Peristyle Podcast hosts Keely Eure and Ryan Abraham are back in studio in what should have been a preview show for this weekend's match-up with the California Golden Bears, but due to a major COVID-19 outbreak in Berkeley, this game has now been postponed until December 4, the day after the Pac-12 Championship Game. Keely and Ryan talk about what USC's role was in the game getting postponed and how the willingness to play for the Trojans overcame the willingness to get a forfeit win, making the path to a bowl game a little easier. They also talk about what is left for the Trojans this season, including a chance at winning a bowl game for the first time since the 2016 football season, give updates on the injury situation around the program including quarterback Kedon Slovis, five-star freshman defensive end Korey Foreman and star running back Keaontay Ingram and as always they answer listener questions over email, voicemail and text messages. Another sport has crowned a champion, so the fall sports are now front and center. I've got all that's shaking throughout the entire landscape as Episode #223 is chock full of opinions, analysis and critiques ready for your listening pleasure. On deck: (6:07) With baseball out of our consciousness, all of early part of the NBA, NHL seasons, the teeth of the college football schedule about to be played, it's going to be all about The Shield (a.k.a. The NFL) They went through a week that they'd like to forget as the league had to endure one its players involved in a fatal car accident (i.e. Henry Ruggs) a positive COVID test and spoken untruth from arguably its best player (i.e. Aaron Rodgers) and drama surrounding its talented, yet mercurial wide receiver (i.e. Odell Beckham, Jr.) as he gets his release from the Cleveland Browns. Of course, I'll discuss my winners (Denver & Cleveland) and losers (Buffalo, LA Rams, New Orleans) of Week 9 and how this season has been underwhelming to date. (40:22) The craziness of college football has come to roost yet again as Michigan State falls by the wayside and are on the outside looking in for the playoffs come New Year's Eve. I'll detail the week that was in the sport, including an early look as to who I see making it to the college football playoff late next month. (50:56) I'll recap a World Series championship win by the Atlanta Braves, as unexpected of a Series run that we've seen. Now, we must fasten our seatbelts for what looks like a long, cold, hard winter of negotiations as the owners and players will have to come up with a new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) which will most likely be a fight to the bitter end. Will there be a new agreement in time for the 2022 season? Will it be delayed? Postponed? (56:17) The NBA is going to have to deal with another scenario regarding an owner with alleged racist and misogynistic comments as Robert Sarver of the Suns has been reported in the past week by ESPN. Even with the investigation ongoing, what should the NBA do? Is Sarver on his way out? I'll also take a trip around the Association to see what's the latest, including normalcy is back in the Eastern Conference, Joel Embiid will have to sit out due to a positive COVID test and is this the beginning of the end of LeBron James's indestructibility? (1:03:52) The ongoing saga in Buffalo with center Jack Eichel has come to an end. He gets dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights for players and draft picks. Who got the better of the deal? Plus, Sidney Crosby's return to the ice from a wrist injury was brief (i.e. COVID) and the rest of what's happening on the ice as we're closing in on the first complete month of the NHL season. (1:13:27) Canelo Alvarez has unified all four titles in the super middleweight division. With his record (57-1-2, 39 KO's) is he considered an all time great fighter in the history of boxing? (1:20:05) In MMA, Kamaru Usman defeats longtime rival Colby Covington in a close decision on Saturday night as they've competed in ten fights! Is this one time (or five times) too many? Has this matchup become tiresome? (1:22:50) Of course, I wrap up with my Hero and Zero of the Week. In this week's episode Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe discuss Alex Dowsett's Hour record attempt. Dowsett held the record back in 2015, before Bradley Wiggins broke it, and he aimed to win it back from the current holder Victor Campenaerts in Mexico this week. He fell just short but he won a lot of admirers for raising awareness of haemophilia, a condition he has overcome to reach the top of his sport, and for putting together the team for his record attempt himself. What does his near-miss mean for the record and who will go for it next? In part two, we talk about the 2022 Giro d'Italia grande partenza in Hungary. Postponed from 2020 because of the pandemic, Budapest will finally host the start of the Giro next May and the three stages unveiled this week by the organisers look more promising than the original plans. With the Giro route being unveiled bit-by-bit over the course of a week has the race lost something without a 'big reveal'? And what else might Italy's grand tour have in store? Finally, Lionel talks about his weekend trip to Belgium to see the Koppenbergcross. We hear from 'cross legend Sven Nys to take the current temperature of the scene and the possibility of Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert returning later in the season. In terms of the luxury industry, a silk mask was much more representative of the last, pandemic-riddled 19 months than a silk dress. Despite this, love and the respective multi-million-dollar wedding industry built around it were not canceled. ”Love was postponed, but not canceled,” said Monique Lhuillier, co-founder and creative director of her namesake luxury brand, on the latest Glossy Podcast.  Before she founded her brand in 1996, an engaged Lhuillier was faced with the two “extremes” of either “traditional” or “minimal” dresses, she said. “I wanted something that had the elements of tradition -- the lace, the long sleeve -- but with an open back, giving [brides] something unexpected. And that's what I set out to do.” As Monique Lhuillier, the brand, celebrates its 25-year anniversary, Lhuillier and Tom Bugbee, her co-founder and husband, are continuing to bridge the design gap with the brand's extensive custom and ready-to-wear bridal and bridesmaid dresses, accessories and shoes.  When events came to a halt last year, Monique Lhuillier and its clientele held onto glimmers of tulle and lace, and the hope that traditional weddings would soon return. Using social media posts, the brand's nationwide retail locations and customer service representatives, the company never lost contact with brides, Lhuillier said. In the future, Lhuillier said she hopes to continue growing the brand's DTC business, as well as its presence internationally, on the red carpet and in the beauty space. “We are exploring everything,” she said. “Because you have to stay ahead.”

We'll do our best to get him back on the show at a later date. *** Tonight I welcome Jordan Hopkins back to the show. Hopkins is a writer, editor, and independent, investigative journalist based in Philadelphia. He's been covering the slimy money trail left behind the right-wing extremist slugs infecting our social and political networks. Listeners of the show will remember that the last time Jordan was on the show, we talked about his article, “A Party of Grifters” unpacking the grift at the core of the emerging Patriot Party and the rise of extremism in PA more broadly. Jordan has followed the dark money trail once again, exposing the influence that right-wing extremist billionaires are having on local school districts. His article featured in Unicorn Riot last week, “School Board Disruptions Escalate, Funded by Conservative Dark Money,” will be the focus on our show tonight. She heads Boomfox Productions, producing for various sync projects, artists and songwriters. Kris is also the founder of Produce Like a Boss, which is an online coaching program geared towards the songwriter/producer, rather than the engineer. Her “non-techy” and simplified style of teaching is helping tons of artists learn how to produce their own music. During the interview, we spoke about playing in a cover band in Asia, rebranding herself for production, her approach to communicating with artists, trends in production, and much more. On the intro I'll take a look at how the streaming dollar breaks down, and Winter NAMM 2022 gets postponed. var podscribeEmbedVars = { epGuid: 'https://bobbyoinnercircle.com/?p=2978', rssUrl: 'https://bobbyoinnercircle.com/feed/podcast/', backgroundColor: 'white', font: undefined, fontColor: undefined, speakerFontColor: undefined, height: '600px', showEditButton: false, showSpeakers: true, showTimestamps: true };

Listen and subscribe at www.JustProWrestlingNews.com I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Tuesday, August 31, 2021. A special welcome to those of you listening on OccupyProWrestling.com. If you want to bring our updates to your website...email us: desk@justprowrestlingnews.com. (STINGER: WWE) The wrath of Hurricane Ida led to WWE postponing a SmackDown show at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The SmackDown on October 1st will now be held at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore. The Smoothie King Center's primary tenants, the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans, announced Monday that the arena had "minor exterior damage" from Ida...and “will be prepared to host games for the upcoming season without issue”. The Pelicans' only home preseason game is scheduled for October 6th. Tonight's NXT has Johnny Gargano vs. LA Knight...Tommaso Ciampa vs. Ridge Holland...Kyle O'Reilly vs. Duke Hudson...and Roderick Strong vs. Ikemen Jiro. On last night's Raw… Nia Jax pinned the Raw Women's Champion Charlotte Flair...in a match that frankly got a little ugly at one point. Earlier in the show, Jax laid out Rhea Ripley...after Ripley had beaten Shayna Baszler. The United States Champion Damian Priest held an open challenge...which led to a 3-Way against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Priest prevailed...pinning McIntyre with The Reckoning. The Raw Tag Team Champs Randy Orton & Riddle beat WWE Champ Bobby Lashley & MVP to retain their titles. Riddle pinned MVP with the Floating Bro. After the match, Lashley speared Riddle, but Orton retaliated with an RKO. Also last night, Omos pinned John Morrison. AJ Styles submitted Xavier Woods with the Calf Crusher. The Viking Raiders beat Jinder Mahal & Veer. Mahal took the pin. Plus, Karrion Kross submitted Humberto Carrillo with the Kross Jacket. Three matches promoted during last week's Raw did NOT happen on last night's show. A match between Eva Marie and Doudrop came the closest to happening. But Eva turned her back during Doudrop entrance...so Doudrop attacked her from behind...and the referee determined Eva was unable to compete. An interview with Goldberg was shown on last night's Raw, where he said he needs knee surgery following his loss to Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam. But Goldberg also said he's coming after Lashley. WWE formally introduced a new class of Performance Center recruits on Monday. They include Joseph Fatu, the younger brother of Jimmy & Jey Uso - all sons of WWE Hall Of Famer Rikishi... Bobby Steveson, the brother of Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson... Ben Buchanan, the son of former WWE Tag Team Champ Bull Buchanan...and Joshua Dawkins, the nephew of former NBA player Darryl Dawkins. (STINGER: AEW) At least ELEVEN matches are announced for tonight's AEW Dark, including QT Marshall vs. Evil Uno...Matt Sydal vs. PAC...and Frankie Kazarian vs. Serpentico. On last night's AEW Dark: Elevation… Jora Johl, still working to cement his place in the Hardy Family Office, got his first win in AEW. He beat Kal Herro. Fuego Del Sol picked up a rare win in AEW. He and Sammy Guevara beat Chaos Project. Guevara pinned Luther with the GTH. Also, Nyla Rose & Diamante beat Big Swole & Julia Hart. Rose pinned Hart with the Beast Bomb. Hikaru Shida, Emi Sakura and Jade Cargill are now added to the Women's Casino Battle Royale at All Out. (STINGER: New Japan) New Japan Strong is switching nights. The episodes currently debut every Friday night at 10PM Eastern. BUT starting September 18th, the episodes will drop on Saturday nights at 8PM Eastern. Major League Wrestling announced that Tajiri will make his MLW debut at its show in Philadelphia on October 2nd. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Tuesday, August 31. 192: What's REALLY Going On With the Job Market

A reminder that I've moved to a once-a-month webinar format, held on the third Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m. Eastern. The topic is different each month, and I jam-pack them full of content. To learn about the next webinar: https://mastercoachwebinars.carrd.co We're hearing a lot about “The Great Resignation” of 2021 and the volatile job market. I wanted to personally do a deep dive on this topic, and decided to share what I uncovered with you guys. According to the Labor Department, a record 4 million people quit their jobs in April 2021, starting what is called the “Great Resignation” period. People began to see their lives differently. While some realized how much time they were spending commuting and want to continue working remotely, others felt the exhaustion of digital overload and lack of connections. At the same time, companies like Apple are delaying its return to the office to October as the Delta variant surges. Employees are claiming more flexibility, defining hybrid work as the best alternative in the post-pandemic workplace to adapt to the VUCA context. A report by TINYpulse shows that 62.8% of HR leaders say that hybrid work optimizes employee performance in their organization Here are some statistics to set the stage: -According to Monster, 95% of workers are currently considering changing jobs -Microsoft Research found 41% of the global workforce is considering changing jobs -HR executives expect only 8% of employees to quit once COVID restrictions are lifted. -According to Global Workplace Analytics, the hybrid work model is here to stay; 25%-30% of the U.S. workforce will be working partially from home by the end of 2021. According to rainmakerthinking's report, “Winning the Talent Wars,” they found the following: -Voluntary unplanned turnover – the “quit rate” - is increasing -Pent-up departure demand – the “want to quit rate” is also increasing -Early voluntary departure of new hires – employed for less than 18 months – is increasing What is going on? -Workforce burnout and depression -Fear of infection, resulting in fear of returning to the workplace -Extended unemployment and other benefits – effectively de-incentivizing the workforce -Increased family care needs -Location disruption -Changes in certain industries, such as healthcare, education, and public safety -Hastened retirements and career-pausing -Postponed schooling/training/graduation, causing delayed workforce entry What are the costs? -Sales are missed, orders can't be fulfilled, services can't be delivered -Current staff members are burnt out from overcommitment -Overtime costs are increasing -Perpetual understaffing causes bad habits as employees see cutting corners as the only solution -New hires are getting the on-boarding and initial training they need to be fully engaged and productive According to “Winning the Talent Wars,” these are the top four causes of early departures: -Buyer's remorse – the employer oversold the job and made promises they can't keep out of desperation to staff their vacant positions -Inadequate on-boarding and initial training -Hand-off to an unsupportive manager -Limited flexibility “When employees, whether new hires or longer-term, decide to quit when the time is right, we call this ‘leaving in your head,” or ‘leaving without leaving.” This phenomenon is sometimes the explanation for diminished performance or bad attitude from a previously good employee.” These are the top five causes of mid-stage departures: -Overcommitment syndrome for an extended period of time – creating “siege mentality” that feels like an assault. -Disengaged or unsupportive manager -Limited flexibility -Lack of career path -Relationship conflict “As hiring soars to record levels in the post-pandemic era, quit rates are also soaring as pent-up departure demand is released.” Where are the most vacancies? Construction, manufacturing, warehousing and pharmacy jobs are now in ample supply, the firm's data shows. "The economy is still all about the pandemic," said Jed Kolko, chief economist at the Indeed Hiring Lab. "The biggest increase in job postings are those that either help get us through the pandemic or help us get out of the pandemic." The hottest jobs sectors are those that "make and move things," Kolko added. E-commerce, warehouse and delivery jobs, all of which surged during the pandemic, are now growing at an even faster clip. The number of warehouse jobs listed on Indeed as of early April was 57% above what they were before the virus struck. The broader logistics field could add as many as 4.5 million new jobs over the next five years, according to Burning Glass, a labor market analytics firm. Along with frontline jobs, like truck drivers, that includes data analysts, software engineers, project managers and other positions required to maintain supply chains, Burning Glass predicted. Factories that make goods are going through their own labor pains. Manufacturers laid off fewer workers during the first wave of COVID-19 compared with service industries. Meanwhile, consumer demand for everything from personal protective equipment to vehicles has surged, putting a squeeze on the sector.  The drive to vaccinate people against COVID-19 is also spawning job opportunities in pharmacies and other health care organizations. Across the U.S, more than 1 in 5 job openings at the end of February was in health care and social assistance, according to Labor Department data.  Which industries are still hurting? -Education -IT -Beauty & Wellness -Hospitality & Tourism Here are seven trends that the Microsoft report highlighted leaders need to know when planning a return to the office. 1. Flexible work is here to stay. 73 percent of workers surveyed want flexible remote work options to continue, while at the same time, 67 percent are craving more in-person time with their teams. Companies should consider re-designing physical spaces to accommodate hybrid work environments better 2. Leaders are out of touch with their employees. People expect their employers and leaders to empathize with their unique challenges. More one-on-one meetings and informal conversations are required, especially for remote workers. If working in hybrid work environments, face-to-face meetings can enhance the connection even more. 3. High productivity is masking an exhausted workforce. 54% feel overworked. Microsoft discovered that apart from an increase in time spent in meetings, the average Teams meeting is 10 minutes longer (up from 35 to 45 minutes). In addition, the average Teams user sends 45%  more chats per week and 42% more chats per person after hours, with 62% of meetings not planned. 4. Gen Z is at risk and will need to be re-energized. Employees ages 18-25 reported that they were more likely to struggle balancing work with life (+8 percentage points) and to feel exhausted after a typical day of work (+8 percentage points) when compared to older generations. For Gen Z's, feeling a sense of purpose and connection is essential to feel satisfied at work, but remote work makes this more challenging, especially for those new to the workforce. 5. Shrinking networks are endangering innovation. Respondents who reported weaker workplace relationships were less likely to report thriving at activities that lead to innovation. “When you lose connections, you stop innovating” said Dr. Nancy Baym, Senior Principal Researcher at Microsoft. 6. Authenticity will spur productivity and well-being. At the same time that networks shrank, a good trend that started last year was increasing authentic relations with those closest to us. The research shows that 39% of people in the study said they are more likely to be their whole selves at work compared to one year ago. These more personal interactions can increase inclusion, productivity, innovation and psychological safety. 7. Talent is everywhere in a hybrid work world. Together with an increase in resignations, the marketplace is broader as companies are more eager to hire employees living on the other side of the planet. It is also more accessible for minorities, women with children, and talent residing in smaller cities that prefer remote work. Are you in the wrong job that chips away at you every day? The CareerSpring document and coaching program will help you find a job that uses your zone of genius, recognizes your value, and pays you what you're worth.
