In this episode of the show, Binksy, Raj, Baldy and Stu discuss an eventful couple of weeks, which have seen RCB win their way to the IPL final, England demolish Zimbabwe, Karun Nair strengthen his case for a Test recall, Shubman Gill named India Test captain and Copilot names its favourite podcast host. We start by talking about IPL 2025's most recent game, which saw the Mumbai Indians advance, ending Gujarat Titans' season in the process. Sai Sudharsan was brilliant once again, but ultimately it was another stunning delivery from Jasprit Bumrah that turned the match. We also discuss Royal Challengers Bengaluru's first appearance in a final since 2016, with Josh Hazlewood and Virat Kohli leading the way with ball and bat respectively. But will they face Mumbai or the Punjab Kings in the big dance? Next we head to England to discuss their recent victory against Zimbabwe. Was it the perfect way to start the summer? Is Shoaib Bashir the answer? Is there a way in for Jacob Bethell after Ollie Pope's huge hundred? And how many references can we make to songs by Sam Cook? India named their Test squad to face England, and it is filled with stars but has a very new era feel to it thanks to the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Karun Nair's made a strong case for inclusion against the Lions, Sai Sudharsan's New Zealand-based fan club is growing and Shubman Gill has been named captain. To round out the show, there's brief mention of the World Test Championship Final build up (full preview coming next week) and the Black Caps' coaching search, which looks set to be finalised very soon. This week we discuss how new India captain Shubman Gill may lead the side. A former member of India's coaching set up, R Sridhar, is our guest. He explains how Gill is a mix of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. It's not just a new era for India, but also for England. Harry Brook is the new men's white ball captain for a series of three ODIs and three T20s against West Indies. We ask whether Brook is the right choice to improve England's poor form in limited overs cricket, and whether this extra responsibility could affect his Test form. Plus: the team also reflect on Sikandar Raza's remarkable journey from playing for Zimbabwe in Nottingham on Saturday, to hitting the title winning runs in the Pakistan Super League in Lahore on Sunday.Photo: India's Shubman Gill celebrates after scoring a century during the third day of the first Test cricket match between India and Bangladesh at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 21, 2024. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Jamie and Stu look back at week 6 of IPL 2025, which saw the top 7 sides break away, Vaibhav Suryavanshi score a 35-ball century, Mumbai demolish Rajasthan, KKR win a final-ball thriller, Punjab secure a crucial two points against LSG, England name their first Test squad of the summer, and plenty more! We start this week by talking about Sunday's double-header, which saw KKR seal a nervy 1-run victory against RR to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, and Punjab Kings take a big step towards the semi-finals with an impressive victory against LSG. We spend a long time discussing Vaibhav Suryavanshi's cover drive, as well as the skill and quality of Arshdeep Singh as the battle for the Top 4 heats up. From there, we move to Stu's claim that this tournament is tracking towards a Mumbai Indians v Gujarat Titans final. Ryan Rickelton joined Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the runs this week, while Trent Boult continues to take wickets alongside Jasprit Bumrah. For GT, it's the top 3 of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler who continue to shine alongside their balanced bowling attack led by Prasidh Krishna. We discuss how IPL form could lead to Test opportunities, and whether the upcoming match between these two sides could be a preview of the big dance. One side who haven't been flying high in 2025 is Sunrisers Hyderabad, and despite their tiniest of tiny chances of sneaking into the playoffs, we decide it is time to bite the bullet and discuss what went wrong this season. The short answer is everything, but without Baldy there to defend him somehow the conversation turns to whether Pat Cummins is a marquee player in T20 cricket and how SRH could look to improve their bowling attack in 2026. We round out the show by talking some Test cricket, thanks to England naming their first squad of the summer to take on Zimbabwe in a one-off fixture. The boys evaluate the squad, noting Ben Stokes on the comeback trail, an injury to Jordan Cox, a potential debut for Sam Cook, Shoaib Bashir's inclusion and what bearing any of it could have for an exciting summer to come. As IPL 2025 approaches its halfway stage, one trend is becoming increasingly clear: teams with strong captain-coach partnerships are thriving. Whether it's Axar Patel and Hemang Badani, Ashish Nehra and Shubman Gill, or Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting — clear communication and mutual trust are driving success. We saw a similar impact last year with Gautam Gambhir's return. This raises an important question: Is the IPL becoming more like football, where man-management takes centre stage? What exactly is the coach's role — to offer technical input or to manage egos and personalities? In the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast, Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Rishabh Beniwal dive into the evolving role of coaches and dissect the worst captain-coach combos of the season. Tune in now! Produced by Prateek Lidhoo Sound mix by Suraj Singh
In this episode of the show, Baldy, Jamie and Stu look back at the opening game of IPL 2025, before diving into team by team previews of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. Recorded on Sunday 23 March, we start by discussing game 1 of the tournament, which saw RCB record an impressive victory against the defending champions KKR. New recruit Josh Hazlewood was excellent, as well as Krunal Pandya, as RCB restricted Kolkata from 100-1 to 174-8. Then it was Virat Kohli, Phil Salt and Rajit Patidar who took charge as the away side cruised to a comfortable victory in the end. Was that the perfect formula for RCB? Will they be able to repeat it enough times to make the playoffs in 2025? For the Delhi Capitals, there were questions around how much Harry Brook's decision to withdraw has left them short on options, plus a chat about the potential impact of spin duo Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Gujarat on the other hand have a big-name Englishman in the squad in the form of Jos Buttler, but do he and Shubman Gill have enough batting support to help out their well-balanced bowling attack? Punjab have completely overhauled their roster, with Ricky Ponting bringing in a host of his fellow countrymen to join Arshdeep, Prabhsimran and Shashank Singh, plus a new captain in Shreyas Iyer. Will the overseas matchwinners bring enough consistency to lead this team to the knockout stages? And will the young Indian talent like Priyansh Arya, Suryansh Shedge and Nehal Wadhera perform well enough to give Punjab a wide range of options for their bowling attack? For Lucknow's not-just-regular giants, their strategy seems to have been to stack the batting with overseas talent and rely on a quality local group of seamers to assist Ravi Bishnoi with the ball. But have injuries to Mayank Yadav and co. already crushed their title dreams? To round out the show, the boys do their best to predict some playoff teams and give their pick for who will be lifting the trophy at the end of May. In part one of our IPL preview series for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League, the boys cover Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans. Mumbai Indians were dreadful last season, but have had a big revamp and look like they have fixed some of the huge holes in their line up. If Jasprit Bumrah can return to fitness quickly they area a team to watch. Punjab Kings have hired Ricky Ponting to help turn their fortunes around. Their new look team, captained by Shreyas Iyer, should be less gaff prone than before. Can they make their first IPL play-offs in forever? Gujarat Titans are also coming off a down year. Will the addition of Jos Buttler help them reset, as Shubman Gill has another go at leading the team. www.pitch-mag.co.uk/ - use code Pitch+CricketPod15 for 15% off your first order Links to podcast audio: https://linktr.ee/thecricketpod Our website: thecricketpod.com Support the podcast: patreon.com/thecricketpod Buy merchandise: https://seriouscricket.co.uk/teamwear/stores/the-cricket-podcast/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecricketpod Buy coffee: https://cricketcoffeeco.com/products/the-cricket-podcast-coffee Twitter and Instagram: @thecricketpod Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy daily review, Baldy and Stu review the Group A clash between India and Pakistan, and look ahead to the Black Caps' upcoming match against Bangladesh. It was a fairly comfortable Indian victory in the end in what shaped as an important fixture for both sides. Babar Azam flashed his quality early on, but Hardik Pandya and the Indian spin trio chipped out wickets whenever they were needed. Despite a couple of quality deliveries to dismiss Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, once Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer built a partnership, it became clear the 240 was never going to be enough, with Kohli sealing his hundred, the win and India's spot in the semi-finals with the last shot of the match. Why fix something that isn't broken? India seem to be overcomplicating their combination in the ODI series against England, which is a worrying sign ahead of the Champions Trophy. There appears to be a real problem of plenty for coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma. Why on earth did they leave out Shreyas Iyer for the series opener in Nagpur? An injury to Virat Kohli meant Shreyas got an opportunity after a late phone call from the skipper. The star batter revealed he was not in the XI as late as the eve of the match. India had initially decided to play both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in the XI at the expense of Shreyas. However, after Shreyas let his bat do the talking in the first ODI, India dropped Yashasvi for the second match.Similarly, India picked four spinners in their squad for the Champions Trophy and later added Varun Chakravarthy. Why are we mixing formats again? Why not Kuldeep Yadav instead of Varun? The team combination issue isn't limited to India. Injuries have forced the likes of Pakistan and Australia to rethink their line-ups.With just over a week to go before the Champions Trophy, things are starting to heat up.In the latest episode of the Sledging Room podcast, we discuss the selection muddle and the build-up to the Champions Trophy.Tune In!Produced by Garvit SrivastavaSound mixed by Rohan Bharti
India's T20I side is looking formidable after a dominant 4-1 series win over England at home, continuing their impressive run in the shortest format of the game. Under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy, India have established a settled line-up in T20Is. Young talents are excelling, while senior players are embracing greater responsibility. The template set by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid prior to the T20 World Cup triumph has been maintained, with a few lovely updates. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have stood out as openers, showcasing fearless cricket at the top of the order. They have been brilliantly backed by captain Suryakumar and coach Gautam Gambhir. Tilak Varma has also cemented his place in the XI with consistent performances. Barring the established trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Kuldeep Yadav, questions arise about whether there is room for other star players to return without disrupting the current balance of the T20I side. Leading up to the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Rahul Dravid-led management reintroduced Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. While the trio delivered strong performances, their return impacted team continuity and limited opportunities for emerging players. Can Gautam Gambhir resist the temptation to reintegrate superstars? What will happen when Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant become available for T20Is? Will they be considered, and how will their inclusion affect the current dynamics? In the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast, we also delve into the build-up to the Champions Trophy, as India and England prepare for a three-match ODI series starting on 6 February. Tune in! In this episode of the show, we review England's big win against the Black Caps at Hagley Oval, plus discuss some squad/injury news in the Border-Gavaskar series. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is almost here! Aren't you excited? India have been sensational in their last two tours of Australia. However, with a team in transition that has a few injury and availability concerns, it seems that India are on the back foot early in the series. India will not have captain Rohit Sharma, who is on paternity leave, and star batter Shubman Gill, who fractured his thumb during training, for the Perth Test. Mohammed Shami's absence was already a big loss and India will not have two of their best batters, adding pressure on coach Gautam Gambhir, who is already under the pump. Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead India in Perth and the visitors will need to bring in their incredible fighting attitude to the fore. Can India stun Australia with a weakened side in Perth where the hosts are yet to lose? Who should replace Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the XI? Is there a place for young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in the XI? How good was head coach Gautam Gambhir in his first press meet as head coach? First things first, full marks for his punctuality. He sat down to address several questions with chairman of selection committee Ajit Agarkar before India departed for the tour of Sri Lanka. One of the most interesting things to emerge out of the press conference was the reasoning for India appointing Suryakumar Yadav ahead of Hardik Pandya as T20I captain. Was injury concerns the only reason why India decided to snub Hardik Pandya? Ajit Agarkar mentioned ‘feedback from the dressing room' as one of the main reasons behind India naming Surya as Rohit Sharma's successor. Are you convinced by these reasons? Also, Gautam Gambhir has backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Can the two seniors push it until 2027? Did Gambhir make a U-turn with this statement? And what to make of Shubman Gill's appointment as the vice captain in ODIs and T20Is. Does he deserve an automatic spot in the shortest format? Akshay Ramesh, Kingshuk Kusari and Alan Jose John discuss the much talked about press conference in the latest episode of the Sledging Room podcast. Tune In! Produced & Sound Mix by: Sachin Dwivedi
In this episode Cyrus Broacha breaks down the reasoning and history behind the controversial ‘Impact Player Rule' in the IPL. Why do stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Axar Patel object to it? And does the rule hamper or elevate the overall standard of the game? Tune in to find out. #CenturyOfCricket #CricketPodcast
Two games for this episode, featuring a Virat Kohli masterclass v Punjab Kings. The RCB batter was imperious as he blasted 92 runs at almost 2 a ball, a statement of intent by Virat Kohli before he heads to the World Cup with India. Punjab Kings have now been eliminated, and Dan Weston joins us to talk about their season and where it went wrong. Later in the show we talk CSK v Gujarat Titans. This was a huge game for CKS, but Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan both hit tons, putting their IPL play-off qualification at risk. Darshan Nalkande started playing cricket in his home town, Akola, at a young age. At 13, he was selected into Vidarbha Cricket Association's residential academy, Nagpur. To pursue his cricketing dream, he moved to Nagpur. Throughout his formative years, his parents backed his dream and today Darshan has ensured that his parents' hardships were not in vain. At 25, he is an integral part of the Vidarbha cricket team in all three forms of the game. Darshan was part of the Punjab Kings set-up for three years but did not get a game. In 2022, he moved to Gujarat Titans and made his IPL debut against his former side. His maiden IPL wicket - his Vidarbha teammate Jitesh Sharma. In IPL 2023 Qualifier 1, he got the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad but he had bowled a no-ball. How did a coach like Ashish Nehra help him move on from that mistake and focus on the game ahead? What has changed in the Gujarat Titans' camp under the captaincy of Shubman Gill? Darshan Nalkande reflects on his journey and the future on IPL Uwaach with The Hindu's sports journalist Amol Karhadkar… India are in an incredibly strong position against England at the end of the second day in Dharamshala. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both completed their centuries at the end of a wicketless morning session for England, and India continued to score at a fast rate throughout the day. They finished on 473-8, with a lead of 255 runs. Ben Stokes did manage to take a wicket with his first delivery bowled in almost a year, but the day belonged to India who will likely complete a 4-1 series win. Jon Norman brings you full highlights from another sensational day of test cricket - which was live and exclusive to talkSPORT 2. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

England, India, Australia and Pakistan feature on our last team preview episode for the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup. The 4 big boys of the tournament go into the World Cup with high expectations, but who do we predict could win the tournament. Australia have won more Cricket World Cups than anybody else, however their form has been patchy leading into this one. Do Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and the rest of the A-list players in the team have it in them to claim another trophy? Pakistan are the most volatile team in cricket. But Babar Azam and Rizwan provide steel with the bat. If Shaheen Afridi plays well they could be a real challenger. England won the 2019 Cricket World Cup, and Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Joe Root and the gang will be hoping they can go back to back. Is this possible or do we predict an early exit? And finally, India, go into their home tournament as favourites. Will the pressure of this tag be too much for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah. OR will they rise to the occasion?
