Today we are talking PFL's 2023 tournament championships. While fights like Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Clay Collard and Kayla Harrison vs. Aspen Ladd were fun, sitting through the broadcast was mind numbing at best. We will talk about what PFL can do to make the production of their event better. But we can't talk about just that. We have to talk about fights! PFL put on six title fights and we talk about the best on the night. Olivier Aubin-Mercier has won ten straight fights and beat some of the best in the world all while earning $2 million in the process. If you missed it, his fight with Clay Collard was the best on the night and an absolute pleasure to watch. We will also go into depth on why Aspen Ladd gave Kayla Harrison such trouble on the ground despite Harrison being the better fighter there. There's Derek Brunson's fight IQ against Ray Cooper III we discuss, Biaggio Ali Walsh, and Khai Wu vs. Phil Caracappa as well. What do you think of the 2023 PFL Championships? Good fights? Bad production? Sound off in the comments! Welcome to the 6th Round Retro Post-Fight Show. This is the show that digs into the archives and gives you a comprehensive review of classic MMA events, that span as far back as UFC 1. Join Eddie Mercado & Victor Rodriguez as they delve into the world of the PFL (Professional Fighter's League) 2018 Championship Event this week, straight out of the archives of yesteryear. So let's take a trip back to Mon, Dec 31, 2018. The guys will explore the inaugural championship MMA event for the 2018 PFL season, entitled: ‘PFL 2018 Championship', aka: ‘PFL 11' – complete with results, analysis, and of course a few laughs. The event was broadcast live on New Year's Eve (Dec 31, 2018) as mentioned, LIVE from the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in NYC, NY. For those of you not in the know, the PFL is the first major MMA organization in which individual athletes compete in a regular season, post-season and championship, rather than on a year-round basis; putting on fights across six weight-divisions: featherweight, women's lightweight, lightweight, welterweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. These events are held within a ten-sided MMA cage known as the ‘SmartCage', adhering to the unified rules of MMA, with the exception of prohibiting any elbow strikes. For more on their Fight Format and Point System, which determines the championship series outcomes, read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_Fighters_League#Fight_format_and_point_system The event was the eleventh and final event of the 2018 season. Each champion in the six weight classes was crowned and won a championship prize of $1 million each. For this debut season they opened the fighter pool at the beginning of the season with 72 fighters across their six weight-classes, competing in seven regular season events. The top eight in each division squared off in single elimination, bracket-style playoff fights. Overall, we had a total of seven bouts, with five of them ending in finishes, resulting in six new millionaires (prior to taxes, of course), and including one two-time Olympic Gold Medalist in her third MMA fight. The event had what TV Ratings averaging 204,000 viewers. If you would like to watch the event, it can be found in the PFL Archives OR via the Official PFL YouTube Channel under the names of the fighters of each bout. Join us to rediscover all the action and discuss as we go along! Let's check it out! With no UFC card at the weekend, the attention of the MMA-watching world was on Bellator and PFL, who went head to head with solid cards of action last Friday night.Bellator 264 saw middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi retain his 185-pound title with victory over No. 1 contender John Salter, while former welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov marked his return to the Bellator cage with an impressive win.Bantamweight contender Raufeon Stots also had a night to remember, as he became the only man not named Petr Yan to hand Russian contender Magomed Magomedov an L.Meanwhile, there was controversy over at the PFL Playoffs, as Clay Collard was denied a place in the $1 million lightweight season final after a hotly disputed unanimous decision went the way of his opponent Raush Manfio – despite the majority of those watching scoring the fight for “Cassius.”Things were more clear cut at welterweight, however, as former champions Ray Cooper III and Magomed Magomedkerimov both picked up clear decision wins to book a titanic ex-champ vs. ex-champ battle for the 2021 170-pound crown. On this week’s show, we recap both events, and also take a look ahead to the weekend’s offerings, with Bellator, PFL and the UFC all hosting fight cards. There’s also time to discuss Dustin Poirier’s next move, as he continues to cross words with Nate Diaz on social media. Would he really rather face Diaz than challenge Charles Oliveira for the UFC lightweight title? We give our take. It’s another packed show, and it’s all yours, right here. Exclusive interview with Ray after PFL 10. Funny Story...he got released from the arena before he gave his post fight interview. I actually had to go to his hotel and meet him in the lobby lol. He is such a grounded human being. This is my 3rd time interviewing him. He is so humble.
