Israel Adesanya mettait à nouveau son titre des moyens en jeu. Cette fois, c'est le Brésilien Alex Pereira qui était en ligne de mire. La particularité de ce combattant est qu'il a déjà affronté et battu deux fois Izzie. C'était au Glory en kickboxing. La première fois par décision et la seconde par KO sur un terrible crochet du gauche qui avait déconnecté Adesanya de ses sens. On plante un nouveau décor avec une nouvelle discipline. Adesanya assurait tout le monde qu'il ne craignait son nouveau challenger tandis que Pereira affirmait qu'il était dans la tête du champion et qu'il allait le nettoyer. Le co-main event était comme souvent pour les PPV une autre défense de ceinture; celle des poids pailles. La tenante Carla Esparza fraîchement couronnée affrontait l'ancienne détentrice Zhang Weili. Michael Chandler et Dustin Poirier promettaient une guerre. Ce combat était l'autre main event pour bon nombre de fans. L'UFC 281 était aussi le dernier combat de la carrière de Frankie Edgar. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. Returning to the down-sized APEX octagon for the main event, we had a Heavyweight tilt between the #3 ranked, former TKO Heavyweight Champion, Ciryl ‘Bon Gamin' Gane, with an impressive undefeated 8-0 record for an up-and-comer, including defeats against Rozenstruik, JDS and Boser; and his opponent tonight being the #5 ranked, former M-1 Global & Bellator MMA Champion, The Russian contender Alexander ‘Drago' Volkov; who was coming off victories over Overeem and Walt Harris, both in the second round. Gane was the slight favorite going into this bout, with a lot of believers thinking he is on his way to title contention. In the co-main event, we had a Light Heavyweight contest featuring, ‘OSP' – Ovince St. Preux, aka: ‘Von Preux choke' specialist, an unorthodox fighter, who was coming at this bout off a loss to Jamahal Hill last December. His opponent in this bout was Tanner ‘The Bulldozer' Boser; the Canadian brawler had a decent 19-8 record, but was coming into the octagon tonight off of two losses to Ilir Latifi and Andrei Arlovski since last winter. Also on the card, Timur ‘Lucky' Valiev won a hard fought battle to the decision against Raoni Barcelos, making him having won three contests in three weight classes. We also had an exciting Featherweight clash when Andre ‘Touchy' Fili went up against Daniel ‘The Pit' Pineda, in a brawl that ended when Fili accidentally let his hand slip off the chest of Pineda resulting in an accidental eye poke so severe it ended the bout in a NO CONTEST, which was a shame because Fili was en route to likely winning that bout later in the second round. Prior to that, we had exciting matchups between Tim Means and Nicolas Dalby and Renato Moicano vs. Jai Herbert. Returning to the down-sized APEX octagon for the main event, we had a Featherweight tilt between the #4 ranked, Chan Sung Jung, aka: ‘The Korean Zombie', with an impressive 16-6 record, three of those more recent bouts were first round finishes, including Frankie Edgar, Renato Moicano and Dennis Bermudez; and his opponent tonight being the #8 ranked, Dan ‘50K' Ige; who was coming off a first round victory over Gavin Tucker back in March of this year via a sweet Right Cross just 22 seconds into the round. The Zombie, the obvious favorite, won the fight tonight via unanimous decision, outgrappling Ige throughout the five-round main event fight. Post-fight he was awarded his black belt and was noticeably and understandably more excited about this achievement than defeating the likes of Dan Ige. It's time for TKZ to get a title shot. In the co-main event, we had a Heavyweight contest featuring the underdog, Sergey ‘Polar Bear' Spivak, who was coming at this bout on a two-fight win streak against Jared Vanderaa and Carlos Felipe since last July, 2020. His opponent in this bout was #15 ranked Aleksei ‘The Boa Constrictor' Oleinik; the Russian brawler had an impressive 59-15 career record, but was coming into the octagon tonight off of two losses to Chris Daukaus and Derrick Lewis since last August, 2020. He is the only fighter to win a UFC fight via Ezekiel choke, doing so twice; also holding the record for most Ezekiel choke wins in MMA competition, with fourteen. Regardless Okeinik's abundancy of career wins, he lost unanimously when the bout went to decision tonight. In the end, he was not favored on the judges scorecards, Spivak took the ‘W' tonight. Also on the card, Marlon ‘Chito' Vera made an epic effort with a thrilling win after a legendary scrap with ‘Dangerous' Davey Grant, putting an abrupt end to his three-fight win streak. We also had a Welterweight clash when Matt ‘The Immortal' Brown went up against Dhiego Lima, in a tilt that ended when Brown devastated Lima with a Right Cross in the second round. It was a successful weekend past for Colorado MMA fighters and now it's time to get back on the grind, but worry not, because you only have to wait two more days until another UFC Fight Card! But before we start looking towards the next event, let's take a moment to review this past weekend's incredible fight action in your Colorado MMA News, Weekend WrapUp. LFA 97 went down this past Friday night and two Colorado fighters were featured on the card. Elevation Fight Team's Claire “Grizzly” Guthrie got the night started off right with a beautiful three-round performance that saw her take home a unanimous decision victory. Guthrie has continued to improve her striking and movement from fight to fight and her hard work paid off on Friday night as she improved to 2-1 as a pro. Not to be outdone, Michael Stack of Trials MMA got back to his winning ways with a dominant, 2nd rnd TKO win over Jordan Mapa to move to 5-1 as a pro. Congratulations to both fighters on their impressive, victorious performances. And in new matchup announcements… Austin “Osmosis” Jones (8-5) of Factory X will step up on just two weeks notice to face Tyler Ray (6-2) in a welterweight contest at Extreme MMA in West Palm Beach Florida on January 30th. Additionally, after winning a UFC contract on the Dana White Contender Series back in September, Collin Anglin (8-1) of Factory X will make his big-show debut on short notice, February 6th at UFC Fight Night where he will take on Seungwoo Choi (8-3) in a featherweight contest. Anglin will be joining his Factory X teammate, Devonte Smith (10-2) on the card as Smith makes his much anticipated return from an achilles tendon injury and surgery. Smith will face Alex Da Silva (21-3) in lightweight matchup. In the co-main event of the evening, Cory Sandhagen (13-2) of Elevation Fight Team will look to stake his claim as number one contender in the bantamweight division when he takes on former UFC champion, Frankie Edgar at 135 lbs. And headlining the event will be a heavyweight clash between Elevation Fight Team's Alistair Overeem (47-18) and Alexander Volkov (32-8). You will be able to stream the fights live on ESPN+. 3 Colorado fighters throwing down for the LFA promotion on Friday night as well as a return to the Bellator cage for a streaking veteran. Then on Saturday, two Elevation fighters will have the chance to showcase their skills at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. That plus new matchup announcements with big implications in your Colorado MMA News, Weekend Preview. LFA 88 takes place Friday night and a trio of Colorado fighters will have the chance to showcase their skills on the global UFC Fight Pass platform. Ben Lugo (5-3) of Top Notch MMA will take on the undefeated, Natan Levy (4-0) in a featherweight contest after the bout was rescheduled after previously falling through. Lugo is riding a two-fight win streak heading into the night. Additionally, Edwin Chavez (2-0) of Pariah MMA will throw down against Keilen Fantroy in a featherweight fight. Fantroy will be making his pro debut after a prolific 25 fight amateur career. Chavez hasn't yet been beaten in his MMA career, including his time spent as an amateur. This is expected to be an exciting fight and a good test for both fighters. And joining Chavez on the card will be his Pariah MMA teammate, Chaz Alex who will make his pro debut against Robiel Tesfaldet (2-3) in a flyweight matchup. Watch these three athletes put their skills to the test on UFC Fight Pass, Friday night, with fights starting at 7:00 pm MST. Also on Friday night, the 21 fight MMA veteran, Andrew Kapel (15-6) of Elevation Fight Team, coming off of a recent win over former champion, King Mo Lawal, will get back to action against John Salter (17-4) in a clash of rising middleweight contenders. Kapel will be fighting at his more natural weight class this time around after competing at a catchweight of 195 lbs for his last bout against Lawal. Kapel is also riding a 5 fight win streak with 4 early stoppages coming into the bout. Watch Andrew Kapel look to make it 6 in a row, on DAZN, Friday night, with fights starting at 8:00 pm MST. Come Saturday, Shana Dobson (3-4) of Elevation Fight Team will look to get back to her winning ways at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas where she will take on Mariya Agapova in a flyweight bout. This is likely a must-win for Dobson in order to solidify her spot on the UFC roster. Joining his Elevation teammate on the card, Austin Hubbard (12-4) will square off with Joe Solecki (9-2) in a battle at lightweight. Hubbard is coming off of a 2nd round TKO performance his last time out in June. Hubbard is 2-2 overall in the UFC and will be looking to push his record into positive territory with an impressive win on Saturday night. And in new matchup announcements… Youssef “The Morrocan Devil” Zalal (10-2) of Factory X is back in action AGAIN! The Moroccan Devil will fight for his 4th time in the UFC, this year, on October 10th against Seungwoo Choi (8-3) in a featherweight matchup. No venue or location has been announced yet for the event. And the number 2 ranked heavyweight in the world, Curtis “Razor” Blaydes (14-2) of Elevation Fight Team will take on The Black Beast, Derrick Lewis (24-7) in an upcoming main event fight on November 28th! Curtis Blayde's teammate, Alistair Overeem (46-18) has also announced his intention to make one final title run and he will face Agusto Sakai (15-1) in a heavyweight main event at UFC Fight Night on September 5th, with the location yet to be determined. Additionally, Chris Camozzi (25-14) of Factory X has announced that he has joined the PFL roster for their next season. He's hungry for the championship belt and the $1million prize.
