Laci and Matt are broadcasting to you from a cabin in the woods, where they're eating canned cat food with oven mitts, trying to dodge that pesky Grim Reaper. But the rats need their cheese, so here's a new episode about Final Destination (2000). (You're the rat, I guess.) It's the movie that launched one of the great horror franchises. A franchise that Matt posits is Friday the 13th for the decade of the 2000s. This series has it all: Primitive cell phones! Internet research on big ole computers! And nu-metal, nu-metal, nu-metal. And it all started here, with this movie that began life as an X-Files spec script and, even in its final form, has forgotten to take the X-Files out. That's not a bad thing. The Washington State Senate expanded hate crime protections but left out some extra protections that Republicans had vouched for. Washington State Sen. Emily Alvarado, D-Seattle, is facing an ethics complaint for allegedly violating laws regarding her role with Enterprise Community Partners, a group lobbying for the bill she sponsors, Engrossed House Bill 1217. Conservative activist Glen Morgan of We The Governed recently filed the complaint, alleging that Alvarado violated state laws (RCW 42.52.020 and RCW 42.52.110) due to her role as Vice President. He argues that Alvarado has a conflict of interest, as legislators are prohibited from holding certain positions with organizations that engage in lobbying.
“I've got a bad feeling about this.”Han Solo (wait…wrong franchise!)Ever just get one of those feelings? A faint chill, a little crawling of the skin that tells you that maybe the path you're currently on is the wrong one and that something terrible is about to happen. You've heard the saying “like someone just walked over my grave,” right? Well, some Hollywood genius decided to build an entire film franchise around this concept with Final Destination and the franchise is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary and gearing up to release its sixth film (Final Destination Bloodlines) later this year! That first Final Destination movie is packed with memorable moments. And gruesome as some of them are, most of the deaths in Final Destination are things we've all lost sleep over, whether it's a mid-air disaster, a bus accident, and others. But unlike other horror movies, it isn't about the deaths so much as it is about Death…the very personification of Death, who isn't amused when someone sees what's coming and escapes their fate. And while you probably don't have to worry too much about Death itself taking revenge on you, the concept of precognition, the ability to see or sense events before they happen, isn't as far-fetched as you might think. We have a scientist to dig into that, and a pop culture expert to make sure that Death's plans all vibe on screen. What have our hosts foreseen? Check out the latest episode of Does it Fly? to find out!https://youtu.be/fOHjYRr4S_ISUGGESTED VIEWING There are five (currently released) Final Destination movies, but we focused our discussion this episode on the first film, 2000's Final Destination from director James Wong who also had a hand in the screenplay with Glen Morgan and Jeffrey Reddick.FURTHER READING Do you want to delve a little deeper into the facts, concepts, and stories Hakeem and Tamara referenced in today's episode? Of course you do! Clairvoyance and PrecognitionJust like Hakeem says about his own experiences, scientific study of these phenomena isn't getting laughed out of the room in academia these days. Will that continue? Well, we've got a feeling…Cognition + Time = ?To be fair, Hakeem didn't present this exactly as an equation, but these are the two key components of precognition. Key to this is “the relativity of simultaneity” which has weirdly come up in other episodes, but is particularly relevant here. See also: The Andromeda ParadoxQuantum EntanglementWe're not entirely sure we follow Hakeem here, but it seems to involve both you and your future self. Which isn't strictly the definition of quantum entanglement, but it's still pretty awesome! The True Story of Final Destination Well…sorta! But as Tamara pointed out, one of the writers did indeed have this movie percolating for a while because of an allegedly real event. Imagine how different things would have been had this movie only ended up as an episode of The X-Files. It could have happened!WANT MORE FROM DOES IT FLY?We try not to do TOO many horror movie episodes, lest we incur Tamara's wrath, but check out our episodes on Smile (for some more weird modern horror) and The Wolf Man (for some classic monster action)!FOLLOW US!Stay in the loop! In this final episode of our Merry Bingemas series, we dive deep into the chilling world of “Black Christmas,” the groundbreaking 1974 horror film directed by Bob Clark, and it's 2006 remake, directed by Glen Morgan. Join us as we explore how this flick, featuring standout performances by Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, and John Saxon, redefined the slasher genre long before it became mainstream. We discuss the film's innovative storytelling, its haunting atmosphere, and the impact it has had on both horror films and holiday traditions. As a fun little experiment, we compare the original film to the 2006 remake and see what changes were made in modernizing the story and if any of those changes resulted in a better take on the horror classic. What is clear is that “Black X-Mas” 2006 may have received negative reviews upon release and didn't light the box office on fire but it has turned into a cult classic among horror fans who have embraced it for all of its guilty pleasure slasher movie thrills. With a cast that includes Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Oliver Hudson, Lacey Chabert, Kristen Cloke, and Crystal Lowe, the 2006 certainly has its appeal but how does it stack up today and against the 1974 original? Listen in to find out! In addition, this episode marks the return of co-host Jackson Pye full time following a very busy school schedule! Welcome back Jackson! Where To Watch Black Christmas (1974) Where To Watch Black Christmas (2006)
Merry Christmas!! Today, Alec, Erik, and Returning Guest Joe Testa dive into the 2006 remake of Black Christmas, well, Erik accidentally watched the 1974 version, so that's fun! But still, black Christmas 2006 is a holiday horror film that turns the season of joy into a twisted tale of suspense and terror. Directed by Glen Morgan, this film brings a fresh, sinister take on the 1974 classic, amplifying the gore, tension, and psychological horror. We explore the film's themes of trauma, revenge, and isolation, and how it blends the festive cheer of Christmas with the brutality of slasher horror. Was this remake a misunderstood gem or a holiday horror misfire? We'll also look at its cast, the visual style, and how Black Christmas fits into the broader history of holiday-themed horror films. So grab some eggnog, dim the lights, and join us as we unwrap some dark and bloody secrets and see where this in stands in the pantheon of Christmas horrors! We're trimming the tree of terror with Glen Morgan, as he spills his guts about the making of the BLACK CHRISTMAS remake. Hear how his yuletide vision turned into a chilling battle against the Weinsteins, and the price he paid to bring this holiday horror to life. With stories about on-set shivers, his wife's scream-worthy scenes, and the fallout of fan fury, this is one sinister stocking stuffer you'll want to open right away. Deck the halls with guts and folly, it's about to get Spooky!
It's time for the next iteration of Black Christmas with the 2006 version from X-files veteran Glen Morgan. This...this one is very different. Very VERY different.

Eliza Janssen (Midnight Screening podcast) and Tansy Gardam (Going Rogue Podcast) join Flixwatcher to review Eliza's choice Final Destination. Final Destination (2000) is the first film in the Final Destination horror franchise. It stars Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, and Tony Todd and is directed by James (Jet Li's The One) Wong and written by Wong and Glen Morgan. After having a premonition of a mid air plane explosion Alex cheats death by being thrown off. Several of his classmates and his teacher all end up leaving as well. Death, intent on completing the plan, starts picking off the survivors in the order they were meant to die. The Final Destination franchise is framed for its elaborate and red herring filled death sequences that are both wince inducing and comical. The deaths might be gory but the tone is never too serious. The recommendability for Final Destination reflects the widely held opinion that while Final Destination is fun it isn't the best in the franchise. With a runtime of 98 minutes scores for repeat and engagement were pretty solid to give an overall rating of 4.02. Sorry about the Audio- Beef and Rum Daddy had issues :/ Following the release of The Matrix in 1999, Hollywood saw an explosion of martial arts-focused action movies. Riding that wave was Chinese actor Jet Li, who made his first American-made film debut in Lethal Weapon 4 and went on to star in Kiss of the Dragon, Romeo Must Die and this dimension-hopping cop movie. Starring as both the hero and villain - the last two variants who have absorbed the energy from their murdered counterparts - Li faces off against himself with Jason Statham, Delroy Lindo, and Carla Gugino rounding out the cast. The film also tapped into a modern rock sound with Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Godsmack, and Papa Roach. Directed by James Wong and co-written by Wong with Glen Morgan, the film was neither a box office nor critical hit. While it may be the best of the Matrix variants in this universe, in the end there can be only The One! The Left is not content to own the West or East Coast; they are expanding. In states they own, like the separate country of Wshintown, you can see what they are. My good friend, Glen Morgan is one of the best conservative activists in the country. He joined us to talk about two candidates in Washington state who have the same name: Bob Ferguson. That happens to be the name of the Attorney General of that state. Gen Morgan reminded us of what it is like having AG Bob Ferguson in office and how he has threatened these other candidates with jail time for daring to run against him. What does God's Word say? We talk about Washington because it is the model state for how a one party tyranny works. Everything they do there is meant to be exported. If you do not understand that, you will never understand how unsafe your state is. In my opinion, Glen Morgan is the best Conservative activist in Washington and maybe the nation. He, along with Brian Heywood, have just had a series of victories where Democrats were forced to make three initiatives into law. Glen shares with us about these wins and what is waking up weak Republicans. What does God's Word say? We're back, yinz little sugar plums, and servin up some knuckle sammies for a rumble...A Black Christmas Remake Rumble! In this corner we have Bob Clark's 1974 original, and in the other, Glen Morgan's 2006 remake! So grab some eggnog and deck the balls, or whatever, and find out which one wins the holiday slugfest, on this episode of Monster Candy Podcast!
To keep the momentum going from last week's episode, this week we covered the 2006 remake of the same title to compare notes between the two films and eras of horror in general.
Philip and Andy whip up some morgue nog and get set to have a Messy Christmas by loudly telling anyone who will listen that they were wrong about Glen Morgan and James Wong's misunderstood 2006 remake of a holiday horror classic.
