Please note: Like how Death Proof uses fake film grain to make it seem like it's an older movie, only to stop doing it halfway through, Laci and Matt's audio improves halfway through this episode. You might not even notice the audio isn't great in the first half... but if you do, just know it gets better eventually. Friend of the Show Cinema Chris joins Laci and Matt to talk about Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (2007). Originally a 90-minute movie presented as part of a double feature alongside Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror, Death Proof now stands on its own (in an expanded edition) as one of the more fascinating entries in Tarantino's filmography. We discuss the beautiful animal that is Kurt Russell, Rose McGowan's captivating pronunciation of “chocolate milk,” and how much joy there is to be had in a car going vroom-vroom real fast. Long before folks enjoyed watching oddball viral videos on the Internet, the only way to see these outrageous movies was to share physical video cassette tapes from person to person. One of the stars of this tape sharing phenomenon was musician Jan Terri, whose wonderfully weird music videos got the attention of a lot of people, including celebrities Marilyn Manson and his girlfriend at the time Rose McGowan. Manson even had Jan open for him in concert. After taking some time off for personal reasons, Jan made a spectacular comeback in the early days of YouTube when the video for her song “Losing You” became a hit as the “Worst Music Video Ever.” It still ranks as the top video for the term, with 5.9 million views to date.Today counterculture legend Jan Terri joins us to look at her roller coaster life in music, putting out a children's book and a cookbook for folks living in dorms and life as an accidental internet superstar, long before there was an Internet. Send us a textThe Diddy Chronicles Part 2Content Warning. ***This podcast discusses child sexual abuse.***The P. Diddy-Oprah connection is a complex web of alleged associations, controversies, and accusations. Rose McGowan has criticized Oprah for purportedly turning a blind eye to the actions of figures like Russell Simmons, Harvey Weinstein, and P. Diddy. Similarly, 50 Cent has suggested that Oprah and Gayle King protect only black men who are part of the Illuminati, hinting at a deeper conspiracy. Recent events, including the raid on Diddy's property and rumors surrounding Jay Z and Beyonce's relationship, have added fuel to these speculations. Reports also suggest a darker side to Diddy, with claims of him being willing to resort to violence to protect himself and allegations of inappropriate behavior towards individuals like Orlando Brown.Furthermore, the connections extend to figures like Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant, and even Chris Brown, with accusations of Oprah's and Gayle's involvement in posthumous attacks and media scrutiny. Corey Gamble's association with Diddy raises questions about his role in the industry, particularly concerning his involvement with Justin Bieber. Additionally, Lou Taylor, a prominent figure in entertainment management, has been linked to various controversies, including allegations of exploiting vulnerable individuals and connections to Kris Jenner and the Kardashian family. The intricate network of relationships and allegations suggests a deeper undercurrent within the entertainment industry, where power, influence, and secrecy intersect.TakeawaysEverything discussed is based on allegations and speculation. The Diddy Chronicles reveal deeper connections to other celebrities.Oprah's involvement in protecting certain individuals raises questions. The entertainment industry is portrayed as a toxic environment for women and children. There are claims of manipulation and grooming within the industry. The hosts express concern for the safety of those who speak out.Kanye West's comments about trauma and monetization resonate with the discussion. The conversation highlights the need for accountability in Hollywood. The impact of celebrity culture on societal norms is critically examined. The episode encourages listeners to question the narratives presented by mainstream media.titlesSupport the show
It's a 4K-packed week with classics of the genuine and cult variety with Peter Sobczynski catching you up on the week's physical media releases. There are titles from the emerging queer cinema of the ‘90s as well as, arguably, the best of the Todd Solondz oeuvre. There will be little argument about the best of British comedies and Peter makes one for what he considers may be the finest final film of any directorial career. Sidney Lumet does Agatha Christie justice and John Carpenter remakes a sci-fi classic. There is Woody Allen, Bob Hope and Elisabeth Shue facing off against a chimpanzee. Finally, Brian DePalma gets an upgrade on one of his most underappreciated, albeit controversial, films. 0:00 - Intro 1:08 – Criterion (Happiness 4K, Gregg Araki Teen Apocalypse Trilogy 4K) 27:08 – Mediabook (Go Fish 4K) 33:42 – Paramount (Stardust 4K) 38:44 – Kino (My Favorite Spy, The Ladykillers 4K, Murder on the Orient Express 4K, Link 4K) 1:11:16 - Warner Archive (Journey Into Fear, Conflict, A Prairie Home Companion) 1:29:51 – Shout Factory (Village of the Damned 4K) 1:37:25 – MGM (A Midsummer's Night Sex Comedy, September) 1:52:04 – Sony (Body Double 4K) 2:12:43 – New TV & Theatrical Blu-ray Releases 2:19:33 – New Blu-ray Announcements 2:22:09 - Outro

That's right, cheese is all you need when celebrating this pizza holiday. Whether the pie is homemade or ordered in, make it cheese only. Add a variety of cheeses to your pie to celebrate. Smokey gouda or a little gorgonzola might mix it up. If you like a little cheddar, mild or sharp shredded across the top will do. Debates prevail over thin or thick crust. However, that debate is for another day. The cheese holds the spotlight on this occasion. In fact, thin-crust doesn't even have a day. How did that happen? We've hit a big milestone, Spookies! It's officially our 200th episode, and we wanted to do something special to celebrate. We weren't sure what, though, so we left our movie selection up to our listeners and Patrons, and they decided to throw it back to Scary Movie (2000). The Wayans family's parody flick took on some of the major horror franchises of the '90s, and its inclusion in our line-up was timed perfectly to I Know What You Did Last

Shannen Doherty has died at the age of 53. After a long and hard-fought battle with breast cancer, the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star passed away over the weekend. Since the news broke, online tributes have poured in from all over, including some touching ones from former co-stars like Brian Austin Green and Rose McGowan. Even Alyssa Milano - who Shannen had a well-publicized feud with while working together on “Charmed” - paid her respects online. Even though her life was cut way too short, she did leave quite a legacy.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Some great titles to put into your physical media library this week and Peter Sobczynski is here with Erik Childress to help guide you through them. It all begins with one of the great films of the 1980s that put Tom Cruise on the path to stardom. Tom Hanks missed an Oscar nom but delivered one of his best performances for Paul Greengrass and Ang Lee did get the Oscar but the Academy went for another film in 2005. There are also vehicles for Burt Reynolds, Dirk Benedict and the film that Ben Affleck was the bomb in. Other underground dwellers can be found at bikini bottom and Criterion also has a pair of Wim Wenders films. Finally there are new 4K editions of one of the great sci-fi classics and the entire series that carries the name of the beloved character created by Sylvester Stallone. 0:00 - Intro 1:07 - Criterion (Risky Business, Perfect Days, Anselm) 24:52 – Kino (Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) 4K, Underground Aces, Paternity, Columbo: The Return, Brokeback Mountain 4K) 1:03:39 – Paramount (The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 4K) 1:07:46 – Sony (Captain Philips 4K) 1:12:39 – Shout Factory (Phantoms 4K) 1:18:15 – Warner Bros. Content Warning. The intricate network of relationships and allegations suggests a deeper undercurrent within the entertainment industry, where power, influence, and secrecy intersect.

Make way for Satan in heels, but don't be petrified! Mark welcomes horror artist and movie lover Clark Felix (@clarkmakesart87) to chat about the cruel politics of high school and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the dark comedy Jawbreaker. The twisted and campy Darren Stein film was Heathers on a sugar high and Mean Girls before Mean Girls, with a perfect cast, colorful costumes, nods to classic movies, and dialogue that slays. Clark wonders if they would join the Flawless Four if Rose McGowan offered them the chance, and Mark wonders how many licks does a jawbreaker that big even take? Also, the 1998 guilty pleasure Devil in the Flesh gets a shout-out!
Elizabeth joins Caitlin to talk about 1996's Scream, a movie that invigorated not just the slasher subgenre, but horror on the whole. We discuss meta storytelling, satire, subversion, and final girls, and we give Scream all the love it deserves. Tangents include: bangs, ghostface mask ideas, socks, driving, sirens in songs, the rock-and-roller to children's-performer pipeline, lady tropes in horror, and spooking yourself with creepypastas late at night.
In this latest episode of the Deep Dive spinoff, Gaius is joined by Mario Mello of @movieswithmrmario on Instagram to take a trip back to 1999 and have a darkly hilarious romp with the girls of Jawbreaker. Directed and written by Darren Stein, the film stars Rose McGowan, Rebecca Gayheart, Julie Benz, and Judy Greer and it follows three of the most popular girls at Reagan High who accidentally kill one of their best friends with a jawbreaker when a kidnapping prank goes horribly wrong. Happy Spooky Season!!! My favorite time of the year! This year I decided to feature one of my all time favorite films, Scream. I literally watch this film every 3 months, sometimes more often, and it holds a very special place in my heart. Imdb plot reads: A year after the murder of her mother, a teenage girl is terrorized by a masked killer who targets her and her friends by using scary movies as part of a deadly game. Starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Jamie Kennedy, and Drew Barrymore. Directed by Wes Craven- I feel this film redefined the horror genre. The slasher style, and nods to former horror films makes the commentary so fun and spooky. It also begs the question, "What's your favorite scary movie?". I'm joined by my good friend Claire White from Why the Flick? podcast. She is so much fun to talk to and very knowledgable about films.
