How to Find Hope When Postpartum Depression and Hormonal Imbalance Bring Shame

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast

Episode Summary: In this episode of Your Hope-Filled Perspective, Rhonda Stoppe shares her Sacred Scar Story of finding hope in the midst of postpartum depression and hormonal imbalance. What began as a season of silent suffering—marked by deep shame, emotional exhaustion, and the sense that no one understood—eventually led her to the help she desperately needed. Now, Rhonda offers encouragement and truth to women facing similar struggles, reminding them they’re not alone and that healing begins when we bring our pain into the light. Quotables from the episode: Living in that one-bedroom house, without electricity, with three children I was so overwhelmed. It wasn’t depression exactly, but I was completely overwhelmed. I was lying in my kids’ bunkbed with the door closing, weeping, when my husband came home and found me like that. He asked what was wrong with me, and I didn’t know. It was just too hard. It was a very dark season for me. I didn’t know that it was post-partum depression—I just knew I was frail, and I was fragile. Slowly, that post-partum turned into PMS/PMD. I remember not being the mom I wanted to be. Two weeks out of the month I wasn’t myself, and then two weeks out of the month I was myself. We lived behind a locked gate on a ranch, so I could hide. So whenever I wasn’t myself, and I couldn’t live my life “out there,” I just stayed home within the locked gate. Imagine if you’re a werewolf, and imagine if every full moon, you were going to turn into a werewolf and you couldn’t stop it, you couldn’t stop that werewolf from taking over your body, and the only hope you had was if someone would lock you in a cage until the full moon passed so you didn’t eat your young. That is what my experience was like with PMS. Before I experienced it, I had said to my mom and to my sister who struggled with it, “Oh come on, you’re just using that as an excuse to hurt people with your words.” Now, I knew enough to not hurt people with my words. Instead, I would pull back. During those times the only fruit of the spirit that I seemed to have was self-control, and I could keep hurtful words from coming out of my mouth that I couldn’t take back. I told my husband that the best way he could help me was to let me pull away in my bedroom, while he played with the kids, and let me just get through it. I would be in my room with my Bible open in my lap, reading, praying and asking God to help me. I felt so ashamed because I knew the Lord and I had the Holy Spirit in me. What happens with a hormonal imbalance is a real medical condition that occurs and can play itself out in a way that you can be very sinful in how you let yourself respond to it. I felt shame, I felt alone, I felt lonely, I felt like no one else was going through what I was going through. I think it’s silent suffering that we often go through as Christian women because it feels so shameful when we have the Holy Spirit but we don’t know why we cannot get a handle on this. What makes it so hard is that we are so ashamed about it, so we don’t want to talk about it because we don’t know anyone else who is going through it so we think we are alone, so then the message we hear is “what’s wrong with ME?” That just brings on more guilt, shame, remorse, regret, fear, and isolation. The isolation is about the worse thing we can do. We need to talk about it so that people know they’re not alone. The enemy convinced me I was all alone, nobody understands, and I was going to have to figure this all out on my own. I ultimately found help when I went to an endocrinologist who specialized in hormonal disorders. She gave me medication that balanced out my hormonal levels throughout the month. My sacred scars came out of this experience because now I can comfort others with what has comforted me. Whenever I share my story, women are desperate to talk to me because they feel so alone and don’t think anyone can understand the struggle, and for some, it’s ruining their marriages. The whole essence of the book Sacred Scars is that God didn’t cause our pain and suffering, but He will use it for good. Even now, my husband, Steve, who is a pastor, can help other men whose wives are going through it, because Steve went through it with me and can understand. Initially, in my pride, I didn’t want others to know about my frailty, but if God can use my frailty to help someone else, who am I to not let Him use my sacred scars to help someone else who’s desperate to know they aren’t alone. Don’t try to find someone to blame for how you’re feeling right now. Recognize what is going on in your body. It’s no one’s fault; you don’t have to find someone to blame for why you’re sad or why you’re mad or why you’re triggered. It’s a hormonal fluctuation and you need to decide how to take care of you and not assign blame or fault for why you feel this way. There is hope and there is help. Find a medical professional who specializes in hormonal imbalances. Don’t give up. Find someone you can trust who you can talk to about it. Isolating yourself makes it worse. Don’t give up and don’t suffer silently. Satan keeps our secrets and makes us feel shame, so when we share it, it disarms his hold on us. Find a safe person to share this with. You need to be careful who you share this with because some people haven’t earned your trust or the right to hear those intimate personal details. 38: The Loneliness Of Healing: Why Growth Feels So Isolating At First

In this episode of The Codependent Doctor, I delve into the often-overlooked aspect of healing: the loneliness that can accompany personal growth. While healing is frequently portrayed as a beautiful and empowering journey, it can also feel isolating, especially when you start setting boundaries and stepping away from toxic patterns.I discuss how this loneliness is not a sign of failure but rather a natural part of the healing process. As you begin to prioritize yourself and your needs, you may notice shifts in your relationships, with some people drifting away as you no longer fulfill the roles they relied on. This can feel disorienting and even painful, but it's essential to recognize that you are making space for healthier connections.Throughout the episode, I encourage listeners to embrace the quiet moments that come with this transition. Instead of rushing to fill the void, I suggest taking time to reconnect with yourself, exploring old hobbies, and allowing yourself to be curious and playful. I also emphasize the importance of seeking safe support during this time, whether through therapy, support groups, or online communities.Ultimately, I remind you that loneliness is not a punishment but a doorway to deeper self-discovery and more authentic relationships. As you navigate this journey, remember that you are not alone, and the space you are creating will lead to a more fulfilling and joyful life.Send me a messageSubscribe to my newsletter for more information on when my new workbook, Enough As I Am, will be available on Amazon.

Truthfully, being tall can be an isolating experience. I mean, it's very rare to have a moment where you can just feel like everyone else. Whenever you walk into a room, you're immediately noticed and get stares. People feel the need to make comments about your height. You see that cute fit your friends are wearing? Yeah, you can't wear that because it's not long enough. Experiences like these add up over time, causing us to feel like the odd one out constantly. Like the world treats you differently because of something you can't control. After a while, you start to wonder if there's a place for you or just anyone who can understand or relate or literally treat you like a normal human being. Today, I will be breaking down why many of us tall women feel this silent loneliness and why we shouldn't downplay this or pretend it doesn't affect us. Ok, was this a bit dramatic?? Maybe. But also not really. Because high school me/middle school me felt this way. Felt really isolated, felt like the odd one out. And I wanna say super early on that this episode is to not complain about being tall or hating on it. Because I know people will say “oh you're so lucky to be tall”  and bla bla bla like I get it. For real. Being tall is a blessing but it also has its trying moments. People will call you the weirdest names. And say the most heinous things about your body and height. Strangers will stare and point at you in public. Even your friends will say/do some shady things. All of this is on top of the fact that you're hyper-aware of your height in public and are constantly comparing your height to your shorter peers. When living in a world where many people are shorter than you, it can be hard. Truthfully. If you can relate, I highly recommend checking this episode out! Buy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/atallgirlspodcast Subscribe to A Tall Girl's Newsletter: https://atallgirlspodcast.beehiiv.com/subscribeLet's stay connected: https://beacons.ai/atallgirlspodcast Leave a review and let me know how tall you are: https://atallgirlspodcast.com/reviews

"The toy train is the unsung workhorse of the Himalayan mountain railway and is synonymous with the heritage of Darjeeling. I felt it needed its own little celebration and hence, hearing its whistle in the field recording, I thought it would make an ideal instrument. Isolating its whistle I did a bit of pitch shifting to create the chords of the fanfare. The whole piece is solely composed from the original field recording with no other instruments or sounds added. Hooray for the toy train, a sonic hero." Adonai your G_d has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his own unique treasure.Genesis 35:1 G_d said to Ya`akov, "Get up, go up to Beit-El and live there, and make there an altar to G_d, who appeared to you when you fled `Esav your brother." 2 Then Ya`akov said to his household and all the others with him, "Get rid of the foreign gods that you have with you, purify yourselves, and put on fresh clothes. 3 We're going to move on and go up to Beit-El. There I will build an altar to G_d, who answered me when I was in such distress and stayed with me wherever I went." Genesis 35:4 They gave Ya`akov all the foreign gods in their possession and the earrings they were wearing, and Ya`akov buried them under the pistachio tree near Sh'khem. 5 While they were traveling, a terror from G_d fell upon the cities around them, so that none of them pursued the sons of Ya`akov.Genesis 35:6 Ya`akov and all the people with him arrived at Luz (that is, Beit-El) in the land of Kena`an. 7 He built there an altar and called the place El-Beit-El [G_d of Beit-El], because it was there that G_d was revealed to him, at the time when he was fleeing from his brother.Genesis 35:8 Then D'vorah, Rivkah's nurse, died. She was buried below Beit-El under the oak, which was given the name Alon-Bakhut [oak of weeping].Genesis 35:9 After Ya`akov arrived from Paddan-Aram, G_d appeared to him again and blessed him. 10 G_d said to him, "Your name is Ya`akov, but you will be called Ya`akov no longer; your name will be Isra'el." Thus he named him Isra'el. 11 G_d further said to him, "I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed a group of nations, will come from you; kings will be descended from you. Genesis 35:12 Moreover, the land which I gave to Avraham and Yitz'chak I will give to you, and I will give the land to your descendants after you." 13 Then G_d went up from him there where he had spoken with him. Genesis 35:14 Ya`akov set up a standing-stone in the place where he had spoken with him, a stone pillar. Then he poured out a drink offering on it and poured oil on it. 15 Ya`akov called the place where G_d spoke with him Beit-El.Genesis 35:16 Then they traveled on from Beit-El, and while there was still some distance to go before arriving in Efrat, Rachel went into labor, and she had great difficulty with it. 17 While she was undergoing this hard labor, the midwife said to her, "Don't worry, this is also a son for you." 18 But she died in childbirth. As she was dying she named her son Ben-Oni [son of my grief], but his father called him Binyamin [son of the right hand, son of the south]. 19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Efrat (that is, Beit-Lechem). 20 Ya`akov set up a standing-stone on her grave; it is the standing-stone of Rachel's grave to this day.Genesis 35:21 Isra'el continued his travels and pitched his tent on the other side of Migdal-`Eder. 22 It was while Isra'el was living in that land that Re'uven went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, and Isra'el heard about it. Ya`akov had twelve sons. 23 The sons of Le'ah were Re'uven Ya`akov's firstborn, Shim`on, Levi, Y'hudah, Yissakhar and Z'vulun. 24 The sons of Rachel were Yosef and Binyamin. 25 The sons of Bilhah Rachel's slave-girl were Dan and Naftali. 26 And the sons of Zilpah Le'ah's slave-girl were Gad and Asher. These were Ya`akov's sons, born to him in Paddan-Aram.Genesis 35:27 Ya`akov came home to his father Yitz'chak at Mamre, near Kiryat-Arba (also known as Hevron), where Avraham and Yitz'chak had lived as foreigners. 28 Yitz'chak lived to be 180 years old. 29 Then he breathed his last, died and was gathered to his people, an old man full of years; and his sons `Esav and Ya`akov buried him.DOGE and DOSE?Department of Spiritual Efficacy!https://unsplash.com/@stigson - Jordan Valleyhttps://unsplash.com/@robertina - Anointing oilhttps://unsplash.com/@fadid000 - Heart

Her mission is to support the advancement of women in business around the globe. Kathy is a speaker on topics spanning women's empowerment, overcoming workplace adversity, effective communication, entrepreneurship, personal growth, and navigating change.   To help women access more bravery and power today, career breakthrough coach Kathy Caprino, M.A. has written THE MOST POWERFUL YOU: 7 Bravery-Boosting Paths to Career Bliss (HarperCollins Leadership; July 28, 2020). Drawing on findings from over ten years of research, coaching and training thousands of women around the world, Caprino's book will inspire women to take action, “find brave” and connect with greater power -- to reach their fullest potential and make the difference they envision. Caprino reveals the seven most damaging power gaps that prevent women from thriving in their careers, and seven bravery boosting paths to close these gaps. The seven damaging Power Gaps are: Gap #1: Not recognizing your special talents, abilities and accomplishments Gap #2: Communicating from fear not strength Gap #3: Reluctance to ask for what you deserve Gap #4: Isolating from influential support Gap #5: Acquiescing instead of saying “STOP!” to mistreatment Gap #6: Losing sight of your thrilling dream for your life Gap #7: Allowing past trauma to define you     Caprino surveyed nearly 1,000 professional women across the globe and the results were staggering - 98% of professional women studied are experiencing at least one of these gaps, and over 75% are facing three or more at once. Listen, learn and apply the 7 Bravery Boosting Paths: Brave Sight, Speak, Ask, Connection, Challenge, Service, and Healing. When we take these paths, we increase our self-confidence, and dramatically improve our communication, relationships, recognition, leadership impact, and access to influential support, which in turn, transforms our futures and those of other women.     Go here to get the book The Most Powerful You  (and for more resources from Kathy Caprino): https://kathycaprino.com/ https://kathycaprino.com/mostpowerfulyou Want to continue the conversation? As machine learning algorithms continue to evolve, Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4 are gaining popularity. While these models hold great promise in revolutionizing various functions and industries—ranging from content generation and customer service to research and development—they also come with their own set of risks and ethical concerns. In this episode, Rohan Sathe, Co-founder & CTO/Head of R&D at Nightfall.ai, and I review the LLM-related risks and how best to mitigate them.Action Items and Discussion HighlightsLarge Language Models (LLMs) are built on specialized machine learning models and architectures called transformer-based architectures, and they are leveraged in Natural Language Processing (NLP) contexts. There's been a lot of ongoing work in using LLMs to automate customer support activities.LLM usage has dramatically shifted to include creative capabilities such as image generation, copywriting, design creation, and code writing. There are three main LLM attack vectors: a) Attacking the LLM Model directly, b) Attacking the infrastructure and integrations, and c)Attacking the application.Prevention and mitigation strategies include a) Strict input validation and sanitization, b) Isolating the LLM environment from other critical systems and resources, c) Restricting the LLM's access to sensitive resources and limiting its capabilities to the minimum required for its intended purpose; d) Regularly audit and review the LLM's environment and access controls; e) Implement real-time monitoring to promptly detect and respond to unusual or unauthorized activities; and f) Establish robust governance around ethical development and use of LLMs.Time Stamps00:02 -- Introduction01:54 -- Guest's Professional Highlights02:50 -- Overview of Large Language Models (LLMs)07:33 -- Common LLM Applications08:53 -- AI-Safe Jobs and Skill Sets11:41 -- LLM Related Risks15:30 -- Protective Measures19:09 -- Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)20:57 -- Securing Sensitive Data23:07 -- Selecting Appropriate Data Loss Protection Platforms25:00 -- Human Involvement in Processing Alerts26:56 -- Closing ThoughtsMemorable Rohan Sathe Quotes/Statements"Large Language Models (LLMs) are built on specialized machine learning models and architectures called transformer-based architectures, and they are leveraged in Natural Language Processing (NLP) contexts. Sunday August 25, 2024 at the Hub City Church Resisting the Spirit of Babylon | Daniel 1:1-21 Daniel: Faithfulness in Babylon Sermon by Tadd Anderson | Lead Teaching Pastor Sermon Notes The greatest DANGER for BABYLON is not living in IT PHYSICALLY, but its SUBTLE and SEDUCTIVE attempts to live in US SPIRITUALLY. 1 Corinthians 5:11 “Though we do not share all of the world's conclusions, too often we think about everything in the same way and operate with the same value system— how many of us would rather die for the glory of God than live halfheartedly for Him in a measure of comfort?” — Sinclair Ferguson The demonic kingdom of Babylon wants to cause Christians to forget God with a process of systematic reprogramming: 1. ISOLATING them. Proverbs 18:1 // 1 Peter 5:8 2. INDOCTRINATING them. Colossians 2:8 // Romans 12:2 3. RE-IDENTIFYING them. 1 John 3:2 // 2 Corinthians 5:20 4. INTOXICATING them. Ephesians 5:18 // 1 Peter 1:13 Daniel's example teaches us: There is usually a way to COEXIST PEACEABLY in Babylon while DEYING it's INFLUENCE at the HEART level BUT it takes WISDOM to DISCERN and then DETERMINATION to IMPLEMENT. John 17:14-15 // Ephesians 5:7-10 While God does NOT promise to PROTECT us from EXPERIENCING SUFFERING, He does promise to PRESERVE and PROVIDE for us THROUGH it. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 We not only need FAITHFUL exilic EXAMPLES to follow, we need PERFECT FAITHFULNESS LIVED out FOR US. Romans 4:3,5 The Hub City Church is a local expression of the church in Crestview, Florida, making disciples Who Believe the Gospel, Abide in Christ and Obey the Word to the glory of God. Join us next Sunday at 10am. 837 W James Lee Blvd, Crestview, FL 32536.

Systemic Neglect: How Staffing Shortages In Nursing Homes Leave Patients Trapped in Hospitals When taking care of a loved one becomes too hard, families often look to nursing homes for help. But finding long term care in California s not easy right now. The industry took a big hit during the pandemic and many facilities are still recovering from staffing shortages. Some patients with complex diagnoses are waiting weeks, months and even years for a bed. KQED health correspondent Lesley McClurg has the story of one man in the Bay Area who has tried everything to find care for his wife. A Caregiving Son and a Mom with Alzheimer's Find a Musical Connection What happens when the parent-child role is reversed? In caregiving, this kind of role reversal is common. And it's what happened to Rob Fordyce. After his 85-year-old mom, Susan, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease two years ago, Rob moved back into his childhood home to take care of her. And despite Susan's advancing disease, Rob found a surprising way for the two of them to connect, through music. Cayla Mihalovich has their story. How An LA Child Care Influencer Became A Resource For Providers Across The Country Child care happens in a lot of different settings: a school, or a center, or a church. What you may not know is that more than a quarter of California's child care facilities are actually in private homes. And for those providers, it can be a real challenge to juggle caregiving with running a small business. Tonya Mohammad knows this firsthand and understands the myriad of issues that child care providers face. So she's built a following via social media by sharing her three decades of experience taking care of infants and toddlers in Los Angeles. LAist's Mariana Dale brings us her story. They each share their answer to this question, “Looking back, when do you wish you would have left? Is there a time that you “wish” you would have filed for divorce sooner?”   The second question they dive into is “Please discuss the isolating dynamics of a covert narcissistic relationship.” In their answer, they talk about two aspects of this question. Covert narcissists isolate you from others with their tactics of manipulation, gaslighting, blame shifting and victim role. In addition to this, victims isolate themselves out of survival and for their own protection in these antagonistic relationships.   Learn more about the group program with these two ladies here   https://www.covertnarcissism.com/group-course    #covertnarcissism #podcast #abuse #gaslighting #marriedtoanarcissist #narcissist #narcissism

What is happening here is clearly something completely different. How did these protests get started? The students paid for those cancelled commencements. USC squirms at funding threats. It's controlled, but genius chaos. Civil war in the US will force bended knees. Time traveler tales Independent AI in future cities. Everyone always behaving. The three levels of future punishment. Population control will be key. Compare to the Israeli Palestine conflict. Using historical grievances as leverage. Laws protect those that control you. Religious liberty is for everyone. Sea front real estate because they can. Isolating the US is looking easy. Our monetary system will topple. So many are cheering on a genocide. Turmoil overseas as bases fall and American troops leave. Polarizing propaganda drives the extremes. How to engage now? Don't buy into the lies. Infrastructure collapse comes with massive illegal immigration. Cyber attacks hint at the perps. Take a good think about it. How many of you are actually free?
