been the world's fastest-growing criminal enterprise for over a decade. It is estimated that over 26 million people are enslaved globally, and over 1 million, 300,000 of which are children, in the U.S. alone. An even darker statistic, the 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report conducted annually by the State Department, states that less than 1% of victims are ever identified and consequently get out alive.Human trafficking in the U.S. is not only what you see in the movies, foreign impoverished children being kidnapped and made available for purchase to pedophiles. The truth is that most sex trafficking victims in the U.S. are American girls, and the average age of initial victimization is 13 years old. Sex trafficking does not discriminate based on race or economic standing. In a report published in 2016 by doctors in their respective fields, human trafficking was found in every school in San Diego County. The wellbeing of our children has become a national crisis, and the only way to protect your child is to understand how they could become or are already the targets of criminals who desire to use and abuse them.References:International Organization for Stopping Exploitation of WomenSan Diego ReportSupport the show______________________________________________________Please subscribe, rate, and share this podcast to help spread the word. [Hosts Contributing in this episode: Liz Miller / Joey Svendsen and "friend of the show," Sarah Eller]This conversation started in Episode 309 and today continues with Joey and two of his former, female co-workers. Was the "Billy Graham Rule" needed between him and these two friends (the co-workers), Sarah Eller and Liz Miller? While Joey and Sarah are more comfortable with taking into consideration many of the cautions this rule represents, Liz finds it dated and believes it may be needed for "sad reasons." The three discuss some angles of "the rule" in a way that only friends would be able to.Get The B-Sides Feed (comes with access to our private community)Facebook Discussion Group here. In this week's Insights Unlocked, Liz Miller from Constellation Research chats with Andy Parquette, a senior UX designer at Panera Bread, about the ever-evolving landscape of experience research, innovation, and the challenges of designing digital experiences for diverse audiences. Their conversation took place at The Human Insight Summit (THiS) in Seattle last month. Panera's small UX team aims to support customers across their entire journey, from home or work to the restaurant and back; from research to visual design. “The sun never sets on what UX touches,” said Parquette, a senior UX designer at Panera Bread. That investment has paid off. According to its parent company, Panera Bread continues to expand its leading digital capabilities, which today account for 51% of total sales, while increasing its loyalty base to 53 million members and launching an innovative loyalty subscription model that has resulted in 25% of all Panera transactions now coming from Unlimited Sip Club members.

Edition 78 begins with a greeting from resident lesbian feminist, Sekhmet SheOwl, who presents Liz Miller's regular monthly "Getting Organized" segment before WLRN's Aurora Linnea files a report on the recent WDI USA conference that took place in Washington DC over the weekend of September 24th. Next, stay tuned for WLRN's world news segment written and delivered by Emiliann Lorenzen before enjoying the traditional song "Bella Ciao" performed by two anonymous Iranian women. During this segment, you will be invited to send a 7-second audio or video clip to stelladoves@outlook.com stating that you stand with the women of Iran. Stella is putting together a historic women-only video with voices from women around the world expressing our solidarity with the women of Iran. Please get your 7- second clip to Stella by October 7th! Then, hear Thistle discuss the Mermaids Tribunal with Jo Bartosch, a feminist independent journalist from the UK, before Sekhmet circles back to give her commentary on the Mermaids Tribunal and the LGB Alliance and what it all means for homosexual and bisexual men and women and for lesbians in particular. As always, thanks for tuning in to WLRN, dear listener. Kicking off a 4-part series for the month of October, sexuality, self-worth and image, the brutality of breast cancer and what it's like not to desire sex, all through the life experiences of women (but of course!). Today, co-hosts of the show, Ellen Mauro, Amy Alderman and Liz Miller discuss what pop culture currently deems as the ideal female body type, whether women always care about having sex appeal and if culture is dictating the whole "as men get older, they become more distinguished and as women age, less sexy and desirable" narrative. All three ladies describe with great candor their own struggle with body image, especially as they age. Special thanks to them for that. Are women competitive with one another? Is it unnerving that statistically, as men get older they always find girls in their early 20s the most appealing sexually? Does culture now accept the sexual objectification of men? Oh, and guys being more visual than women? That may just be a myth. It's "A Woman's Body Month" on Pastor With No Answers Podcast. The conversation continues throughout the month: "Asexuality" with Rachel Meyers of Your Favorite Heretics (Oct. 11th) "Brutality of Breast Cancer" with co-host Hayne and his wife, Erica (Oct 18th)"Woman Sexuality" with Erica Smith (Oct 25th) Love the show? Edition 77: A Digest of Michigan Women's Music and Arts Festivals 2022. Both Thistle and Jenna got to gather with women in the woods of Michigan this Summer 2022. Both give their reports from a variety of women's lands and festivals in the great State of Michigan. Hear Emiliann Lorenzen's world news headlines after Liz Miller's segment "Getting Organized" wherein she interviews Dawn Smith, founder and organizer of Michigan Framily Reunion (MFR). Then, stay tuned for Thistle's interviews with Jori Costello and Emily Faye, two women artists and musicians on women's lands and at women's gatherings this Summer in Michigan. Jori Costello is a member of the band Big Bad Gina and instructor at WWTLC.org's festival called Women's Performance Initiative or WIPI Band Camp. Thistle met her on the Land where the original MichFest took place and they talked about WIPI and the mythos of Michigan in general as the rain pitter patters in the background, deep in the woods. Emily Faye is a cross country traveler spreading love and cheer with her unique yoni art and booth she sets up on Women's lands. You might know her by the tick tick tocking of her old fashioned type writer where she furiously writes secret pages of unknown content. You can find her on the interwebs here: www.radicallybedazzled.com. Finally, stay tuned for Thistle's commentary about the two Michigan gatherings she got to go to this Summer, one by bike! Her rendition of the classic Grateful Dead song "Brokedown Palace" is woven in with her words describing highlights and moments on the Land. Previously, Liz worked for GlobalFluency, CMO Council, and Jan Marini Skin Research. In this episode, Liz discusses the evolution of the CDP, what real-time actually means to customers, and how sales training at The Gap made her a better marketer.-------------------Key Takeaways:Composable architecture that holds data, business applications, systems and tools is fundamental to have headless applicationsAsking your customer open-ended questions is key when collecting valuable and personalized dataWe no longer look at customer experience through the lens of our systems, but through the eyes of our customers. They are in charge of what real-time data means to them.-------------------“Marketing's role is to so deeply understand the market and the customer that we act like this translational bridge between what our customer needs, wants, and expects, or just wants to dream about, aspire to. And we translate their language so that they can discover and understand our products and how great it is and all of those wonderful profitable things. One woman married to an Air Force pilot (Jessica Reagan), another woman who grew up in a military family (Liz Miller). One black guy (Robbie Madison), one white guy (Joey Svendsen). Each grew up (and was taught to) loving the U.S.A. but as adults, this love looks a lot different. What does it mean to love your country but not trust the government? How can our country be as bad as some of our citizens claim, when people all around the world are still trying to get here? Why are so many Americans more concerned about our country looking good than they are about taking an honest look at the history? Is there a lot of good being done by our military that we just do not hear about? We even talk a bit about the "good" and "bad" of kneeling at the flag like Colin and how Robbie and Liz to this day are nervous about the flag touching the ground. Happy 4th of July! From joey blowing up a woman's restroom while ladies are waiting to use, to a bunch of "girl body part talk," co-hosts Liz Miller, Amy Alderman, and Ellen Mauro have "homie time" with Joey; which means listen at your own risk. Lots of "adult clowning," so get the earmuffs out for the kids. After getting through the sh*ts and giggles, Liz expresses love and grace towards people who "do not agree with her lifestyle," and Joey proposes that society is getting more woke. co-hostsEllen Mauro / Instagram Liz Miller / Instagram Amy Alderman / Facebook Joey Svendsen / Instagram / Twitter Join Bear W/ Community (a community for PWNA patrons)Read About / JoinBear W// Community VideoRaffle and Welcome PacketRaffleWelcome PacketUpdates via Remind App (or text @Bearwit to 81010)Socials / Connect (open to all):PWNA Discussion Facebook GroupPodcast WebsiteYouTubeE-mail us for correspondence.ThanksTheme song and all music, courtesy of Derek MinorAndrew Holder sound engineers, mixes, and helps with overall production.E-mail him here for all your podcast needs. Welcome to a new (and permanent) angle of Pastor With No Answers Podcast. Ellen Mauro, Amy Alderman and Liz Miller, all mothers and wives, one hates her job as a stay at home mom, each medicated for anxiety and really bad OCD. One seems to be pro-violence, one swings both ways, each of them think critically enough not to cancel everyone who makes a mistake, and all three want to follow Jesus as best as she can. We discuss Liz's journey of being widowed for 10 years and recently getting married this past January. Liz processes with us evangelicals' perspective of her as a “broken woman" due to her gay marriage. We discuss the irony that religious organizations -- full of promiscuity, sexual scandal, and pedophilia themselves-- are the ones shouting the loudest about sexual sin. As a PART II of this episode, Pricilla Svendsen joins Amy, Ellen and Joey to discuss different facets of "the Chris Rock getting popped by the Fresh Prince" craziness. As this discussion unfolds, it's discovered that Amy and Ellen are going to drive one another crazy for years to come. Awesome! For starters, Amy supports corporal punishment for kids while Ellen is dumbfounded why southerners don't call this abuse. "Violence is wrong" -- Ellen "Chris Rock deserved to get his ass kicked worse." -- AmyYou get the picture, right?
