The Pal's X Graham Scott Fleming Episode 222 While beginning to craft his unique sound in the country genre, Graham found an incredible career in Broadway, landing the lead role of Charlie in “Kinky Boots,” and working directly with Cindy Lauper. He soon moved to NYC to fully emerge himself in his broadway career, which led to an international tour with “Hair” and performing at the Tony Awards. Growing up in Elmvale, ON, Graham would have no idea when he won a local singing contest in high school that music and performance would become such an internal part of his life. Following his Broadway run, Graham returned home in 2020 and continued to pursue a solo career in the genre that raised him. After earning a Top 40 single at country radio as an independent artist with the release of “Better Man,” he signed a record deal with Open Road Recordings and RGK Entertainment in 2022. Having written with some of Canada's most promising songwriters such as Robyn Ottolini, Lydia Sutherland, and Vanessa Marie Carter, and opening for Canadian country legacy acts such as High Valley, Deric Ruttan, and Aaron Pritchett, Graham's music has received major play listing placements such as Apple Music's Country Risers, Canada's Country, Trailblazers, and Country Wide, Amazon Music's Country Hits and Just North of Nashville, YouTube Music's Country Now and Canadian Country Moment and Spotify's Fresh Finds Country. One of the most promising new voices in country, Graham Scott Fleming is only getting started. (SEASON 2 EP. 28) GRAHAM SCOTT FLEMING ACTOR, SINGER, BROADWAY STAR, JOCK The moment we've all been waiting for…. Graham Scott Fleming is FINALLY on Country with Celine!! For this episode I've kept it RAW (unedited). Reason being is, Graham and I had a long chat but what we touched on along the way are topics you should hear. For example.. Law of Attraction. Don't get me wrong we chat all things Graham. If his name is new to you, you're definitely going to want to get to know him. In high school Graham was pretty much a jock with a musical side.. If you're thinking it, yes pretty much the real life Troy Bolton. I don't want to give too much away so all I'm going to say is, Graham is an actor who's starred on BROADWAY, been in those cheesy but feel good HallMark Christmas movies (Love You Like Christmas) and also wrote the title track. However; regardless of his acting career, Graham knows he belongs in country music and he is making a name for himself, let me tell you that!! “Deja Vu” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rowbpcFMWxE&t=3s “Better Man” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2hEBE_hl-8 “High Life” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAn_Pyg8wns SOCIALS: INSTA: https://www.instagram.com/grahamsfleming/?hl=en WEB: https://www.grahamscottfleming.com __ Intro Music by Jack Vandervelde - Georgia - https://thmatc.co/?l=82F1F26E Intro Created by https://www.instagram.com/bookitediting/ @bookitediting _______________ FOLLOW & KEEP UP with COUNTRY WITH CELINE: Insta: https://www.instagram.com/countrywithceline/ Web: https://countrywithceline.ca Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/country-with-celine/id1563285858 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0ULNqzQp0Tw0Jv4g0Rtjxz --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/countrywithceline/message

This weeks Ranch Spotlight shines on....Graham Scott Fleming!!!Tune in everyday this week around 11:50am to hear his brand new single “Déjà Vu”!Graham joins Jackie on air this Thursday during the 11am hour to chat all about his career!"Graham Scott Fleming is a singer/songwriter from Elmvale, Ontario with a voice that is unlikely to be forgotten. After winning first place in a competition called North of Nashville star in 2011, Graham's career as an independent artist was launched. From there he hit the ground running and didn't look back. He began writing his own original music which eventually led him to open for acts like Derrick Ruttan, High Valley, and Jason Blaine. He has also had the opportunity to collaborate and co-write with such names as Jason McCoy, Jane Bach, Phil Barton, JT harding and many others.Graham released his first EP ‘Young Wild & Free' in 2016, at a time which could easily be described as a slightly ‘chaotic' period in Graham's life! Not only was Graham writing original music and planning an EP release, he was starring as Charlie Price in Mirvish's production of Kinky Boots. Kinky Boots was a smash hit in Toronto running for 2+ years, and was extended three times due to the success of the show. Graham was nominated for a Dora Award for Best Male Actor in a musical for his memorable performance. After Kinky Boots closed in Toronto, Graham made a big move to NYC where he made his Broadway debut in Miss Saigon. Between NYC and Ontario, Graham also starred in such shows as the Canadian Premier of Ghost: The Musical, the World premier of Jukebox Hero, and the World Premier of My Very Own British Invasion plus snagged a supporting lead role in a Hallmark movie called Love You Like Christmas, where he wrote original music for the film score. Needless to say, Graham has had a pretty incredible run in many sectors of the music industry, which he is forever grateful for. Missing his small-town roots and the music he grew up listening to, Graham is emerging himself back into the country music scene with a 2021 release of his new single ‘Déjå Vu.' More details on the full EP, produced by the boys of The Agenda, will be released in the near future, but for now Graham is gearing up for an exciting new single release for the first time in four years. Influenced by duo Dan & Shay, these tunes are sure to have you belting out loud and catching all the feels. It's been a long and difficult year for many due to the pandemic, and Graham is hopeful that things will start to look up in 2021. One thing is for sure - music will always be there to provide that much needed positivity and light, and Graham hopes sharing his stories through music will do just that. Be sure to check out his new single ‘Déjå Vu' on all streaming platforms - out everywhere!! Don't forget to follow along the journey on Instagram @grahamsfleming!"

Women in black: Female referees and the battle against sexism in football

The Football and Society Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 3, 2021 38:31

As women's football has grown in popularity, there has been a corresponding growth in attention on female players, yet little attention has been paid to non-playing roles. One recent study, however, explored the experiences of female officials in men's amateur football in the UK. Alison Forbes, Lisa Edwards, and Scott Fleming explored the experiences of four officials in Warwickshire and Somerset. They used participant observation and in-depth interviews to analyse the techniques employed by female officials to overcome hostile attitudes and sexist abuse. The study identified tensions between the officials' gendered and refereeing identities; in the face of sexist comments, some participants noted that male officials also encounter abuse and considered it normal in football for people to criticise officials in this way. However, the participants also felt that they were representing female football officials in general when they officiated, and there was therefore additional pressure to conquer negative stereotypes concerning women's participation. Because of this negative stereotyping, it is argued that female officials must actually perform better than their male counterparts to become accepted within male football culture. The authors state that, while women remain a minority within men's football, if female officials do not complain about or confront abusers there is little incentive to rid the sport of sexism; it also means that other female officials in the future, especially those younger and with less confidence, may suffer as a result. To what extent are female officals' performances scrutinised to an extent that would never happen with a male official? What are the FA and football authorities doing to empower referees and help them combat abuse? How far away are we from female managers working in the men's game, and how might this improve the standing of female referees? ...all this and more in the ninth episode of the Football and Society podcast. *** If you like the podcast, please subscribe and give us a review via your platform of choice.
