It's time for another great doubleheader week in Episode #638 as Wayne talks with Sandy King Carpenter from Storm King Comics, then Jeff Haas returns to talk The End of All: Terminus #1 & 2 on Kickstarter! Everything kicks off with my fun interview with Sandy King Carpenter, who heads Storm King Comics! Here's how this group is described: “Along with her husband, director John Carpenter, Sandy King focuses on bringing the best writers from the worlds of comics, movies, and novels to bring their special brand of horror and sci-fi entertainment to comics.” We talk about who produced the excellent comics they're making, including the very-soon-to-be-released second volume of the Fetch series for younger readers as well as Long Haul from Cullen Bunn and Heath Amodio, and explore what else is coming soon from these high-power creators! Be sure you pick up the first and second volumes of Fetch from your local comics shop or through the Storm King Comics website! Then it all concludes with the return of Jeff Haas, who has a new Kickstarter underway for the first and second issues of The End of All: Terminus. Here's the description: “The Universe is dying. The "Great Rip" is tearing it apart. Now the last seven sentient species in the universe attempt a daring escape aboard the spaceship, Terminus. However, these species' existence together is anything but harmonious as each vie for control. Only a few will survive until the end.” Jeff catches us up on the latest Terminus news and other crowdfunding events, then we discuss how this story came to be, who the characters are, and what else Jeff has heading our way in the months ahead! Be sure to back this Kickstarter before it concludes on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. EDT. Show your thanks to Major Spoilers for this episode by becoming a Major Spoilers Patreon member. It will help ensure Wayne's Comics Podcast continues far into the future!

You've heard her name mentioned in countless past Dear Watchers episodes so we were thrilled to sit down with legendary comic book letterer Janice Chiang to discuss her amazing life and career including her activist beginnings, her long tenure at Marvel, the role of a letterer and how it has changed in the digital age, breaking ground as a woman and Chinese-American in the comic book industry, how to stay current 40 years into a career and her current work with Sandy King and John Carpenter's Storm King Productions. Ep. 91 Creator Interview with Janice Chiang (*this version corrected the audio issue the first download had)Janice has over 40 years in the comic business, and has certainly had a significant impact on our listeners through her work on over 2000 books. Janice is a letterer and sometimes colorist who has worked primarily at Marvel starting in the early 1980s. She has worked on thousands of issues, including for Marvel: Iron Man, Ghost Rider, Alpha Flight, Conan, Defenders, Ka-Zar, Rom, Thor, Shang-Chi, Quasar, and of course the book that was an inspiration for us - What If. She has also worked with Stan Lee's Pow Entertainment, Dark Horse, TokyoPop, Archie, plus a lot of work with Storm King, and for DC the Super Hero Girls book series, some early Milestone books, Batman, Impulse, Superman, and the recent Lazarus Planet one-shots. Two graphic novels she worked on were in the Four-Word Indie Awards chosen out of 2500 submissions, so Janice is on a hit streak! And wait that's not all: she has been a community organizer! #57 Sandy King Louisiana born and bred, lover and teacher of Spanish literature, citizen of the world, fine art printer, abstract landscape photographer…..oh and did I mention he also loved staining developers so much that he developed his own? I first became aware of Sandy King as, like many others, I began investigating Pyro staining developers. There is much, much more to Sandy than his work developing PyrocatHD and today we scratch away at the surface. Sandy's links http://www.sandykingphotography.com/ Things we chatted about on the show: As we are chatting I can see Erik Mathy moving his fingers over his keyboard as he sends links to us all via our messenger chat . He seems to be able to pick up on things the guest is saying, do the Google research and send the links over and still keep track of the conversation....clearly he isn't a proper male! http://meetingbenches.com/2020/03/the-perfect-past-jose-ortiz-echague-aesthetics-and-photographic-techniques-of-pictorialism-gum-bichromate-and-coal/?fbclid=IwAR1k9jt-bQqVNegLAwSzeC2BxdQAffWcToBAG_d14ipnyJk4wrYfOs9WGrE https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1144285.The_Keepers_of_Light_A_History_Working_Guide_to_Early_Photographic_Processes?fbclid=IwAR0PklWhjdNfcEg1xoVtEHpBJVYUEYVvBlMS2O5FJ1XiJ3hO57LpUp9tlXM https://groups.io/g/carbon?fbclid=IwAR2deRdt4MKE_ANQBbyE6k2u3Qp4TtCiR2H4E4sIYZbYG8a8FoLEL7QbSB4 https://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/?fbclid=IwAR0x1u-gqvqZ2rDcR5KLD7p7SXVh721RdV8LNy0SzxEaCjniRfdp29PXXd4 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Golden_Age_theatre?fbclid=IwAR2PPay1VXxeem_N5CiYQOw3IJG427SNqdE_fMIVdltX9Nb9AGfq2-f26LY Sandy mentioned Sam Wang a few times – I hope I have the correct person here – either way it's pretty interesting. https://www.alternativephotography.com/sam-wang-review/ Phil Davis, author of Beyond The Zone System is a book that I have but despite several attempts remains impenetrable to me. Episode 243: The Crew's wearing sunglasses while watching John Carpenter's They Live. Carpenter's last film of the 80's takes the decade of greed to task. Yes, this is a big action film starring a wrestler who can see aliens when he puts on sunglasses. But the social commentary punches just as hard as Roddy Piper. The film wasn't a big hit, but has since become a huge cult film. The alien's simple black and white brainwashing ads are still used in political satire to this day. The Crew discusses. Episode 240: The Crew's taking a road trip to Hobb's End while watching John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness. It's the first theatrically released John Carpenter horror film of the 90's. And the film lives up to the hype. Sam Neill stars as an insurance investigator, who may be a fictional character in a horror writer's new novel. The Crew discusses. “A traditional photographer, Jim specialises in monochrome Carbon Transfer Contact Printing from in camera negatives. Carbon Transfer printing, a process perfected by Joseph Swan in 1864, is a highly labour intensive process that yields prints of the finest quality. The artist has total control of the image tonality due to the creative blending of pigments used to manufacture the carbon tissue which is used to complete his vision. From this tissue the image is born. Carbon prints require a minimum of four or more days work to produce one finished print. Truly a labor of love and passion. Jim teaches carbon transfer printing and offers workshops in his studio/darkroom at his home in Vancouver Washington”. Things we chatted about on the show: Jim got his inspiration from his friend Vaughn who runs workshops with Jim in Yosemite National Park. http://vaughnhutchins.com/ Making negatives from PyrocatHD a very popular staining developer much favoured by all who use alternative photographic processes.
