In this episode of the show, Binksy, Raj, Baldy and Stu discuss an eventful couple of weeks, which have seen RCB win their way to the IPL final, England demolish Zimbabwe, Karun Nair strengthen his case for a Test recall, Shubman Gill named India Test captain and Copilot names its favourite podcast host. We start by talking about IPL 2025's most recent game, which saw the Mumbai Indians advance, ending Gujarat Titans' season in the process. Sai Sudharsan was brilliant once again, but ultimately it was another stunning delivery from Jasprit Bumrah that turned the match. We also discuss Royal Challengers Bengaluru's first appearance in a final since 2016, with Josh Hazlewood and Virat Kohli leading the way with ball and bat respectively. But will they face Mumbai or the Punjab Kings in the big dance? Next we head to England to discuss their recent victory against Zimbabwe. Was it the perfect way to start the summer? Is Shoaib Bashir the answer? Is there a way in for Jacob Bethell after Ollie Pope's huge hundred? And how many references can we make to songs by Sam Cook? India named their Test squad to face England, and it is filled with stars but has a very new era feel to it thanks to the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Karun Nair's made a strong case for inclusion against the Lions, Sai Sudharsan's New Zealand-based fan club is growing and Shubman Gill has been named captain. To round out the show, there's brief mention of the World Test Championship Final build up (full preview coming next week) and the Black Caps' coaching search, which looks set to be finalised very soon. He explains how Gill is a mix of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. It's not just a new era for India, but also for England. Harry Brook is the new men's white ball captain for a series of three ODIs and three T20s against West Indies. We ask whether Brook is the right choice to improve England's poor form in limited overs cricket, and whether this extra responsibility could affect his Test form. Plus: the team also reflect on Sikandar Raza's remarkable journey from playing for Zimbabwe in Nottingham on Saturday, to hitting the title winning runs in the Pakistan Super League in Lahore on Sunday.Photo: India's Shubman Gill celebrates after scoring a century during the third day of the first Test cricket match between India and Bangladesh at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 21, 2024. This is the Catchup on 3 Things by The Indian Express and I'm Flora Swain.Today is the 12th of May and here are the headlines.India's Air Defence Foils Pakistani Strikes Amid Operation SindoorIndia targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK, but the Pakistani military intervened, said Air Marshal A.K. Bharti. Speaking after a high-level security meet with PM Modi, he confirmed all Indian air bases and defence systems are fully operational. Indian air defences successfully intercepted enemy threats, including Chinese-origin PL-15 missiles, long-range rockets, and loitering munitions. He highlighted the professionalism of India's air defence crews in neutralising incoming threats. The briefing underscored India's preparedness for any escalation following its precision strikes under Operation Sindoor.Virat Kohli Retires from Test Cricket Ahead of England TourVirat Kohli announced his immediate retirement from Test cricket via Instagram on Monday, just before India's five-match England tour. His decision follows Rohit Sharma's recent Test exit. Kohli, widely considered one of India's greatest batters, scored 9,230 runs in 210 Test innings at an average of 46.85. He now ranks fourth among Indian Test run-scorers, behind Tendulkar, Dravid, and Gavaskar. Kohli's retirement marks the end of a golden era in Indian Test cricket and signals a generational shift in the team's leadership and batting core.India Reopens Airports After Ceasefire With PakistanIndia has lifted the temporary ban on civil flight operations at 32 airports in northern and western regions following a ceasefire understanding with Pakistan. The restrictions, imposed amid rising cross-border tensions and air strikes, were initially to last until May 15. Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) issued Friday were cancelled on Monday, and flight operations are expected to resume soon. The airports, many located near military bases or conflict zones, were closed to protect civilian traffic from potential threats as hostilities peaked last week.First Quiet Night in J&K Since Start of India-Pakistan StandoffThe Indian Army confirmed a peaceful night across Jammu and Kashmir and along the international border on Sunday, marking the first calm since the May 7 launch of Operation Sindoor. This pause in hostilities comes after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday. Although explosions were reported in Srinagar and Punjab-Rajasthan border areas shortly after the announcement, no further firing occurred overnight. The lull offers a temporary reprieve after days of artillery fire and cross-border shelling that intensified following the Pahalgam terror attack.US-China Strike Deal to Slash Tariffs and Pause Trade WarThe US and China have agreed to reduce reciprocal tariffs and pause their trade war for 90 days, according to Reuters. After Geneva talks, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said both countries aim to de-escalate tensions. China will fix tariffs on US goods at 10%, suspend 24% additional tariffs, and scrap 91% of other duties. Bessent noted the US wants greater Chinese market access. The move could ease pressure on global markets, which have been rattled by months of retaliatory measures between the world's two largest economies. That's all for today. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Jamie and Stu look back at week 6 of IPL 2025, which saw the top 7 sides break away, Vaibhav Suryavanshi score a 35-ball century, Mumbai demolish Rajasthan, KKR win a final-ball thriller, Punjab secure a crucial two points against LSG, England name their first Test squad of the summer, and plenty more! We start this week by talking about Sunday's double-header, which saw KKR seal a nervy 1-run victory against RR to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, and Punjab Kings take a big step towards the semi-finals with an impressive victory against LSG. We spend a long time discussing Vaibhav Suryavanshi's cover drive, as well as the skill and quality of Arshdeep Singh as the battle for the Top 4 heats up. From there, we move to Stu's claim that this tournament is tracking towards a Mumbai Indians v Gujarat Titans final. Ryan Rickelton joined Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the runs this week, while Trent Boult continues to take wickets alongside Jasprit Bumrah. For GT, it's the top 3 of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler who continue to shine alongside their balanced bowling attack led by Prasidh Krishna. We discuss how IPL form could lead to Test opportunities, and whether the upcoming match between these two sides could be a preview of the big dance. One side who haven't been flying high in 2025 is Sunrisers Hyderabad, and despite their tiniest of tiny chances of sneaking into the playoffs, we decide it is time to bite the bullet and discuss what went wrong this season. The short answer is everything, but without Baldy there to defend him somehow the conversation turns to whether Pat Cummins is a marquee player in T20 cricket and how SRH could look to improve their bowling attack in 2026. We round out the show by talking some Test cricket, thanks to England naming their first squad of the summer to take on Zimbabwe in a one-off fixture. The boys evaluate the squad, noting Ben Stokes on the comeback trail, an injury to Jordan Cox, a potential debut for Sam Cook, Shoaib Bashir's inclusion and what bearing any of it could have for an exciting summer to come. In this episode of the show, Raj, Baldy and Stu look back at week 5 of IPL 2025, which saw Mumbai and RCB make their moves, CSK start looking to next season and New Zealand Cricket invest in Major League Cricket in the USA. We start this week with a check in about RCB. It's been a strange season for them so far - less hyped than previous years, struggles at home, but with a lot of the players in key positions all delivering on what's required. We talk about Virat Kohli's quietly impressive stats, Josh Hazlewood doing the business, Tim David's finishing, Krunal Pandya's key moments and whether it's time to load up on RCB stock before it is too late. From there, we move to Mumbai's charge up the table thanks to Rohit Sharma's return to form, Suryakumar Yadav's consistency, a bag for Trent Boult and a bowling attack that looks so much more complete now that it features Jasprit Bumrah. Then it's time to bounce around a few different topics - from the top 6 teams putting a gap between them and the rest, to left-handed openers like Priyansh Arya and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the contrasting fortunes of teams like the Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. We round out the show with a discussion about New Zealand Cricket's investment in MLC in North America. Is international investment in franchise cricket a glimpse into the future of the game? How will it work in reality? Who could it benefit? Could we ever see something similar in the IPL? We'll be back in your feed again soon with more IPL coverage. Just a week ago, everyone had written off the Mumbai Indians. But with four straight wins and a squad clicking in perfect rhythm, they've roared back into the spotlight. The five-time champions aren't just winning—they're dominating, playing with the swagger and confidence of a team that knows exactly how to conquer titles. In contrast, Rishabh Pant - acquired for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore to lead Lucknow Super Giants - has looked a shadow of his once-destructive self. After nine matches this season, he has mustered just 106 runs, with 63 of those coming in a single knock against CSK. Pant has always thrived when brimming with confidence, but at LSG, he seems jaded and weighed down by expectations. His strike rate of 96.36 is alarmingly low for someone of his caliber. Part of the issue could be his constant shuffle in the batting order, never quite settling into one role. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have retained their spots in the Grade A+ bracket of the BCCI central contracts despite stepping away from T20Is. We break down how the BCCI arrived at that decision. In the latest episode of the Sledging Room podcast, Saurabh Kumar, Kingshuk Kusari, and Alan Jose John dissect the central contracts, Pant's struggles, and Mumbai Indians' roaring comeback in IPL 2025.
