The Bible is trustworthy. But how do you know—and how do you use it rightly? In Lesson 28 of Christian Ethics and the Old Testament, Dave Rich brings the series' extended examination of scriptural authority to a close and turns the corner toward a foundational question: how do we interpret the Bible we've established as God's Word?Rich opens by tackling the charge of circular reasoning head-on. Is it logically valid to prove the Bible's authority from the Bible itself? He argues yes—and shows why that's the only coherent approach when dealing with any ultimate source of truth. Archaeological evidence and fulfilled prophecy support Scripture's claims, but they don't serve as the foundation. The Bible is its own authority. From there, Rich moves into hermeneutics—the art and science of biblical interpretation—grounding the class in the literal, grammatical, historical method endorsed by Calvin, Luther, and the church's own statement of faith. The goal is simple: discover the original, natural meaning of the text.To make that concrete, Rich walks through several interpretive errors that produce ethical errors—beginning with proof texting and then addressing what he calls hyper-literalism. Using the holy kiss, foot washing, and the head covering passage in 1 Corinthians 11, he demonstrates the difference between a timeless biblical principle and its culturally bound expression. Wooden, context-free obedience to the form can actually undermine the principle the text is trying to teach.Clear thinking about interpretation is inseparable from clear thinking about Christian ethics. ★ Support this podcast ★

What makes the Bible the right place to go for Christian ethics? Before addressing how source material can be misused in moral reasoning, Dave Rich steps back to answer a more foundational question: why is Scripture authoritative in the first place? In Lesson 24 of the Christian Ethics and the Old Testament series, Rich grounds the authority of Scripture in the doctrine of verbal inspiration — the biblical teaching that the words of the original autographs are God-breathed. Working through 2 Timothy 3:13–17, 2 Peter 1:16–21, and John 10:34–36, he demonstrates that Scripture claims for itself the status of God's own words. That claim, he argues, is what makes it binding.Rich also examines what inspiration does and doesn't mean — distinguishing the biblical concept from the common English sense of the word — and surveys how Jesus himself appealed to single words and even verb tenses to settle disputes, showing that verbal inspiration is the only view the Bible's own use of itself supports. The lesson closes with a brief look at the doctrine of preparation: how God's sovereignty over every detail of an author's life and background ensured that what they wrote was exactly what He intended — fully human, fully divine, and fully authoritative. For anyone asking why the Bible should govern how we live, this lesson builds the foundation. ★ Support this podcast ★
Progressive churches no longer even care about Scriptural authority. Conservatives, when they say things like, "we no longer need to adhere to the Old Testament," are equally dismissing the Bible's authority. So, why, why does that authority matter? In this conversational cast o' the pod Mark and I work through various layers concerning the authority of Scripture. What's the difference between inerrancy and infallibility? What takes place between the Old and New Testaments that shows remarkable unity? How is it possible to render the Bible's impact null and void? How can we know the Bible is not propaganda? Come think and laugh with the two of us!

Who are you really following—your favorite pastor, preacher, or platform? Or the Word of God? In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef takes us to the spiritually troubled church in Corinth, where believers were dividing into camps: “I follow Paul… I follow Apollos… I follow Cephas…” (1 Corinthians 1:12). These were godly leaders—yet the “cult of personality” was producing division instead of unity. Dr. Youssef offers a simple heart-check that still applies today: If your confidence starts with “My pastor says…” you may be leaning on a human leader. If your confidence starts with “The Word of God says…” you're anchored to the infallible source of Truth. You'll be reminded that: No human leader is flawless—only Scripture is fully trustworthy. Cults don't make converts to Christ; they make converts to a personality. A church submitted to the authority and inerrancy of the Bible is a church positioned for humility, unity, and spiritual health. Placing yourself under God's Word is the first step toward living holy in a desperately sick culture. If you've felt pulled by competing voices—even Christian ones—this devotional will help you reset your confidence where it belongs: on Jesus Christ and His unchanging Word. Modern Conservatism is collapsing, and it isn't because of the Left. It's because the Right has abandoned biblical order, biblical loyalty, and biblical leadership. In this episode of Uncommon Sense, I'm examining how our so-called conservative leaders have traded Christianity for political convenience, elevating foreign loyalties, unbiblical theology, and female authority over God's clearly established design. When prominent figures openly choose Judaism over Christianity and Israel over America, we must ask: What exactly are we conserving anymore?Scripture is clear: Christianity is a patriarchy with God as its Head, Christ as King, and men called to lead in righteousness. A movement that rejects this order will inevitably rot from the inside out. This episode is a call to return to:Christ over cultureFaith over foreign allegianceGod's elect over globalist prioritiesBiblical men over platformed female personalitiesIf Conservatism wants to survive, it must first repent.--https://www.bible.com/
Why do Catholics look to the Pope and the Magisterium for ultimate authority, while Protestants look to Scripture alone—and what does that mean for everyday faith? Mark continues the “Why Protestantism?” series by examining the heart of the authority debate. He explains how Roman Catholicism understands the Pope, apostolic succession, sacred tradition, and the Magisterium, and why Catholics believe these provide an infallible guide for the Church. Mark then contrasts this with the Protestant conviction that the Bible alone is the final and sufficient authority for faith and life.Mark explores where these two systems diverge, why the Reformers rejected papal infallibility, and how the question of authority shapes everything—from doctrine, to worship, to the clarity of the gospel itself. This episode sets the stage for next week's focus on gospel clarity and why authority matters for every Christian.Episode Highlights00:00 — Framing today's question: who speaks with final authority in the Church? 02:14 — How Catholicism understands authority: Scripture, tradition, and the Magisterium 04:41 — Apostolic succession and why Catholics believe the Pope is Peter's successor 06:58 — What papal infallibility actually means (and what it doesn't) 10:08 — Ex cathedra teaching: when the Pope speaks infallibly 12:15 — Protestant concerns: where is the biblical basis for an infallible papacy? 14:02 — Why the Reformers insisted on sola Scriptura (Scripture alone) 16:40 — The practical implications: how these differences shape the Christian lifeResources:Cornerstone Church Sermons: Listen onlineGavin Ortlund, What It Means to Be Protestant (Truth Unites)Matthew Barrett, The Reformation as RenewalMichael Svigel, RetroChristianity: Reclaiming the Forgotten FaithChad Van Dixhoorn (ed.), Creeds, Confessions, and Catechisms: A Reader's EditionCatechism of the Catholic Church (Vatican)
In Do Whatever They Tell You, we explore Yeshua's words in Matthew 23:2–3, where He tells the crowd to obey the scribes and Pharisees who “sit in Moses' seat.” Did Yeshua affirm their teachings—or was He pointing to something deeper? This teaching examines the historical and textual background showing that Yeshua wasn't validating Pharisaic tradition but affirming obedience to the words of Moses they read aloud each Sabbath (Exodus 18:13–16; Acts 15:21; Matthew 23:1–4). When understood in context, Yeshua's command calls His followers to heed the Torah itself, not the traditions that make void the Word of God.Takeaway: Yeshua directs His people to hear Moses' words and live them—testing every teaching by Scripture, not by man-made authority.

Ken Ham, the man behind the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter, is also the person media loves to hold up as an example of why people shouldn't believe the Bible. Specifically, what's targeted is his belief in a young earth, one that is a few thousand years old as opposed to more than 4.5 billion years old. Yet Ham never wavers from his belief in what the Bible says about creation, the age of the earth, evolution, and the like. On this episode of the Lighthouse Faith podcast, Ham doubles down on his conviction in the authority of the Bible in all things, and yes, even science. For instance, Ham says that regardless of what science has discovered about light may not be the complete picture of its inimitable qualities. The Bible says God created light, "And God said, 'Let there be light.'" But what God didn't tell us in Genesis is of light's wave/particle duality, or that the speed of light is 671 million miles per hour. Ham is a scientist; one who looks at the exact same data as any other trained expert. The difference is that, because of his belief in the authority of the Bible, Ham's conclusions diverge from conventional scientific thought. Learn more about your ad choices. Systematic Theology (1872-1873)Hodge in his Systematic Theology defends the orthodox position that the Scriptures – given by divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit – are both infallible (not capable of error) and inerrant (without error). The implications of this doctrine are very significant in regards to the authority by which Christians are to be governed in matters of faith and practice.
