It's variety with a capital V in this episode of Authorised. Maryrose Cuskelly's latest book The Campers is more a How Dare They? than a Whodunnit, making it an even more intriguing read and featuring a subject matter sure to evoke much discussion. On the other hand, John Wayne Parr has bled in the pursuit of his life goal. He carries the scars from 110 wins in the ring all over the world and proudly boasts 10 world titles. The Campers (Allen & Unwin) and The Fighter (Hachette) come from two vastly different parts of the literary world but provide unique experiences for the reader, as detailed by Maryrose and John in their chat with Kevin. A pioneer of Australian kickboxing and Muay Thai joins Betoota Talks this week. John Wayne Parr talks about the early days of a career that would ultimately see him become the first household name in this sport. The son of traveling horse trainers from Queensland, ‘The Gunslinger' had a very similar childhood to the Karate Kid. Finding friends and family in the martial arts gyms of suburban Australia, before taking off to Thailand at 19 to learn the nuts and bolts of MMA. What a career he's had. His new book is called The Fighter: The Legendary Life of an Australian Champion and it's out nowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
German Muay Thai is on the rise! Less talk- more Muay Thai ! Have fun

On episode 36 of the B-side I speak to Australian boxing legend Nader Hamdan. Once ranked No.2 in the world behind Oscar De La Hoya in 2003. He fought some of the world's best, across all corners of the globe waging wars against the likes of Anthony Mundine, Arthur Abraham, Sam Soliman, and John Wayne Parr. He's thrown his hat into the entertainment ring, appearing on shows like The Contender, East West, Mr Inbetween, The Ropes, Heartbreak High, and Underbelly. We talk about growing up in the diverse and once working-class suburb of Marrickville, where he was bullied as a child and became an angry, out-of-control teenager; who turned his life around by taking his passion for fighting off the street and into the ring at Newtown Police boys club. There he met trainer and fellow Marrickville legend, world champion boxer Jeff Fenech. He talks about his boxing career, shares the details of his toughest fight, and the drive that gave him the ability to push through serious injuries and never take a backward step, earning him the ring name 'Lionheart'.We discuss what happens behind the scenes of a fight promotion, the rules of trash talk, and how he caught the attention of some of the world's best once he started embracing the bad-boy persona. And we jam on the merit of 'entertainment' or 'exhibition' fights in the boxing world where YouTubers like Jake Paul or ex-footballers like Paul Gallen and Sonny Bill Williams fight legitimate boxers or MMA stars like Mark Hunt.Nader talks about his son Hassan Hamdan, a potential boxing champion in his own right, who is following in his dad's footsteps, being coached by Jeff Fenech and making waves on the boxing scene. And he talks about the principles of discipline, respect, and self-belief, being crucial to establishing his successful career in boxing, and have become the driving force behind his mission to help bring direction to troubled youth and help others turn their lives around. This was a cracking episode, Nader is a beautiful soul and a great friend, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Cheers. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN! - Jay hops in his rental car for this one and hits the hi-way going south of Calgary to what used to be called the "fight capital of Canada" Lethbridge, AB - the home of Progressive Fighting Academy (PFA) and former professional Thai boxer and now championship coach, Brad Wall. Brad and Jason were on the same fight scene as young pups ('99 - 2000) and have been hugely involved since, yet have never had the chance to sit and actually talk, till today! Brad shares his unique story as to how he found Muay Thai, how he ran into and was mentored under the great Sangtiennoi (RIP) while at the same time training beside the legendary John Wayne Parr! Of course we bring this journey right up to today where Brad coaches many Thai boxing and MMA champions including WBC Canada defending champion Cody Jerome and female rising star Kate Clements who BOTH have their eyes on the big prize - WINNING THE ROAD TO ONE CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE MUAY THAI WORLD CUP! I've said it many times and here is 1 more. getting to chat with my peers of DECADES for the 1st time has to be my favorite thing about this podcast and Brad was no exception. SHOUT OUT TO YOU BRAD!

Have you ever wanted to move to Thailand? Many have but few have done it, in this episode dana and Mike break down how they did it, why they did and what lessons you can learn from them. When you move to Thailand there are a lot of things to consider like visa, where you will live, how you will live, and what you will do for work when you get here, even if you can legally work once you are here. Deciding where you want to live is another thing to consider, do you want to live in the Big Mango? the best city in the world, Bangkok? do you want to live further south directly on some of the best beaches in the world or do you want to live up north in the chill hipster paradise of Chaingmai. People want to move to Thailand for a number of different reasons, they might move to Thailand to retire, they might move here to get away from the US, UK, Canada, or some other country, some move to Thailand alone, some more to Thailand with Family, some move to Thailand to train Muay Thai and become the next John Wayne Parr. But no matter what your reason you are going to want to find out more info about how to move to Thailand, and that is what this podcast episode is about. it's all a dream, but it can also be your reality. We chat to the legend that is John Wayne Parr about being tossed in jail in the US, being whacked by a barstool and fighting Choc Mundine. Plus SBW returns to Bondi, and losing continues in Brisbane.
Israel Adesanya joins the show for a quick but entertaining conversation. Having taken the combat sports world by storm on his meteoric rise to super-stardom, “Stylebender” has become a popular target for many of MMA’s biggest names. While solely focused on defending his middleweight crown in early summer opposite Paulo Costa, Adesanya is confident in his abilities against Jon Jones and even the likes of heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic. Coupled with dominant performances, Adesanya has also shown an incredible knack for promotion and pushing his individual brand via social media. We’ll discuss what matchups at 185 are most intriguing, the inevitability of a showdown with Jon Jones, and what younger combat athletes can learn from Izzy’s style of promotion and showmanship. John Wayne Parr returns to the show to discuss his return to action following a brief retirement from combat sports. While this interview took place some time ago, it remains one of the best conversations we’ve had with the “Gunslinger.” As is the case with most fighters, the realities of retirement are difficult to cope with and that was certainly the case for the multiple time Muay Thai champ. Having fell into a deep depression following his sensational win over fellow Aussie combat star Anthony Mundine, Parr had become visually irritant with family and friends. That is until John accompanied his daughters boyfriend, Rocky Ogden, to a kickboxing event with ONE Championship. After speaking with Chatri Sityodtong and being offered a contract that could not refuse, the “Gunslinger” decided to return for a few more showdowns against top level talent before finally deciding to hang up his holster. We will discuss all that and much more in this quality conversation with John Wayne Parr. Be sure to subscribe and share!
