Jim Vallely Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Sitting down with Emmy and WGA award winner, Jim Vallely was a cozy, comfortable, fun, and funny hang. He even told us a joke joke, on request. It's one he's been “testing” as part of a sociological experiment of sorts. Win/win, we got a laugh with a lesson. Who knew that having a seizure in 6th grade would lead to a career as a TV comedy writer. Jim takes us through and it makes perfect sense. This accountant studying student just happened to sit next to the right guy at an NYU audition, ask his mother the right question on the right day, marry the right girl, move into the right apartment, partner with the right actor/comedian, Jonathan Schmock, become 1/2 of The Funny Boys comedy team, appear on Johnny Carson, co-star on the sitcom, Double Trouble, and then write on The Golden Girls, one of the most successful sitcoms of all time. Brotherly Love, Ladies Man, Action, Two and a Half Men, My Wife and Kids, The John Larriquette Show, Till Death, Extended Family, as well as Arrested Development, for which he garnered 4 Emmy nominations, and the aforementioned awards, followed. Jim was an executive producer and co-creator with Will Arnett and Michael Hurwitz of Running Wilde on Fox. There's more. Jim tells a great Carl Reiner/Alan Brady story, tells us how the real Kramer, Larry David, Bill Maher, Callie Khouri, Chris Thompson, Don Reo, Mitchell Hurwitz, Will Arnett, and Jay Mohr factor into his story, gives us the before, during, and after of his career milestones, and speaks with great pride and tenderness about the great loves and joys of his life, his talented wife, Maggie, and his successful daughter, Tannis. We talked about our friends, Taylor Negron and Ron Zimmerman. There is no friend like Jim. His love, devotion, and care for Ron, was a gift he gave all of us who loved him. Jim's a tender-hearted, special man. And boy, is he funny. A very funny boy, indeed! After a brief week hiatus, the podcast ups the ante on cringeworthy comics, or cringe-tastic if you prefer, with this week's entry. Marville is truly a sight to behold. In a spectacularly poorly written comic, the president of Marvel, at the time Bill Jemas, attempts to take on the creative team at his own company. Jemas constructs an experiment to see if he can outsell Peter David and Ron Zimmerman by writing his own comic. Although the comic is billed as a parody of the industry, it is so poorly written that any humor is lost in an incomprehensible mess. Who will win the UDecide at Marvel? Well, you already know the answer to that, but listen in as MMP discusses Marville!

It took almost 20 Episodes, but we finally got to get Co-Founder of The Handler/Zimmerman Team, the one and only Ron Zimmerman onto the Podcast!! Ron and I have been working together a little over three years, and have accomplished so much in that short period of time. Ron and I knew early on that we wanted to work together, and the team was built very organically once we saw how aligned our goals were, and how well we worked together. A ying and yang if you will, we decided to take our partnership to the next level and start to train other agents, and in less than a year we have over a dozen agents who have grown with us, crushing every obstacle that has come in our path. Ron also has another career, a wife and father of 2 children but has managed to continually be a top agent on Long Island proving what a force in the industry he is. In this episode we dive in to how we got to where we are, the strategy we made, and where we see the team going in the future. Lots of great info to be found, so get ready for a highly anticipated show that you are sure to enjoy and get a ton of value out of.Make sure to follow Ron on Social Media at @RonZimmerman_RealEstate
In this episode I sit down with Ron, Kevin, and Tom of Rank MI Vote. Rank MI Vote is a non-partisan, politically diverse, non-profit organization dedicated to educating the Michigan public about electoral reforms that increase the range of choice on the ballot and produce fairer outcomes. Rank MI Vote advocates for the expanded use of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), which allows voters to rank the candidates on the ballot in order of preference. RCV would make Michigan elections more competitive and fair by encouraging the participation of more candidates and parties, and by ensuring outcomes that more accurately reflect the will of the voters. Ron Zimmerman! Duncan Fegredo! Ultimate Adventures #1-6! Aaaannd that's literally all the excitement I could muster for this episode. Brace yourselves, because this one's a real Journey Into Misery, as we chronicle the adventures of the Ultimate Universe's lazy answer to Batman, and the child sidekick that will make you want to go back in time and vote for Joker to bash HIS skull in with a crowbar. At least the art is good. The rest is but a masochistic memory. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohgoditburns/message
With only one more major story left in Ron Zimmerman's comics career, Nik and Bruno dedicate this episode to running down the scattered one-shots and backups that Joe Quesada gave him to keep Ronny busy until he got the hint and stopped calling. Surprisingly, the highs are really high - classic, even - but the low points? Man... those low points are LEGENDARY! So join us as we ride these bombs like Dr. Strangelove as we run down: Spider-Man's Tanged Web #13 Punisher #8 Startling Stories: The Thing Spider-Man and Jay Leno: One Night Only Spider-Man: Sweet Charity So hit up your local comics shop, but just remember to swing by CVS to pick up some burn ointment, because these turds are on FIRE. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohgoditburns/message
After a surprisingly enjoyable first two episodes, Nik and Bruno are back to see if Ron Zimmerman can keep it up (*wink*) with the sequel seven years in the making: Rawhide Kid: Sensation Seven 1-4. Along the way we lost legendary artist John Severin, but we gained another comics master in Howard Chaykin. But is his beautiful rendition of the wild west enough to save this mini-series from Zimmerman's most tired comedic impulses? Well, no. But it sure does look purty. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohgoditburns/message
KEVIN ROONEY ("My Wife and Kids," "When Harry Met Sally," "Dennis Miller Live") continues his interview with Barry Katz as he is joined by fellow writers Jimmy Vallely and Ron Zimmerman to talk about working on "Arrested Development," "Dennis Miller Live," and "My Wife and Kids."
Ron Zimmerman proved himself a worthy forerunner of the #MeToo era with Get Kraven, but is he a friend of the gays? Ron Zimmermonth continues as Nik and Bruno slap leather and saddle up for a ride out to the wild west in 2003's MAX revival of the Rawhide Kid! This 5-issue "mature readers" series gained notoriety for becoming the first to feature an openly gay title character (sorry Northstar), only to become infamous for its disappointing handling of the material. But even though this series has become a punchline in the modern comics community, there is still some fun to be had in these pages as Zimmerman tries out his best Mel Brooks impersonation and shoots from the hip in this LGBTQ successor to Blazing Saddles. So giddyup, pard'ner, and remember to wear yer oven mitts, cuz it's about to get fuh-laming on this week's episode of OH GOD IT BURNS!!! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohgoditburns/message
On this first episode of OH GOD IT BURNS, Nik and Bruno look back at one of the most forgettable Spider-Man movie tie-ins from 2002 and come to realization that it may be one of the most culturally important pieces of literature published in the past 20 years! This comic tries to takes down the Weinsteins, y'all. No joke. Long before Rose McGowan launched a public movement against Harvey Weinstein, television writer Ron Zimmerman (he of 7th Heaven and Action and dating Cher) was making his big break at Marvel Comics, heralded by Joe Quesada himself. He came in at a time when Hollywood writers of the likes of Kevin Smith and J. Michael Strasczynski were steering the industry toward into the NuMarvel age of comics. He came out swinging with hot takedowns, but ended up flailing when it came to writing anything that was actually... good? Which begs the question: If the #MeToo movement started in a Spider-Man comic that nobody read, does it still count as a key issue? That, intrepid listeners, is a question only the Ebay marketplace can answer. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohgoditburns/message

This is Matthew Aaron, himself, writing this blurb. I can promise you right now, you don't want to miss this show. Ron Zimmerman and Howard Stern were the guys growing up that I wanted to emulate. I first heard of Ron ON The Howard Stern Show. Ron is a writer out in Hollywood. He has written for many sitcoms and has also acted and produced here and there. He wrote the comic-book series "Ultimate Adventures", which is sort of an odd spoof/character parody of "Batman and Robin" and was wildly popular. I don't want to tell you too much about Ron. I just want to tell you to tune in. I've been looking forward to this for months. I can promise you right now, there won't be a dull moment. I'm truly thankful Ron is doing this show. I've interviewed a lot of people that inspire and admire me, but never someone I've connected so much with. And he probably has NO idea. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
