Eind vorige zomer kondigde cryptodienstverlener Amdax een nieuw initiatief aan: een Nederlands bedrijf dat bitcoin op de balans zou zetten en daarmee naar Euronext Amsterdam zou gaan. Het heette toen Amsterdam Bitcoin Treasury Strategy, kortweg AMBTS. De ambitie was groot. Op termijn wilde het bedrijf 1 procent van alle bitcoin bezitten, ruim 210.000 munten. Voor institutionele partijen als pensioenfondsen en verzekeraars, die vaak niet rechtstreeks in crypto mogen beleggen, zou een beursgenoteerd aandeel een gereguleerde ingang bieden tot de koers van bitcoin. Inmiddels is het beeld anders. De toezichthouder AFM is voor een notering op de Amsterdamse beurs gaan liggen, en het bedrijf onderging een rebranding. Amsterdam Bitcoin Treasury Strategy heet nu Ambitious en presenteert zich niet langer als treasury company maar als bitcoin operating company. Waar het eerst draaide om koerswinst en een accumulatiedoel, gaat het nu over operationele kasstromen en een capaciteitsambitie. Geen vaste doelstelling van 210.000 bitcoin meer, maar het voornemen om die hoeveelheid in te zetten als brandstof, onderpand en werkkapitaal binnen wat het de bitcoineconomie noemt. In deze aflevering spreekt Daniel Mol met Lucas Wensing, CEO van Amdax en medeoprichter van Ambitious, over wat er precies misging. Op basis waarvan weigert de AFM toegang tot de beurs? Wensing noemt een geweigerde prospectus zeldzaam en stelt dat de toezichthouder onder meer struikelt over de ambitie om 1 procent van alle bitcoin te bezitten. De zaak ligt nu bij het College van Beroep voor het bedrijfsleven, de hoogste bestuursrechter op economisch terrein. Wat gebeurt er als Ambitious gelijk krijgt, en wat als het ongelijk krijgt? Een kritieke kwetsbaarheid in de privacycoin zcash zorgde afgelopen week voor flinke onrust. Het lek zat in de Orchard pool, het privacygedeelte van het zcashprotocol, en was sinds de activering in mei 2022 onopgemerkt aanwezig. Beveiligingsonderzoeker Taylor Hornby ontdekte het gat eind mei met behulp van Opus 4.8, een openbaar model van Anthropic. In een testomgeving kon hij er een onbeperkt aantal vervalste zcashmunten mee aanmaken, volledig onzichtbaar voor de buitenwereld. Was het lek op het echte netwerk misbruikt, dan had het de geloofwaardigheid van de totale muntvoorraad kunnen ondermijnen. Ontwikkelaarsorganisatie Shielded Labs maakte het probleem openbaar en verhielp het in een spoedupdate, binnen enkele dagen na de ontdekking. Toch reageerde de markt nerveus. Door de privacyeigenschappen van Orchard valt namelijk niet met zekerheid vast te stellen of iemand de fout eerder al misbruikte. Die onzekerheid woog zwaar. Zcash verloor op het dieptepunt meer dan 50 procent en er werd voor ruim 100 miljoen dollar aan posities geliquideerd. Onder de verkopers zat Arthur Hayes, beleggingsdirecteur bij Maelstrom en lange tijd uitgesproken voorstander van de munt. Hij stootte zijn volledige positie af, omdat misbruik niet wiskundig viel uit te sluiten. In de prijsanalyse staat de bredere markt centraal. Bitcoin zakte de afgelopen week opnieuw weg en beleefde de derde grote capitulatie van deze bearmarkt, met een daling van 17 procent in vier dagen vanaf zo'n 74.000 dollar. Sinds vrijdag krabbelt de koers langzaam op richting 63.000 dollar. Tegelijk zien analisten rond de vier miljard dollar aan uitstroom uit de bitcoin ETF's, wat de vraag oproept of verdere dalingen dreigen. Ook wat eerdere bearmarkten ons leren over het verloop daarna komt aan bod. En een primeur uit de Verenigde Staten! Een stel uit Michigan sloot de eerste reguliere hypotheek met overheidsgarantie af waarbij bitcoin als onderpand dient. De lening loopt via hypotheekverstrekker Better en wordt gedekt door Fannie Mae, de door de overheid gesteunde instelling achter een groot deel van de Amerikaanse hypotheekmarkt. Lang gold cryptovaluta als te volatiel voor zo'n constructie, maar dat veranderde nadat toezichthouder FHFA onder leiding van Bill Pulte besloot crypto op centrale beurzen mee te laten tellen. Munten in een eigen wallet tellen daarbij niet mee. De opzet bestaat uit twee leningen: een gewone hypotheek volgens de regels van Fannie Mae en daarnaast een tweede lening met de crypto als onderpand. Dagelijkse koersschommelingen leiden niet tot gedwongen verkoop, al kan de verstrekker bij langdurige betalingsachterstand alsnog ingrijpen. De Ethereumgemeenschap kreeg deze week iets te verwerken. David Hoffman, een van de gezichten van de podcast Bankless en jarenlang een van de luidste pleitbezorgers van het netwerk, maakte bekend dat hij al zijn ether heeft verkocht. Zijn twijfel gaat niet over Ethereum zelf, maar over de munt. Dat verschil is belangrijk. Ethereum is het netwerk waarop applicaties, layer twee netwerken, stablecoins en getokeniseerde bezittingen draaien. Ether is het bijbehorende token. Hoffman blijft overtuigd van het netwerk, maar denkt dat de waarde daarvan vooral terechtkomt bij die applicaties en lagen eromheen, en veel minder bij de munt. De these dat ether geld zou worden is volgens hem niet mislukt, maar simpelweg uitgewerkt. Vrijwel tegelijk kwam medeoprichter Vitalik Buterin met een lange beschouwing over de koers van het project. Zijn stelling: de Ethereum Foundation moet een kleiner schip worden. Minder breedte, meer focus op de kern. Buterin wil terug naar de basiswaarden, die hij samenvat als censuurbestendigheid, openheid, privacy en veiligheid. De stichting gaat ook minder ether verkopen, en zijn eigen invloed neemt verder af, schrijft hij, wat hij naar eigen zeggen prima vindt. Dat alles speelt tegen de achtergrond van een reeks vertrekkende onderzoekers bij de stichting. We vragen ons af of beleggers in ether hier iets aan hebben, en of er überhaupt een brede consensus is over waar het heen moet. De bitcoinkoers zakte verder naar zo'n 69.000 dollar, terwijl we twee weken geleden nog op 80.000 stonden. Dat terwijl op de beurzen de grote indexen het ene na het andere record breken. Waarom volgt bitcoin die trend niet, en wat heeft de markt nodig om weer op te veren? Tot slot een blik op tokenisatie. Volgens een rapport van Citi kan de markt voor getokeniseerde beleggingen groeien van 17 miljard naar 5,5 biljoen dollar in 2030. Grote beurzen werken er volop aan. We bespreken wat getokeniseerde beleggingen precies zijn, wat het betekent voor de machtsconcentratie in de financiële wereld en hoe je er als belegger op kunt inspelen. Bitcoin werd ooit bedacht als geld zonder baas. Geen centrale bank die kan bijdrukken, geen overheid die je rekening kan bevriezen, geen tussenpersoon die een transactie kan weigeren. Onder de noemer freedom money groeide daar een hele beweging omheen: het idee dat Bitcoin een uitweg biedt voor mensen die vastzitten in een falend financieel systeem. In deze Deep Dive pakken we die belofte erbij en kijken we wat er nog van overeind staat. Eerst de basis. Wat betekent freedom money eigenlijk, en is Bitcoin überhaupt geld? Veronique Estié en Bert Slagter helpen de begrippen scherp te krijgen en leggen uit waarom dit een van de oorspronkelijke gedachten achter cryptovaluta was. Want de problemen waar Bitcoin een antwoord op zou zijn, zijn concreet: hyperinflatie waarbij spaargeld in maanden verdampt, financiële uitsluiting van wie geen bankrekening krijgt, en kapitaalcontroles die je vermogen binnen de landsgrenzen opsluiten. De Europese bankwereld roert zich. Qivalis, het in Amsterdam gevestigde consortium dat werkt aan een eurostablecoin, heeft er 25 nieuwe leden bijgekregen. Daarmee telt het netwerk nu 37 financiële instellingen uit 15 landen, waaronder ABN AMRO en Rabobank. ING was al eerder lid. Een stablecoin is een cryptomunt waarvan de waarde gekoppeld is aan een vaste referentiewaarde. In dit geval de euro. De Qivalis munt wordt op een 1 op 1 verhouding gedekt door euro's en andere liquide activa bij gereguleerde bewaarders. Het doel is niet om bestaande betaalsystemen te vervangen, maar om blockchaingebaseerde afwikkeling sneller en goedkoper te maken, met name voor grensoverschrijdende betalingen en de handel in tokenized financiële producten. De timing is niet toevallig. Het overgrote deel van alle stablecoins in omloop is dollargebonden. Tether en Circle vertegenwoordigen samen honderden miljarden dollars. Qivalis positioneert zich nadrukkelijk als Europees alternatief. De ECB staat daar met gemengde gevoelens tegenover. Christine Lagarde heeft meerdere malen gewaarschuwd voor de risico's van private stablecoins, een positie die haaks staat op die van het bankenconsortium. Toch dringen de Europese grootbanken door. Qivalis hoopt in de tweede helft van 2026 te lanceren, mits de Nederlandsche Bank als toezichthouder groen licht geeft. Dan Hyperliquid, de gedecentraliseerde cryptobeurs die de ene na de andere mijlpaal haalt. Het platform staat bekend om perpetual futures, derivaten waarmee je kunt speculeren op koersen zonder de onderliggende activa te hoeven bezitten. Via partner trade.xyz voegde het een nieuw product toe: synthetische pre-IPO contracten. Wie wil speculeren op de koers van SpaceX vóór de beursgang, kan dat nu op Hyperliquid doen. Voor grondstoffen als olie en goud biedt het platform al langer de mogelijkheid om dag en nacht te handelen. Het eigen HYPE token steeg deze week met bijna 40 procent. Beleggers trokken meer dan een miljard dollar terug uit Bitcoin ETFs en 215 miljoen uit Ethereum ETFs, terwijl HYPE ETFs juist 72 miljoen dollar aan instroom zagen. Goldman Sachs heeft inmiddels ook een positie in het token. Er zijn wel vraagtekens bij de mate van decentralisatie van het platform, de validatoren zijn in beperkte handen. Tot slot Tether, de grootste stablecoinuitgever ter wereld, dat een akkoord sloot met de Georgische overheid voor een stablecoin gekoppeld aan de Georgische lari. De GELT moet grensoverschrijdende handel en digitale betalingen goedkoper en sneller maken. Het is geen CBDC, maar een privaat product met overheidssteun. Tether doet dit vaker: het lanceerde eerder al de MXNT voor de Mexicaanse peso. De eurovariant EURT trok het bedrijf eind 2025 juist in vanwege nieuwe Europese regelgeving. Co-host is Raoul Esseboom. Voor het eerst in jaren daalt de hashrate van het bitcoinnetwerk structureel. De hashrate, de totale rekenkracht die miners wereldwijd inzetten om transacties te valideren en nieuwe bitcoins te produceren, is al ruim 100 exahash lager dan de piek. Dat roept de vraag op wat er aan de hand is, en wat het betekent voor de toekomst van bitcoinmining. Een dergelijke daling heeft zich eerder voorgedaan. In 2021 verbood China alle bitcoinmining van de ene op de andere dag, waardoor de netwerkrekenkracht in korte tijd bijna halveerde. Dat veroorzaakte paniek. Bitcoinmining levert steeds minder op terwijl de kosten van energie en hardware hoog blijven, en AI datacenters bieden een aantrekkelijker alternatief. De pivot naar kunstmatige intelligentie is inmiddels een dominante trend in de sector. Bitcoinminers beschikken over precies de infrastructuur die AI bedrijven nodig hebben: grote hoeveelheden stroom, koelsystemen en ervaring met het beheren van grootschalige hardwareparken. Waar bitcoinmining per megawatt een bepaald rendement oplevert, kan diezelfde ruimte met AI rekenkracht drie tot vijfentwintig keer zoveel opbrengen, met contracten voor de lange termijn als extra voordeel. Een van de opvallendste voorbeelden van die verschuiving is Hut 8, ooit een van de grootste dediceerde bitcoinminers ter wereld. Het bedrijf transformeert zich tot een energiebedrijf met AI datacenters in de portefeuille. Vanuit die structuur ontstond ook American Bitcoin, het miningbedrijf dat Eric Trump en Donald Trump Jr. samen met Hut 8 oprichtten. American Bitcoin kiest juist nadrukkelijk voor bitcoinmining als strategie, en is daarmee een uitzondering op de regel. Toch verdwijnt bitcoinmining niet. Private miners houden stand, en de opkomst van solo mining met apparaatjes als de BitAxe zorgt voor een opvallende tegenhanger. Vorig jaar werden maar liefst 36 blocks gevonden door solo miners, een signaal dat kleinschalige mining nog steeds een rol speelt in het netwerk. Er zijn ook zorgpunten voor de langere termijn. Bitcoinblokken zijn al een tijdje grotendeels leeg, wat de vraag opwerpt hoe miners over twee jaar hun inkomsten op peil houden als de volgende halving plaatsvindt en de bloksubsidie opnieuw halveert. Banken en crypto. Het is een combinatie die al tien jaar wordt aangekondigd, maar zelden tot echte actie leidt. Te gast is Berit Fuss, head of digital assets bij ABN AMRO. Ze is al meer dan tien jaar actief in de blockchainruimte en ziet nu, bij haar eigen bank en daarbuiten, dat er écht wat aan het veranderen is. In deze aflevering van de Cryptocast hoor je het hoe en wat. Waar banken vroeger nog probeerden hun eigen blockchains te bouwen of met allerlei alternatieve munten te experimenteren, verschuift de aandacht nu naar wat Fuss een infrastructuurfase noemt. Banken leggen de fundering waarop toekomstige diensten kunnen draaien, denk aan custody, afwikkeling en tokenisatie van bestaande financiële instrumenten. Geen losse proeftuinen meer, maar concrete bouw aan het fundament van een nieuw financieel systeem. De echte strategische vraag is dan ook niet óf banken mee kunnen in de technologierace, maar hoe ze zich positioneren: zelf bouwen, samenwerken met externe partijen, of een combinatie van beide? Stablecoins nemen een centrale positie in dit gesprek in. Zijn ze een revolutie voor vrijwel ieder segment van de markt, van betalingen tot obligatieuitgifte? Tegelijkertijd zijn er stevige zorgen. Meer dan negentig procent van alle stablecoins is dollargedomineerd. Voor een Europese bank als ABN AMRO roept dat vragen op over afhankelijkheid van Amerikaans beleid en de grote techbedrijven die achter de meeste stablecoins schuilgaan. De Amerikaanse Senaatscommissie voor Bankzaken heeft deze week de Clarity Act goedgekeurd. Met vijftien stemmen voor en negen tegen, inclusief twee Democraten, is dat een politiek signaal. Maar het echte werk begint nu pas: de Senaat heeft zestig stemmen nodig om de wet door te loodsen, en dat betekent dat de cryptobranche nog minstens zeven Democraten moet overtuigen. De discussie van de afgelopen maanden draaide om twee grote struikelblokken. Het eerste: stablecoin yield. Stablecoins zijn cryptomunten waarvan de waarde gekoppeld is aan een gewone valuta, doorgaans de dollar. Banken vreesden oneerlijke concurrentie met spaargeld, de cryptosector wilde gelijke behandeling. Het compromis dat senatoren Tillis en Alsobrooks uitwerkten: een stablecoin die stilstaat als spaarpot keert geen rente uit. Maar wie hem gebruikt voor handel, transacties of staking, mag wel beloond worden. De cryptolobby lijkt hier vrede mee te hebben. Het tweede knelpunt is politiek gevoeliger. De kwartaalrapportage van president Trump laat honderden miljoenen dollars en duizenden transacties zien. Daartussen zitten aankopen in Coinbase, Robinhood en Marathon, exact de bedrijven die het hardst lobbyen voor de Clarity Act. Een amendement om de president te verbieden zelf te handelen haalde het niet, en de Democraten houden dit punt scherp in de gaten. Voorspelmarkten als Polymarket en Kalshi geven een kans van 61 tot 67 procent dat de wet dit jaar wordt aangenomen. Een symbolische deadline van 4 juli drijft rond in Washington, maar realistischer is augustus. In Nederland heeft blockchainbedrijf Zerohash een EMI vergunning gekregen van De Nederlandsche Bank. Zerohash verzorgt de infrastructuur voor cryptodiensten van banken, fintechs en betaaldiensten, en had al een MiCAR vergunning. Maar om stablecoinoverdrachten te kunnen verwerken is ook een betaalvergunning nodig, zo verduidelijkte de Europese Bankautoriteit in juni 2025. Met beide vergunningen kan Zerohash nu volledige stablecoinbetalingen combineren met cryptodiensten voor zijn klanten in de EU. Mauro verwacht dat meer cryptobedrijven dit voorbeeld volgen, zeker naarmate 2027 dichterbij komt en de regels voor stablecoinbetalingen van kracht worden. Tijd voor een nieuwe marktpodcast! De laatste marktaflevering dateerde van 2 december 2024, precies op het moment dat de bearmarkt uitbrak. Destijds kwamen onderwerpen voorbij als de technische schade die Bitcoin had opgelopen, zorgen rond stablecoin Tether, de zogenoemde Operation Chokepoint 3.0, het fenomeen van treasury companies als koerskatalysator, de silent IPO en de vraag of we een milde of juist een smerige bearmarkt tegemoet gingen. Eind januari 2025 viel Bitcoin écht van de klif: de koers daalde van 97.000 dollar naar de 60.000 dollar. Meerdere factoren speelden een rol. In oktober 2025 was er een flash crash die de markten opschudde. Er groeide vrees voor de doorbraak van quantumcomputers, technologie die de cryptografische beveiliging van Bitcoin theoretisch zou kunnen ondermijnen. De Clarity Act, de Amerikaanse wetgeving die digitale activa een formeel kader moet geven, zorgde voor politieke onzekerheid. En dan was er "de handrem": de tariefaankondigingen van president Trump die een wereldwijde handelsoorlog inluidden en risicovolle activa wereldwijd onder druk zetten. Intussen boekten goud en AI-aandelen stevige winsten in zogenoemde "hated rallies", markten die aanvankelijk weinig institutioneel vertrouwen genoten. Begin 2026 voegde het Citrinirapport van Citrini Research een nieuwe onzekerheidsfactor toe. Het rapport schetste een scenario van een door AI gedreven "doomloop": hogere productiviteit maar zonder brede welvaart, met massale werkloosheid onder witteboordwerkers en een instortende consumenteneconomie als gevolg. De markten reageerden hevig. SaaS-bedrijven beleefden een brede uitverkoop, aangeduid als de SaaSpocalypse. Bitcoin bewoog mee naar beneden. De verklaring: voor institutionele beleggers is Bitcoin een risicovolle asset, en wie zijn risicoblootstelling verlaagt, verkoopt zowel softwareaandelen als crypto. Toch is er ook een ander verhaal. Nadat de handelsoorlog in het voorjaar van 2025 echt losbrak, presteerde Bitcoin relatief goed ten opzichte van traditionele aandelenmarkten. Of dat de status van Bitcoin als digitale veilige haven bevestigt, staat ter discussie. Goud deed het beduidend beter, maar Bitcoin onderscheidt zich als een grensoverschrijdend en overheidsresistent bezit. Welk regime er momenteel eigenlijk heerst op de bredere financiële markt, blijft onduidelijk. Bert en Peter Slagter, analisten bij kennisplatform Bitcoin Alpha, maken vandaag de balans op. Strategy, het bedrijf dat de term HODL jarenlang tot bedrijfsstrategie verhief, heeft een forse koerswijziging aangekondigd. HODL staat in de cryptowereld voor vastberaden vasthouden zonder te verkopen. Tijdens de presentatie van de kwartaalcijfers over Q1 2026 lieten executive chairman Michael Saylor en CEO Phong Le weten dat het bedrijf de verkoop van een deel van zijn bitcoins overweegt. Dat is een ingrijpende omslag. De cijfers boden de context. Strategy boekte een nettoverlies van 12,5 miljard dollar in het eerste kwartaal, grotendeels door een bitcoinkoersdaling van 22 procent. Het bedrijf houdt 818.334 bitcoins aan, gekocht voor een gemiddelde prijs van circa 75.500 dollar per munt. De jaarlijkse dividendverplichtingen bedragen zo'n 1,5 miljard dollar, een last die voelbaar is in een dalende markt. Een eventuele verkoop heeft een specifiek doel: het verhogen van de zogenoemde "bitcoin per share", een maatstaf voor hoeveel bitcoin elk aandeel van Strategy vertegenwoordigt. Saylor vergeleek het bedrijf met een projectontwikkelaar die grond goedkoop koopt en duur verkoopt, en ziet dat als zakelijk handelen. Bovendien deed Strategy dit al eerder: in december 2022 verkocht het 704 bitcoins voor een belastingconstructie, waarna het twee dagen later 810 nieuwe bitcoins terugkocht. Hoeveel bitcoins er nu in de verkoop zouden kunnen gaan, is niet bekendgemaakt. Ondertussen gaan de aankopen gewoon door: op 11 mei maakte Strategy bekend 535 nieuwe bitcoins te hebben gekocht voor zo'n 43 miljoen dollar. Of de markt zich al heeft hersteld van de recente klap, is een open vraag. Bert Slagter van Bitcoin Alpha analyseert de markt van dit moment. Bitcoin steeg de afgelopen week boven de 80.000 dollar en bleef daar de hele week boven, maar Slagter beschouwt dat nog niet als het begin van een bullmarkt. Daarvoor zijn andere signalen nodig, die vooralsnog ontbreken. Dat standpunt klinkt door in het nieuwste kwartaalrapport van vermogensbeheerder ARK Invest, getiteld "After The Fall". Het rapport behandelt Q1 2026, een kwartaal waarin bitcoin 22 procent daalde en drie steunniveaus doorbrak. Een mondiale bodem is historisch gezien pas bevestigd als de koers daalt naar de zogenoemde "realized price" van circa 54.000 dollar, een niveau dat intact is gebleven. Toch zijn er positieve signalen: langetermijnhouders die vastberaden accumuleren, ook wel conviction buyers, verhoogden hun bezit in het kwartaal met 69 procent. Balansen van spot-ETF's voor bitcoin bleven stabiel ondanks de koersdaling, en de economische omstandigheden lijken gunstiger te worden. Crypto is allang geen nicheonderwerp meer voor de politie. In steeds meer opsporingsonderzoeken naar zware georganiseerde criminaliteit speelt digitaal geld een centrale rol. Hoe gaat de politie daarmee om, en wat kom je eigenlijk tegen als je bij een verdachte over de vloer komt? Dat vertelt Marc Kemper in deze aflevering. Hij is teamleider financieel economische recherche bij de Nederlandse Politie en werkt dagelijks aan onderzoeken waarbij cryptovaluta in beeld komt. Het team van Kemper houdt zich bezig met het volgen van geldstromen. Niet alleen via traditionele bankrekeningen, maar steeds vaker ook via blockchain. Crypto expertise is daarmee een groeiend onderdeel van het werk geworden, maar de kennis in huis opbouwen bleek een uitdaging: het vakgebied beweegt snel en de juiste mensen zijn moeilijk te vinden. Een kantelpunt in de opsporing was het klappen van de versleutelde communicatiediensten EncroChat en Sky ECC. Criminelen dachten via die netwerken onzichtbaar te zijn, maar toen die werden gekraakt, werd het voor de politie ineens concreet zichtbaar hoe groot de rol van crypto in de onderwereld eigenlijk was. Bij huiszoekingen stuit het team tegenwoordig regelmatig op hardware wallets, soms zelfs verstopt in poefjes. De meest voorkomende cases zijn grootschalige drugshandel en underground banking, ofwel ondergronds bankieren via criminele netwerken. Daarin liep Bitcoin voorop, maar inmiddels winnen stablecoins het: snel, goedkoop en makkelijk uit te geven. Toch zijn ook stablecoins niet ongrijpbaar. De politie heeft mogelijkheden om de munten op te sporen en te bevriezen. Mixers zijn een apart hoofdstuk. Nederland heeft opvallend vaak te maken met deze diensten, die cryptotransacties vermengen om de herkomst te verhullen. Ondertussen blijven criminelen ook slimmer worden: wie vandaag gepakt wordt via een stablecoin, zit morgen misschien al op DeFi. Groot verschil is er volgens Kemper ook tussen klassieke criminelen en cybercriminelen, die een eigen wereld vormen. De politie werkt nauw samen met de FIOD, en in dat verband komt ook het Financial Advanced Cyber Team ter sprake. Internationaal is de samenwerking wisselend van aard: kennis is schaars en per land sterk verschillend. Europese regelgeving als MiCAR biedt handvatten, maar kent ook beperkingen. Eric liet weten dat bitcoin zich in zijn beste periode ooit bevindt, en wees daarbij op de golf van institutionele adoptie: grote banken bieden inmiddels bitcoinhypotheken en bewaardiensten aan, en Wall Street heeft zich eindelijk neergelegd bij de realiteit van crypto. Trump senior omschreef zichzelf bij zijn aantreden als cryptopresident. De vraag of dat imago nog overeind staat, bespreekt Daniël Mol met co-host Kim Schneider, web3 enterprise lead bij Deloitte. Michael Saylor was ook van de partij in Las Vegas. De voorzitter van Strategy hield zijn bekende bitcoinverhaal, aangevuld met een reeks voorspellingen — ditmaal een koersdoel van 10 miljoen dollar per munt, te bereiken via digitaal krediet. En dan was er nog een opvallende spreker op het podium: Aleš Michl, directeur van de Centrale Bank van Tsjechië. Zijn land voerde een studie en testportefeuille uit naar bitcoin als reserveactivum, maar de Raad van Bestuur besloot in februari dit jaar vooralsnog niet te investeren. Michl maakte in Las Vegas alsnog het pleidooi, op basis van nieuwe interne data waaruit blijkt dat een allocatie van 1 procent bitcoin het verwachte rendement verhoogt zonder het totale risico significant te vergroten. Hij was daarbij openhartig over de risico's: de prijs kan hoger gaan, maar ook naar nul. Kim Schneider houdt zich dagelijks bezig met tokenisering, het omzetten van echte activa naar digitale tokens op een blockchain. Dat thema was ook prominent aanwezig op de conferentie. Bitcoin bewoog deze week van net onder de 75.000 dollar naar een niveau net onder de 80.000. De prijsanalyse is in handen van Tim Stolte, portfoliomanager bij Amdax en host van de podcast Een Nieuwe Koers. Het blijft een terugkerend thema in de cryptowereld: de vraag wie er achter Bitcoin schuilgaat. Dit keer wijzen de makers van de documentaire Finding Satoshi naar programmeurs Hal Finney en Len Sassaman als de mogelijke bedenkers van het protocol. Deze twee namen worden vaak genoemd als mogelijke kandidaten, maar de theorie van een duo dat samen Bitcoin heeft ontwikkeld, was nog niet eerder zo sterk. Hal Finney was de programmeur van het stel, Len Sassaman schreef het whitepaper en was actief op het forum van Bitcointalk. Waar of niet: de documentaire geeft mooi inzicht in de begindagen van Bitcoin en de rol die Hal Finney, Len Sassaman en andere vroege betrokkenen gehad hebben. Het is niet de eerste poging om de identiteit van Satoshi Nakamoto te ontrafelen. Eerder wees journalist John Carreyrou nog naar Adam Back. Toch zorgen dit soort claims telkens opnieuw voor discussie, zeker wanneer ook prominente namen uit de industrie zich ermee bemoeien. Beide mannen zijn inmiddels overleden, wat het verifiëren van de claims lastig maakt. De vraag blijft daarmee of de waarheid ooit nog boven tafel komt, en of dat überhaupt noodzakelijk is voor het functioneren van Bitcoin. Ondertussen is er ook aandacht voor fraude op voorspellingsmarkten zoals Polymarket en Kalshi. Volgens Politico treden zowel de platforms zelf als justitie steeds vaker op tegen misbruik. Dat soort markten draaien op het inzetten van geld op toekomstige gebeurtenissen, maar blijken ook gevoelig voor manipulatie en voorkennis. Zo kwam recent naar buiten dat een Amerikaanse soldaat geld verdiende door te wedden op een operatie waar hij zelf bij betrokken was. Zijn arrestatie wordt door Polymarket aangehaald als bewijs dat het systeem werkt, al blijft de vraag in hoeverre zelfregulatie voldoende is om dit soort praktijken te voorkomen. Daarnaast zien we dat de traditionele financiële wereld steeds nadrukkelijker aanwezig is in de cryptomarkt. De Bitcoin-ETF’s zijn opnieuw populair, met dagenlange instroom van nieuw kapitaal. Een opvallende nieuwkomer is Morgan Stanley, dat onlangs als eerste grote Amerikaanse bank een eigen spot Bitcoin-ETF lanceerde. Het product onderscheidt zich onder meer met een relatief lage fee van 0,14% en wist al in de eerste weken tientallen miljoenen dollars aan te trekken . Die instroom past in een bredere trend: institutionele partijen lijken Bitcoin steeds vaker te omarmen als onderdeel van hun portefeuille. Tegelijkertijd verandert dat ook het karakter van de markt. Waar crypto ooit werd gedomineerd door pioniers en particuliere beleggers, lijkt Wall Street steeds meer de toon te zetten.
