The 1939–1940 New York World's Fair was a world's fair held at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York, United States. It was the second-most expensive American world's fair of all time, exceeded only by St. Louis's Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904. Many countries around the world participated in it, and over 44 million people attended its exhibits in two seasons.[2] It was the first exposition to be based on the future, with an opening slogan of "Dawn of a New Day", and it allowed all visitors to take a look at "the world of tomorrow". Our theme song was written and performed by Anna Bosnick. If you'd like to support the show on a per episode basis, you can find our Patreon page here. Be sure to check our website for more details.

In this fascinating episode, Rob and Ileana are joined by Alex González, the once banned from Instagram, Latin America Editor at Rest of World. Rest of World is an international nonprofit journalism organization. They document what happens when technology, culture and the human experience collide, in places that are typically overlooked and underestimated. Alex shares his really unique perspective on the entrepreneurial economy, broader cultural realities and human stories of Mexico and Latin America with us, from his view as a journalist and storyteller. He's a a deep thinker, a long form writer, a bit of a historian, storyteller, publisher, researcher and Cheese monger- some might say, a modern day renaissance man. He shares his interests in the "seismic difference" that technology makes in the world and it's in that where he's found his curiosity satiated, not in the products or technology themselves. He's brutally honest in his assessment of the hype fueled, unicorn chasing fomo culture of "startups" while still being fascinated by the people behind them and the people who consume their services or products. Does nature always know best? Yuval Noah Harari and Slavoj Žižek debate. Looking for a link we mentioned? It's here: https://linktr.ee/philosophyforourtimesMost think of nature as good, while humans and human interventions are often seen as problematic and even on occasion evil. From eradicating e-numbers from our diets to refusing vaccines, many are motivated by the idea that nature knows best.Yet malaria is natural, the malaria vaccine is not. Crop failure, hurricanes, tsunamis - all are deadly, and all natural. Human actions are essential to extend and save lives from natural calamity. Is our attachment to nature undermining belief in ourselves? Should we have more faith in the human and less trust in nature? Or, are we right to be sceptical of human intervention and should we see the renewed reverence for nature as a positive return to an ancient and essential belief? Then again, should we accept that we are part of the natural world, and give up on the false distinction between real and artificial, natural and unnatural?World-famous intellectual Yuval Noah Harari and firebrand philosopher Slavoj Žižek debate whether nature is friend or foe. Welcome back you regularly scheduled podcast. After celebrating Troy's birthday…yet again, the guys are back reexamining some of the biggest financial bombs in cinematic history. This week, the gangs goes all diselpunk, and discusses 2004's science fiction action-adventure film - Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Fan-favorite and host of The Gentlemen's Guide to Midnite Cinema, Sammy, is back to assist in talks about Call Signs, Goopy Paltrow and lead characters with zero chemistry. Also, Troy partied too hard and has no voice but uses his soundboard to enhance his arguments. Additionally, the gang drives into Top Gun: Maverick as a little bonus. Obviously, this is the biggest movie of the year so it doesn't deserve to be on a podcast called Not A Bomb. *** Warning, there are slight spoilers in the discussion. ***Timestamps:Intro - (1:05)Box Office Results and Critical Response - (6:39)Movie Guide Review - (11:15)Behind the Camera - (16:23)In Front of the Camera- (17:43)Production and Development - (26:40)Sky Captain Film Discussion - (37:25)Is it a bomb? - (75:46)What's you call sign? - (78:10)Top Gun: Maverick Talk - (83:56)Coming up Next - (117:25)Outro - (124:28)Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is directed by Kerry Conran and stars Gwyneth (Goopy) Paltrow, Jude Law, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Gambon, Bai Ling, Omid Djalili, and Angelina Jolie. Crystal structure prediction (CSP) has been a vital part of the mission of XtalPi, an artificial intelligence and quantum physics based pharmaceutical technology company aiming to improve the speed, scale, novelty, and success rate of drug discovery and development. Chandler Greenwell, an applications scientist at XtaPi, shares how CSP is revolutionizing the field. We discuss: How polymorphism relates to CSP Insights that CSP can provide for de-risking the polymorph landscape Future applications for CSP Resources mentioned during the podcast: Facts and fictions about polymorphism Why don't we find more polymorphs? In Authorized's Season 2 finale, we're joined by author and Next Picture Show host Keith Phipps to discuss the oddity that is Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. We talk the boons of the serial genre (it's cool as hell), as well as its nostalgia for old-timey sexism. Ultimately, we pine for more adventures with our cool friends Sky Captain and Polly Perkins. On the eighteenth episode of Ammonite Movie Nite, the boys go to the movies for an old-school double-feature as they fall in love with Joe Dante's MATINEE and out of love with SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW. Along the way: more mutant talk, Kev breaks his own on-air chair-creak record, and Jared blows Kev's mind by liking a Disney product. Here comes a podcast for “THE WORLD OF TOMORROW!” (but really, it's like 20 years ago…) Jinkx Monsoon and her long-time comedy partner Nick Sahoyah will take you episode by episode through one of the best-written adult animation shows of our generation: Futurama. With incredible celebrity guests, (many of whom have never seen Futurama before) Jinkx and Nick will give you the in-depth and out-of-this-world analysis you never knew you needed. Starting at its humble beginnings as a fledgling cartoon on Fox, all the way through its three made-for-TV movies, and concluding with its resurrection and final seasons on Comedy Central— we will watch and dissect every. single. episode. Jinkx Monsoon is the internationally tolerated drag superstar you have come to know and love for her dry wit and unique brand of self-loathing. She is joined by Nick Sahoyah who has been her comedy partner long before her Season 5 win of RuPaul's Drag Race. You can see these two in their long-running web series: “Cool Mom”, as well as the darkly comedic horror short: “Love Follows” on YouTube. As best friends for over twelve years, their continued love of cartoons is as impressive as it is sad. Together, they have watched countless animated series to completion, much to the chagrin of their roommates and romantic partners throughout the years. Of all their favorites, Futurama is by far their most quoted series, as both Jinkx and Nick have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of this oft-overlooked surrealist comedy. If you are a fan of drag, stoner humor, or friends with an oddly mother-and-son-like relationship, then this is the podcast for you! Special guests include hilarious comedians such as Nicole Byer, Margaret Cho, Guy Branum, Monét Exchange, Bob the Drag Queen, and many more! Join us for the first time or the millionth, as we watch each and every episode of the cult classic: Futurama. Tune into this brand new podcast each week to hear Jinkx and Nick's profound and meticulous dissection of the show they love…possibly too much. Learn more about your ad choices. It's becoming kind of trite to say that time isn't real. And yet, we're going to talk about how not real it is for a whole episode. Buckle in. No Flux Capacitor required. We are jumping tracks, bending space-time, and pulling back the curtain in this one. Learn more at http://revealthegameoflife.com/
